A great review picking up on the practical pros and cons of the vehicle. Much preferred to how most car reviewers nit-pick on issues mainly because they drive mutiple vehicles in a year, while most of us just drive one!
Great review Howard... After thinking long and hard about replacing my 2007 diesel Rav 4 with 250k reliable miles after basic DIY basic servicing ~ oil, oil filter, air filter and brake pads every 25k with a convertable have decided buy another Rav with around 40k miles. All the luxuary convertables, Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Jaguar etc seem to have significent issues with reliability and cost a fortune to repair. Toyota seem to be the only company which regularly have recalls ~ even on older vehicles which give complete peace of mind. Having bought previous Rav with 47,000 miles and had it for 12 trouble free years with only a few minor problems this work horse has made for hassle free motoring. Only replacing it because of ULEZ rules coming in but even so it's still worth over 2k. It doesn't even use oil which is amazing for milage and will serve a non-city dweller very well with continued reliability....
I would be subscribing your site because the way you put your opinions across is excellent.Fully agree with you on the RAV4.Have just placed an order for one, where i come from, the model is called the lounge and its top of the range.Of all the cars i did test, before i gave the gold medal to the Toyota, the one that nearly won me over was the Mazda CX5.Thanks for a great review and stay safe out there.
If someone partially sighted was behind one of these when it went into reverse, they'd be looking up to see if they could spot a flying saucer with that weird Sci-fi noise. They would not be looking to see if a reversing Rav4 was going to flatten them :-))... Towns in the UK only flood on Fridays. Not Tuesdays! Monday is misty. Tuesday for tornados. Wednesday is windy (Parp!). Thursday for Thunderstorms and Friday is for flooding. Just for the weekend. Saturday it snows and Sunday, is sunny :-))... Great review again Howard. Thank God for a "cheap" hybrid that doesn't need plugging in too ;-))...
Picked up my Dacoma Grey Dynamic in May and I’m still in love. I do motorway driving and love playing music so never noticed road noise. I must listen for it next time.
A brilliant review,if i may say so,so good in fact that i have now placed an order for my Rav4,which i will get in early June.It has a 4 month waiting list.Have bought the longe version which in my part of the woods is top spec with AWD and 220 BHP.It was a close one between this and the Mazda CX5 but went for the Toyota, for me,it looks better.Have subscribed and look forward to your new reviews.Stay safe mate.
Just bought xle all wheel drive absolutely love it with gas prices going up im getting 44 miles per gallon save enough on gas to pay on the monthly payment
Problem with RAV4 is that unless you go for pricey Excel trim, the creature comforts are minimal. Not even lumber support in lower grades. No paddle shifters in any grade. No electric seat below Excel trim. Tiny screen on dashboard while other cars are having large digital screens. The infotainment is prehistoric. Even legendary Toyota reliability is missing as many owners reported hybrid system malfunction.
If you think this is a good car, you should try the PHEV version. Picked mine up 3 months ago, and so happy with it. 306 hp, very economical, 50 miles to a charge, which covers 80% of my mileage, costing 8p a mile. I cannot fault it in any way.
Thanks for helping others out, so they can be informed accurately. Our test car did have both road and wind noise, but Howard felt that the levels of noise on our test surfaces, in relation to the price of the car were acceptable. Thanks again for your feedback.
Super car like it. One thing i hate is theseatbelt reminder for backseats. My aunt sits in the back and every ride its so loud if she dont fasten within seconds. We want to disable the chime
@@guyheaton8292 I would find it totally okay if the new cars have sesors for detecting backseat passesngers. But it should beeping for 10 seconds and then repeating a ten second beep one minute later. But that is crazy on rav4. It never stops and its crazy loud. We are not against safety. My aunt has when she rides a bicycle to the shop or to the beach reflectors on and wears a bicycle helmet every ride. And on longer rides in car backseat she put her belt on. But she dont use it on short rides in our village when she sits in the back. Its ok because its a 40 km/h zone and we ride very cautiously. Toyota has overreacted it extremely with such sensors. Last time she married again and on the wedding she sat in the backseat. She had a big wedding robe so it took 1 minute until she find the seatbelt. It was crazy loud😆😤
Hi, Splendid review. Looking at other reviews, possible USA, using the repair kit and all the gunge that goes into it, you have to replace the Tyre, True or False, some videos all show in the well maybe have a spare wheel, the shape allows this, Toyota figures say 48 MPH !, you say 40 MPH. who is right, the MPH 48 is a very good selling point, in your show more list, I did not notice the door LHS mirror had a camera, I thought you explained in great detail, I do hope you will comment on my askings. Thank you welshman2081
Hello there, Yes you would need to replace any tyre if you use any repair products. The reviewer's mpg would be what he found over a full week of testing, town and motorway, this is likely to be more "true to life" than OEM test conditions. 48mpg may be achievable. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
@@leasingdotcom Hi If I had just put on a New Tyre, then had a Nail puncture you would have to replace the Tyre, I don't think Toyota would be selling many cars, seeing that a new tyre could cost say £60.00. !!
It doesn’t have more space! And the ride is soooo much better in RAV4. Hands down RAV4 is better all the way around! Those were the two I was looking at so test drove both!
An Americanised design, it looks good. Please avoid the version with the gloss wheel arch protection shite. Totally pretentious. Only thing to put me off is if the engine doesnt have much character.
Yeah, some of us know the difference but for most people the terminology means the same when all they want to know is if it has the ability to help in slippy conditions etc on the roads. AWD, 4x4 whatever. Not something that needs picking up on with a review for a road car. These will be lease cars. They wont be bought by off road enthusiasts to modify with lift kit, winch and snorkel etc. Dont be so serious.
You always know when someone is good on UA-cam,When you watch them regardless of what you are interested in..Another great review Howard,Shame about the Car!!!
Why useless ? If the car can give more grip, even if its on demand, surely thats a good thing ? Any AWD system is better than none. What a weird comment.
Cheap seats. Its not leather ( or if it is is of really bad quality ) and its not cloth either. Dont forget the resell value. That Rav4 will depreciate like mad, courtesy of using batteries. Dont forget that you have to service it in a Toyota dealer because of the complexity of the electric system.
The Excel model has leather seats. Plus if you go for awd the hp is 222. There is less item to go wrong such as starter motor and alternator and water pump as it doesn't have them. There isn't even a fan belt. There is no gear box either. Due to the electric motors the strain on the ice is less and the regenerative braking means that the brakes last longer. Pop into a Toyota dealership and test drive one. The battery has a 10 year warranty.

It has all wheel drive! Electric motors drive the back wheels of the hybrid version.
only if you spec the awd version. its about £1500 more than the 2wd and also improves fuel efficiency so i cant see whay you wouldnt
