    the bass patterns - this is all factory sounds yes? that's quite impressively pleasing-sounding!

    • @OscillatorSink
      @OscillatorSink  6 років тому +3

      The bass sounds are coming from a Novation Bass Station, it'll be a patch that I built myself, not a factory preset. To be clear (I'm not presuming ignorance here, so apologies if I'm stating the obvious), the BeatStep Pro *doesn't* make any sound itself, it has to trigger other instruments over midi or CV.

    Very nice video. You explain in a nice clear manner. Thank you.
    Can you make a video explaining if we can use the drum sequencer with NI maschine to have the sounds of machine but make the sequences and scenes on beatstep pro. Also if the drum sequencer can be used with a synth. Also if each sequencer can be used with different devices at the same time, for example one pattern would be from one synth and the other pattern on the same sequencer from another synth.

    • @OscillatorSink
      @OscillatorSink  6 років тому

      Sadly I don't have Maschine, so I can't help there directly, but it's all about setting the Midi channel of the sequences and having the synths you want to sequence receive midi on that same channel (the setting is usually called "Receive channel" or "Rx Channel"). On the drum sequence you can even set different pads to send midi to different channels, but that has to be set up in the Midi Control Centre software on your PC.

    Got my first jam with the BSP out there on youtube. Love the little machine and exploring it with your tips and tricks. Got a lot to learn. The only thing I have to say is that its hard to sync a VST or an iPad drummachine. Running sparkle or another plugin trough Logic pro, the beat ends up on channel 1 and channel 10.
    I am using audiobus on the ipad with DM1. Try to put a video out on the problems i have. I also get a zoom noise when connecting the sync out to a Volca.

    • @OscillatorSink
      @OscillatorSink  6 років тому

      So I'm terms of the channels etc. I highly recommend looking at the Midi Control Centre software from Arturia. It allows you to set everything up. The BSP isn't something that will always work out of the box with every setup - that's part of what makes it flexible, but it does mean you might need to tweak things a bit. If you're getting noise on the sync, then make sure you're using the little USB ground hum eliminator (it's the Y-shaped USB adapter), that fixes those kinds of issues 99 percent of the time.
      Hope that helps move things along!

    • @synriser6742
      @synriser6742 6 років тому

      Already tried some setups in the midi control center. The Y splitter is connected to the computer and a usb hub. Going to try and connect it to external USB battery pack. Thanks for the reply and tips.

    Can you make a demo on showing how to control Behringer Model D via Arthuria Beat Step Pro; lot of people seem to be using those gears but there is no good video on showing the connectivity of both of them . Also I am planning to connect the midi from Arturia beat step pro and key step to the model d using the Y MIDI cable, so that I can have an arp from BEAT STEP continuously playing while I play live lead in to the model d using the Keystep.
    Pleas show a video of how to connect model d with the beahringde MODEL D! Thnxxx.

    Maybe a weird question. But is there a way to program the beatstep 2 specific instrument (drummachines) in the tr8 drummachine? So building a pattern in the beatstep on drumrack, with changes per pattern using other instrument from the tr8 without touching my tr8? Or should I just make my own kits on the tr8?
    Thanks in advance,
    Kind regards!

    • @OscillatorSink
      @OscillatorSink  2 роки тому

      I don't know the TR8, but I think that'd require some program change and CC stuff that might be out of the reach of the BSP. There might be some stuff you could do if you introduced something like a Midihub, but that might be a case of overcomplicating things honestly...

    A late buyer of the Keystep Pro but this is still the best 2.0 explanation :) Thanks! I guess in Eurorack you can only control 1 kind of drum if you don‘t use a Midi to CV converter with multiple CV outs in your rack. Or what is your solution for the drum track with Eurorack?

    Your video is great...saved me alot of time! I was wondering if you ever used that "PRST LINK" button? I have read , watched Arturia show how to use it but never got it to work. Is this "scenes mode" pretty much the same thing? If not maybe you know how to use?

