  • In one of my favorite conversations I've ever had with someone on this channel, I had the absolute pleasure of sitting down with Adam De Micco of Lorna Shore. The honesty and transparency he brought to this interview is rarely seen from people in the music industry, and he is a super genuine and awesome human being. We got to talk about a wide range of things relating to the band including their upcoming EP, recently finding a new vocalist after their last was removed from the band, his background with music and creativity, and he even shared his own personal experiences and struggles for everyone to hear.

@@TankTheTech big thanks for this and of course your reaction to To the Hellfire, really cool interview between to honest to god musiclovers, i'm gonna see them in my hometown on the 23rd of September, and i sure hope to be able to thanks the guys in person for their music, i'm a huge fan of great music and been listening to it for more than 40 years, can't make any myself, but i know what hits and what not, you know the feeling, when you love music and something hits it does, and you cannot explain why, it just does, the song has been on repeat here from the moment i discovered it, it's totally brilliant in every single department :) cheers :) !!

I grew up with Death Metal of the nineties ... Deicide, Morbid Angel, Napalm Death and so on. If I had been able to hear the music of today then I would not have believed that it was man-made. This precision and the pressure that today's Death Metal or Deathcore bands can produce is unbelievable. What will that sound like in twenty years?

Hearing him starting out at 18 and not growing up with music is really inspiring. I’m 24 and started 6 months ago. I hope to be able to compose and play as emotive solos like Adam does.

I had no intention of watching this entire thing, but here i am almost to the end of the video. I guess I shouldn't be surprised with how great and genuine your reactions videos are, but I'm impressed with how this video turned out. For me, this is exactly what an interview should be: Not a list of questions asked while moving along the surface of topics, but rather, a conversation between two people that gives us a window to view what makes someone tick. I came because I wanted to hear him talk about the new vocalist... but nearly an hour later I find myself enjoying his insight and and identifying a lot on how he sees things. I love how open and honest he is about things and I have a lot of respect for how he doesn't shy away from acknowledging how real of threat depression can be. He's mindful of it and doesn't sugar coat it. I handle the topic of depression and mental illness in general the same way and while it can make some others uncomfortable, for me it's a way to feel like I have some control and can still take some ownership of how I manage it and still function the best I can. And i want to say thank you for not trying to direct him away from that conversation. And you did a great job of balancing the conversation between you and him. This is fantastic and I honestly think you might be on to something here with how you do this interview. Genuine and insightful, just like your reactions videos. Excellent work as always.

If this guy is not the coolest dude on the planet, I don't know who is. I was on IG recently, and Adam was doing a live stream, going to bat for Austin, where another band had to borrow Austin's drum kit for a set, then after the set didn't help pack it up. Apparently whoever this was, decided just to go out and drink in the parking lot and left Austin to clean up after them. Adam read them (didn't mention names) the riot act and tore into them like a true leader and friend does. Adam definitely is the leader of this band and certainly no one you want to play with. Oh by the way, he is a wicked wizard playing the guitar with some of the most breathtaking solos I've ever heard. Dude needs to be known to the world.

Adam deserves so much praise. He's a master at his craft. The solo at the end of king ov deception and to the hellfire still blows my mind. The breakdowns...just insane. Lorna Shore is a bona-fide super group IMO. Hope Adam is in better spirits. Lorna Shore got me through some rough times and for that I am grateful 🙏. Love the interview Tank!

Man! Crazy how far deathcore has come. I used to hate deathcore and when Lorna Shore first came out I wasn't a fan one bit. But now I can't have enough of it, I just love how the sound has changed over the years. Lorna Shore, Slaughter to Prevail, and Shadow of Intent are phenomenal.

You know, coming from a background of retail, what the world considered “essential” during the pandemic, I honestly couldn’t have dealt with the BS of the world and the job without the “non-essential” musicians and artists. So thank you for bringing me up in my dark times and I never doubted Lorna’s ability to adapt and produce music at the level they did when they released their ep with Ramos. Also, thank you Tank, love your videos both reactions and interviews! Keep all the good work coming guys!

I've been listening to Lorna Shore for about a year now. I saw them live when they opened for Mastadon and Gojira on the Mega Monsters Tour last month, got a tshirt, listen to them often, and played them for my 13 year old metalhead-in-training daughter. My favorite thing is to sit down with a glass of wine, put my feet up, settle my headphones, and tap on my Lorna Shore playlist to just listen. If you see this, Tank, please tell Adam the next time you talk to him that I focus on his music and appreciate his artistry and his band's efforts and creativity. ❤🤘

Amazing interview! It's so good to see that they might be absolute musical geniuses, they are all still such down to earth humble guys. Also i agree with what Adam said, it's so sad that the people on the instrumentals don't get credited as much as vocalists. In fact, i believe Adam De Micco could very well be on an Eddie Van Halen level of musical genius, he writes solos and riffs that make songs. And he doesn't just write one iconic riff and that's it, he is a never ending story, he does it on every single song. When i first heard To The Hellfire i was blown away by that opening riff throughout the whole song, and that solo is one of the best i've ever heard. Yeah we can talk about that last breakdown on To The Hellfire, but i think the main characteristic of the song is actually the main riff, so massive. I mean "Van Halen - Ain't talking about love" level of riff when i talk about this.

