My approach to everything DIY; research well, prepare as much a possible and give it a go. Very practical approach and looks to have achieved a good result. impressed! Nice video.
You are "meant" to hang the film "left to right", not "up to down", because the heat shrink is orientated that way according to others. Does it still look okay now?
Cheers Guys I was going to spend £250 to get my Talbot Express tinted. But now I think I will do it myself. Thanks again for the confidence boost. Take care, Stu.
Thank you so much for showing us this guys. Very kind of you. This is something I want for my back windows. My DIY skills are lacking though, but I will try and get a professional to do it for me. If I can find a cheap one around. 😊
mate in the future just so you know they sell tint on ebay pre-cut and moulded to the shape of the windows for not much more for mine witch is a 5 door witch you would get the back window the 2 rear doors and them little windows between boot and rear doors for around 20 quid it save a lot of messing about with heat guns and its a lot quicker.. you done a real good job on that mate
tried tinting windows before on a corsa b didnt turn out well and heard you have to heat shrink the tint to the contours of window, but now your really tempting me to have another go on astra coupe lol that back window will be interesting good job lads.
Great job Martin, I have the film, squeegees etc to do my car, just waiting for the weather to be a little warmer/dryer. I too have been watching several video online, on how to do this, your method seemed a little different, a little shorter, ie.quicker, but you got the result. Thumbs up from me.
Martin, love it. You are a man after my own heart. I did this on my Mondeo having looked at the UA-cam video, including hot air gun shaping. Love that you encourage people to have a go!
You got it Miles. I grew up in a world where you could fix things and that's something that people don't do nowadays. It's a throw away society but you can still save a fortune doing these sort of things. Cheers Martin
Could not agree more. My Mondeo has had about £1000 spent by me on it and has done 50k in two years, if I hadn't had the skills or been prepared to give it a go then either it would be scrapped or cost another £3k on top for labour.
That came out good for your first time I have done it a bunch of times learned to shrink the tint on to the window from the outside first it works good but how you did works just as well good job lads...
You should call this video "Fifty Shades of Grey". You may get a completely different audience though. Nice one Martin, one of those jobs that seems v daunting but prep carefully and take your time. Well done.
Great vid Martin, I hate doing these have not touched it for 10 years or so now we did a lot of pick up truck canopy conversions for the local Toyota dealer and they were a B.....D as you were doing them from under a tressel when it was off or lay down on the pick up bed! It's all about the prep and how patient you are with regards to the finished results as with all bodywork jobs in genaral
Nice video, well explained. I did this myself 30 years ago to a mk1 escort, did all glass apart from windscreen, was easy, plenty of soapy water, mind you I did have all the glass out of the car at the time lol
Nice job! I've seen plenty of have a go heroes who've done it and it just looks like a bin liner sellotaped to the inside of the window! No thumbs down from me and you're through to the next round!
Looks great. I've always been hesitant to attempt this because I wanted to use professional grade tinting but didn't know where to purchase it. Truth be told I have no idea if there is even a difference!
great video Martin, I done this around 9 years ago with a Renault Clio I had but I used mirrored film and it turned out great it goes to show it's worth having a crack at it yourself and if all else fails you can just peel it off and get a pro to do it and it's no major loss just a roll of film and a little time. I enjoyed this video and I look forward to seeing the next you make *cough food and cooking* :) and as always it's a thumbs up from me
Interesting to watch This is something I don't need to do on my C4 Grand Picasso because it already has tinted glass. Your prep certainly paid off. I've been given the job of getting a Corsa C back on the road so getting it through the MoT is the top priority.
I've just done the service and getting the fuel filter off was a mare. Unfortunately, I broke the fuel feed pipe so I've had to buy a replacement on eBay. Removing the pipe involves dropping the tank but fortunately, there's an inspection panel under the rear seat which makes the fuel pump a bit easier to get to.
Good job done for a first go. I self taught myself to window tint before the luxury of UA-cam or internet for that matter lol. Good luck with the back window, your lucky it's only a small window on the car your doing. Probably best done with two people so you can shut matey there in the boot to chase water out while you heat up the glass. Iv had a couple of cars if mine I had to do the rear window in 2 or even 3 strips because of the curve in the glass. You should get away with one piece on your window though. I'd always take wind down windows out to tint. I'd always get 100% pro job done on them. Looking forward to see you tint the back window. Anyone can do this, just got to have the b0###x to get stuck in and have a go! 👍
Great diy video mate, nice to see your using just the basic squeegee tool and not all these fancy ones that others use. I got the same film on eBay 6m for £5 delivered lol I think this tint is as cheap as it gets, how’s your tints holding up by the way I know it’s been over 4 years