    • @OscillatorSink
      @OscillatorSink  7 років тому +1

      +Zsazsa Gabor thanks for the feedback! All the "PRST LINK" does is change all of the sequences at once when you use the arrows on the sequencer/drum tracks so you can change 3 sequences all at once with a single button press. Weirdly, in the manual it's described as "Seq Link" which makes much more sense.
      In the Midi Control Centre, you can change its behaviour between "absolute" (eg. Changing the preset to '3' on the drums also sets the presets on the sequencers to '3') or "relative" (eg. If move the drum sequence up by one, the other two sequences also move up by one from their current setting).
      Hope that helps!

    Thanks for an excellent tutorial.
    I am using the BSP slaved to Logic Pro and it works really well with my cv gear and Roland boutique drum machines, I prefer writing the sequences on the BSP rather than fiddling around on the boutiques. One thing that’s puzzling me is why it is limited to 16 patterns in a chained sequence. Say I have a song in Logic that is 128 bars long and I’ve programmed 16 different drum patterns 4 bars long. It’s only possible to chain half the song and save that as a scene right?
    I’d have to save another scene of 16 chained patterns for the second half of the song and manually press scene 2 in control mode half way through the song?
    Do you know of any ways around this? I wish I could chain the scenes...! I.E song mode!
    Any advice or pointers to any other videos would be much appreciated!
    Cheers 🍻

      Oscillator Sink thanks for the quick reply. Even if the scenes could play consecutively that would be helpful. Surely this would be easy for Arturia to implement. I read somewhere it is a memory issue. If Drum machines from the 80’s could do it...

    Is there a limitation of how many times you can repeat a single pattern? I mean, on the drumbrute song mode if you repeat the same pattern 5 times it will take 5 slot of the 16 available of the song mode. Therefore it's impossible to create songs with a proper lenght. What about this?

    • @OscillatorSink
      @OscillatorSink  4 роки тому

      I've checked the manual and the pattern chains are limited to 16 patterns here as well, but you could, for example have a scene per section of the song and trigger a scene manually in control mode. That said, if what you want is to play back entire pre sequenced songs you might want to look at something less performance oriented, like maybe the Squarp Pyramid?

    • @TheFragile79
      @TheFragile79 4 роки тому

      @@OscillatorSink Yes i know that it's limited to 16 patterns. But i read elsewhere that's just the limitation of how many DIFFERENT patterns you can use in one scene, not the limit of how many times you can repeat them. I read if you repeat a single pattern x50 times that's just one of the 16 "slot" you have. Can you confirm that? Try to make a scene where you repeat the same A pattern x 16 and then have a B pattern after that. Play it and see if it works. If it's limited to 16 patterns in lenght it won't reach pattern B. Otherwise it'll mean there's no limitation in lenght/loops

    Do you know how to connect it and utilise cv routing as my brute has loads of cv inputs not just in and out but all parameters of my brute ?

    • @OscillatorSink
      @OscillatorSink  7 років тому

      +Callum Clarke as a simple starting point (and I'm not that familiar with the Matrix, so I'm just going off the manual), if you want the BSP to be "in charge", start by connecting the Clock Out on the BSP to the Sync In on the Brute (it's not with the block of CV controls, it's a bit further along). Then you can pick one of the sequencer channels, and take the Gate Out of the BSP into the Gate In on the Brute (same again, it's separate to the block of CV Inputs). Then Pitch Out on the BSP into the Pitch CV input on the Brute. Finally you could do something like patching the Vel out into the Filter or Metalizer CV inputs - but it's kinda whatever you like there, experiment.
      That all being said, if you're just straight up sequencing you might be better working over MIDI because then you can take advantage of the velocity mapping in the matrix which will probably lead to better expression with the velocity.
      As an aside, I think one thing that could be very cool would be to use a "pure" CV sequencer, like the little Korg SQ-1, that doesn't quantize the CV to actual notes, and clock it from the Matrix and just have it sequencing some of the more interesting parameters on the CV panel directly. You could actually try that with the BSP's Pitch outputs as well, but it'll be stepped - probably still loads of fun though!
      I hope that made sense and it's given you a starting point. Have fun and let me know how you get on!

