  • This is not just an OBD2 scan tool that will only interrogate a portion of the engine computer. This is a legit full function scan tool and will scan all modules on the car, provide live data on those modules AND true bi-directional controls, not just reset procedures. I am absolutely shocked at what this tool will do for $100.

We used it on a 2018 Land Rover. Our fully updated $12,000 Snap On would only work on Global OBD2. This did a full scan and also reset the oil maintenance.
Not saying that it will replace our Snap On. It works great for what it is.

I got the topscan thinking it was going to be like all the other bluetooth scanners and oh boy was excited to be so wrong. The topscan is the only one i recomend for all my customers now. For the price, it absolutely cannot be beat. Topdon really has their stuff figured out. I keep mine in my emergency mechanic bag now for when im on the road and not near my shop. If anyone is on the fence about getting one, get it! You cant go wrong with the top scan!

100 per year is what the website says, subject to change like anything else I'm sure. Every so often manufacturers update. 2 app updates and 1 firmware update so far. It pulled the pin code for programming keys. The old scan tool always failed to do so. I had to get it from a dealer. Updates on the old tool is 600 a year. So far the only productive thing the old tool has done was programming a steering module.

Been using the Lite for a while. Great tool for under $100. Very capable. Only difference between Lite and Pro is a handful of resets and IMMO functionality. I purchased the IMMO functionality add on but the other resets I'm not fussed, can use my other scan tools for that. This comes everywhere with me. Very capable tool with that bidirectional control. Works quite fast on my phone too. Graphing seems alright.

Wow, nice scan tool. Looks like TopDon is the new Launch when they started killing the competition with affordable prices. Too bad for me as I just purchased the non-BT x431 two mos ago for 4x of this one's price. One thing I've noticed on the lower end tools like my x431 that aside from not having the topology of the modules I can't do active tests while monitoring the live data stream. So I can't read my O2s while I activate the purge valve. But I guess that's what differentiates the higher end tools.

My question has to do with the topdon scanner you featured in a video a while back that gives ability to do bi-directional controls and stuff like that from your phone. Are you by chance still using it and do you have any updates on the performance of it? Just got the Topscan in the mail and can confirm that it's surprisingly impressive for a Bluetooth dongle.
I've owned a few in the past, all of them were useless other than providing a generic scan, voltage reading, some basic PIDS etc.
I've only used the Topscan on one car so far, but the data is there, surprisingly a lot, graphing is pretty good, and it really does do bidirectional controls.
It just all really depends on what the care allows the scanner to do. If I'm not mistaken, if the ECU doesn't show the data the scanner wont have anything to pick up on. So, for example, the Mitsubishi I scanned didn't show any sort of BCM or the sorts for me to scan into.
I'm seriously also considering the Phoenix Lite 2.

You don't need a "reset". You have a fault that needs tracked down to what the root cause is. This starts with a scan tool that can actually talk to the system with the fault, which this one will!

@@ScannerDannerThe Topdon Topscan looks like a One-Stop deal for those wanting simplicity and great coverage. I plan to get one. The OBDLINK MX+ (with included OBDlink software) scans every module on every vehicle I've used it on (Ford, GM, FCA, VW, Nissan). Data is fair, but no bidirectional controls. It's a great adapter to use with other paid software, some of which are OEM level (really OE level).
