We love the new RAV4 - he is the Star in our Showroom! The new rear review mirror is absolutly awesome. Thank you for your Presentation!
Excellent review. I’ve been searching UA-cam for an in-depth review and this is streets ahead of all the other offerings. Thank-you Autogefuhl.
In North America, only the AWD version of the Hybrid will be available. The Hybrid utilizes an eCVT transmission, which is VERY different than what a CVT is. Mainly, it’s incredibly simple and reliable. Also, the batteries are under the rear seat, not under the floor.
Irradiate the kids?
Amazing on how many people don't realize this about most hybrids..... even a few reviewers.
Best review of the Rav4 Hybrid I've come across. Great info and interesting insights that other reviews haven't picked up on. Great stuff 👍
Thank's fore that tip, it was a very nice an sober overview !
Beautiful review. Extremely detailed. Very informative. Well done!!
thanks, please recommend!
Best reviews on UA-cam 👍
I really like the ruler part personally
Big thanks for the nice and detailed review!
As usual a excellent review. Thanks for the info
Thank you Brian as usual good review always.
i like the way u go into the nitty gritty details of everything !!! pls continue doing so !
Great review Brian, i'm sure you love the brand !
For Europe we will get the spare wheel depending on the options. So the batteries do Not interrupt the spare wheel /a big mistake there/. Also it will fit a full size spare. If the car gets a panoramic roof it will probbably not get a spare because of the added weight of the roof, but that does not mean you can not retrofit it as an option/or a spare part, depending on the market/. And the boot has double height, but you can not fit the the privacy cover in the lower height level. And another one - you can flip the boot floor cover /the one you've opened to get to the spare tyre or tyre repair kit/. On the other side it has some kind of plastic that can be cleaned and you can use it when you have to transport dirty items /this one you do have in your vehicle as I saw it/.
Now on the rearview mirror camera. Probably one of the best solution on the market right now. If you notice there are 3 buttons on the left of the rearview switch. With them you enter a menu and you can move the camera left/right/up or down, zoom, set the brightness and contrast. And is a very good option to have if you really fill up the boot to the top or be very handy to check that trailer.
All those options and more are market dependable and must be checked carefully.
One of the best reviews. Delivered in fact with great humour. The English is perfect. Accent is perfect. 5 stars. I’m buying one (7 month wait in Australia)so really helped me choose.
👌🙏
Congrats..... I'm also buying one, the XSE and luckily I only have to wait one month as they are assembled in my home province of Ontario. I'm sure your 7 month wait will be well worth it in the end mate.
That was a very interesting and well presented car review. Keep up your good work!
thanks! feel free to recommend :)
Well made video, nice!
Best review of all the Ravs, well done. I've just ordered one.
Thom Pearson Pearson
I have the XSE model. You will love any model you choose!!
When I was growing up in the 90s, I remember seeing the RAV4 with its spare wheel on the back and saying to my parents that we should get one because it’s so cool looking.
It’s a very different car now. Still quite distinct but not anywhere near as much as before when SUVs weren’t a big thing at all. They were cool and different to me.
Hello from Canada, thank you for the video. I appreciate the depth that you went into and honesty that you provided.
Thanks feel free to recommend!
I'm in Ontario. I just made a deal for a XSE blizzard pearl w/black roof. It's going to be assembled in Woodstock in about a month..... can't wait!!!
Long time subscriber and i have to say... This guy is great!
the best reviewer here. hands down.
Good reviews, in detailed. Thank you
Great in depth review Brian
Good review! That privacy cover... I believe it also serves a safety purpose in limiting the amount of flying objects in the case of an accident. I always use mine whenever I have something in the rear compartment.
This is the second review I have watched ( vw passat ) with yourself and in my opinion very thoughtful and sensible as to what potential owners require and expect in new cars.
This new Toyota looks sharp.
thanks, please share!
Awesome editing skills bro. The car is pretty sweet too!
I give a thumbs up in the middle of this review. I have seen tens of Toyota RAV4 Hybrid reviews. By far this is the best!
Motivates us to go further!
Brian is a TOP reviewer on UA-cam. He does a splendid job.
highly appreciated! Please recommend our channel =)
Just after buying a 2020 version thanks for the review which I found useful for my research.
Great review Brian.
