- In this video I review and talk about the new book by Dana Fox called Watercolor with Me in the Ocean. This book is like a cross between a how to book and a coloring book. The book features colored paintings and directions on one side and a sketch ready to be painted on the other. This allows you to follow her directions and create your own paintings right in the book or if you prefer you can recreate the sketches on your own paper. The directions are simple and easy to follow, the drawings are whimsical and fun and the lessons teach you a lot about watercolor as you go along.

I used Daniel Smith watercolor paints:

these have to be purchased one color at a time in either 15ml or 5ml. The colors I used are:
Raw umber, burnt umber, lunar black, Indanthrone blue (or Indigo), french ultramarine, cerulean blue, sap green, new gamboge, burnt sienna, indian red, permanent alizarin crimson, quin rose and dioxazine purple. These are of course much more expensive but each tube lasts a very very long time.

Amazing video and cool book
I pre-ordered this book months ago and I can’t wait to get it. I did Watercolor With Me in the Forest and I loved it. I painted in the book but this time I think I’m going to trace onto arches 140 lb. so I can do the paintings more than once.

Thank you for being thorough and recommending that she print a color chart so we know what paints to buy. Which do you prefer? tubes or palette. Some colors are missing in the set and very expensive individually. Can you use different brands in one painting if one set doesn't have all the colors?
Very thorough review. I actually do remember you making that suggestion about the complete color list at the beginning of the book, it was a good one. Sigh, so now this book has made it’s way to my cart.
You should totally buy it! I have a second copy in my chart so that I can work inside the book for one cope and keep the sketches for later use!

I have both of these books and really like both of them. My only complaint in this one is I wish some of the images were bigger on the page. Otherwise I really enjoy them and they are my go-to when I have creators' block. 😊