You and Lee should done the rear window! mate I could just see it in my mind ha ha ha Talk about funny, all of us out here would have pissed our self's lol. Nice one Martin love your vidios they should give you a TV slot on discovery channel that would be great. Speak soon Tim
I THOUGHT you were meant to use the heat gun when it's dry ON THE FILM to slightly melt the film to get it to fit the curve of the window (usually the vertical curve).
Did you do the rear window in the end Martin? I could do the side windows on my Fiesta (about as easily as you did it) but struggled on the rear. You sort of struggle shrinking it and it ended up creasing on me twice. Want to have another go with a new technique but was just wondering how easily you managed to get it done. As you say we live in a throwaway society and I hate paying someone to do a job I know I can learn to do myself.
Martin, Great job to get it spot on first time. When i did the same job on the Mini bar fridge i screwed up by not using enough water and found it difficult to to use the plastic spatula. Was that cloth you had wrapped around the spatula. Cheers David
I enjoy watching videos by average people who learn as they go on do more videos on tint if you redo them, 20% tint is okay on front sides in uk as long as 70% lights going through so still like 80% getting through with 20 tint
You done side windows first cut wrong. Tint can only be shrunk to the factory grain. Otherwise it creases the fingers. You need to have tint going side to side not up and down. As fingers can only srink up and down to factory grain.. Also you heed to head srink all windows unless completely flat. Very rarely in a car. But good attempt. Im self taught and still learning as i plan to do this plus detailing and mods on a mobile scale.
Great video! I tried this myself! This is going to sound confusing. I put the window tint inside got all water out, went to get the dryer. Noticed on the outside looking into the glass it wasn’t clear it had line marks of water from the directions I had wiped the water out. Any idea why that is will it clear up after a few days!? Thank you! Hope this makes some sense haha!
First mistake you made was measuring and cutting the film in the wrong direction. You should always measure the tint horizontally as that's the way to heat shrink the tint.
I tried it years ago but forgot to take the clear film bit off so they fell off after a few days 😂 Never thought about the insurance side of it, now I’m wondering whether to bother
It's a bit of a tough one, I'm getting mine done soon and my insurance only want £30 admin fee. Definitely worth declaring mods though as if you crash you run the risk of your insurance being void = court cases and all sorts. Plus, you'll barely be able to afford to insure a car again if that happens!
My approach to everything DIY; research well, prepare as much a possible and give it a go. Very practical approach and looks to have achieved a good result. impressed! Nice video.
Brilliant tutorial very well explained I love your car related videos because everyone’s different and you go into the detail
You are "meant" to hang the film "left to right", not "up to down", because the heat shrink is orientated that way according to others.
Does it still look okay now?
Great job for a diy go , love how you spent so much time cleaning the outside of the window to then lay the whole roll on the roof lmao
Turned out great though.
Cheers Guys I was going to spend £250 to get my Talbot Express tinted. But now I think I will do it myself. Thanks again for the confidence boost. Take care, Stu.
You should be fine on flat windows Stu.
Cheers
Martin
Just tined my windows, turned out perfectly thanks to you guys :)
Great job guys. Convinced me to give it a go myself :)
I wonder if you tried it and how it go
Excellent video. Hats off to you both for giving it a go and succeeding. Love the Reliant videos by the way. Kindest regards, Neil.
HI Neil, Thanks for watching and glad you are enjoying the vids.
Cheers
Martin
Thank you so much for showing us this guys. Very kind of you. This is something I want for my back windows. My DIY skills are lacking though, but I will try and get a professional to do it for me. If I can find a cheap one around. 😊
Just watched your demonstration on tinting as I will giving it a go on my bmw tourer rear window some really good tips thanks
mate in the future just so you know they sell tint on ebay pre-cut and moulded to the shape of the windows for not much more for mine witch is a 5 door witch you would get the back window the 2 rear doors and them little windows between boot and rear doors for around 20 quid it save a lot of messing about with heat guns and its a lot quicker.. you done a real good job on that mate
What steps do u need to do if its pre cut?
@@tobywynn9616 all the steps except the cutting out part.
tried tinting windows before on a corsa b didnt turn out well and heard you have to heat shrink the tint to the contours of window, but now your really tempting me to have another go on astra coupe lol that back window will be interesting good job lads.
Great job!! I got quoted £120.00 for my car Windows, might have a go of it myself. Thanks very much for this great video 😊
Great job guys, you have given me the confidence to give it "A go" myself. Cheers!
So how did it work out for you ?
Great job Martin, I have the film, squeegees etc to do my car, just waiting for the weather to be a little warmer/dryer.
I too have been watching several video online, on how to do this, your method seemed a little different, a little shorter, ie.quicker, but you got the result. Thumbs up from me.
Cool, thanks
Martin, love it. You are a man after my own heart. I did this on my Mondeo having looked at the UA-cam video, including hot air gun shaping. Love that you encourage people to have a go!

