Yeah, science is beautiful! This method is called environmental DNA (eDNA) testing. It involves collecting water or soil samples from the environment and analyzing them for the presence of genetic material left behind by living organisms. After the analysis, the eDNA is compared to known genetic sequences to identify the species present in the studied habitat.
doesn't this beg the question... do we really need to capture these "lost" species if they're able to continue sustaining themselves outside our detection? what if the very attempt to locate and capture them for a breeding program -- which itself may or may not work -- ends up disrupting what little delicate balance they have left?
I love frogs! They’re just so cute :D On a side note, you’ve inspired me to do my own mini ‘missions’. Right now I’m growing native trees to replace the ash trees we’ve lost due to pests, and planning a pollinator garden in my backyard.
Amazing mission. Glad to be a supporter of this. I'm trying to spread the word of your organization, so that we can get more help to those who need it!
I am amazed at how every mission you support is so different. They always remind me of how complex and beautiful our world is. And despite how screwed up things are at the moment, it’s not all lost, thanks to people like the guy in the video and organizations like this that put effort and passion into doing good.
I just visited my local zoo and was amazed to see Panamanian Golden Frogs which are extremely threatened in the wild. They are so beautiful, as are the frogs you show in this video. I am proud to be a supporter of your missions.
I just stumbled upon this video after UA-cam recommended it to me, and I am absolutely impressed by your work. It makes me happy to know that there are so many people out there fighting for the future and I definitely want to be a pt of it. Joining you as a backer. Keep up the great work!
Same here! I have always loved those little “monsters” and it feels really good to support such a project and a company! Thanks and keep rocking Planet Wild 🌍
An amazing mission again. I am so happy that you can found one of the frogs. I am keeping my fingers crossed for finding the female. Looking forward for the news about the other species too! 🐸
Another great mission! I am so proud to be your supporter! I have just upgraded my subscription to hero. Hope to be able to become a legend supporter soon. The work you do is absolutely crucial
You guys rock for helping out with these projects! I don't have much extra money at the moment, but knowing that my 10 Euro go such a long way, makes me feel fulfilled. Happyy to be a member :)
Most frog species are so adorable due to their size; it's just their mucous coatings that kind of gross most people out. Still, they play a key role in their native ecosystems as biological pest control..
True! Which is really a pity, cause their skin and the coating are fascinating! The coating allows oxygen to diffuse into the skin and carbon dioxide to diffuse out - isn't it amazing?
I've loved frogs since I was about four years old when I first saw Kermit on the telly. I've got an old, grainy photo of me with a Kermit soft toy that towered over me, a toy I still have to this day, over forty years on. Frogs are, as you say, amazing animals and they absolutely deserve to be rescued from the plague. So hearing of this frog ark just fills me with so much joy! Thanks for helping to fund their research and breeding programs!
Thanks for sharing this story! 💚 Kermit the Frog has had a significant influence on people's perception and appreciation of frogs worldwide. Did you know that an ancient amphibian species was named after Kermit the Frog not so long ago? It's called "Kermitops gratus". What a great way to bridge science and popular culture! 🐸
Thanks for coming with us to Ecuador and thanks to all the Planet Wild community for support the beautiful work of Jambatu Center. The amphibians conservation is always an enormous challenge due to the limited economic resources available to carry out the investigations. Your support is important.
I love how candid you guys are. I kept half expecting yall to come up with a story like we found them just as we were heading back to the car ... A lot of channels lie or do stuff off camera for clickbait but not you guys.
Same here in northwest MS. Their evening songs used to drown out every other sound. Now it's just a little loud. I've noticed we wait longer to begin hearing them, too, so their mating season seems to be cut short.
😢 It’s really sad to make these observations, isn’t it? And yeah, totally makes sense that snakes would follow the frogs decline - many snake species are adapted to feed on amphibians and cannot easily switch to alternative prey.
Search on ‘insect apocalypse’ if you want to get one step closer. But it’s the plants, the native plants, that are the heart of the problem, at least in developed areas. Replaced by crops, lawns, and invasive species. Fewer native plants-> fewer insects -> fewer birds, herps etc
Before I saw this video, I wasn't really into frogs, but wow, I was blown away by how beautiful they can be! Thanks for helping me see the beauty of nature Planet Wild!
Excelente reportaje y noticias. La Fundación Jambato hace un trabajo excepcional, me allegro tanto que la apoyen y hayan venido a mi país, Ecuador. Súper. Excellent report and news. The Jambato Foundation does an exceptional job, I am so happy that you support it and have come to my country, Ecuador. Super
As a programmer I think I video about designing green code might be interesting. Perhaps making a long video will bore many people or get too technical, but I think a short might be pretty good
Thanks for the video. It’s a great reminder that every species is vital and deserves our care. I hope this video will motivate everyone to be more proactive in protecting nature around us!
This kind of work is incredibly inspiring! It reminds me that there is hope to be had in our futures, and that we can feel empowered to take back the world and put life into it! Thank you for your great work!
Fantastic work, thanks for sharing this. And a useless bit of trivia for you: the name of the local guide, Klever, means 'someone who sticks' in Dutch. Beautiful name for a frog hunter 😄
I love frogs! And great job supporting the conservation center in Ecuador! The americas have such an incredible biodiversity. I am looking forward to more missions in middle and South America 😊
When I think of a frog, I have a typical green amphibian in my mind 🐸 But those little guys provide such a diverse selection of forms and colours, it's mind blowing! Hope we will save some of this fading diversity. Kudos to Jaime, amazing project! 🎉
You've inspired me to make my own lemonade stand and cookies to raise money to save frogs and every person who buys my lemonade and cookies will learn a fun fact about frogs
Beautiful project and very good educational content 👏 My only question is in which way does the frog ark assess what kind of impacts the rewildered and repopulated species can have on the environment too? Maybe I am totally wrong because I am to less informed about amphibians but I think that there could be a huge pressure for amphibian species that are already in the habitats for example because of concurrence for food(I know that a lot of arthropodes live in rainforests, but are they enough too feed all species and allow therefore peaceful coexistences of different frogs species)or places to populate and reproduce. I hope it is clear that this is no criticism for your work or the work of the frog ark at all but a question purely out of interest how they work , assess and possibly ethically discuss their influence in the ecosystem. Love your videos, keep up that groundbreaking and important work 🤩
A very good question! No reintroductions have happened so far - the Ark of the Frogs is working towards doing the first reintroduction later this year/early next year. They carefully plan it and have a set of measures in place, such as reintroducing only in historical places where the species was lost; not reintroducing in areas where extant populations are present, to avoid interfering with them. And of course, monitoring closely to assess the results.

I know I’m like a massive nerd but finding gene evidence in a river that a frog we thought to be extinct could still exist is so bad ass.
Yes. I wanted to know more about that process.
Indeed. From this, we can learn what creatures were there so that the process of repopulating a lost species can occur.
Yeah, science is beautiful!

It’s utterly fascinating how losing for the most part almost any one species or genus of animals would send the ecological balance into utter chaos.

I think I've only seen a frog once or twice out in the wild myself. There are just way too few suitable habitats around.😢
In which part of the world are you? Is it very dry in your area?
@planet-wild US West Coast. I don't think it's generally too dry for frogs, but there is just very little undeveloped land around.
I never gave much thought to frogs but this video totally changed my perspective. Also talk about dedication!

The tiniest frog to feed only 1 type of fruit or food, until it becomes a new species, an evolution, to create an old species - my theory.
About extinction chances, knowing where it was found - the surrounding type of food they eat, to farm them I think should be like that.
