I started Driving in 1996 on my own, 1995 with a parent. July 15, 1996 I filled my truck up first time in Ballwin Missouri for 88 cents. Unbelievable to think today. 5.0s and SS camaros, firebirds ruled the streets and muscle cars. "Ricers" were just getting started. And for awhile especially afterThe Fast and Furious in 2001, ricers began and dominated the old muscle car way, of spray and pray. But the last 5-6 years if you are still in the scene street/strip, you can see this technology, tunes, chips, computers, TURBOS being turned back towards the old V8 cars. Mustangs, Camaros, Chargers etc. IRS is almost common place, the rides are amazing. And the power and speed they are putting down/ plus handling is blowing a lot of 4 cylinders out of the water again. 10psi on a 4 banger, is still lagging on 10psi on a V8. And the increase is exponential with the bigger motors and PSI increase. Its neat to see the full circle that being ran, where will it end..,Who cares as long as we keep going faster!
i remember those days. i got my lisence in early 2000 and by end of summer had a low 13/high 12 sec car and i never lost a race with it (still have the car). if i wanted to hang with my freinds or even talk to them, i just went to their house. i didn't even get a computer until dec 01. it was alot better. there were more kids playing outside in the summer back then, now teens hardly leave the house. most teens don't even want cars cause they don't see the need. they just use computers or text..
All those VW's though. Love it. What I wouldn't give to be in my 20's back then. Seems like muscle and tuners weren't ego tripping back then about who had the better car.
I remember all that! I used to see MANY pre-'74 (That was the cut-off for smog then) Camaros (even first gen ones) Novas, Malibus, ETC for under $3,000. These were complete, running and driving cars that you could restore/hop-up while you drove them. I remember it was around 2002 when prices of old iron started sky-rocketing.

2018 now lol. I think all the old school carburetor v8 guys just gave up and retired to the car shows. Realized they don't stand a chance against turbo ls swap cars, hellcats, and all the turbo imports now that they are actually fast as the technology improved and stuff bacame more available.
It is nice to see shots of Kevin's burgers. Friday's at Kevin's until the shooting across the street when that kid died. Everything went downhill from then. It is funny to see The Road back in the day.

I'd have to say street racing modified cars are pretty much dead. Well here in Canada it is anyway it use to be extremely popular but in the last 15years insurance has seriously increased a stock 4 door Civic is over 310$ a month :/ Modifie it you will struggle to get insurance and if you do it's so high it's not worth it, and no one wants to street race a stock 100hp car.

Now? i don't know. i don't think there's much action around anymore (not in the last 6-7 years). i used to be able to hear them, now silence. no groups gathered anywhere. most of the real good cars are owned by older guys. they get on it once in awhile, but mostly just cruise around no real messing around.
So so sad. That's LA? No wonder. In Texas we had 8-second race cars on the street in 1997. Got married that year. Still married to the same lady. Civics killed street racing.
i still kick myself for not buying the white 71 383 auto Roadrunner for $800 in late 2000. but i had just bought my AMX a week earlier and didn't have the money. it was clean, ran good and had no rust (amazing around here). last i heard with what they go for now, i could sell it and all but buy a house with the money.