i listen death metal and other classic extreme forms of metal like black, doom, thrash, heavy....for my whole life, since i was little kid, im 35 now. i was also in death metal and goregrind bands some 15+ years ago. and only recently i got into this modern subgenre deathcore. i was there at the birth of the genre and we "elitist death metal young ones" thought it was an weak emo version of death metal. now, as mature person i can say this song that lorna shore did, into the hellfire, is probably one of the best metal songs i've heard in years and years. i can hear a lot of black metal, death metal and even grindcore at moments. and i listen all kinds of great metal today, from classics like burzum, morbid angel, napalm death, candlemass and sodom, to lorna shore and similar great bands.
Tank, thank you for an amazing interview, and Adam thank you for amazing music.

Really great interview Tank! Lorna Shore doesn't necessarily hit my genre wheelhouse, but that doesn't mean i don't have an interest in the people. The human connection is there in all forms and types of music. Hate hearing the crap that musicians have to put up with from some "fans". It's one thing to have an opinion, but to just crap on someone, I've just never understood those people. They aren't music fans to me, just the worst kind of troll. A lot of important shares and I agree with you that it is important to hear from someone that has been through what Adam has and to hear his perspective. We can all learn from that level of honesty.

@@Joose My original take was, that I recognized and appreciated the musicianship of the band members. But I didn't sit down and really listen to every part of the music. I kind of wrote it off as a bit too heavy for my taste. And now I am willing and eager to really sit down and thoroughly listen to the music and form a real opinion. The outcome might be the same and it is still not my cup of tea, or I will grow to really like it, but it will be an informed decision. Does that answer your question?🙂

This is so correct when it comes to vocalists overshadowing everything. Several examples (like suicide silence) where people say they should quit without. This is so disrespectful regarding the instrumentalists who are partly even longer in the band and have a mich bigger influence on the music itself.

This entire conversation was just mind blowing, I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed an interview as much as I enjoyed this one. I’ve been playing drums for pretty much all my life (22) and throughout this whole pandemic I lost all creativity and progress in my craft so I was just about ready to quit and sell everything but I’m glad I never did cause now I’ve never played more in my life. Absolutely fantastic interview man! Well done.

    Great interview, Tank and Adam!
Tank: it's really nice to see how you being just chill and interested gets people to have such great conversations with you.
And to Adam: Not that you care to be seen as 'cool', but being open and honest about stuff like this makes a person *pretty* cool in my book. I might have to join Jeroen here in the comments with saying that even though I don't listen to music like LS on a daily basis, I'm keen to check out the EP when it drops, and might even get tickets for a show in the Netherlands. Gonna start with opening spotify now and listening to older stuff :)

Your talent for songwriting is what keeps me coming back to your music - regardless who sings on the songs. This was a really good interview. Quite frankly his openness and honesty about everything and eagerness to talk was one of the main factors that made this interview stand out. I hope he knows what he does inspires others to keep going as well. So his work does mean a lot to people so not only will he have a lasting history of work but that work leaves impacts on others and to not give up and to strive for more. Hands down one of the best interviews I’ve seen in awhile. @@TankTheTech any time! I think the part in the interview where you guys discussed what it was like during the shutdown is where it struck home for me because I was in the industry with you guys and went through exactly what you guys did. I had to change my career and I didn’t know what to do and it was a shock to the system and I felt stranded. It was a really rough time. My best friend is finally getting back to his stage manager job and he took it hard as well. I think listing our industry as non essential was a big mistake. What we do provides a or of mental Heath and physical health for people and taking that away was not the right move imo.

Hearing you both talk about how you listen to music with no other distraction made me remember: I loved Immortal with my whole heart and was very concerned with how the band was going to sound with a new vocalist. I got my two metalhead friends together on a Discord call, we spent like 3 hours chatting, listening to some other music, watching videos etc until I finally felt ready. I shit you not, our first listen of Hellfire was the only 5 minutes that night we all understood to shut the hell up, sit completely still and be immersed. It felt amazing. Definitely get what you both are saying.
Regarding the mix of Hellfire as well as comparisons to CJ.. well I love the new song, my only notes were how vastly different this feels from even songs like Death Portrait and This Is Hell. Kinda like you said, Hellfire has a more dynamic mix and the vocals fluctuate in volume just like every other instrument. The mixing on the Immortal album was perfect to me, because of how melodic it was, the symphonic parts basically above everything bar vocals. This new song is like you said, darker, grittier and heavier both in composition and mix. As much as there is that "we are back" factor, to me at least it for sure feels like a new chapter, and I presume that the EP I will enjoy just as much as Immortal, but in a completely different ways.
Stay legends, all of you (Tank and other members of Lorna included ofc)
