    arturia did send the keystep a month ago, to give it a go and give feedback on it as i have been bugging them for an updated version of the beatstep pro for a couple of years!, i didnt get asked to do a vid and what not. i just do videos on things i think are useful. and i haven't touched on this sequencer before, hence why it takes up most of the end of the vid. all the other sequencers i mentionned have there own videos on my channel.

    • @MSM5500
      @MSM5500 4 роки тому +1

      @@LOOKMUMNOCOMPUTER , I guess MPC1000 drove you mad because it's not that much capable of doing many things on the fly. Basically MPC is a sampler with a sequencer. I like MPC for its 96ppq resolution that allows to record synth lead solos off beat. All the sequences with only standard note quantasing are just garbage cause primitive quantasing is what has killed music of many genres. What do you think about MidiBOX SEQ V4+ (Midiphy FP design) ua-cam.com/video/UJ3Wof8eCqc/v-deo.html ?

    • @NiElsir
      @NiElsir 4 роки тому +1

      @@MSM5500 That is a limitation with the MPC alright - the closet I found to get around it is first set up a template (having a bunch of tracks set up, as MIDI on the correct MIDI channel - having your drum samples loaded in (if you want them) and have your tracks ready. Then when jamming, just use the Overdub feature and not the Start+Rec (Which stops playback) - you can disable the Click track on overdub also so it seems fairly seamless. Noted though - I use the JJOS2XL OS

    Hey, Sam, just wanted to let you know how much of an impact you have made on my musical life. Years ago I was just getting into music via EDM and other similarly (crap) music. Then I stumbled into the world of Eurorack via Deadmau5. Then, thanks to UA-cam's recommended, I discovered you. You have changed the way I have looked upon music: as an art and outlet. Your music and enthusiasm as inspired me to walk down the road of electronic music on small budget. My first purchase was a BeatStep Pro which I discovered because of you! It is invaluable to my set up and just wanted to thank you. Have a great day, Sam. And keep your music happy and enthusiastic (Desparado Vespa was a little to dark and heavy in my opinion, but the live one in London was great).

    Kilpatrick Carbon - midi in / out, 4x CV/trig out, 6 independent tracks of 64 steps. Each step is polyphonic (so if you want a chord, you don't have to waste 3 tracks). Also indepentent step lengths, and mainly, you can have it loop different parts of the sequence in each track. Track1 can be looping steps 3-15 and track2 looping steps 1-31 (so polymeter easily possible). Also track1 can be 1/4 triples, and track2 dotted 1/16ths. It has arpegiator and many small fun features... as a bonus, it's power switch isn't ON/OFF switch, but OFF / Sequencer ON / MIDI to CV converter ON.

    Thanks, nice video, I will probably get this keystep pro as an add-on for my push 2.0 controller, having 2 controllers is fun and gets you in different idea modes, I would use all channels for different synths and the push 2.0 for the samples and beats. BTW, the teenage engineering OPZ is a really fun sequencer as well and can go quite deep. it can do some really amazing and innovative stuff (pattern creation, effects, randomization of patterns, arping, bar variations on patterns, transposing entire sections, sampling anything, etc) and you can take it anywhere and create ideas/songs on it. I travel a lot, and the OPZ has allowed me to be 10x more productive than normal and I got to a point where I created so many ideas on it that I could not keep up and had to take a break from the OPZ to allow myself to get some songs into my DAW. Also some of the OPZ stock sound engines sound really fresh so it can stand on it's own as a multiple instrument musical device.

    Oh yeah, the struggle is real definitely! As an eurorack fiend I'm happy with Make Noise Rene + Pressure Points. Really intuitive and hands on. And if I need a few extra melodic lines - there's an old sequencers I luckily haven't sold - first Beatstep (not pro, btw it's still useful as midi to cv converter/master clock from Ableton), Microbrute with it's own sequencer and also relatively obscure Doboz Prizma. Only 6 hp, two cv channels and lots of features for a fraction of price. But Prizma is a DIY kit only. So it's perfect if you don't mind to get your hands dirty with some SMD soldering :D

    I’m pretty psyched to get my hands on a KSP. Imho Arturia really nailed the workflow on both the BSP and the KSP!

    Thanks for the video Sam! Although I'm a life-long musician, I'm new to making electronic music, so your opinions are helpful. Right now I'm trying to build a decent setup on a budget. Arturia's products seem perfect for a guy like me. Anyway, I'll be sure to stay tuned. Stay healthy out there and keep the great music and vids coming! 👍

    Thanks, that was terrific...I have the regular Keystep, and really like it...for just learning things...but it has a real MIDI output... I have the Minilab...to use for sequencing..but I haven't figured it out yet..and it is USB only. But I really like that Keystep pro you showed at the end... I have more to learn...

    Arturia's BSP is a piece of art, and yes, you can sequence polyphonic

    Brother! I thoroughly enjoy your ‘diggingdeepintosequencers’. My nightmare one was the Alesis MMT8. Do a vid on some of the old old skool ones. Mpc, Alesis, Casio FZ1 and such? Love from Holland

    The software sequencer Numerology by Five12 is quite amazing. It can control anything, is polyphonic and can run multiple sequences simultaneously. There is now a hardware incarnation of it (Vector) but it requires a somewhat different approach to programming

    The nerdseq reminds me of the soundtrackers on the Amiga computer. My favorite sequencer is Korg Gadget on the iPad. They’ve added a midi-out gadget to it about a year ago.

    The erica synths black sequencer that's due out in the next month or two is my dream sequencer. Everything is right there and immediate, but has deeper functions to keep it interesting.. agree the perfect sequencer is like hunting a unicorn but that one looks about as close to my ideal as any design can get!

    Absolute utterly different approach for doing sequencing but I was extremely impressed by the RM1x, though I'm admittedly pretty alright with menu diving for complicated features. Got a beatstep pro coming in tomorrow, super excited to give it a shot and get a feel for the more improvisational workflow.
