Hi, awesome Idea! It would be good idea to make blocks like this for surf breaks. I think in Australia on the gold cost also has something like that, when I’m not wrong.
They should make those blocks like the Rosetta stone giving an explanation to future archeologists that will find them hundreds or even thousands of years from now. If some future ppl found them, obviously they would consider it as art but would ask why were they sunk kilometers away from the coastline. Also maybe have those blocks be bladed hooks to ensure that nets are easily cut.
Watched another video that shows a La. US company that 3 d prints concrete coral reefs to protect shoreline's. They claim it cost less than 1/2 as using stone . Very interesting and hope people keep developing things to protect us instead of destroying more of the planet.
It’s really amazing seeing people from all walks of life come together to protect the ecosystem. I mean we’ve got artists, fishermen, reporters, quarry workers, and marines.

@theoriginalmonstermaker Abso-funking-lutely. We tend to blame corporate greed - but want fresh fish and meat every day, and cheap. THAT is the problem. Meat and fish/seafood should cost three times more whereas vegetables, legumes, and fruit should be cheap enough to be affordable in abundance every day. Also: trawling is illegal in most European countries, but it should be shunned worldwide - with dire consequences.
And possibly some diving tourism which may add more money to the region and produce its own media coverage over a long period of time, without the organization itself putting more effort into it. That's why I think making them art pieces is VERY smart.
This technique was proposed a long time ago for the waters off Scotland. The fish used to be abundant close to the shore, but now it's been fished out and boats need to go a long way to get a catch. Such a simple solution and one that needs to be deployed worldwide to protect underwater ecosystems 👍🏻

In a lot of places, it is a crime. The criminals just have enough money to protect themselves from the consequences and obfuscate their responsibility through corporate structures so that even if someone does get punished, it's way down the hierarchy. A lot of them are also foreign to the places they damage, so they're never at risk of prosecution anyway.

The fact that he could've just dumped stone onto the ocean floor to stop the trawlers, but instead made fish-friendly art, shows the heart of this man and everyone joining his cause. They weren't just out to stop the greed. They are out to give back to the ocean and therefore to the world by ensuring both fish and sustainable fishermen could survive and thrive. Bottom trawlers are among the most egregious forms of human greed, destroying everything for short-term gains with zero regard for the fact that nothing can be gained from affected areas in the future. We have to stop killers like these from taking the future away from everyone else.
this is such a brilliant idea, and seeing the wildlife reclaim the statues is so beautiful. I also think it really adds rather than detracts from the experience of going diving in the area, and I think it's also a really cool expression of culture. it reminds me of Ovid's metamorphosis, where the gods would often turn specific individuals into trees or animals or something else that rejoins nature. over time some of the more human looking statues will look as if they stepped right out of a story

Thank you for sharing this story. We can do our part by finding out which companies use bottom trawling and stop buying from them. We can use our buying power to affect change. When consumers stop buying their products they will be forced to change in order to stay in business.

I absolutely love this idea! I can totally understand why it needs to be done from my own personal experience. I have been a commercial fisherman most of my life and I worked on bottom trawlers myself for a short time. It began to bother my conscience when I saw all of the by-catch that we were killing. Tons of young fish, a huge diversity of them. I just couldn't do it anymore and so I changed my way of fishing and went strictly to only using hook and line as a way to collect the desired fish without damaging the bottom of the ocean. It's more fun and by far a much healthier way of fishing. We hardly have any by-catch now and we are paid a higher price for our efforts.
it’s so important that we deplatform youtuber charities (that don’t really contribute in a physical and concrete way) in favor of these projects that save entire ecosystems. the quality of this channel is superb and i’m surprised not more people are subscribing and supporting this cause!
So many beautiful people. I wish the world's governments would do their jobs. Individuals shouldn't have to be risking their lives to protect us from greed.
It would be really awesome if you could make a crossover with the scientists who work with ancient saltwater concrete. Like a gallery is protected, a lab is as well. And it would bring more attention. Maybe an artful mould could be made to make it a divers paradise.

