Switching from blender to houdini has been game changing. I really think everyone should check it out its a whole other world of capabilities vs the other 3d software’s
I have Zbrush, Maya, 3dCoat, 3ds Max, Blender, Fusion360. Will not be keeping Maya or 3ds Max or Fusion360 , for an Indie dev with perp liscenses of Zbrush and Coat, Blender with HarOps/Box cutter is all I need.
If you have a studio (or studios) in mind, you don’t need to guess and hope you are learning the right tools, look at their job boards and see what skills they are asking for (most likely Maya, but usually a mix). Then tailor your learning accordingly to fit.
Hey Abraham, I have a question. If I learn Substance painter + Designer is there any need for learning Mari? My main focus is to work on Games & Animation & as far as I know Mari is directed more towards High poly CG for VFX.
Yes perfect point. the question is, do you want to work in big corporate studio at first place :).Also maybe it's worth to make a research what companies are you interested in, or locations, zones, narrow them to actual possibility of employment and check what they need. After yesterday i took a look at companies in my proximity location, if i would search for work most logicall picks at first. Game companies, and gues what - Cinema 4d seems king! and what they usually looking for, :) why idk. Ofcourse Zbrush. Maybe its that merger Maxon Zbrush ?? balancing costs ?? i was amazed actually.
@Zombies Eat Jerky yes im suprised too by C4D and i think that this is the fact of Maxon Zbrush merger, postcov reductions ect. when you have 20-30 computers now having plan C4D-Zbrush may be worth thousands of dolars worthy transition a year, also i tough about this when they did this merger and i tought then it would ripple effect and here we are. Also it shows when they want and money is in play they can switch pipline like that :) So i belive Zbrush now when its not 1 time 800$ but you can buy it every year again and again will have impact also on smaller studios.
hi thanks for the uploads i have one question are there any way in to see composition guideline in maya like rule of third, golden ration etc .blender and c4d has it and they are preaty easy to find but in maya i am not able to figure that out
As always super helpful info!! Now that my student licence from maya is over I have this same questions in my mind, so thank you for giving to us this awesome videos.
Hey man, I get your points and largely I agree - just to clarify. 4k pesos its close to $200 US dollars not $300. I think its pretty cool that Autodesk actually is considering location and providing different prices for different countries when it comes for Maya Indie. In US its 290 I suppose. In Mexico its 90 bucks less. Credit where credit's due. On other note - so cool to hear that not only you are playing D&D but using one of my favorite figurine makers :) Very cool. I was sort of saddened to see that RPG, miniatures and card collectibles are not nearly as popular in Mexico when I moved here from Europe but now, specially in bigger cities I see interest is quite big. Too bad I am too busy now to enjoy it myself but hey thats life for you. I still have really old miniatures from Games Workshop for Warhammer, from the time they were made in metal not plastic. Feels so much better... Eh, good old times :)
Hello Abraham, thank you for this video. Maybe you could do one on the different jobs in a 3D studio for movies and video games as well as the production pipeline. I think this might be of interest to some students. there are professions that are very interesting and that we know very little about, such as Layout, for example. You could also invite well-known artists to talk about their work and their experiences.
When you can get yourself his courses. Massively helpful in understanding all aspects of this software, totally worth the money. And you will notice these are not that difficult anymore :)
If that was true we wouldnt need any updates to the software as well since you know - you only need skill so why to update anything anymore ;) Software obsolutely matters but sometimes you just need to think about what you really need. To kill a fly you dont have to use a cannon.

Dude blender is a piece of the garbage.

Thanks for the idea!
Also Unreal Engine is getting more traction and more studios are looking for these skills too. (Think real time rendering and virtual production)
