Hi James. I know this is a little bit outside of what your videos cover (because you mostly talk about British rock bands), but do you think you could do a video about the album Marquee Moon by Television? I don't know how familiar you are with American rock bands, but I really think you should dissect that album because according to Wikipedia it was "an original development in rock music" at the time of its release (which was in 1977). A lot of rock enthusiasts like yourself also regard it as the last great rock album because they think the stuff that came after it all the way up to today pales in comparison. Just reply to this comment if you're interested in my suggestion.
@@riquifferHe actually liked both. I remember him saying he was into DITW in one of his radio interviews round 2018, probably Absolute radio, if I’m not mistaken. And in 2023 he praised DTTW in one of his Twitter posts.
I thought from the very first time I heard Dead In The Water that it's about Liam. The song immediately screamed "Liam" to me and I really trust my gut when it comes to Oasis (because things really turned out how I thought they will turn out). I think that Noel writes a lot of songs about Liam and that Liam is indeed his biggest muse. It's obvious that both brothers have a lot of feelings for each other and it baffles me when some people claim otherwise

We got them crawling up and down on their hands and their knees" - Black & White Sunshine "I'm waiting for the storm to come back and take me down the things I left unsaid when lying on the bed right next to the face you wore. When you left me on my one, now I've been on my own." ; "Memories. Forever set in stone when all is said and done. They're just like the falling leaves together in your day" - If Love Is The Law "We never should have left town in the first place" - The Man Who Built The Moon
Dead In The Water is one of Noel's best vocal performances. No wonder he released the demo rather than try to record a 'proper' version. There's an ache in his voice that you can't just fake on command.
That was a great great video. Easily my favorite solo song and I never put that connection there. I think a great video would be all the songs the brothers wrote about each other (or performances with nods to the other - ex, Liam pretending to play a shrill flute part)
I would’ve agreed that the feud was at least a little bit exaggerated until Liam texted Anais, threatening Sara to keep her mouth shut. From then on it seemed to take a dark and serious turn. Noel was livid (see his Zane Lowe interview for proof). Things started to seem a little exaggerated and “put on” when Noel started with the WWE style “I dare you to fucking call me. I DARE YOU!!!” stuff a few months before the reunion was announced. Until then, it was very real. The other brother, Paul said on a podcast that Liam had made many, genuine attempts in private to bury the hatchet and Noel never responded.
@calvin9631 I agree with you, in 2019 Liam said in an interview that he was 'starting to believe Noel doesn't really like me' and that he always thought it was banter coming from Noel but it wasn't anymore. And I dare say Noel started to consider reforming the band during the pandemic (he said tensions with Sara started during the lockdown), that he was living in a hotel room for months prior to their breakup - and so by the time they divorced he was already doing those interviews daring Liam to call him etc
Great video James. I did not know anything about that sound clip. I saw him at the Tabernacle in Atlanta the same year, but without that Intro. Keep on doing what you doing....thanks mate !!!!
@jameshargreavesguitar - I can’t believe you’ve missed the biggest clue - go look at the lyric video for Dead in the Water - the first time the line ‘the photograph of you that I keep seems funny’ appears (around 55 seconds in) there’s an extract of a black and white photo which is clearly from a famous photo from the 90s of Liam sticking his tongue out…
I don't think it is a coincidence that he only played it at American gigs. If he played it in the UK, pandemonium would have ensued and it would have been all over the media immediately. I think there was a genuine conflict between them initially, but I think it was squashed a long time ago. I think the key to all of it was the relationship between Liam and Sarah. I think she probably told Noel that she did not want Liam around. Once that relationship ended, they were free to get back together. I think they had probably been planning this for a long time. If you think about it, they did it at the perfect time. Ticket prices are through the roof, fans were going crazy for it, and they don't really have much competition in this day and age. They did it at the point where it would have maximum impact and they could make shit ton of money. How many times did Noel and Liam fight over the years? They always got over it quickly. What made this fight so different? I think Noel was just trying to keep Sarah happy initially, then they just decided to wait until the perfect time and cash in.
I think if Liam was there it would have leaked out somehow; a photo, a story, something. Perhaps there was a recent-ish [post Oasis breakup] picture of them together on the wall or on a screen somewhere behind him that he didn't want in the shot. As for the song, I always thought that Sarah and Noel could have been going through a rough patch and he was so in love, he wasn't going to let the relationship go. He was going to do anything he could to keep it together.
