      Pretty much the same process as the gen 6, you’ll need to modify the stock mounting bracket for the engine side. Drill two holes in the frame rail, and weld a nut OR a stud through the bottom. Which ever flavor works best for you. I can’t confirm if there’s enough hood clearance though, but there indeed has been multiple 2GR gen5 swaps completed!

    • @WiseGuyzGarage
      @WiseGuyzGarage  Рік тому +1

      Thank you very much! I really appreciate it. So for the fuse box wiring the key point is to stick to the OEM power sources if you can. O2 sensor to 02 power, ignition to ignition power, fuel pump power to fuel pump power, etc. Just make sure you use as many as those factory wiring sources as you can to keep it as simple as possible. Frankenstein motorworks video on wiring the RAV4 harness into the mr2 is very similar to the Celica. The only difference is some of the fuses are in the engine bay fuse box in the front right corner, and some of them are in the cab fuse boxes. Otherwise the process will be exactly the same!

The actual fuel pressure regulator at the moment is from cutting a 3sgte fuel rail and drilling and tapping fittings into it. Now you CAN use Wilhelm Raceworks kit for the Mr2 on the Celica, it should work just fine. The ECU is from Frankenstien Motorworks. Stock 2gr bottom end has been revved out to past 8000rpms. Valves start to float give or take around 7300rpms. Some of the very late 2GR’s used valve springs from the 2GR FKS that would allow them to rev a little bit higher. The s54 does bolt up to the 2GR. Just get an upgraded clutch. The 1mzfe flywheel works just fine on the 2GR. Best standalone for the 2GR is the haltech 2500. It’s what Frankenstien Motorworks uses for his 2GR. He also offers a tune for the aftermarket ecu. I'm also reading things about a immobilizer computer and antenna. Did you have to do anything with that? or did you get the 2 plug ecu out of the rav 4? As for transmission it seems like some people go with e351 or e153. it seems like e351 is easier and cheaper to get, is that what would be best? I've been researching a lot on v6 swaps and if you could compare this swap to a 1mz how much more complicated is the 2gr swap. From your video it seems fairly simple. Thanks

      @@Oliver_stick the ecu is from a 08 sienna. Best ecu options are from a 2011+ sienna ECU. It’s referred to as a 2 plug ECU. Frankenstein motorworks offers the ecu, tune, and immobilizer delete for 545. Pretty much ready to go when doing so. No immobilizer needed after.

      @@Oliver_stick the 2GR is simple in my opinion. You can use a RAV4 v6 passenger side mount and just cut the adapter plate down. Then just drill two holes in the frame and you’re done. Wiring is only 25 ish wires to get everything going, including the gauges and whatnot. Exhaust for both engines are about the same difficulty.

      @@WiseGuyzGarage No worries, thanks for the video
      The 1.8 7A-FE has different motor mounts than the 5S-FE, so that wouldn't be an issue? (I'm guessing you'd have to fabricate them all yourself anyway?)
      Also, does it matter what year Sienna the 2GR-FE is from? Or would it be the same to get one from a Camry for instance?
      In the near future I'd want to attempt to swap the 1.8 out of my Celica (horrific engine, absolutely 0 power haha, makes a lot of noise without actually going forward faster), but am going back and forth between a 3S-GE or based on your video the 2GR-FE
      Would you be interested in doing a video potentially going into more detail on the full swap?

      So there are a few things to consider before moving forward with the engine swap itself. Frankenstein Motorworks only tunes a specific set of ECUs to delete the immobilizer. 2GR-FE ecus are usually referred to as either 5 plug (early Avalon, Highlander, and sienna models) or 2 plug (later Avalon pre 2012, 07-11 Camry, 2012+ Sienna, and RAV4’s). He can only tune specific variants of the 5 plug ecu, and the 2 plug ecu. No Sedan class 2 plug ECU can be flashed due to the immobilizer restrictions.
      I’m not sure if he still tunes 5 plug ECUs anymore but I’m sure if you produce the core he would do it. (No guarantees)
      Now that we have that all out of the way, here is the second thing to consider.
      Oil cooled, or non oil cooled.
      Oil cooled engines are typically in SUV variants of the 2GR. For a car like the celica, the oil cooler isn’t really worth it. I recommend a FWD sedan of some sort, post 2011 model if possible. Early 2005-10 models of the 2GR had cam Phaser issues that can show up on a random strike of bad luck.
      Wiring harness from sedans and SUVs differ in length. The harness in the video is from a Toyota Sienna. I’m not exactly sure if the 5 plug Avalon harness would work. I *believe* the harness from a 2007-11 Camry would work. You would just need to find a pre 2012 RAV4 ECU for that harness, and swap a few pins around.
      The most optimal harnesses for the car would be from a 2GR Toyota RAV4, or a 2011+ Toyota Sienna. Not only are these going to be the cleanest options, (visually) but they are the longest, and provide plenty of slack to allow the plugs to enter the firewall.
      Now the mounting situation, you just need a XB2 Front and Rear transmission bracket, and a STOCK s54 transmission mount. The great news is if you don’t want to buy a used upper transmission mount, the mount Frankenstein Motorworks Sells for the MR2 SHOULD work for the Toyota Celica as well. I highly recommend replacing the front engine mount with the isolator from a Scion XB, as it is much more robust, and will last a lot longer. Since the rear mount is still available for a 94-98 celica GT, we just ran the stock one. The passenger side engine mount that supports the weight of the drivetrain, you NEED to get the engine bracket for a RAV4 specifically. The FWD variants that use a strut torque mount brace, ARE NOT DESIGNED TO HOLD THE WEIGHT OF THE ENGINE!!!!
      That mount requires 2 holes to be drilled into the frame rail. I HIGHLY recommend two really long bolts that would go through the entire frame rail, instead of just welding a nut like we did. It’s much easier that way.
      Hopefully this all helps.
      I plan on making a follow up video discussing the swap in a lot more detail!

      I’m sure the same principle could be applied. I believe the tarcel mounts similar to the st204, so in theory, you could mix/match brackets, and essentially build your own mounts. I saw the tarcel can fit a 2arfe as well too! Something to consider. They can make 230whp with bolt ons.

    • @WiseGuyzGarage
      @WiseGuyzGarage  9 місяців тому +1

      @@AdinSLaboy you could most likely get away with zero welding, in theory if you use a similar style mount on the drivers side you could use a bolt/nut to hold it in place through the bottom of the frame rail! Just use a step-bit and slide the nut up there with some thread locker and that would essentially be the same thing!