I’m starting to like the design, specially in black. Also, excellent review. Congrats!
The usual Autogefuhl review. Excellent!
👌😎
Good review
Another brilliant review. Brian, you should make more videos!
thanks, feel free to share :)
Agreed.
Nicely presented,thks.
very very nice video, thanks
When I saw ruler in your hand I immediately give "I like" :)
welcome =)
this is one thing what i like about the autogefuhl reviews.
But in this video you forgot to measure the boot space with the seats up.
I watched more than 10 rav4 reviews, but this is obviously the best!
Thanks for the info
Thx pls recommend 😊
Another great review by Brian. A bit more emphasis on consumption would be reasonable, its a hybrid and many of us are looking at hybrids these days. But anyways, still very informative. I'd say "it's Brian, I won't promise you an exciting car review, but I can guarantee an honest and detailed one". Keep up mate, well done!
🙏🙏
Excellent review. Much appreciated.
Thanks, feel free to recommend our channel!
The rear view mirror camera is great! Amazing if you constantly have a load in the beck of the car, 3 bikes on the tow hitch, or a trailer.
Great reviev Brian!
👌
Good review!
Test drove the Adventure model this week. Very pleasing to the eyes, but absolutely murder on the ears! UNBELIEVABLY LOUD!
The gas model engine is very noisy.... love the looks of the Adventure (Trail in Canada) also. The hybrid trims are much quieter & smoother to drive.
Brought my 2001 Rav4 new and many times I would have been glad to have the rear camera.
I wish all the outside mirror were heated like mine has.
Nice video Sir thanks
Brilliant video. You aren’t being picky at all. Best wishes 🇮🇳
Another exceptional video from Brian. I like styling of the new RAV4 and the effort Toyota has made to make it stand out more from the crowd. The last generation was a little bland especially around the tailgate. GT86, Supra and now RAV4, have me interested in the brand again.
I was never really interested in the Rav4. But with this new generation Rav4 I not only like it...... I'm buying one!!!
Excelent video !!!!! this 40 mins passed smothly !! Congrats ! last week RAV 4 was presented in México. For hybrid only full equiped version, it is great !!! I have aPrius 2017, certanly I''l will change it for a RAV4 Hybrid Best wishes from Mexico.
great u joined us!
Yet another informative and engaging review from Brian (or Bryan?). As always, your communication is clear and you present with almost no bias, which is refreshing compared to the patronising tone I've viewed from many others.
The Rav4 wasn't a top choice of mine when considering which new vehicle to get. Its infotainment looked to be the biggest letdown with relatively low quality graphics and slow processing that'd become more frustrating as the vehicle ages.
However, you emphasised the fundamental traits that I, like many other car buyers, prioritise. E.g. the ergonomics, spaciousness and user-friendliness, especially with the vehicle being easy to maintain. Overall, the Rav4 looks promising as another example of Toyota's reliability. I'm now seriously considering this as my next purchase.
Thank you again Brian (or was it Bryan?). I look forward to another great review from yourself!
Brian it is. Thank u very much!
I agree with you that the infotainment is its weak point...... but everything else is pretty much top class. I'm buying one.... will be arriving in about a month and I can't wait.
How is the visibility?
Excellent
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank you for review of new Rav4. It would be really helpful for my english listening skill and information of new car.I should get it if this model release in Korea haha👌👌
thx so much =) feel free to recommend!
Your english isn't so bad either.
Just found this review just Subscribed just put a deposit down on the Excel . Brilliant review , the car iam getting has a spare wheel . Keep up the good work
Welcome!!
The top rear camera is actually a very practical safety feature. If you load the cargo area and obstruct regular rear visibility, the camera will provide the view perfectly. You should have figured that out.
He mentioned that. You should have paid attention.
I test drove one a few days ago and i was very impressed with the comfort, feel and the economy. The car had a premium feel to the drive but the infotainment system is stuck in the dark ages. Overall the car was very impressive and returned 55 mpg with a mix of town and motorway driving (uk Gallon). i would recommend going for the excel trim or above as the design trim lacks in comfort.
I would love Toyota to sort out there infotainment system, as they are really behind the competition in that area.
thanks for the feedback!
Best SUV DESIGN!!! I love it! I will bay it!
A great car, really well reviewed.
Thanks for tuning in!
