Tommy knows Joel well enough to know that Joel would come looking for him and put himself in danger for him. Irresponsible to stay radio silent. He should have found a way to get word to Joel that he was fine and don't come for him. Tess is dead because of Tommy's failure to predict Joel's actions.
@@Dave3Dguy I agree so hard man. That is your brother you of all people should know not only how capable he is to where he would even consider crossing the country to find you but also just how paranoid not hearing from you would make him.
It was a massive asshole move to go radio silent on him, Joel could have tried trying to get to him. He should have simply said "im in a community im ok, we are quitting radio usage" Maria really seems like a bitch in the show lol, she is cold in the game but now this much hah
Totally. Part of me wishes we got to see more of them but another part of me knows that if we did, they would've ended up dying. I couldn't take another death of a likeable character.
I love when creators actually do it right when adapting a video game story to screen. Not just TLOU, but there is so many more that can be done this way.
Family is traveling half way across the country, mostly on foot braving every manner of tragedy only to have a tearful reunion one moment and then the next movement leave things on a "Well yeah, fuck you too!"
I saw one reaction to this where they started crying as soon as they saw Tommy. "They keep introducing characters and then they kill them. I cant watch Joel lose his brother too!"
The monkeys were not baboons, but macaques. There are quite many different species, mostly in Asia (even as far as the most Northern big Japanese isle Hokkaido; the Japanese Macaque) . For research usually the rhesus macaque are used, because they are relatively easy to keep. Baboons would be to dangerous. All the best from the Netherlands!
Hi, I'm a MoCap performer and gotta say The Naughty Dog has always had an amazing team of cutscene writers and directors. These showrunners really did a justice to the video game. Also wanted to share a painful story of mine about the new Resident Evil Remakes. In late 2015 I was in contact with Capcom about the facial likeness role of Leon for the RE 2 Remake. I failed to mention I also have a voice acting background, in the end I lost the part... Now, many years later, when I see how successful those remakes are I can't forgive myself for wasting such a chance. In this business one audition can change your entire life.
Fun fact: in the video game, you can find notes and audio recordings in the University of Colorado that confirm that those actually *are* infected monkeys.
All Maria knows about Joel is what she has heard from Tommy. Tommy left Boston (and Joel) because of the constant violence. Before getting to Boston, Joel and Tommy fell in with a group that did the same kind of things the raiders Joel and Ellie have dealt with do. So Maria's opinion of Joel is initially not great, and she is very guarded.
Yeah, but Ellie was right in asking if Maria was worried about Tommy too. Like, the only reason Tommy's not exactly like Joel at the point where we meet him again is probably because Joel protected him as best he could, kept him from having to do even more terrible things than he did. Doesn't help that Tess died more or less because they were going to look for Tommy, who couldn't be bothered to at least say, Hey, I'm alive but I can't tell you where I am. When he said his life didn't have to stop just because Joel's did, he skips over the part where he's living his best life, and his brother lost someone he cared about trying to find him.
I drove past the 4th street flyover at night when it was all decked out in post apocalyptic mode. I forgot they were filming here and thought the end was truly nigh!
The reason Joel lied to Tommy in the bar is because he didnt trust him anymore. Tommy stopped contact with him and chose Maria and the settlement over him, and this realization cause him to close himself off towards his brother.
You have to remember that Cordyceps and all the other kinds of horrorfungus that exist are specifically tailored to one species. One kind of ant, one kind of cricket, one kind of mammal. So no infected amnimuls.
They monkeys were carriers in the game. How they found out to go to SLC was because one of them was infected and bit a guy who left a voice recording telling them that is where they were headed before killing himself before he turned.
@@kimarhironso437 Really? Heh.. That kind of breaks one of the things that makes this so good. Even if a strain of horrorfungus evolved to infect monkeys, a monkey strain biting a human shouldn't do didly.
I think it is more implied that the monkeys themselves weren't affected by the fungus, but could carry it in their saliva and infect you with a bite. If they could all turn, they would've and would've flat out attacked Joel and Ellie on sight and the firefly occupation of the college was pretty old. They had all tried to rally there, rallied at the college, then decided to go to SLC all before Joel and Ellie got there. Infected humans turn within a day, so it wasn't messing with the monkeys like it was humans. That is why I think they were carriers who had been infected by the human strain for testing. The game also had the infection carried in the saliva. Not whatever mouth BS they had in the show. Of course in the game it is somewhat implied that the Fireflies were playing it by the ear, and were just winging it. Dude might have killed himself THINKING it was going to happen and if he would've just waited, might never have.
