My grandfather (born around 1890) used to sing this to me when I was little, had seen it being performed many times . His phrasing was identical to EWs. I didn't know the Equaliser had such a marvellous voice!
After FORTY YEARS, I decided to try and find this song tonight. I was probably only five when I last heard this version of this song (maybe four, I can't remember exactly) (my Mum had it on a cassette - but it wasn't hers as she only played it at my grandmother's house!) and here it is! Now to find I copy I can call my own. But I appreciate this upload as it is a great song and it has clarified that THIS is the version I heard back then. Though as a kid, I knew the name Edward already but I still said his name was Edwood Woodwood!
I'd love to know where the picture of Mr Woodward in a leather jacket with a dockland backdrop is from. If it isn't a still from a film or TV series it looks as if it were taken on location.

The only information I found about those photos is that they were pictured in Kingston, October 1971.
Wow. Perfect!
