Nice, you're right about major scale practice too. Thanks! 90's though, no this band was all about the 80's. I think that song was released 87' or so. Some of the more melodic stuff being played on the radio to come out of that era though certainly not the only. Bravo, you have a handle on so many genres.
I've been wanting to play this song for ages and thanks to you I have finally finished it..great lesson thanks 😊 I will be sure to check more of your videos 🎸
Fantastic lesson! You break each part down so well. I can't wait to get this song right - especially the rhythm. As a novice player in my 50s I'm glad I've learned chords, but now I need to play them with some feeling!! 💘
Some Smiths? Sheila take a bow, girlfriend in a coma, what difference does it make? Something other than "how soon is now?" would be great. Thanks Marty!
Don’t make it power chord, it’s a B minor so you need to hit all the strings to make it sound right. What may help people is to play the E chord with your 2nd, 3rd, and 4th fingers (as opposed to the 1st 2nd 3rd way that most of us learn) that way when you switch to the B minor your hand is already halfway there
If you can't make all the chords !?? Obviously you need to PRACTICE MORE !!! Practice chords. Then practice more chords. Or just keep practicing the same bar chords over & over. Simple.
B minor is a tough one. Been playing 6 years and I'm still 50/50 on landing it perfectly or having it sound sloppy. Practice, practice, practice. Look up lessons on practicing barre chords and find a method that works for you. Everyone's hand is different. I need to keep my index finger up higher or I don't get a clean barre. For a B minor, I just strum from 5 down and try not to put full pressure on the low E so it's muted if I accidentally hit it. Some pointers that help me are: keeping your fingers close to the strings when changing chords(very important for barre chords); visualizing the next chord in advance and with barre chords I focus on landing the 2-3-4 fingers first and the index finger(barre) kind of follows - squeeze tight. Also make sure your guitar is set up for low comfortable action and don't forget to check the nut action. High action at the nut will make barre chords on the lower end of the neck very difficult.
Love yah Marty, thanks for all the wicked vids. :) I've been playing for about a year now and thanks to you I sound like I've been playing my whole life. ~cheers
Thankyou so so much! This is one of my favorite songs that reminds me of my childhood, but for some reason i never thought about learning how to play it! Thanks again marty you rule!
Very helpful. I was having such a hard time with a couple of the chords and transitions and watching you helped a lot thank you! I'll be back for more for sure.
Thank you Marty! One year of you, teaching me! And I am learning more and more each day!! The first song I learned was from the Wish you were here video lesson! Are there other songs similar, the combo of melodics and strumming that are fun?
Hey Marty , I always love your lessons ,it would be cool if you would tell me what the tuning is for all these great songs you do .Tuning for dummies that can't tell if your standard or D or what ever. Can you do God of wine ? Thanks Marty for all you do to give to us out here!
Would you think it would sound good to play the melody with harmonica instead of solo with the guitar? I mean that way with the harmonica holder you could play the whole song by yourself in kind of a cool way. What harmonica should we use then?
I love that song and have always wanted to learn how to play it but I can't find sheet music to it because its a Japanese song. It's so beautiful and the chords sound so easy and I want to play it so bad!!!!!!
Hey :). Can you please make some more difficult songs?? Every songs you are teaching are so easy... Maybe every third song can be a little bit harder, so there are not only beginners who can enjoy your lessons ;). ( sorry for my English, I'm from Germany)
Marty, is the Cure guitar player playing the A chord riff and hitting the open high E strings as he goes down the B string? It sounds like it. Of course, there is a lot of Chorus on there so hard to tell for sure.
Practice moving your hands to each cord without strumming. Then just practice strumming. Then practice doing both together individually. Then slowly try more and more. If that makes sense
Just learning guitar at 49 and this gives me hope that I can play a classic The Cure track one day
Just keep practicing you will succeed
Right on! 🤘🤘
You will Stuart
When you go into slow-mo for 3:04, I feel you are catering this lesson right to me! I am not a natural and your tutorials really help!
You and Justin Sandercoe and inspirational and the two main reasons I am persisting at learning guitar after five years, massive thanks to you both.
Nice, you're right about major scale practice too. Thanks!

Yes finally a tutorial for The Cure
Never played guitar before I’m being a little too ambitious lol
this is the first song I played in 2 days
You’ll be okay keep practicing. This song is definitely worth learning
You can learn this(: the bar chord will be the hardest
You got it now? Lol I was just learning it myself.
give us an update
I've been wanting to play this song for ages and thanks to you I have finally finished it..great lesson thanks 😊 I will be sure to check more of your videos 🎸
Great description of strumming rhythm whereby your hand keeps moving and you leave out or-emphasize- on certain ups and downs!
Best Instructor I've ever had! Very inspiring!
Marty, I'm watching your vids through your different sources since years and I tell you, you're the boss.
I’m a beginner on the guitar and I learned this song in one day. Great videos.
Fantastic lesson! You break each part down so well. I can't wait to get this song right - especially the rhythm. As a novice player in my 50s I'm glad I've learned chords, but now I need to play them with some feeling!! 💘
This is definitely one of your best tutorials Marty. Thanks!
Great lesson, simple, carefully and easily explained - 5 stars
Some Smiths? Sheila take a bow, girlfriend in a coma, what difference does it make? Something other than "how soon is now?" would be great. Thanks Marty!
Man I can not get the B chord my hand just won't let me have it
practice and it will always land!
Just make it a power chord

bluelou3000 You know that "The Cure" is actually a british band, right?!
Whatchootalkinbout Willis?
Maybe it was supposed to be part of his earlier comment, "Please, please, please, please
Regret by Mai Hoshimura!!!!!!!!!".
Hey :). Can you please make some more difficult songs?? Every songs you are teaching are so easy... Maybe every third song can be a little bit harder, so there are not only beginners who can enjoy your lessons ;). ( sorry for my English, I'm from Germany)
Amazing!

Just like a heaven is very different!
Wandering if you could do Driven Under by Seether?
If you don't mind , what is the Acoustic guitar model you are playing ? Let me know , I like the sound.
Going from E to b is just so damn hard!! 😓
I just can’t get the strumming pattern down, I need to restart the strumming pattern every-time I change chords. Can anyone help?
Practice moving your hands to each cord without strumming. Then just practice strumming. Then practice doing both together individually. Then slowly try more and more. If that makes sense
Cool! Can you do a tutorial for Story of my Life by 1D?
Could you please make a lesson featuring a how to play for "John the Revelator"- acoustic version.
