Hi Eleanor, if you like this breakdown, you'd love the Jazz Style section of my Sax School. In that course I go over several written out solos and teach you how to articulate and play everything. After working through a few of them, you will start to hear and play jazz lines that way without even having to think about it. Here's the link if you're interested: www.scottpaddocksaxschool.com
Thank you. Thing's gotten clear. And what about these unwritten rules in the music of the swing era? I assume it should be the difference compared with bebop.
Thanks Scott - good work! Do you think it's a good idea to think of eighth note lines as 'peaks' and 'troughs' and to emphasize the peaks (goal notes), at least for starters?
Awesome video.!!. Breaking it down.. this is a major??.. is this 2 5 1 or something like that..in improv how do you transition to get those cool sounds..u give me that motivation that once had..when I had my h.s. pro teacher..showing us the ropes..t.y..
Thankful and .. interesting. I have felt the same way about Mr. Scott Paddock. He answers emails, uses useful materials for those wanting to learn and shows in a objective way what is needed to do. Of course, it is up to the student to dedicate time to improve her skills. Definitively Mr. Paddock gives you right, great and "what you are looking for" input. I have been thinking about pay him some sort of deposit so I can contact him in particular issues where I know I need some help.

If you mean the top and bottom notes in an eighth note line.... yes, that's a good start!
You are really good teacher 🙏🙏 btw i am not a saxophonist .
Thank you! 😃

Hey! Thanks. There are 2 5 1s all over this song, but the focus on the articulation and phrasing, not improv or chords.
Good insight into bebop, not so sure about the tone from his sax - maybe harder reeds?