Great review again. My next door neighbour has a Camry hybrid and under that foam @ 22:54 there is a narrow 80km/h max. wheel with tyre
The size of the displayed navigation map in relation to the overall size of the screen is simply hilarious :D
Oj Łukasz, można wyświetlać mapę na CAŁYM ekranie
And why is that side mirror placed so much out from the car, it looks like god damn satellite
I agree, it is a terrible waste of money for this option. I can see more on my high res smartphone with a decent phone place holder. Than I only will use it too when absolutely necessary, the fixed screen of the infotainment system is upsetting the whole interior.
Well, I have ordered the pearl white Dynamic (UK) having had the CH-R Dynamic for a couple of years. The design language from the CH-R has definitely been carried forward into the new RAV4 and I really like that.
Good review...
Thanks 🙏
you're a very good host, I much enjoyed watching your review
👌
Nice review, thanks. Is this the 4x2 or the 4x4 model?
It was a top of the line Limited and they come in 4x4 where I am..... lower trims you can get the 4x2 in some countries.
We have just bought a 2020 Rav4, and there's only the two of us. You don't need to have the analogue speedo display.
Ours has a spare wheel, I believe they all do now. The Rav4 is going to be far more reliable than any German car.
Make sure the Cam Bus security plate is fitted behind the headlight. As in the US, all Rav4's now come with AWD.
The car will usually only stay in pure electric mode, up to about 15mph if it's the same as the Yaris.
Very good review thinking about getting this but I also have been looking at reviews of the new subaru forester and it looks very good think is coming to Europe in a few months so I might wait for that and it's a hybrid e boxer was launched a few weeks ago in Asia
thanks keep tuning in!
thanks for the review, I wished you talked about the the visibility when driving. it's a major criteria to be considered when buying a any vehicle
I test drove one today and it’s really good. You can see the very front of your bonnet so know exactly where you are on the road. Big side mirrors so visibility behind is excellent. Internal mirror is slightly smaller but does the job I really like it and thinking I might order one on payday
I test drove one about a month ago. Overall, visibility is very good compared to all other competitors. Toyota made a very smart choice to place the mirrors on the body and create that little window beneath the A pillar as it actually does noticeably improve visibility. Similarly, the rear window cut out is appreciated. I wasn't a fan of the hood though. It's quite wide (some competitors are more curved) and I had difficulty determining where the edges of the car was when parking, though I do think it's something that gets better once you drive it more.
Excellent review and vehicle.
For me you are not being picky about the wheel arches Brian. Noticing the drawback of gap in the plastic arches shows the quality of Brian. It causes problems when you drive on mud road on rainy day. Excellent review by the way.
Indeed, its not being picky at all. Car is supposed to last for many years. Things like that can cause early corrosion, especially when living in places with lots of water, dirt and snow. I've ruined my first car by ignoring water in similar place (it was badly placed rubber below doors that gathered dirt and water in Zafira B, fixed in later models), which led to rust. Toyota designers should know better than make such silly mistakes.
Agreed this attention to detail is why I watch this channel.
@@slava_trushkin Yes. When it comes to attention to detail, Germans win hands down, Passat and Tiguan are masterpiece when it comes to that. Toyota's reputation is reliability, they should not do these kind of mistakes.
Funny thing is, mudflaps that cover up that gap along the rear side of the wheel arches appear to be standard equipment on the 2019 RAV4s sold (and made) in Canada.
@@JustChinook you stole the words right of my mouth..... standard on ALL models of the Rav4 sold in Canada. And it does cover up that little gap very nicely..... I guess they're too cheap in other countries to make mud flaps standard equipment.
I personally, eagerly wait offroad tests from future owners. Yes... hybrid.. offroad
Awesome review. Keep up the great work. I do a agree that plastic should have been all the way down. It doesn't make sense.
Maybe financial sense to the manufacturers perhaps?
A nice video, but you forgot Toyota's #1 selling point...reliability.
i really doubt if reliability is so varying these days among different brands.
Let's face it: you get 3 years warranty on this. On an Skoda I get 2 years but I can buy with reasonable cost a 5 year warranty which is just not possible with Toyota.
@@hrh2092 "reliability is so varying these days" not its not, toyota is always at the top in reliability charts, that is just a fact, well to be honest they only loose to one brand... that is lexus..., guess who owns that. Expect all modern cars to last 5 years, that is fine, a well cared toyota should last you for 20.