Nice job Martin. Well done for managing to do it on the one non-windy day this year in Lincolnshire!!
Haha, yes John, it did come from nowhere when we started lol
That came out good for your first time I have done it a bunch of times learned to shrink the tint on to the window from the outside first it works good but how you did works just as well good job lads...
Another great money saving tip from the retrorestore guys! Thumbs up from me
Thanks Scotty. Pleased with the result as it was our first time.
If the glass is flat it will go on as this did, if the glass is curved, you will need heat to shrink it in to shape, a lot tougher a job
You should call this video "Fifty Shades of Grey". You may get a completely different audience though. Nice one Martin, one of those jobs that seems v daunting but prep carefully and take your time. Well done.
Nice one Stew lol
Cheers

Yes, you are 100% right there Harry. All about the prep.

Nice one Eric.

Martin

Cheers Pete.
Thanks Pete, never done this before.
Well fair play Martin . It looked mustard .Very easy to well make a dogs dinner of it.
I agree Pete, preparation is essential I think.
Nice video, well explained. I did this myself 30 years ago to a mk1 escort, did all glass apart from windscreen, was easy, plenty of soapy water, mind you I did have all the glass out of the car at the time lol
Yes, it's the soapy water that makes it easier Paul.
Cheers
Martin
looks really good to me excellent preperation and a real good finish top job
thanks John, It's all in the prep.
Nice job! I've seen plenty of have a go heroes who've done it and it just looks like a bin liner sellotaped to the inside of the window! No thumbs down from me and you're through to the next round!

Easy little cars to work on, good luck with it. I'v done a few jobs on them in my playlist but you probably know that anyway lol
Enjoyed watching, am having a go this weekend
Well done looks good

well done Martin saved a bit of money, I paid £79 for mine to be done...great vid cheers Steve
It's a learnable skill so we thought we'd give it a go.
Pretty decent video, certainly worth consideration with doing mine
Nice vid,took your advice
another good video had a freelander 2 and it cost £150 6 years ago would certainly have a go myself
Yes, the bigger the car, the more it costs I presume.
Good job done for a first go. I self taught myself to window tint before the luxury of UA-cam or internet for that matter lol. Nice comment bud. You sound like you have it down to a tee and being self taught as well. Nice one.

