And if you do, you end up with what happens at 11:21. That cable, which you had no idea what it's for should be connected BEFORE you connect the negative cable. You shorted it against the hold down bolt. (It's part of the auto start-stop system)
As was mine. A couple months ago, my 2020 2 liter Escape battery wouldn't keep a charge to just listen to the radio for over 5 minutes. Costco wanted $10 dollars LESS than my Ford dealer for the SAME battery and that covered installation and reset. $207. out the door. Auto parts store is the worst place to buy a battery. Had a 2015 Escape and THAT battery was a royal pain under the cowl. I did do the reset on that one.
Check to see if you need to code the new battery to the car. If it has a battery monitor system it’s essential to code it or you risk damaging the new battery by overcharging
Just imagine in a couple of years and a lot of engine heat cycles that air cleaner box will get brittle so when you yank on it to remove it it comes apart!
You're probably right. Luckily it wasn't as tight as some others I've had to remove but the tabs were cut almost in half to relieve pressure. That's probably where it will break
I suspect the other reason for dealer service as you found out is they add a temporary memory card to the OBD 2 that keeps settings like radio buttons, perhaps clock, power seat and other computer controlled settings static. Not that any other car part retailer could not do the same but have seen some have that capability and others don't. Not that resetting these is difficult but it is annoying
One part of the system is a battery life/charging monitor that the dealer resets to "new battery." Sure, your new battery works but the life might be reduced because the BMS regulates charging current (something useful for an AGM-style battery) based on age. Some models have "manual" ways to reset it, but a scan tool with a battery function could too. Yet another reason to not like modern cars, right? ;-)
I've seen the comments, get a professional to do it and pay the $90 extra. It was a nice video to see the obstacles in your way for replacing the battery, but you missed a couple things like what was in the comments.

I wear safety glasses when working around batteries. I had a motorcycle battery blow up on me once. Had to jump in the shower and quickly rinse my eyes.
That is a much easier battery change than on a 2017 Escape. My 2021 Escape Hybrid has the battery in the back under the spare tire, that one is really easy and the battery lasts longer due to not being subjected to under hood heat.
If you buy an American domestic manufactured car, what else can you expect but trouble? And as for the Ecoboost engine? It's not called the Ecoboom for nothing.
Or corvettes with the battery behind the seat? Engineers are amazing haha This one was sadly a blatant attempt for Ford to make money off of people's inability to turn a wrench.
Now I will tell you a battery that is impossible or over complex to change. 1990 Chrysler Sebring you must remove the driver's tire, the wheel well and several other parts just to get to the battery.
I think I would have done some surgery on the battery trap that would allow the battery to come out without taking out the air filter bottom box. I can see where this will piss off a LOT of people that bought this FORD product. No more auto company bailouts!
This isn't new. This started around the year 2000. Any time a part of the car needs to be removed to change the battery a parts store won't touch it because of liability.
@BakersDIYLifestyle You can't really blame the parts stores, and even auto manufacturers are just getting more efficient with packaging. What would be nice is if they moved to a more durable battery technology that would at least only require replacement every 10 years or so. I have to say, you're replacing a 4-5? year old AGM battery? Those are supposed to last 7+. People should avoid running their batteries down, get the most time out of them possible, and it makes this less of a big deal
@adamlesandrini312 Shoot battery technology is a joke too. Why make it last longer when you can keep forcing people to buy junk? There is nothing better about the package they offer either. Only ways to make more money on the back side of selling a new car
@@BakersDIYLifestyle packaging is fitting things into the smallest space possible. I would rather have to remove the airbox than how some batteries are. Probably the easiest modern battery placement is the trunk. I'm not sure why this isn't more common.
@adamlesandrini312 All they had to do was leave the tabs off and the battery could be removed without moving the air box. This isn't a packaging problem.

Congratulations, you just voided your warranty. Next time maybe think about that before doing it yourself. If you want your car done right and you want to keep your warranty, you need to take it t the dealership and have manufactured trained technician do the work properly for you.

You don't connect the ground (negative) cable until you have connected all the cables to the positive cable.

It's working just fine. If there are extra steps involved with removing battery terminals someone screwed something up
Did you have to do a battery reset? When i changed mine i had to do a battery reset so the alternator could relearn the new battery