@@hrh2092 Toyota Australia has a 5 year unlimited km warranty and if you service on time they extend it for another two years for engine and drivetrain components. That screams reliability
@@61FinestGaming In germany toyota give just 3 years. I am not going to go with it when I have choices like Kia or Hyundai giving me 5 and 7 years.
Countered by it's #1 turn-off....boredom.
I really really want this car.
yes , Toyota is one of the most reliable and sturdy vehicle in the world and you will find Toyotas on every continent and in every environmental area you can think of
Sat in one the other day. Perfect seat height and entry/exit is very appealing. Toyota really offers quite a bit with the XSE Hybrid in terms of options etc.... they really hit the nail on the head with everything except maybe in the style department
Epic thumbs down for Toyota..... no pano moon-roof for Canada..... only in the US. Dumb move Toyota..... I'll be holding onto my pennies for another year in hopes you pull your heads out of your asses.
@@beri232 it's not available in Canada because the Woodstock plant isn't equipped yet to install the pano roof. I would imagine they will equipped to do it in a year or two. I'm happy with just a sun roof.....the pano roof only opens part way.... that would irritate the hell out of me. I'm getting my new XSE in a month & I'll be happy with just a sun roof. The CR-V has a pano roof but it's only on the Black Edition which is made in the USA as the Honda Alliston plant also aren't equipped to install the pano roof.
Do you find the seats to be quite shallow under your legs? I'm 6foot3 and find a lot of cars have too shallow seats and not much thigh support. I've been looking hard for a deep seat but generally it's the likes of Mercedes and audi have the extendable thigh support (don't like either brand). Thanks
@@MIA-ow2js for price point and size… I think it’s great! I’m 6’1”. If you’re open to North American…. sit in the GM Blazer. By far one of the most comfortable vehicles I’ve ever sat in. No word of a lie! Personally, I hate North American brands and would never own another one but that is a very comfy vehicle for taller folks!
@@beri232 hey thanks. I'm from Ireland so we don't really get those big machines that you get in the US. Definitely jealous about that one 😁
I have arranged to meet my local car dealer. Will have to take a good look into this new hybrid thing. I miss my Toyota feel. It's always reliable and practical. Maybe it's time to change back to a Toyota. Thanks for the review.
Kaizen !!
The plastic wheel well thing doesn't bother me at all. I'm very impressed with Toyota's recent designs. The Prius Prime is just awesome and the new 2019 Rav4 is a knock out! It's great to see when auto makers finally take some risks and get stylish, especially with lower priced vehicles. I lived through the rounded boring edges of the '90's so I'm very happy to see Toyota creating such great designs!
I like Brian's laid-back personality and the amount of information that he packs into the review. Lovely SUV. Oh no! No spare! And on something that may go into the backwoods! I suppose that it has ridiculously expensive run flat tires. I guess Toyota's brilliant engineers had to make compromises to fit the electric motor in the rear, but that may kill the deal for me.
thanks!!
In North America ALL Rav4 hybrids have a temporary spare tire (you can even fit a full size tire in that space). The CR-V in North America doesn't have a spare which was a deal breaker for me. Hello Toyota!!!
Having driven one all over the country for 50,000 miles, typically with fuel consumption of 55mpg to 65mpg all day long, comfortably, reliably, so much so, I am going to break my usual rule and order another one the same!
What about the six great safety features? You mentioned some. To me, they and the hybrid are the key buying features.
Brian, what manufacturers have the best seats in your opinion? I guess premium brands all have excellent seat, but within generalist manufacturers, which ones you like the most?
Depends on height I guess. We found that for tall people, the VW vehicles suit very well e.g.
From the countless videos I've watched it seams that Honda gets the better mark for great comfortable seats. But will always be up for debate. lol
Here's cool tip which I think it would be interesting to check in the car. it works in a new Corolla wagon so it should be working in RAV4 as well- the floor cover in a trunk can be removed and flipped over so now you can have durable surface where you can put dirty stuff on.
Nice review by the way.
They do have this feature
Or you could buy the Cargo Liner option/accessory which is much better than the flipped over cover.
