Excellent tips. I'm taking them to the practice room now. My troubles occur mostly when I'm going from a higher note to a lower note, like an A to a low C. Perhaps I'm too tense on the higher notes too. I'll work on it.
Salut Yannick, merci beaucoup pour ces reminders and also a big thank for your good and well prononce English.
Thanks that's was helpful as I was always having trouble with my low notes.now I have something to practice more than practicing music first.thanks
Yannick, you are a great teacher, on top of being a great sax player of course! ;-) Thanks a lot for what you do.
Thanks a lot Michel!
Toujours aussi clair. Merci!
Merci!
Great recommendations! 🙏
excellence tutorial , you are the best teacher , thank you very much for shearing .
Thanks !
Very helpful tips. I will concentrate practicing those. Subscribed.
Thanks!
Excellent!
You are a fabulous player !
Could you describe what you're doing with your embouchure / vocal tract when you are playing softly ?
I'm a begginer sax player (3 weeks), and I have been learning the saxophone basics through youtube videos.
I can play (erratically) softly by "generally" softening / relaxing my mouth / lip pressure.
I'm also placing the mouthpiece barely in my mouth to achieve the soft / low volume.
I know I need to work on getting my throat / chest relaxed, as sometimes I'm not getting *any* air at all.
Blowing through the diaphragm / gut, is someting I'm slowly getting better at.
I've always wanted to try playing the sax, and now at 66 going on 67 yrs "young" I'm finally starting :)
Nice lesson
Thanks!
Hi. Thanks for your video. I’m have problems playing the low D note. I’ve tried so many ways but I get it sometimes however most times a harmonica sound comes out. Any advice? Thanks
Great!
how can I tell if the low notes below C are bad as a result of leaks?
Fantastic video, thanks!
I've been playing for 6 months now and am still struggling with low notes - playing them by themselves or in together with other low notes works fine, but playing high, then low is a real challenge. I feel like I get better luck if I put more mouthpiece into my mouth of slide my bottom teeth/lip forward for low notes.
Do you have any tips for playing high and low in quick succession? Do you find yourself adjusting your embouchure/relaxing when you drop down from top of 2nd octave to bottom of 1st octave?
Hi, you should try to keep you embouchure pretty much the same on the whole register
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your knowledge. I am nearing 62 years of age, and I recently purchased a $300 Alto Sax because I caught a bug to learn how to play it. So are you saying it is not necessary to use the Ole teeth on the mouthpiece while playing in general, or only when attempting the low notes? I appreciate your input. Wish me luck?!! 😂😂
Good luck on your journey, it’ll take a long time to get good so don’t get frustrated! I know that was what discouraged me in the beginning! Good luck!
Great video BTW,. What Theo Wanne mouthpiece are you using?
Thanks, it is the Durga 3 model
Interessant, j'essayerai tout ça demain :)
😎 cool
@@YanickCoderreSaxophone Et bingo c'était ça merci, je mordais trop l'embouchure. Les graves sortent bien mais maintenant les aigus crient. Pour le Fa# (alto) je me retrouve à jouer souvent les overtones. Des idées ?

Why I cannot play low notes straight especially B flat , then C # and B
but if I am coming gradualy from low note it's ok
I am trying to play saxophone now for more than 6 years, same fricken problem.
I feel like just throwing it
can you answer my question please , or anyone who can help
when you have an audition later on today and just now practicing 🤡
Good luck with your audition!
Bonjour Yannick
it was(and still is) pretty much difficult for me to play sax cuz i am a clarinet player and my embouchure needs to be tight
Hi Yanick - wondering if you have any trouble with leaking reeds on that Wanne mp? I use Vandoren jazz ZZ reeds and not 1 of them achieve suction test after the first few minutes on my new Gaia 3
No never noticed that
@@YanickCoderreSaxophone Thank you for your prompt reply
The low c on my sax vibrates extremely
Is it all about 'chi'
You look like the rock
Dear Yanick, Very good video and very helpful. However, as a retired surgeon I would have to take issue with you about the use of the word "diaphragm". The diaphragm is a thin sheet of muscle shaped like an umbrella that separates the chest cavity from the abdominal cavity. When the muscle of the diaphragm contracts, the diaphragm becomes flatter, thus pulling air into the chest. When you breathe out, the diaphragm relaxes, and the muscles that force the air into the saxophone are the anterior abdominal muscles, the ones you were pointing to when you said "the diaphragm". This is a very common mistake, and I do hope you don't mind my pointing it out.
Thank you for the valuable info Michael!

By closing all the keys, although i do think that your soft playing isn't really soft. it's just very breathy. Having a clear and soft lower notes is difficult, though.
No be chise
