Pirates peaked with Dead Man's Chest, but At World's End was, in the very definition of the word: *Epic.* an Epic movie to wrap-up an incredible trilogy (we don't talk about "the rest").
I always love your Pirates of the Caribbean videos. They made me realize just why the younger me loved the movies so much and helped the now me appreciate just how incredible they are.
At World's End was truly underappreciated when it came out. I just rewatched it recently and my first thought was "damn, they don't make'em like they used to anymore"
For a franchise that based on amusement park and released by Disney, the memorability of the film is insane... Indicating how good the first 3 films are
Been getting awkward looks for years when I told people that the Pirates of the Caribbean movies (the main trilogy) are in my opinion some of the best movies of all time. I glad to see that more and more people are praising these movies, it was long overdue!
Calling these movies some of the best of all time has to be the most hyperbolic praise I've ever seen for a movie like this. I can only conclude that you need to watch more movies.
@@Guitar994 Watch more movies. There's a lot of much, much better and more sophisticated film making out there than Pirates of the Caribbean. Love it all you want, they're a part of your childhood and that's fine, but they're not even remotely close to being in any kind of conversation about best movies of all time.
@@MarkHogan994 @MarkHogan994 I agree there are a lot of great mocies out there that I love (the sixth sense, the Shawshank redemption, green mile...) But for me it's the pot series that i like to come back to because of it's atmosphere emphasized by powerful score. I'm not an expert to tell whether a movie is good or not and maybe you're right the series is not to be some of the best, I only know when the story is interesting and worthy of attention. The modern interpretations of the ancient dark sea legends that i love told in a story of adventures and freedom. Or at least thats how I see the movies. With interesting plot and characters and a doze of humor. And I'm still curious about the movies you consider some of the best (not being sarcastic or rude) maybe i haven't seen them yet and would like to change that since i often strugle to find a movie worth watching
What I like so much about this movie is that it shows how far the characters have come. So many movies out there have great character progression, only for the sequel to reset that progression for some bullshit reason and redo the journey from the first one again. Here, the characters who used to be nobodies who didn't know how the world worked are now absolute professionals and constantly stab each other in the back, just like they learned it from the characters which were already experienced in the first movie.
Not to mention peoples motivations change. Liz first wants to rescue jack then she wants to avenge her father/kill Beckett. Jack wants to be free of Jones then he wants/considers to become the captain of the Dutch man. They are all dynamic and resourcefull - not quirky one-note jokesters.
Pirates of the Caribbean is one of the best trilogies ever made, for me it's in the same echelon as Back to the Future or The Lord of the Rings. It's just that good.
I still think of the closing scene of Will and Elizabeth on the beach often. It's the most romantic scene in cinema for me. And that soundtrack! "One Day" lives in my head rent free.
The perfect trilogy. It really is. I've loved this trilogy ever since I saw the first 10 minutes of the first movie. It's absolutely a massive credit to the writers that they weaved such an amazing tale and stories across 3 feature films from inspiration taken from a ride at an amusement park. Certainly they pulled from other elements as well, there's fingerprints from many cultures and myths all throughout, but it started because of a goddamn ride. But when they created this amazing world filled with believable characters, despite the supernatural elements, they also created a massive pitfall they would need to avoid. It's incredibly easy to lose sight of what made the first 3 films so epic and all time greats...particularly when it's the studio itself demanding a new film be rushed out as fast as possible without waiting for the passionate writers to pen a new tale. Then you end up with a decrease in quality, that said I still love the 4th movie. The 5th has some good parts, but overall it's just bad. They lost sight of what made the franchise so loved and took shortcuts and made extremely bad decisions...and those that made those decisions actually had no input in the first 3, which is why they were great, because they were focused on the vision of the writers who were invested in telling good and fun stories...instead of focused on shelling the fields of the cinema battleground with rushed munitions designed to be subpar and ineffective overall but served the purpose of buying a little time, or in this case money AND time, they knew the films would do well because of the history...and they needed to release them quickly (time) in order to accrue finances for their own personal hobbyhorse movies filled with bad writing and preachy nonsense. They intentionally ruined the franchises just to make a quick buck.
As a kid this was my favourite part of the trilogy. Back than I looked very differently at movies, because my young brain couldn't process whole movies, only individual scenes and the third movie is just packed with legendary scenes. I rewatch the trilogy every year and although I see it's flaws now I still enjoy them and discover new values in them.
I didn't watch those pirates movies in the theater. I lost one piece of life I will never be able to recover. Still, I embrace the first time I watch Dead Man's Chest and World End in solitude at home, evening, lights off, totally immersed, moved, amazed.
The thing that I love about the first three series is how the scheming and piracy be going on, fourth has that too, the trilogy is just gold. First movie is the best among them, followed by the second to the third, and I still can't believe how good the octopus CGIs and the movies overall still holds up today.
These pirates movies are a perfect example of people being ahead of the curve, and people we're too stupid to realise it, until too late. Once again great video my movie connoisseur pal! No?
Fantastic breakdown for a fantastic movie! The pirates trilogy is truly the last example of an epic blockbuster trilogy. While having a few flaws in 2 and 3, they’re so enjoyable and has endless rewatch value!
A.W.E. has always been my favorite of the trilogy. I love the dark f'd up humor and tone, the morbid gross design of the world and characters and the epic mythology. . I still can't believe that Disney allowed Gore to make this film.
I kind of agree. The only thing I would’ve liked to have been done different is not have Davy be a puppet. It damn near wiped away everything that was built up for him in Dead Man’s Chest.
@@ComedyBros5 For me, Davey being controlled by the embodiment of a Corporation, is much more terrifying than Davey being a slave to his passions, because he will only fuck with you, if you die on his turf or intentionally seek him out. . While being the puppet of Beckett, you don't know who is safe and who isn't, one can be killed by Davey, because Beckett just wanted to control the bananas growing in your yard. . Can we just give my man, Commodore Norrington a moment please. Like he was the last person I except to return, and when he died, I felt like they did him dirty. Bro lost his job, his heart, and his respect because of a pirate.