Really appreciate that you drew attention to your short legs and long torso. I likewise have a 29" inseam and a long back. I have asked Thomas to include the length of his inseam, so others such as us can calculate what our head room would be.
I'm 6-1 with a 30" inseam... probably because of my long neck lol
3:30 Could’t agree more with you on the plastic sorroundings of the wheel arches.... what were they thinking ?? Leaving out the most volatile part seems anti-Toyota !!
As always great review! Keep up the good work
👌
Autogefühl 😊
@@allan.n.7227 Don't be so cheap and buy mud guards and that will cover that open spot..... sheesh
Hi Brian, nice review as usual. Detailed design review is brilliant, impressive attention to details. Like and subscribe. :-)As for the car, well, to me Korean Ssang Yong has distinctive look, each Chinese SUV has distinctive look, this Toyota is also, well, distinctive, if not to say ugly. Interior is a bit better, a bit...
Thanks and welcome!!
You really should get the version with electric seats. They have more motion and adjustments for the seat and adjustable lumbar support. I changed my 2016 for a 2019 model that included electric seats, 100% worth it.
Given the price point I’d say it’s a well fitted all round sort of car. If you’re are looking sporty, go a turbo, off road something like a traditional 4wd, cruising/comfort and economical, the rav.
I need that rear view camera so when someone's sitting in the back, I don't get to deal with awkward eye contact.
Exactly, particularly when he doesn't get it
Any issues with filling up gas tank
Now it looks like as matured vehicle, not just as for ladies only.
Thinking of swapping family's CHR to this one.
Why won't the windshield defogger button come on my 2020 rave4 LE after its set to come on when I start the engine to warm up and melt snow of the windshield the next day by using my remote key fob but it defaults to a slower fan speed instead of the full on defogger fan speed to melt ice an snow? All 2020 rav4s do this. Thanks. I'd very much appreciate your help. ✌
Surely that’s a question you should be directing to Toyota, not him?
In the U.S., the hybrid and normal versions come with a spare tire. In fact, you can fit a standard size tire in the spare tire compartment.....
Ni-mh batteries also have a longer lifespan and can recharge/discharge more than lithium batteries
"What do you think guys? It's eight inches, does the job". 😂🤣😉
Great review! I bought the 2020 hybrid in the USA and there is a spare tire in the trunk “boot”. The reason I was told that Toyota uses nickel batteries is because the lithium batteries do not perform as well in very cold temperatures.
Thanks and enjoy :)
I'm in cold Canada so I'm very happy they have nickel batteries in the Rav4
just watched this video, covered things very well. not sure if you have more to say today on the differences in trim levels... I am considering the hybrid XSE... do you know how that compares to vehicle you reviewed? Also, with options I believe that will push the price to over $35,000... what are your thoughts on that? I believe what you said/reviewed was around $25,000 starting. Thank you for your input!
Thanks! Highest spec usually not worth it. Mid spec is usually good. Try to avoid animal skin seats!
I believe he was driving a Limited.... it's most likely called something else in Germany. I just purchased a new XSE with the Technology Package which will be assembled at the Woodstock Toyota plant next month. I'm in Canada but if your in the USA the trims are fairly similar. I believe there are more different packages for the XSE in the US. Just go into the Toyota USA website (I've been in there several times myself checking out the differences) I've been on those websites so many times, watching every UA-cam ever made on the Rav4 hybrid and checking out the Toyota dealer lot every week for the last 2 years..... this is how I boiled it down to the XSE with Technology & I really like the Blizzard Pearl with Black Roof.
Interesting thing car styling. At the start of the review I really didn't like the look of that car, and I've seen one in the metal; by the end I was thinking, "Yeah, that looks really good."
I sat in one at a local showroom and I have to say the quality of the thing was pretty good, nice and solid. Soft feel materials where they should be and the 'cheap' hard plastics also where they should be; some thought has obviously gone into this, whilst allowing for the inevitable build cost constraints.
By all accounts a comfy ride too. I was pleasently surprised.
The new RAV4 comes STANDARD with outstanding safety features. You barely mentioned theMPG, if at all. 39 MPG (USA) combined!!! There are much more interesting color combinations available, both inside and out. Legendary Toyota reliability. For me the design is a huge leap forward too, but that's subjective of course. No one is cross-shopping this with a Porsche Macan. It's a fantastic affordable family car and with the new hybrid's MPG, I think it's an excellent choice for many families. I'm considering one myself. I have a Lexus ES300h that has been an amazing car to daily drive.
