      Its worse than that because bull sharks also swim in salt or fresh water so they can be found in rivers across the continent, salty or bull take your pick.

    When you consider how far up the Ord River Ivanhoe Crossing actually is, it is a real surprise to see a salt water shark in that area.

      There are alligators in Florida and American Salt water crocodiles.
      They’re not the same as the salt water crocodiles in Australia. Australian crocs a bigger, far more plentiful, and very aggressive.

    That is one huge crocodile. They are vicious and territorial, that’s probably why there is only one at that location. Very scary to even imagine being in a boat near that crocodile.

      Actually the lower Ord River, down stream of Carlton Hill station has some real big ones, estimated in excess of 18ft/6 metres. We measured by comparing the to our aircraft shadow when flying over them below 250ft altitude, back in 1981.

    I love it when I see top predators that normally don’t encounter each other come across each other. The respect one has for the other is pretty fascinating. Everyone is saying the shark got scared but the croc did not try anything nor try & inspect a possible prey. Respect!

      I was a zookeeper who worked with alligators in America. Salties are just special man. Even people who are used to other giant reptiles are just put in awe around them.
      I got to feed one when I visited a zoo in Florida. It was 17 feet if I remember right. I fed it from the other side of a fence lol. Just tossed thawed out rabbits at it.

    I used to live 2 kms from ivanhoe crossing.The amount of times we.crossed that in the middle of the night (walking i might add)Was mental.Croc eyes everywhere.I often wonder if the fact there was 6 of us,did it confuse them.

      But think of all the excitement your missing out on just going for your daily swim.
      I used to live in Cottesloe, Western Australia, and I swam and trained as a lifesaver there everyday for 10 years. I left and went back to Sydney only to hear that some early morning swimmer got his whole leg ripped off by a Great White just as he was exiting the water. Poor guy bled out and died on the spot. It's all about luck. Pure and simple.

    Grew up on the west coast of Florida close to Horseshoe Beach. Yes it was a horseshoe breeding ground but it was also grassy. Beautiful!!!

    Average adult bull shark runs a bit over 2m. I reckon that puts that croc at about 5.5-6m.
    (of course if the shark was a juvenile, that throws off the scale).

    Figuring the average size of a bull shark is about 7-8 ft and around 300lbs, that croc is about 20ft and probably 1600lbs

    I love how the croc swims very graceful glide in the water and to think when I goes just under the water it doesn’t disturb the water yet it can hide in a few inches of water right near you and you wouldn’t know till it strikes
    Perfect apex ambush predator
    And they are bloody fast on land to In short bursts even swimming the can match a speed boat at low speed
    Perfect

      Crocodiles aren't that fast on land though yes they aren't that slow either and are capable of sudden, short bursts of speed. They are faster in water, their natural element yet they are actually also not very powerful or strong, graceful swimmers. But they definitely dwell in water which is their natural habitat, in all the freshwater systems around where they are native to in the world. Rivers, swamps, so on. They rely more on camouflage and ambush aka the element of surprise, to take down prey and competition alike. And yes also their size and strength, combined with their powerful bite force, thick hide and aggression.

    The bull shark is no where near fully grown tho. We got huuuge ones here in Durban. The croc also has some growing in him I reckon

      I would have said maybe four to six feet, for a juvenile shark. But with nothing else to give it scale? Hard to tell.

      I did not want to distract from the scene, but... size comparison IS important. I once caught a very angry teeth gnashing body thrashing wild shark... smaller than the whiting I'd been targeting, ie: about 11 inches. If that helps (news flash, a big croc is larger than a small shark, Duh, who would've thought) 🙃

    The croc is big but that looks like a juvenile bull shark too which make the croc appear even bigger.

    The crocodile did not attack the shark is surprising. If it was a great white or bull shark the same size of the croc, it would have been worth a battle to watch.

      Bull sharks cannot reach the size of crocodiles. A tiger can reach the length, not the weight. Great Whites are bigger.

      what do you mean sadly? It's gonna be a slaughterfest. That croc right there is at least 5 meters. A bull shark full grown maybe 2-3. Its not even a close fight

      @@damn6448 bull sharks can get to as big as 12 feet in length and weigh as much as 700 lbs(females). Just because the croc is bigger doesn’t mean it’s an automatic win. If the shark gets the first bite it could be bad for the Croc. They have enough bite force to damage a crocs hide.
      Of course if the croc gets the first good bite it’s most likely a sushi lunch.

      @@snakebitten6967 I know. Bull sharks are big and very dangerous. Not saying the Crocs gonna be fine. But a Croc can live without a leg. Something a shark can’t do. It needs it fins and tail to swim. A big salty is just too much for a bull shark. Saltwater crocodiles have much tougher skin and are big as hell.
      I would guess a big great white might have a better the chance but again. Sharks drown without their fins. If the crocs smaller, I could see a big bull shark taking it down but not with a 20 footer.