The original PotC trilogy is one of the most underrated narratives in history and I will die on this hill. ALL the characters are FANTASTIC. (Although, Barbossa supremacy).
TBF, Filmento pointed out that the character dynamics are complex as hell, compared to a lot of Marvel movies where it's just Good Guy Team vs Bad Guy Team.
I already enjoyed Pirates of the Caribbean when I was a kid but watching it as an adult, my appreciation for it has only gotten greater once I was able to see the complex relationships this franchise was able to build, the story was more in depth then i realized but especially with modern blockbusters haven't really been able to achieve that same kind of feeling
All the characters are full of contradiction, and those can be used as leverage against them. Beckett is a business man and yet is extremely vindictive. He coldly executes hundreds but will pursue Jack to the ends of the earth, and then cut a deal with him, only to sell him into eternal slavery, and at the end of his world, he accepts it and his death as fair play from a better opponent. That’s how instead of an imperialist straw man, you make a character.
The reason why Beckett didn’t fire the cannons is because he uses dialogue to control to get what he wants out of people. If he used weapons, it would be out of his character. He had nothing to bargain with so he excepted his fate. 🙂
I remember watching this film in the theater when it came out, and I agree with everything you said. It’s not perfect but it’s way better than most of the shit coming out nowadays
"World's still the same.. There's just.. Less in it"... Gets me every time! Whoever wrote that line deserves every writing contract he/she ever got and will get!! Also this video was spot on!! So many turns of phrases which reflect how the power dynamics shift around as well... The number of times I have gone "Oh hohohohooo" watching this trilogy is far too many lol

one thing that annoyed me (even when i was a kid) was how the final battle is just the pearl vs the dutchman and then destroying beckett toghether , the other pirates just sit around and do nothing, whouldn't it be cooler if it was a huge naval battle between both factions ending with the british fleet being destroyed at the end. (at the end you see the other pirates celebrating, first time seeing this scene my reaction was just "why are you celebrating you guys did jack shit)