Stay with Lexus or you won't like the drop in quality
@@eazizisaid You're probably right. I'm hoping maybe the new NX hybrid will be a nice redesign, especially with higher mpg.
Real world MPG will be more like 32-33mpg if you stay away from the highways. 24-26 mpg at 130-140kph is more likely. Europeans drive faster and accelerate harder.
Toyota's reliability is mostly a legend, it dropped significantly in recent years and Toyota dealerships do everything to hide it (if they need to tow one they put a cover on it so people won't see the brand). They rust quickly, brakes wear out quickly, everything behind the panels is cheap and hollow (multiple electronic glitches, freezing reflectors, steaming up safety system sensors/cameras, unreliable satnavs, basic 1.4 and 1.6 gasoline engines don't last long, multiple recalls and much more), they don't even paint the body panels in places you can't see from the outside. What you didn't mention is that Toyotas are very expensive to maintain in Europe, spare parts and all the checkups cost a lot of money. Car itself isn't all that affordable, new RAV4 comes in high trims only and it's one of the most expensive crossovers in its segment (with niether Android Auto or Apple CarPlay!). And it's just butt ugly from the outside.
@@sic22l There is independent statistic about reliability which says absolutely opposite things what you are saying here. Maybe it is a reason why taxis in Germany prefer to change Mercedes cars to Toyota Prius with Hybrid system!
@Andrey
There are still plenty of Mercs as taxis, Prius is a plastic wheelbarrow for low cost transportation thanks to its low fuel consuption (and city centre allowances, tax rebates). It's not a real competition because it's a completely different, much less comfortable car.
Toyota speds quite a lot of money to look good in those statistics for example they secretly do some repairs during scheduled maintenance, they have good assistance service which is ordered to cover the vehicle if it has to be towed because they don't want anyone to see Toyota being towed.
Well Brian about that aux cover, you can always rip it out if it gets in your way, like I did.
😎
Please help me: what is a better buy? I have to choose between this car (the hybrid Bi-tone version) or a DS7 (130 HP Diesel Be chic version). I like the looks of the DS7 but I think the Rav4 is more practicle and has standard automatic gearbox which the DS7 hasn't. What are your opinions.
Yeah I agree, better go for the RAV4. Or check some other competitors we have reviews of, like:
ua-cam.com/video/J47KIdBQGVs/v-deo.html
ua-cam.com/video/aQN7d_-bFIA/v-deo.html
ua-cam.com/video/kp2zo-ehXcU/v-deo.html
If you drive in the city for most of the time - get the RAV4. DS7 will be much better highway cruiser (quieter, lower fuel consumption).
@@sic22l for some reason the Camry hybrid gets incredible highway gas mileage..... if you want incredible city mpg get a Prius or Insight. btw I'm buying a new Rav4 hybrid XSE trim..... I'm trading my Insight for it.
I think it's been quite a long time since we have had a McLaren review. 720s anytime soon ?
How was the noise on higher speeds (100km/h +)?
I agree with the plastic wheel covers not meeting around the corners - strange design decision and will keep the rain. I do like plastic bodywork covers and I could have a personalised trim with more plastic as I use the car in nature :)
You are fine with the plastic inside that is easy to clean. I have a dog and do mostly road trips to the mountains and I clean all the mud, coffee and bits of food from over the place. I care comfort, not leather or hard plastics. I have been in all leather interiors that were just uncomfortable and in base Kia Ceed that was amazing on the 6h drive.
I have seen a spare wheel in RAV4 hybrid on YT. I think it might depend on the eAWD. I might write nonsense as well. On was just below the main cover and the other under the battery - sort of.
If anyone from T. reads it - good job. Please give me an option with ventilated seats but no leather as it is hot where I live but I do not care about leather. The car looks utilitarian and is usable and I hope the price point in Japan will be good.
Rav 4 ❤️😍❤️😍❤️😍
Good video 👌🏼
Im interested:
1) what is the real mpg of the car( hybrid version) in the city and highway?
2) what is the difference of mpg between AWD and 2WD?
3) Is there a difference of mpg between 19-inc and 18-inc wheels?
Suggest you call your local Toyota dealership.