Martin
Top job Martin
Thanks bud.
Brilliant
Great job - love the video!
Great diy video mate, nice to see your using just the basic squeegee tool and not all these fancy ones that others use. I got the same film on eBay 6m for £5 delivered lol I think this tint is as cheap as it gets, how’s your tints holding up by the way I know it’s been over 4 years
Not sure bud, we sold the car ages ago.
Job well done lads.
Thanks you guys great video, I’m gonna try it ✌️😂
By the way you done a great job really surprised !
Good stuff, well done 👍🏻

Thanks Kristian
Your video was great! Makes me want to give it a crack myself. Cheers fellahs.
Fair play Martin you did a good job there, for a first attempt it looked brilliant, now let's see you do the curved back window? Ha ha ha
Sold the car Tim lol
You and Lee should done the rear window! mate I could just see it in my mind ha ha ha
Talk about funny, all of us out here would have pissed our self's lol. Nice one Martin love your vidios they should give you a TV slot on discovery channel that would be great. Speak soon Tim
Brilliant video 👌👌
Thank you! Cheers!
Great video matey!
Nice video Martin, but please give Gary a chance to say something. Ha, ha. Looking forward to the next vid.
Gary doesn't like talking on the camera. I do enough for everybody haha
Keep um coming.. Great vids
Thanks! Will do!
Cheers just doing this job myself very helpful
Good luck with it Daz.
great vid Martin..
I THOUGHT you were meant to use the heat gun when it's dry ON THE FILM to slightly melt the film to get it to fit the curve of the window (usually the vertical curve).
I'm no expert bud.
Class video
It came out really good!
I'm definitely going to attempt this myself after watching your video. Great job. How did the tint hold up ?
No problems at all with it bud.
This has been a great help! Thank you both, i have now subbed too :)
Thanks for the sub Jack.
Cheers
Martin
That doesn't seem like best quality film. How long did it last before fading?
Did you do the rear window in the end Martin? I could do the side windows on my Fiesta (about as easily as you did it) but struggled on the rear. You sort of struggle shrinking it and it ended up creasing on me twice. Want to have another go with a new technique but was just wondering how easily you managed to get it done. As you say we live in a throwaway society and I hate paying someone to do a job I know I can learn to do myself.
He sold it soon after so we didn't get round to it i'm afraid
Martin, Great job to get it spot on first time. When i did the same job on the Mini bar fridge i screwed up by not using enough water and found it difficult to to use the plastic spatula. Was that cloth you had wrapped around the spatula. Cheers David
Yes it was cloth Dave. Gary has ordered a proper one but it hadn't come yet so we improvised lol
I enjoy watching videos by average people who learn as they go on do more videos on tint if you redo them, 20% tint is okay on front sides in uk as long as 70% lights going through so still like 80% getting through with 20 tint
Wrong mate....only about 80% of light gets through clear glass ie...front and side windows...so max only 10% tint....
Great video i might give it a go meself
Is this stuff safe to use on the rear window defroster?
Great video im going to do mine now cheers lads
Great video bud! Top lad!
Hi just come across this bloģg is you're tints still on you're window I know it's 2 yrs this summer just wondering cheers love the vids
Car was sold bud
Thanks for the replie buddy keep up the great work like you're vids

Great video done like a profesional
Cheers bud Thanks for watching.
Hello mate when you used that yellow thing with a tissue on the inside what’s that called mate?
its just a plastic scraper bud
Great job
looks fine to me, good job
Thanks Al.
You must have left water in between the film bud. It may dry out.
Thank you for your help!
Good 😊 job mate
well done u2!! good job :)
Thanks Stu, Yes, it turned out great.
Thank you
First mistake you made was measuring and cutting the film in the wrong direction. You should always measure the tint horizontally as that's the way to heat shrink the tint.
I'm not an expert, There is more than one way to skin a cat.
I think I'm going to try this on my car now
When do u want to do mine Martin I have the tint all pre cut aswell lol
Haha, it might have been beginners luck lol
Thats sick
I tried it years ago but forgot to take the clear film bit off so they fell off after a few days 😂
Never thought about the insurance side of it, now I’m wondering whether to bother