Every character we meet is distinct and memorable in Potc. From the main cast to thw secondary pirates to the villains. In the MCU, I can't say the same. People only ever go on about the main 3 and a lot of the side characters get forgotten about. Guess the world was just too big, but potc made their world small enough to care about characters, but big enough to tell epic stories.
Going with the theme of leverage, I think PotC has way more in common with mystery/detective or those stories where there's no hard power dynamics so most of their "power" comes from their wit and circumstances. It's nothing like the power fantasy we expect from superhero or action epic fantasy movies, cause in those genres, it is somewhat distasteful to use underhanded means to overcome earned power. Although, of course, pure dumb action is... dumb, and having some wit and maneuvering would improve the flavour of the story, it is by no means the focus. PotC, while having some mythical aspects like Davy Jones and undead pirates, and lumped together with superhero movies, is by no means a superhero movie. Most of the characters there are all regular humans, with nothing super about them, so the way they outplay each other would just be different. TLDR: characters in PotC actually feel like they're thinking instead of being musclebrains where their brightest ideas usually come from the most obvious places, or made up things that will solve the problem.
I’ve always enjoyed the relationship dynamics in this movie. It’s not an our side verses their side fight. It’s all about who knows who, who OWES who, and who is willingly to die for you.
Its still outstaning to me, that Norrington went from hated villain, to sympathetic character in just three movies. He really got under my skin the longer he was on the screen.
I remember not liking this movie as a kid and thinking the best way to describe this movie was "weird". Plus it felt way too long. As I got older though I can really appreciate this one, it really does put alot of modern movies to shame.
It‘s truly baffling that almost every Marvel movie - even the bad ones - have gotten better reviews than the Pirates sequels. Critics dumped Dead Man‘s Chest and World‘s End. It kinda makes them the most underrated movies of all time.
The thing is, in storytelling, characters should feel like a Survivor cast. Everyone is working for their own gains but should be able to take advantage of forming groups.
I think that when you elevate the stakes to the heights of At World's End or, say, Return Of The Jedi, it's important to give everyone a window to neutrality. Of course it's epic to have the villain want to destroy the universe or whatever, but it gives the character something better to fight for than just their survival. Becket wants to eradicate piracy, so there is always an option to abandon piracy, but it's not what either of these characters would ever agree with. On the contrary, while Infinity War is a good movie, its not really because of its characters. It doesn't help that they are literally superheroes, but the call to action seems kind of obvious. Like, duh, of course they will stand up to fight a genocidal maniac. In PotC however, characters like Will and Liz often question if what they are doing its worth the consequence.
My nostalgia still only extends to appreciating the first film, finding half of the second film good, and still finding the third bloated and all over the place. But I do appreciate they all had a craft to them that feels so foreign in today's landscape.

I'd have liked Calypso to play a better role, myself - or at least claim Jones at his death.
But yeah, otherwise, for the most part - an epic, film.@@thelastcrow5660
I always re-watch the PotC trilogy every year.
I feel it's still the best Disney blockbuster.
Purely epicness.
Back when I was young it was atleast every month, I didn't know why, I just knew it was EPIC, it was more, it was something truly special.
Favorite character???
@@stephenthedude4383Jack the monkey 🙉
The 5th one was also good
Although many things didn't match with the previous ones. But it was good.
4th one was boring for me
Davy Jones is not only a cgi powerhouse but also a character absolute unit
Pirates peaked with Dead Man's Chest, but At World's End was, in the very definition of the word: *Epic.* an Epic movie to wrap-up an incredible trilogy (we don't talk about "the rest").
No, it was unecessary fan baiting borefest.
@@Thesavagesouls How?
I liked the spanish 😊
At Stranger Tides is a great standalone adventure. DMTNT(5) is absolutely soulless and terrible, but idk why people don't like the 4th one.
True. At World’s End is an epic movie. I quite like it
I always love your Pirates of the Caribbean videos. They made me realize just why the younger me loved the movies so much and helped the now me appreciate just how incredible they are.
Future you, will smack some sense into you later.
and the games!
At World's End was truly underappreciated when it came out. I just rewatched it recently and my first thought was "damn, they don't make'em like they used to anymore"
For a franchise that based on amusement park and released by Disney, the memorability of the film is insane... Indicating how good the first 3 films are
The scene where they point their guns at each other and Jack electing Liz as the Pirate King is just pure perfection!
Davy Jones CGI is over a decade old, and still looks exceptionally better than anything in any recent MCU movie. An impressive feat.
Been getting awkward looks for years when I told people that the Pirates of the Caribbean movies (the main trilogy) are in my opinion some of the best movies of all time. I glad to see that more and more people are praising these movies, it was long overdue!
Makes you wonder what movies those people consider to be some of the best. I love the trilogy since I was a kid
@@Guitar994 do you mean the Sixth Sense? Or the Fifth Element? =D
Glad this trilogy is finally getting the love and respect it deserves. Somehow it's underrated.
0:25 That opening synopsis was amazing. I haven't laughed that hard in a good minute.
Filmento is a meme master
@@LuisSierra42 youre so right 🤣
The marriage scene is one of my favorites in all of cinema.
“Leverage, says you? I think I feel a change in the wind, says I.” -Joshamee Gibbs
The idea of leverage is so beautifully summed up in one sentence in the trilogy: "I've got a jar of dirt!"
I still think of the closing scene of Will and Elizabeth on the beach often. It's the most romantic scene in cinema for me. And that soundtrack! "One Day" lives in my head rent free.
The soundtrack of this is the one I can listen to all day long, even the unreleasead suites are awesome
"the darkest enemy the world has ever seen: The Government" 😂😂