    • @OscillatorSink
      @OscillatorSink  4 роки тому

      @@jmfhsmith4923 unless my maths is off - a 100 x 64 step sequences at 16ths resolution at 120 bpm is 13 minutes long. 16x64 steps at 120 bpm is about 2 minutes of unique patterns - longer if you repeat them, obviously. But on the drum part and 2 monophonic parts that the BSP offers, are there never going to be repeated sections? Maybe not in your music I guess, and more power to you if that's the case, but I'm just trying to illustrate what it means in real terms.
      If you want something with a more comprehensive song mode you could look at something like the Squarp Pyramid - that will probably give you the flexibility that your music needs. Or if you're willing to get on the waiting list - there's always the Cirklon. Now that is a serious box.

For drums I'm using a DR-660 drum machine with MIDECO Midi to trigger/velocity module. 150 user patterns and less gimmicky pattern chaining. I wish I knew the right set up to be able to use the 660 to control CV/gate. I have 4 Dr-660s. They are so fun. It's just the simplest trigger sequencer on the planet.

    one question still alive! how can i timenudge and microtime... sequencersection not drumsection

      To my knowledge, I don't think you can. I think you only have swing as a way of altering the groove on the sequencer tracks.

    Can scenes be chained as well? If so is it possible to save scene chains like pattern chains?
    When switching between scenes does the wait to load pattern feature still apply?

      +Victor Scherman just double checked this: scenes can't be chained and the wait to load is end of pattern rather than scene (you can see this in action in the video). Both seem like sensible features (especially wait till end of chain) so hopefully it'll be something Arturia will consider in a later update...

      Oscillator Sink chaining scenes would definitely be a great feature to add. Though it's already a great update.

      Just finished getting my head round this feature and came back to this vid to see if it was possible to also chain scenes seemed the next logical thing. Fingers crossed for an update to do so!! Cheers again to Oscillator Sink these vids are an essential guide especially to a newbie BSP user like myself!!

    Is there any disadvantage to turning Scenes mode on? Why is it optional?

    • @OscillatorSink
      @OscillatorSink  6 років тому

      Not that I can think for the way I use it, but I guess that Arturia didn't want to ruin the workflow of people already using the BSP? All of the big features they added were optional so that if you updated the firmware for the bug fixes, you could still perform with it straight away without having to learn any new behaviour.

    Have you encountered anomalies yet when switching scenes? I'm gettin extra notes and almost like a beat repeat

    • @OscillatorSink
      @OscillatorSink  7 років тому

      +mAzMiTh do you have "wait for pattern" turned on (shift and 14 in control mode)? If it's not you change instantly - I wonder if different pattern lengths can mess with stuff there?

    • @mAzMiTh1
      @mAzMiTh1 7 років тому

      Oscillator Sink yeah, I have that turned on. It's really strange, what's happening is when I switch scenes, there are notes sounding where there aren't any placed in the sequence. If I hit stop on the BSP, and in ableton, then restart the scene, it will play as written. It only happens to me when I'm switching from one scene to another

      +mAzMiTh that's weird. I haven't had this happen. Does it happen when you have the clocking set to internal (I'm guessing you're synchronised to Ableton at the moment?)? Also, if I remember there was a 2.0.2 patch which mentioned a clocking issue - I suspect that 2.0.0 was never actually available, but that's worth checking in the Midi Control Centre. Otherwise, I'd report to Arturia directly as its probably something they'd be interested in hearing about. Good luck and let me know how you get on...

      Oscillator Sink ya, I have USB sync on coming from ableton and after playing with it a few more hours today, it doesn't always happen. I'll check the MCC software to see if there was s a fix, but your prob right that 2.0.0 was never released
