    I agree that learning articulation on scales is the best way as the learner can focus purely on the articulation assuming they know at least one scale. Going up to the 9th is nicer than turning round on the octave and encourages emphasis on the highest note which is another part of phrasing.

      Going to the 9th is always great. But there are benefits to all scale exercises indeed. And getting the articulation right makes you sound so much better

    You are great at breaking things down in a way that makes it easy to apply. This video and the 8 chords video both taught me a ton and there's so much more to watch! Thanks!

    I like Hank Mobley’s articulation, I find it light on articulation, than again I like dexters articulation which is heavy , two opposites

      You are spot on John. Great to hear from you :)
      Try to steal, borrow and copy from the solos. The best way yo learn is to copy the masters :)

      @@sorenballegaardmusic Yo Søren! Heya kind Sir - i don't want to rub you the wrong way, being as you are our magic genie in the bottle, say. Lol. Actually, at about 5:16 you use the very words, direct and accent, that is in context. So its for real! Ya. And what a really terrific lesson this is! As you impart to us, it's so very important to keep the air ON and, further, to master and articulate our tounge's with attitude. Yes? "Direct accent". Knowledge is power. You are the man! You beauty you! Thanks so much for sharing. Whoo hoo. Step right up! As you may appreciate, Søren, 'it does not hurt to use the tounge kindly'. Haha :-)

    It's going to be a little difficult to articulate the very first two notes, before ceasing on the and-of-2 AFTERWARDS, but will give this a shot. For the past 6+ months, been trying NOT to use my tongue on the first note of anything. Thanks again. :)

    • @sorenballegaardmusic
      @sorenballegaardmusic  Рік тому

      Totally true. Try train staccato articulation where you articulate every note.
      And the try to slur all notes articulated.
      Sometimes the tongue can be in the way also....
      Lots of options.
      Let me know how it goes