The thing that I love about the first three series is how the scheming and piracy be going on, fourth has that too, the trilogy is just gold. First movie is the best among them, followed by the second to the third, and I still can't believe how good the octopus CGIs and the movies overall still holds up today.
This is a rare occasion of movie that is perfectly aware of what it is, and what it wants to accomplish. The same goes for the whole trilogy
These pirates movies are a perfect example of people being ahead of the curve, and people we're too stupid to realise it, until too late. Once again great video my movie connoisseur pal! No?

You just pointed out a great writing hack that will fix my writing: power dynamics are more about leverage than fire power or individual power.
Pirates ran so Marvel could drunkenly stumble into a hedge
Fantastic breakdown for a fantastic movie! The pirates trilogy is truly the last example of an epic blockbuster trilogy. While having a few flaws in 2 and 3, they’re so enjoyable and has endless rewatch value!
You know it's a great day when Filmento talks Pirates of the Caribbean
I don't understand how anyone didn't understand this. As a kid, I didn't understand the dynamics this granularly, but it was obvious enough.
ah yes jack and barbossa the most fire trope in history "hero and villain work together to fight a bigger evil"
I used to watch At World’s End almost every week back in time… even listening to OST from Zimmer was my daily routine. Gore Verbinski is a genius!

I love how from time to time we all get together again to simp over At World's End hoping for better days.
At World's End will always be my favourite movie af all time and my favourite PotC movie.
A.W.E. has always been my favorite of the trilogy. I love the dark f'd up humor and tone, the morbid gross design of the world and characters and the epic mythology.

I kind of agree. The only thing I would’ve liked to have been done different is not have Davy be a puppet. It damn near wiped away everything that was built up for him in Dead Man’s Chest.
@@ComedyBros5 For me, Davey being controlled by the embodiment of a Corporation, is much more terrifying than Davey being a slave to his passions, because he will only fuck with you, if you die on his turf or intentionally seek him out.
.
While being the puppet of Beckett, you don't know who is safe and who isn't, one can be killed by Davey, because Beckett just wanted to control the bananas growing in your yard.
.
But, by the end battle, Davey was no longer Beckett's puppet, and was acting with his own agency when he died.

