I like your 4 jaw chuck, very inventive. I might copy it for my mini. Mine currently has wax chuck. I use hot glue but I like yours better. Yours could use a larger pulley driving the headstock. You don't need speed, you need torque. Mine turns by hand crank and is powerful enough to turn bras. So if you put a larger pulley at the headstock you will get more torque. Notice how even though you had speed the graver nearly stopped it. Anyway, enjoyed this video even though older.
Hahaha Well, this motor is rated to 30 Volts DC - and not to 20000 volts AC :p This trasnformer and the motor as well, are from a old printer. It was a cool project and it was sold and it is in actual usage by a craftsman. I´ll write about this project in my website soon. Stay tunned. :)

Bons tempos (e nao faz muito tempo) que eu tinha acesso a uma boa oficina e tinha minhas tralhas e ferramentas próprias. Foi muito legal encarar esse torninho, e logo foi vendido. Tenho ideias pra numa próxima vez, fazer sim com carro transversal e porta ferramentas para usinagem de plastico, mas mantendo o tamanho diminuto.

Jesús Domínguez Actually yes. Although in practice I achieved more torque, it's not the ideal thing to do since the pulley will be struggling with two belts due to the difference of ratio as you mentioned. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Olá Tell, Muito obrigado! Essa peça eu fiz utilizando meu torno taig com aço 1020. Depois de torneado, fiz os furos com broca 4.2 mm diametro e abri rosca com macho 5 mm. Abraços.

I want to build a mini lathe, There are many companies mini lathes in India with 40000 to 50000 Rs cost... But I can't want to afford it and my need is basic and as experiment Can you guide me in to make laths in cheap way ?
This what I've done is more a sculpture/toy than a functional lathe. Cheap things cost a lot! I advice to save some money and make/buy a good one, it shall last longer and even possible to sell later if you will. If you plan just have fun, do like I did here... random parts together and make some plastic dusts :)
@@FredSena thanks for reply friend I m brass jewellery manufacturer and in India mini lath cost 40 to 50 thousands or more But there after a buy lath i need to make some nessesory parts for use that cost 4 to 5 thousand If I make bench ,with Chuck,middle slide and last slide it cost me maximum 5 to 7 k only. Here separate parts of lath are available Anyway thanks for your reply 👍
Both belts are following the same path, so, it's not locking the system. I use 2 belts to enhance the grip. But doing this, I run it in the medium velocity. Motor big pulley to small pulley = High Velocity / Low torque # Motor small pulley to big pulley = Low Velocity/ High torque # Motor 2 belts in both pulleys = high grip, medium velocity medium torque. Do you catch my drift? :)
Fred Sena I do not understand! Is creating friction in belts and forcing the engine. Please review your project. is a brilliant assembly, but is destroying the law of physics.
Also in event that torque requirements slow down main pulley pinion to below both speeds, they both then fight to grip. So in slipping situation it would improve the transfer or torque, it's only in low torqe with no slipping, that they fight each other.

Well job! I think you may replace the 4 screws on the toolhead by 3 screws, because it will make your lathe more stable.

Usinei em Aço 1045. Se fosse alumino, mais cedo ou mais tarde iria criar folgas. Assim ficou bem sólido.

Are you feeding AC to the motor? Aren't those motors supposed to be DC?
I'm feeding with DC- I rectified and filtered the transformer's output.
Good job, I only add a tool holder on this way will make reproducible works

Cr Tl Yo are right, those belts are wrong. It's just putting necessary strain on the whole system.
