    Summer-love your video, positivity, and pros and cons. I wish there were more affordable apartments/starter homes. I could never afford to purchase a home here now if I was in my late 20s/early 30s.

    Funny you mention Huntington Beach....that is where I am from. We are looking at retiring near Boise...but not for 10 more years!

      Thanks for watching and keep watching for more content to come..hopefully for many years:) Never too early to start researching and dreaming! My daughter lives in Costa Mesa now (she was in HB).. we just went to an open house in her neighborhood...it was beautiful, about 1200 sf, and it was listed for $2million!!! 😬 The same house here with the high level of design features that it had would be about $550k for that size. Without the remodel, it would be about $400k here for that size.

    Big con, the medical services. Just recently a large medical provider announced its closing. They serve 80 thousand residents and now those people will need somewhere to go.

      Which medical provider are you referring to? I haven't heard of this. We LOVE the medical services here. Compared to what my parents deal with in CA, it's heaven. The care here is top notch. It does, however, take a long time to get into a new doctor when you first move here. But that is true of anywhere in the US right now with everything being understaffed and overworked.

      I heard that hospitals around the country are going bankrupt due to health care demand from people coming across the southern border. I don't know if that's true, but I wouldn't be surprised. 😲

      @@SummerAstonRealEstate Saltzer health is closing. KTVB, Boise Dev and many others have reported it, huge blow to the medical service here.

      Agreed. I am one of those 80,000 people. The way they closed that Medical Center was pretty awful. No notice either to patients OR to the doctors and employees of that system. I am currently trying to figure out what I’m gonna do. It’s a problem

    It sounds like a lot of the cons mentioned are due to "growing pains". To a lot of people, the TV still is a big improvement over where they live now. If you've ever been in L.A. and Bay Area traffic like I have, it makes Idaho's traffic look light. When I was in the TV in June of last year, that was my experience with traffic. I'd laugh when people talked about traffic there. Recently I saw a comment from somebody who claimed to be from the TV; he or she talked about how he or she knew a lot of transplants who are miserable there and one packed up and moved away in a year. He or she talked about the cons you mentioned and added that you can't find a doctor or dentist in the TV and if you do find one, you can't be seen for 6 months. Is health and dental care really that bad there? The burning question I really have for you: is country music the most popular music for Idahoans?

    • @SummerAstonRealEstate
      @SummerAstonRealEstate  7 місяців тому +1

      Yes, there are alot of growing pains here. I drive in LA traffic and N.Cal as well, and let me tell ya, I stop complaining about Eagle road traffic real quick when we are sitting on the 405. Regarding people moving out after a year - this obviously is not true or we'd have alot more homes on the market. I have had one client move back to CA out of over 100 in the last 3 years, and that was because of a family change and her needing to live by a daughter, not because of Boise itself. If people are miserable here, it's because they had incorrect expectations that somehow, the rest of the country's issues would not effect Boise. But Boise does not have a bubble around it as is not the Truman Show. I can't tell you how many people I"ve talked to who are looking for perfection in life in a town that just doesn't exist anywhere. As far as the medical care, we LOVE it. Soooo much better than what my parents go through in CA. But it is true, you need to prepare and get on wait lists to see doctors (not dentists, there are alot of dentists here). However, my parents just moved counties in CA and had to get some new doctors and had a very difficult time finding one accepting new patients as well. I just think that is the nature of our health care system in the country now - understaffed and overworked. The doctors themselves and hospital services are top notch. And for music - no everyone listens to whatever they like. Maybe in smaller towns of Idaho, country prevails, but the Boise metro area is like anywhere else when it comes to music. Something for everyone.

      Thank you for this helpful information, Summer. 👍👍👍 I agree about health care in general; we're seeing stress in the health care system in Calif. that I've never seen before, and I live in a small city. We could give an earful to you on this subject, but you could go deaf listening to us. 😊 We're planning to move to a PPO from an HMO if and when we move to the TV. We're hoping that a PPO will have some advantage with better reimbursement rates for doctors. As far as music goes, it's good to hear that there is a nice variety of interest in music in the TV. I enjoy just about anything, and it sounds like there will be a variety of shows to check out while there. Larkin Poe, one of my favorite current touring bands has stopped in Boise to perform concerts in the past. I was glad to hear that. As a big fan of American Roots music, I'm sure that I'll be at home in the TV. By the way, please take care when you go to Mexico. With all the craziness in the world, you never know what can happen. Are you sure that you don't want to enjoy the islands in Hawaii? I can picture you and your family having a great time there. @@SummerAstonRealEstate

      @@audiophileman7047 Thanks for your concern! We do enjoy Hawaii - my daughter lived there for a few years so we have been many times - trying something new this year - but staying at a resort, which is new for us too, so we should be safe :). And as far as medical goes here, the great thing is that you aren't stuck in a group like Sutter or Kaiser. The different systems pretty much accept all insurances. The only thing to be mindful of is that if you have a specialist who is with St. Lukes then you'd want to go to St Lukes Hospital if you wanted your specialist to see you there. But we usually try to choose doctors that are in practice by themselves and not in a St. Lukes or St. Al's group, only because we like the smaller environment of those offices, but they are getting harder to find as malpractice insurance goes up and doctors need groups to cover the costs. But the independent doctors can go to either hospital system. Also, we have a TON of urgent care centers around here that accept all major insurances, so our ER rooms are not nearly as full as many in CA. The ER near my mom in northern CA had probably 80 people waiting in there last time we went and she had to wait for over 12 hours to get a room. So far, that is NOT happening here in Boise. Hard to get into a new doctor, yes, but great care at the ERs and usually not horribly long waits.

      Thank you so much for the further info on health care in the TV. As time goes on, I believe that good doctors fleeing unhospitable states will practice in the TV and increase the pool of doctors. Please be extremely careful on that trip down south. I've heard many unpleasant and even scary stories about that place. A colleague of mine had a major problem down there with his wife. He's a hunter and when his wife traveled there, he accidentally left a cartridge in one of their suit cases she used. His wife went down there with girlfriends, and she was detained and jailed when they found the cartridge. My colleague had to hire a lawyer and go down there to get her out. It involved contacting the U.S. Consulate to help free her. It was a very unpleasant experience to say the least. As I said, please be very careful if you go. If it was me and my family, I wouldn't go. @@SummerAstonRealEstate

      Many. The fact is, Californians, as well as people from other states, have been moving to Boise for a better way of life for decades. We moved here over 20 years ago, and bought our first house on the south side of town, and there were very few native Idahoans that lived on our street even back then. And then we moved to the North side of the valley about 12 years ago, and same thing, very few native Idahoans on our street, but in both places, also, a big mix of people from WA, AZ, AK, OR, MT... I actually have loved that about living here... it's people coming from all over to seek a better way of life and are united in that.

      Thank you for watching and commenting. That is unfortunate you feel that way. We have lived here over 20 years and things are changing, but having grown up in both Southern and Northern CA, and still spend time with family there, I can say we are so grateful to live here and have an absolutely incredible quality of life. It's all about perspective and one's past experiences.

    • @SummerAstonRealEstate
      @SummerAstonRealEstate  7 місяців тому

      Yes that is a big change! I think it's due to the cost of houses, they are harder to afford, so now they are building so many huge apartment complexes, which is a newer thing for our area for sure.
