Ford Escape 2013-2019 Battery Change (Install Larger Battery)

- How to change a car battery on a 2014-2019 Ford Escape. I show how to change the battery, the extra steps necessary to install a larger than stock battery (94R), and also how to use an OBD2 Scanner to perform a Battery Monitoring System Reset.
I apologize for the quality of this video, I learned that Windows Default Video Editing software is garbage for decent sized videos and my project got corrupted and was barely able to export the unfinished product after several attempts.

This is one of the reasons I dumped my 2014 Escape...Changing the oil was a joy as well.
A couple of comments since I just finished replacing a 2013 Escape battery (using a stock 96R): 1) there is a small diameter coolant recovery line that can easily be damaged when removing/replacing the airbox. It's difficult to remove and costs $65, so be careful! 2) getting the airbox out was really difficult for me due to the three plastic hold-downs. Replacing it was difficult due to the jigsaw puzzle cold air intake parts. In retrospect, I think removing the cowl would have been easier. Most people struggle with removing the windshield wipers. Just get an inexpensive puller at your local auto parts store. Even if replacing with the larger battery as he did in this video it would be easier to remove the cowling to access the battery box, IMO.
The engineer that designed this should return his degree
Scott.... I lost count on the times you gave yourself the "Thumbs Up".
In the end, ya got er done.
Well done Sport!
Ridiculous amount of effort to R/R a battery...
Oh, and last thing: that air filter should have been replaced! Cleaning the outside of the cover after putting the dirty air filter back in was pretty funny ;0)
My dad has a 2015 with the 2.5L, I bought the hold down bracket that fits the 2016-2019 models with stop-start and removed both spacers from the box and put a Everstart Platinum H7 AGM battery in.
My question is did he have any electrical issues installing the H7 AGM battery? I have a 2016 Ford Escape with the 2.0 ecoboost and I am tempted to install a H7 AGM battery as my battery is getting weak. People say putting a bigger battery in will fry your electrics.
@@MarkK01It's been 2 years and it's been working fine. On the 2016+ you can actually use Forscan and set the battery type, I believe 94R/H7 AGM is one of the types you can set.
@@brandonupchurch7628 You would be correct. I have the battery already but we are in a deep freeze in Canada and I have to wait for warmer weather to swap it out. Forscan is a great program for Ford owners. I have already changed a few things using Forscan.
Gets on youtube to find out how to change battery to make youtube video on changing battery.😁😁
Nothing on this vehicle is Standard(SAE), it's all metric. Not 1/2 inch, it's 13mm, the 5/16 is actually 8mm.
And the 8mm air box screws are self-retaining, they aren’t supposed to come out.
I plan on replacing the original battery on a 2016 Ford Escape with an Odyssey AGM as well. From what I understand AGM batteries have a different charging rate than flooded batteries. For the Escapes the BMS menu in Forscan program is limited, compared to F150's. You don't get a list of batteries to select the right one, in our case an AGM. I was reading in the Forscan forums that an AGM battery will not be properly charged if not selected in the BMS menu. I was wondering if you just reset the battery, without any other settings. Thank you so much, your experience with your new battery will help with my upgrade.
That’s strange, the Focus has a full list, although not entirely accurate for aftermarket batteries. I had to choose the H7 AGM even though I’m using an Odyssey AGM48 (H6), but the H7 is closest to the Odyssey’s CCA rating.
And the normal and easier way to change the battery is to take the top cowl off. It takes 5 minutes to remove. That was extremely painful to watch. Most people would at least practice taking things apart before making a video of not knowing how to take things apart.
Great video!
Hi.so you replace the small batery and put a bigerone.why reset the battery monitor system
There was no point in doing this.what just because it was the same price? I don't get why you did this?
Don't concern yourself with the reason. His car...his choice.
Scott, how has your experience been with this vehicle? And with the bigger battery, how has that worked out for you?
My question is did he have any electrical issues installing the H7 AGM battery? I have a 2016 Ford Escape with the 2.0 ecoboost and I am tempted to install a H7 AGM battery as my battery is getting weak. People say putting a bigger battery in will fry your electrics.
I ran it with the larger battery for a year before I sold the vehicle and encountered no issues. The voltage is the same so I don't see how it would affect electronics
@@scottbushman7206 from what I am told is it happens to be the amps this battery uses. The amps is what they say will do the damage. But I am going to install the H7 battery and use Forscan to change the battery size perimeters in my ECU. Thanks for the reply.
Love how you went through how to install Forscan, but didn't show how to reset the BMS. Lol
Yeah, sorry. The files at the end of the video that showed that got corrupted.
@@chadbosko8935 that's a reusable K&N air filter. It's probably not dirty, just dark in color. It uses a filter oil.
@@AraceaeFanatics No it was disgustingly dirty. You could see all the bugs and crap.
I bet where you live it doesnt get below 32F
Hey nice video. How did you remove the hose in 4:30? You simply pulled it out? Mine has that hose but most of the Escapes or Kuga in the videos I've watched doesn't.
Why charge the stock battery to a larger one ??????????????
Why not? Easier starting, more reserve capacity and if replacing with an AGM better overall performance from the battery, especially if you have aftermarket electrical accessories.
How does she cold start now? Worth the money?
I never had an issue with it starting cold, I dont really notice a difference.
I switched because the 3 year battery cost the same as the bigger from Auto Zone, was from northern Indiana. If you jump some one with dead battery more cca better chance of getting it going.
This not the way to change the battery in an Escape. Lot, lot, lot easier to remove wipers and upper shroud. You get full access to battery!
Why was this done?
Was the larger battery just taller but still same length?
The H7 is both taller and longer than the stock 96R size, that's why you need to remove the spacers from the box..
We got a mercury mariner and those little batteries are weak sauce, I want to see what I can get away with lol Should be easier than this.
Hello , can someone help me to guide
disable anti-theft alarm on ford escape 2015
Te complicaste un poco con esta batería
The best solution we found to access the stupid location of the battery was to slap a for sale sign on the windows and dump it.
Good thinking!!
You should not fitt batteries
This doesn't work with any battery other than the Odyssey. The battery is just too big to install with the stock hold down no matter how you bend it. I just tried for hours and failed.
Feel like a complete piece of shit right now.
You should try the hold down for the 2017-2019 model year cars that came with stop/start, the part is DV6Z-10718-A , I replaced my dad's 96R with an H7 Everstart AGM battery from walmart and I used that hold down and it fit perfectly.
Different brackets are used between specific models as other Brandon stated. The 96R is much smaller than the H6/H7 AGM variants used with stop/start. If the tops of the batteries are similar, the 96R can be used. My Focus had a 96R, but I replaced mine with an Odyssey group 48/H6 AGM and the bracket didn’t fit. This guy is using a group 94 which is different.
And you use the wrong tools 😂
