Peter Dutton can expect a 'fight' over nuclear energy: Peta Credlin

  • Sky News host Peta Credlin says if Opposition Leader Peter Dutton wanted a fight over nuclear energy, it "looks like he's going to get it".
"And that's no bad thing for an Opposition," she said.
"You certainly can't beat an incumbent by just agreeing with them - as the Victorian Liberal Party needs to learn, and fast.
"Yesterday, the Prime Minister said that nuclear energy was fine for others but not for Australia."
She said today, Treasurer Jim Chalmers "really unleashed on the Opposition".
"I can't speak for the Opposition Leader, but I reckon you can drive a truck through the government's position.

Talk about fantasy, the Labor & Greens mistaken belief that "renewables" are the best thing for Australia freightens me beyond belief. I have seen the size of solar "farms" which reduce the amount of arable land available for food production concerns me because I believe tjat the idea is driven by city based people who have no concept of the importance of rural production to the food they consume. For some reason, they think that imported foodstuffs (which are not produced in the sustainable way Australian food is produced) can replace the healthy food to which Australians have become accustomed.
On top of that, our balance of trade will (not might) be adversely affected!

    • @MT-lv3ls

Tell that to the private power providers who are the ones building it. Every house could have roof top solar to drastically cut power from the grid during the day and rely on barely any draw from fixed sites during the night. But we all know what happens if you dare to use less power, the costs just go up to compensate the loss.
Just like all those power saving items you have, they ended up doing nothing in the end.

When is most power used? Generally in the evening from 6.00pm up 'till about 10.00PM and guess what... no solar panels are working then and the battery capacity, if fitted to store the power, lasts for maybe two (2) hours if lucky!!

Regulations need to be streamlined so that projects don't move at a snail's pace or go back over the same ground time and time again. It should never take 10 years for any project to be started because of red and green tape. If anyone tries last minute, last ditch attempts to halt projects, they and their lawyers need to be charged under security statutes and jailed. Once the decision has been made, it should be allowed to proceed. When James Lovelock got out there and said that for the foreseeable future Nuclear should be considered for virtual emissions free power then that must have ruffled a few feathers. But it was like a revelation to me, as I had come to the same conclusion at that time. That was 20 years ago and the current ban is just one step away from burying your head in the sand. IMO most Ozzies would prefer not to have Nuclear, but I think we are slowly coming round to the notion that it’s in our national interest and more modern technology makes it much safer. Perhaps there are some benefits after all of being a Nuclear outlier.

Do yourself a favour, look at the cost of building the Hinkley C Reactor in Bristol and double it. Then look at the population of France and size. 60 something million. Then figure out how a puny 25 million is going to fund at least 7 reactors at around 40 - 50 billion dollars if we are lucky, then add maintenance, waste management, cost of processed uranium. That's just the start, these reactors only last 50 years and cost billions to decommission, look at the Anglesea reactor owned by Hitachi. Even in the UK French built reactors (EDF) are experiencing major cost blowouts at £22 biilion same in USA. Then do the research on Nu Scale and SMR'S and see for yourself. Dutton and Sky have you fooled.

As more and more coal fired power stations close down the more power prices will drop, The last two years has seen a drop in power prices. Hydro is good power, half of Victoria runs on snowy power with another hydro to come. Coal does not do as much as people think.
The coal fired power stations that have already shut down have not been missed. The whole eastern States +SA +tas are all connected to the same grid. and controlled by AEMO. Pumped hydro has been there since the snowy hydro first started so no change. Ill informed persons think they know all when in fact it's all misinformation. France is not Australia More B/S
