    If anyone is having issues with controlling this lock remotely on the app please read below. Mine started acting up where I would ask to unlock and it would not work or it would say it’s still locked, but it actually wasn’t. I called the company and talk to them for a bit to learn more. They mentioned a few things. More than likely it’s a battery issue and the lock doesn’t have enough power to operate to its best performance or one of the batteries has gone lower than the others so even though it’s reporting good battery health on the app it may not actually have, consistent voltage across all four batteries. I was highly suspicious, but I replaced my batteries and all the remote features now work perfectly again.
    They also had me remove the back cover remove the batteries and take out those two black screws to pull the lock off of the door and be careful cause there’s a wire attached. They had me remove the wire and check it for any damage and put the wire back in. This also sent it Funny, but they said sometimes people can slam the door a bunch and the Plug can come undone or unseated. So that also. Also check that out of the wires on the door or damaged while you have that off. The last thing they had me check was that my app was the most current version. I said my apps update automatically but he said there is a known issue where it looks like you had the app, but you may not actually. So he had me delete the app off my phone put the app back on andthat solved any potential issues. So happy to report that it is going on 2 1/2 years old and everything is working great but I did have a hiccup because my batteries got low and even though it was reporting good battery health on the phone app.

    I am still loving the U-Bolt Pro lock. We use it everyday and saves me lots of time. I never fumble for a key anymore. amzn.to/3RNb3ht

    Your top pick doesn't have a key option so if the battery goes dead you have no way in.

      The fingerprint scanner flips down to reveal a normal lock that can be opened with a key. There’s also a USB input so you can apply power to open the lock. Plus, there’s other doors on the house.

      Thanks for the update. I have been looking for a smart lock and have been doing a lot of research. I researched this lock as I was interested and stumbled across a video showing how easy the lock is to pick. 😮 Now I have decided to go with a smart lock with no key (Yale Assure lock 2) which only has a keypad.

    I went with the August Smart Lock Pro (has a plug-in wifi dongle) because it uses 4 AA batteries instead of the CR123's. While it's larger, it works fine, and combined with the optional keypad allows you to add guests and rules.

      The optional keypad looks nice. And AA are a good idea. Thanks for sharing.

    I got the Lockly Secure Pro and love it. Battery life is insane. Got the lock in October of 2020 and only had to change the batteries once so far. We use the fingerprint unlock and auto lock multiple times a day.

    Ultraloq battery only lasts about a month. Batteries come dislodged if you slam door too hard. No beep if batteries are running low. The bluetooth was useless because it would unlock when I was in the home. Had it for less than 3 months and was locked out twice. Have to keep a key on hand as a result. The mechanism on the inside of the door is plastic so no real quality there and will probably break over time. I'm looking for something to replace it. Preferably something that has a finger print sensor but only allows manual turning of the bolt as bolts get jammed and the mechanism consumes power. Can't find anything on the market that hits those checks though.

    • @fixitwithjake
      @fixitwithjake  Рік тому +1

      I had a really different experience than you. People slam the front door all the time and I’ve never had the battery cover come off. I think mine is six months in and the battery still shows 3/4 full. It never jams on me but if it’s jamming on you often, it probably eats up your battery life. Maybe I have a new updated version of you?

    • @adobo1976
      @adobo1976 Рік тому

      @@fixitwithjake Well I'm at the latest Firmware according to the app and the battery cover isn't coming off. I believe the batteries are losing contact internally because the power is just off. Once I open the cover and reseat the batteries there was power again.

      The ultraloq is garbage, batteries die so fast it is not practical,bunch of money for nothing

    • @adobo1976
      @adobo1976 Рік тому +1

      @@centralscrutinizer76I'm wondering this myself. They've already sent me 2 new locks. The first one was a wifi lock. The second one is a hub lock. I've turned off the autolock feature because if the deadbolt jams it will continuously try to lock the door and drain your battery. Also before I was turning off wi-fi. Loosing both features sucks but it seems to increase the battery life. Hopefully the hub will not drain the battery as fast. I can live without autolock but the remote feature is really nice to know when people are coming in and out.

    • @fixitwithjake
      @fixitwithjake  Рік тому

      @adobo1976 so two things I learned making this video. Any device that’s battery powered and uses Wi-Fi will have very short battery life. That’s why the August smart lock is rated so low on battery life with his Wi-Fi built-in. It takes a lot of energy to stay connected to Wi-Fi. If you want better battery life, you should be looking at devices that connect via Bluetooth to a hub that’s plugged into the wall. That way the hub is connected to the Wi-Fi and using the wall power and only a little bit of battery power is used with Bluetooth. I still never change the batteries in my front door lock and it’s going strong all this time with the Bluetooth hub adapter. Secondly, when I first installed my lock, I didn’t have the alignment correct and so the deadbolt would also jam. While it does that it’s using a lot of electrical power on the motor and wearing out the battery. So it took a little bit of adjusting, and now it works perfect every time. Even after family members slam the door hard. But it’s very important that you get that deadbolt to lock every time and never jam. I hope that helps you guys.

It definitely wouldn’t hurt to buy a couple and play with the phone app before you install it. To make sure it will work for your unique needs. If the lock is great, but the app is bad, it just doesn’t make any sense these days.