Can we just give my man, Commodore Norrington a moment please. Like he was the last person I except to return, and when he died, I felt like they did him dirty. Bro lost his job, his heart, and his respect because of a pirate.
This movie is for real my favorite movie of all time! It’s my most rewatched movie. I memorize 90% of the lines. It’s my favorite film and Hans Zimmer score. Davy Jones is my favorite villain. I have Jack’s Sparrow tat and Will’s Horizon line tattooed on my forearm. I will forever love this movie!
At World's End is a masterpiece, best movie out of the original trilogy imo, glad to see people starting to give it the respect it deserved.
Anytime you post a pirates video, I'm in. Such a neglected franchise, but dead man's chest is an all time underrated flick.
Davy Jones actually Looks Like a Real thing. That's Insane af.
At Worlds End is basically POTC equivalent to Marvel’s Avengers Endgame.
That's an insult to the Pirates trilogy
When I watch your pirate review I keep going back to watch it again and again, thank for giving me a good time.
Pirates 3 really might be my favorite movie ever; I don't think there's another film I have so much fun watching
Easily one of the best trilogies of all time. Davey Jones is also one of the greatest villains of all time.
The original PotC trilogy is one of the most underrated narratives in history and I will die on this hill. ALL the characters are FANTASTIC. (Although, Barbossa supremacy).
I LOVE the first 3 Pirates of the Caribbean movies... Back then, CGI was scarily realistic and stories are just simple...
TBF, Filmento pointed out that the character dynamics are complex as hell, compared to a lot of Marvel movies where it's just Good Guy Team vs Bad Guy Team.
Loved these movies because of how dynamic the characters and their relationships were
I’m having my step son watch these movies and the best way I could explain these movies was “it’s marvel if they actually have a damn”
I love the pirates movies. Characters doing the things they would do, all over the place.
The reason why Beckett didn’t fire the cannons is because he uses dialogue to control to get what he wants out of people. If he used weapons, it would be out of his character. He had nothing to bargain with so he excepted his fate. 🙂
Watched all the three first movies just to be able to watch this video. Totally worth it.
Man, when you called Norrington a simp, I laughed so hard XD I mean, it's true but U don't have to do him dirty like that 🤣
This is my favorite pirate film of whole franchise. Maybe it's not best for some reason, but I like it most, it's simply playing on right tunes for me
I remember watching this film in the theater when it came out, and I agree with everything you said.
First 3 Pirates of the Caribbean movies are simly S Tier!
Best trilogy based on an amusement park ride ever
You are the best one there is on UA-cam to learn movie production and to learn why certain movies ended up such good or bad. I wish you could also explain certain Series.
What can I say. 100% agree with every sentence of the video. Good job! This part is pure cinematic masterpeace
one thing that annoyed me (even when i was a kid) was how the final battle is just the pearl vs the dutchman and then destroying beckett toghether , the other pirates just sit around and do nothing, whouldn't it be cooler if it was a huge naval battle between both factions ending with the british fleet being destroyed at the end. (at the end you see the other pirates celebrating, first time seeing this scene my reaction was just "why are you celebrating you guys did jack shit)
Thank you for explaining to me why this movie is my favorite finale of my favorite trilogy

Amazing franchise Pirate of the Caribbean was, it's a really enjoyable experience and I really like it
You know, I find kind of sad that cinema had to become that bad these days for people to realize how good the trilogy of Pirates actually was.
By the way, amazing video. These movies only flaw is the plot (and that is in the third only). Everything else, literally, is a masterpiece.
I saw this movie yesterday. It was beautiful.
THAT is how you properly write a trilogy.
Love your videos Filmento. Both you and ‘The Closer Look’ really helped me become a great writer and learn the strict rules of storytelling. Please keep uploading videos and don’t stop because you’re helping people more than you think. 🙏
You say he became sympathetic yet you also say he progressively got more and more under your skin. That's pretty contradictory. Which is it?
@@MarkHogan994 by symphatetic i meant likeable. Poor choice of word.
At Worlds End with its individualistic goals showcases why One Piece is so great
I remember not liking this movie as a kid and thinking the best way to describe this movie was "weird".
Your content never disappoints. Keep it up the good work and I can't wait for the next one
I love this movie and the interaction with the characters, that is one of my favorite things to watch an interaction that hasn’t been done to death
Hot take: At World's End is the most underrated movie ever made
Quite possibly
Filmento is one of the few big UA-camrs that actually gets At Worlds End.
Wow, is this really where we're at? We're nostalgic for pirates of the caribbean sequels??
My co-workers are nostalgic for the first Lego movie that will have been released ten years ago next year.
Filmento has always loved this trilogy, literally whenever he talks about something bad, he’ll use pirates as a good example of doing it well
My nostalgia still only extends to appreciating the first film, finding half of the second film good, and still finding the third bloated and all over the place. But I do appreciate they all had a craft to them that feels so foreign in today's landscape.
This guy really went the whole video without saying “the enemy of my enemy is my friend”
