Sokka and Aang have the best relationship. I love the contrast of Aang as the most powerful member of the group, being the literal avatar, and Sokka being the weakest, he’s the only non-bender (til Suki) and isn’t even that great at fighting initially. But they have so much fun together and Aang so clearly looks up to and admires Sokka, who seems like a supportive, big brother to him. And ‘sokka’s master’ clarifies that Aang does need sokka cos he provides direction as well as levity that helps lift the group’s spirit with jokes.
Sokka is a very skilled swordsman and is great with a boomerang. Also, he's really good at reading maps and strategising plans. He's not the 'weakest' member because he's a nonbender. He has lots of things to contribute to team avatar and they're lost without him. He's just as needed as anyone other member in the group and is by far one of the funniest.

Seriously, I love that with all the fantasy and hero's journey stuff, this series truly gets the characterization and relationships right.
