I think the reason Joel doesn't want to come along is more than just not wanting to be a liability: it's because he knows that if he comes along, he'll continue to bond with Ellie, and continue to care about her more and more. As you mentioned, the panic attacks are signaling that his "Dad Brain" is coming back online - and that means that if he comes along with Ellie, and then she dies, it will DESTROY HIM forever. He barely survived Sarah's death with his sanity (and will to live) intact, after all. And he knows that he can't, CAN'T survive another loss of that magnitude.
Given all this, the fact that he ultimately chooses to stick with her anyway (despite the soul-wrecking pain that it risks) is really incredible.

Joel has been trying to keep an emotional distance from Ellie. Unfortunately it's failed and they've grown gradually closer. That confrontation in Ellis "room" needed to happen. It basically tore all or most of the walls down that were still up.

If Pedro Pascal is not nominated for best actor at every awards show this year WE RAMPAGE!!!
This was perhaps my most anticipated episode of the season and somehow it’s BETTER THAN THE GAME! Jackson looks beautiful and Gabriel Luna is as perfectly cast as Tommy as Pedro is for Joel. But what really got me were scenes of Joel clutching his heart from panic attacks and looking up to see a young woman who almost looks like Sarah, and when he was telling Tommy the truth that he believed that he was going to fail Ellie and get her killed.
When Joel was getting teary eyed I cried at that scene, but when we got to my absolute favorite dramatic scene in the game when Joel and Ellie are talking about loss I lost it. That was my most anticipated scene of the entire series and not only did it live up to the hype, it exceeded it. And just like the game it broke me.😭😭😭😭

The way the writer told us about Joel struggling the more he bonds with Ellie, is amazing. He can't sleep for a while now and tries to avoid it and when he falls asleep, he balmes himself for failing Ellie.
He doesn't see himself as a liability, he gets older, but he is still more capable than the average man, he is just afraid to hurt again and he will do anything, make the most stupid decisions, to not feel that way again. The show displays perfectly, what the game struggled with, the biggest factor in Joel's decisions are his trauma. Sure he likes Ellie, but he wouldn't act the way he does, if there wasn't his trauma. His trauma is stronger than the fatherly feeling he has for Ellie. When he waits at the horse for her he even tries to make her say "I go with Tommy" by giving her the choice, he tried to get out. That's really important for what will come.

I think being afraid that the bat in a baseball game breaking and shard flying everywhere is perfectly fine thing to be cautious about

Interesting the end credits song was a cover of the Depeche Mode song that ep 1 ended with, Never let me down again.

Some mammals run the same temperature as humans, so those mammals could be infected by the fungus. Dogs and cats run too hot. Monkeys can sometimes be around the same temperature as humans but they mostly run a little hotter. It would depend on the heat tolerance of the cordyceps and the temperature of the individual monkey, I think. Horses usually run only slightly hotter than humans, so it'd be about the same as monkeys. The normal range for horses starts at 99 degrees.

I've seen more than a few videos of people in stands doing stellar jobs catching broken and errant bats. It's usually people who don't look alarmed or afraid. It's normally people who move slowly with faces that say, "I got this."

Great reaction as always guys! 👍
I gotta say I'm a little surprised that they aren't trying to stretch out this season. I feel like between the 2 games the 1st would be the easiest to explore some time gaps.
That said, I'm enjoying the journey with you guys thus far.😁

One of the best depictions of a panic attack in a movie is on Puss in Boots 2

I thought it was great, that they played the same Depeche Mode song they did from the first episode meaning trouble at the end just a cover.

Pedro killed it but really gotta give props to Bella (especially when talking about those she lost) and especially Tommy. His acting is more subtle but very good as well.
