I am 57 years old right now and I still play this song at max volume just like I did when I was a teenager. brings back memories of girls, cars and wild times !!!
The production on this song has always blown me away. The guitars are super crunchy, the drum sound is perfect and I love the explanation of the three part solos. The very definition of rock 'n roll.
I remember being a 14yr old kid trying to learn "I Like To Rock" and being completely blown away hearing "Day Tripper" and "Satisfaction" in the end there... Massive respect and admiration for this band. RIP Steve Lang.
Saw them play this when they opened for Styx. Fall 1979 Long Beach Arena, CA. My Friend & I scored had front row center stage seats. April Wine blew Styx off the stage that night. I will never forget that show!
THANK YOU FOR INVENTING THIS SONG .... THIS ALBUM .... ALL OF YOUR MUSIC....!!!!!!! TO THIS DAY I LOVE IT LIKE THE FIRST TIME I HEARD IT WHEN I WAS A KID. You gotta check out all the "Reactions" to this song by people hearing it for the first time. Everyone likes it a whole lot..!!!!!!!! Thank you April Wine for being soooooooo great...!!!!
April Wine guitarist Brian Greenway once told me that it was AW guitarist Gary Moffat who came up with that signature opening lick. And if you watch the AW Live in Grand Rapids video of this song you will see that it is indeed Moffat who opens the song solo (with his lick).
@@brucecall1595 So ironic; a Flint-based radio station put this song (& April Wine) in2 the national spotlight. They had a few hit songs prior 2 "Roller" but "Roller" made April Wine a household name (thanks 2 that Flint radio station).
@@brucecall1595 Correctamundo u r!!!!! Shit; I also remember back in 1982, WWCK played "Don't Fight It" by Loggins & Perry. Another underr8d rocker. Thanks 4 the reminder. "Harder & Faster" was one of the albums that opened up the guitar neck for me. Especially King Crimson's "21st Century Schizoid Man," Babes In Arms," and "I Like To Rock." And I saw them live here in Seattle and they were fckng phenomenal. Myles did a lot more of the solos than I thought he did ... Brian Greenway was/is still absolutely incredible.
I can still remember being 12 years old (I’m 58 now) and hearing “Oowatanite” from the 1975 album Stand Back for the very first time. The entire album rocks. It blew my little mind, and All these years later I still love this band!
Loved April Wine with 22,000 fans, loved them in a small bar in Kansas City. Great sound, great ROck-n-Roll... The reason so many rock bands learned to ROCK! 40 Years.... fan, and still ROCKEN METAL!
I love "Roller" by April Wine. Myles is right Music and Math are one. I love how he explained the three guitar solo. I always thought it was done ny one guitarist. Thanks for sharing on a rock classic, Myles
"Roller" was the song that got me into April Wine, still to this day a killer rock n' Roll track. I was 15 in 77' when that song debuted. Another killer song is Silver Dollar, & of course Sign of the Gypsy Queen. Canadian bands were sometimes, most times overlooked. Rush got the most attention, that is history. But there was April Wine, Triumph, Saga all great bands who made their mark, paid their dues, delivered some really really great music. From a rock n' roll fan, Thanks for all the great tunes, & great memories, you are much, much appreciated. 😁😎🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
My son just got signed in L.A. We live in a town of 2800 in NW Ontario. He grew up listnin to you guys and all the other amazing Canadian bands from the 80's even though he's only 15. April Wine are musical Gods. Listen for Alex Sampson Myles.
I remember and liked their hit "I wouldn't want to loose your love" back in the fall of 1974. Every time I hear it played it makes me wish I was only 15 again. April Wine have to one of the best Canadian bands around because a few years later in my travels I have heard their hit songs played on AM/FM radio stations as far away as New Zealand where their music also went famously and where their album/CD's were also in considerable demand, so that just goes to show that the band had incredible significance. However, we gotta hand it to the frontman of the band, Myles Goodwin who made it all happen.
Saw April Wine in Quesnel at the Seniors’ Centre a few years ago and my sons and I sat there with our mouths agape. We were absolutely blown away. Best small venue musical performance EVER!

One of my favorite numbers of all time - for many reasons, not the least of which was the synchronicity of the guitar work; its great to hear the story. Thanks!
Hello from the USA Myles! I was a young 14 year old boy when I was given your Nature of the Beast by a local radio station in Albuquerque, NV. It wasn't until years later I discovered "Roller." Wow, such a great party or concert song, with purpose. I watched a live performance on you-tubie. Like right off the album. I'm not sure why America never supported our Canadian neighbors music. Heck Yeah... If it rocks, it rocks!
I know you're gone brother but I have to say this much, April Wine was the first band I saw live at a hockey rink in Bridgewater Nova Scotia, and of all the great songs this band has recorded, no song has the ending like this one. With headphones on, I get goosebumps every single time I hear that ending. Genius it is. I'll do my best to keep April Wine alive on my channel with covers I'm allowed to showcase.
I agree. The first time I saw them was at the QEII high school theatre style auditorium in June 1974. They were recording their 1st live album. What a thrill that was for a young teenager to experience. Good memories for sure. cheers.
In late 1979, April Wine was really hot and opening for Foreigner on the Head Games Tour. But April Wine got snowed in at the airport and couldn't make it to Pocatello, ID, so we all missed them live! Many had gone to see April Wine and thousands had waited outside in 15* weather for hours. Foreigner put on an incredible live show that made up for it and the rowdy, hard-partying crowd was amazing. This Myles cat is great. His voice was really cool and edgy.
Myles Goldwyn was in his prime from 1978 to 1982. He wrote some great songs before that period, but the lineup with Greenway, Moffet, Mercer, and Lang was BRILLIANT. 🇨🇦
I remember this song would crank up on my car stereo in the 80s, and sound so big compared to lots of other music from this era, remarkable clarity and punch, killer tune.
I seen them on the Powerplay tour at Wings Stadium in Kalamazoo Michigan. I think the Rockets opened for them if I remember correctly. I was high at alot those concerts back so if I'm wrong let me know.

Every time I hear this song I think of Ol’ Joe Dirt taking the dodge Hemi down the road blasting April Wine. You can’t have “No” in your heart brother.