I will be renewing my membership with you because I know by donating what I can afford to you, I'm actually doing something real to help the World and not just watching the videos.
I hope this man's life is blessed. What an exemplary & brilliant man to not only care for the environment and the abundance of living creatures that depend on it, but to actively take part in sustaining it for future generations. We need more Paulo's in the world.
Sinking art is a nice idea but it would be faster and easier and cheaper to use old cement light poles and scrap culverts. Big buckets with rebar hooks poking out of the top and filled with cement would be really easy to make, and they would totally shred nets. For 24k EU I could make a LOT of net snaggers. Then anyone could sink them in places nobody dives. They wouldn't be pretty, but they'd attract fish you could catch fish around them with hooks. I think there are cheaper ways to ruin the nets and stop the bottom trawlers. And I wish they'd be installed around the entire coast of the USA and lots of other places too.
Thank you for brightening my day! It's been a REALLY bad couple of weeks for me and the world. I really needed to see something this beautiful going on. Again, thank you SO much.

After 3 projects, and seeing what planet wild has done, I have increased the amount of my membership to help, At least this way I may be able to leave something to the future.
Amazing! Thanks so much for your support and making our missions possible 🙌
@@planet-wild No thank you, your the ones doing the hard lifting, I wish I was younger, and able to do more.
Thanks for the transparency that the sculptures are not that effective and that they're too close to the land to really safe the sea ground. I hope there will be another sotry about the second mission for more barriers placed along the coastline.
I love this so much, I'm so proud to be a backer even though I can't afford to donate much
Again, I cry... hope has become painfully fragile, but Planet Wild is such a tender caretaker!
So happy I found this channel, its an honor to be a supporter!
Trawling fishing is like to use a renaissance painting to start a cooking fire
this is such a brilliant idea, and seeing the wildlife reclaim the statues is so beautiful.
So cleaver ! So full of hope and joy ! We love you Paolo 🥰
And we love you Planet Wild 😍
Really great project!!!
We need everyone on earth to see your channel!

Hello there, Just discovered your channel.
I find two things that are amazing in your videos:
1) First, your solutions not only works, they tend to work fast
2) Second, I am always struck by how cheap those solutions tends to be. That's truly amazing !
Keep up the good work !
Thanks for your feedback, and it's great to have you with us 😊
Thank you for sharing this story. We can do our part by finding out which companies use bottom trawling and stop buying from them. We can use our buying power to affect change. When consumers stop buying their products they will be forced to change in order to stay in business.
Faith in humanity restored. At least a little bit.
This is completely amazing, interesting and stops the awful trawlers. More statues, more concrete blocks, more people like him and those that helped him, please please.
Wonderful! Just wonderful! 💚
Paulo your passion to protect the beautiful sea, your home, is absolutely beautiful. Your passion is deeply moving to all of us watching you. We all thank you deeply for your work 💚🌎🌍🌏💚
More of this!!
This gives me a little spark of hope. But there are whole oceans out there that need our help, and people like Paolo are what we need.
Thank you for covering this important issue.
Paolo is a legend
Good work!!
It would be really awesome if you could make a crossover with the scientists who work with ancient saltwater concrete.
Like a gallery is protected, a lab is as well. And it would bring more attention.
Maybe an artful mould could be made to make it a divers paradise.
What a creative solution!
I am italian and knew about this amazing story since a while, but now I am so so proud of being one of the backer of this project! It is quite wild (pun intended) to be part of this marvellous story! huge thanks to Paolo, first of all, and also all the Planet Wild team!!
This is absolutely awesome!
Another glimpse of hope in a world seeming to get worse and worse. Thanks for that, guys!
Thank you again for a wonderful project. Wow over 10,000 views for this video. I hope most of them have joined Planet Wild because I know every small amount helps. I will be renewing my membership with you because I know by donating what I can afford to you, I'm actually doing something real to help the World and not just watching the videos.
Thanks for your support - it really does make a huge difference! 🙌
Great work!
A beautiful video to wake up to. Thanks for showing us how innovation works to make the world better
I have seen similar structures in Thailand while diving in ko tao that promote coral and marine wildlife. Truly amazing.
You guys are the rockstars of rewilding! Keep being Awesome! Keep becoming even Awesomer!!!
Thank you for brightening my day! It's been a REALLY bad couple of weeks for me and the world.
I really needed to see something this beautiful going on. Again, thank you SO much.
Great work and well done to everyone involved :)
You guys are like the only thing that gives me hope
Awesome project
Beautiful ❤ thank you

I love that you're making a difference, not just reporting on these issues. Thank you!
Amazing! So proud to contribute to something so beautiful ❤
This is a splendid project. It uses a very simple tactic to get the job done, while overcoming legal hurdles and wins time for the environment while the efforts to sort out humans who are not OK, continues.
I'm a chick forest technician from Montreal, unite good people of the world, re-wilding works! Bon weekend from French Canada 🇨🇦! ❤