Maria is apprehensive about Joel. I think Maria knows that Tommy is a "follower " (which Joel also said of him) so much so that Tommy has previously followed Joel in murdering innocent people to rob them. And think about how: someone pretended to be injured and asking for help...so the innocent people he (and Tess and Tommy) killed are the sort of people who would stop to help an injured stranger in the apocalypse. They were not only innocent victims, they were likely *_kind and innocent_* victims. Maria was an ADA who used to put murderers in jail. Tommy at least feels remorse and still has nightmares, but Joel doesn't seem to be bothered by what they did (he still justifies it, saying it had to be down). If you are Maria, Joel *is* the "wrong sort of person" to find out about Jackson, because he has killed for less than what they have. He could betray them all...or he could just lead Tommy away and into that life again. FEDRA might even pay Joel a bounty to learn the location of an outpost of free people living as communists with extensive resources and power...and Joel could easily justify betraying them if it helps him survive. That is who he is.
Ridiculous. Joel isn’t any hero or anything close to it but he wouldn’t turn in his own brother to FEDRA. Crazy talk. Also, Joel didn’t tell Ellie that Tommy was a follower, he said Tommy was a joiner. Joining the military, joining the Fireflies, always wanting to save the world. Then Joel says HE followed Tommy to Boston. Watch Episode 4 again, you’ll see. So someone isn’t being upfront and I’m willing to bet it was Tommy talking to Maria about that time frame because there’s no reason for Joel to lie to Ellie about Tommy or how he got to Boston. Even when Ellie asks him if he killed innocent people he doesn’t answer, which is basically saying yes (very much like the game). But Tommy definitely had reasons to lie to Maria. Then again, maybe neither of them lied and it’s just how each one of them interpreted the events of going to Boston. But again, Joel turning in this entire commune is laughable. Joel can’t stand FEDRA, doesn’t care for the Fireflies. But he loves his brother Tommy, so much so that he traveled across most of the country to ‘save him’. They have their differences, just as any family does, and obviously Tommy knew why Joel reacted the way he did to Tommy going to be a father. As for Maria and the counsel, they just want to protect their town. Tommy is certainly not the only one not being able to radio a loved one. Maria has heard of Joel’s past and doesn’t trust him but only knows Joel from what she has been told, and Maria’s talk with Ellie is just her parental instinct coming out, trying to protect Ellie. Like Joel, she misses her child too, they just cope way differently, and if Maria knew how Joel protects and now loves Ellie as a daughter she would still be weary about his past but she would respect him. Further, if she was with Tommy when Joel was talking with him about how afraid he was now not being able to protect Ellie properly I think she would downright change her entire attitude towards him.
Take this with a whole ton of salt because I've had a few drinks, but I really don't like putting Arianna and Maple together. If either of them have someone to talk to, and question things with, they just ask questions WHILE CHARACTERS ARE PERFORMING THE DIALOGUE, and then both of them don't know what's going on because they weren't listening or paying attention. They both just loudly ask questions that WILL BE ANSWERED IF THEY JUST STOP TALKING AND WATCH THE SHOW. I like Arianna and Maple separately, but when they're together they just forget how narratives work.
"WHY AM I ABOUT TO CRY?!" Because you're capable of emotions. You're a prominent figure on a reaction channel. If you weren't about to cry, you wouldn't be good for business.
I liked this show for the most part; I really did. But the casting took away A LOT of interest for me. I'd have enjoyed it SO MUCH more if the casting had just been better. I actually found myself skipping roughly 90% of all Ellie's scenes. I don't think Bella Ramsey is right for this role in any way and there are most certainly better actress choices.

Pedro Pascal deserves an award for this show. That monologue specifically is more than enough to earn it
Marilyn from 'Nothern Exposure' there in the cabin. Her delivery is always hysterical.
And her hubby, Graham Greene from "Dances with Wolves."