I thinky you are probably right about this. Everyone here is having a conspiracy theory. Noel was still a bit cranky towards Liam and didn't want his image in the background
Calm, 'Dead In The Water' was just another version of 'My Sister Lover', 'Lock All The Doors' and 'Guess God I am Abel' from these suspicious brothers.
Hi James, not that it adds much but Noel played that clip at the sony centre in Toronto as well… I was there. wasn’t video taping at that moment though
It's hard to interpret song lyrics too deeply, especially Noel's, but I've always felt that "Dead in the water" was indeed about the end of a relationship, and there were definitely echoes of Oasis' breakup. Then again, many Oasis lyrics seem to be about the two brothers' relationship. As Noel said in an interview "I will never leave Oasis, and Oasis will never leave me". Deep down, I think he needs the band and he needs Liam, as his relationship with his brother has always seemed to be one of his main sources of inspiration.
The idea in general of having a sibling (much like yourself in general hobbies / likes) be apart of your life then be out of it for close to 15 years is hard to understand.
I remember on the Matt Morgan podcast, him asking Noel if he could tell a story about that song on the podcast, the gist of it was apparently Noel heard a song and thought ‘ I could write a better tune in 20 mins’ and wrote dead in the water. Noel was very adamant that story wasn’t told on air, so possibly a response to a Liam song? One of us or for what it’s worth maybe?
Great video, love watching your stuff ! .. my personal 2 cents .. Noel is clearly having a bit of banter with one of his band mates about pixelating him out etc. If Liam was genuinely there you absolutely would have heard him firing back with some loud banter of his own! He’s never been one to stay quiet especially if it’s Noel having a crack at him.
Yeah, I mean this is the most likely scenario! But as I say in the video... it's just a fun conspiracy theory to kick around... But there is also that photo of Liam from this tour with an AAA (Access All Areas) pass that he tweeted, saying 'keeping it in the family'
As soon as I heard "subterfuge...one more album" I was like WHAT?! Too bad this wasn't more widely known at the time. Could the promised land be an oasis? The empire built on the sand? Thanks for the great video James.
''Yeah Good, Yeah'' does just sound like the keys player (Mike Rowe?) is acknowledging his mix is good to go. Probably more than one engineer in the room and he's having a separate conversation. Great Videos, keep them coming.
Hey James another really enjoyable content from you, thank you!!! There are also other song that I wonder what they're talking about: Keep on Reaching The Girl with X Rays Eyes Riverman
I always thought the line about money didn't make sense 😅 they are making a documentary so maybe the video will eventually see the light of day! I think you may have nailed it 👍
On episode 155 of Matt's Poscast they had this dialogue about this song once: Matt reading email: ''In a podcast Matt started talking about dead in the water and stopped, is it because Noel was really mad about something? Noel cut you off and told you to keep going, is it okay for Noel to tell the story now?'' Noel doesn't remember this so Matt continues... Matt: Something bothered you on TV and you said, okay, I can write a better song than that, and so you wrote dead in the water, but... Noel: yeah... dead in the water is not a literal song, it's not about anything that happened, but I happen to be watching TV at night... *pause*... uh, no, I won't go into details And then, they move on. Anyway, just sharing...
It reminds me a bit of Noel's interview in supersonic when he talks about their split up in 1994 and says "I may have been trying to teach somebody a lesson and fail misserably". He must have thought this 15 years long lesson might do the trick.
In my mind this links up with your previous video which referenced Liams song referring to 16 years ago. I commented at the time that such a long term plan between Noel and Liam seems unlikely. However, having seen this video I now feel that the secret reunion theory seems a lot more convincing.
I saw Noel on that tour but after those dates… but after everything that’s happened I think Noel planned on reuniting oasis years ago but he wanted to make Liam work for it. And not just to one solo album but prove that he was dedicated enough to improve his voice and not be canceling shows. Now I just hope he wants to record new music together and I don’t see how they can’t
I think the song in general is about the loss of a life long friendship, wishing things could go back to how things were, with the dreams of how things were going to be back then being ultimately realised, as if the breakdown of the friendship never happened. Could be about Liam, or could be any other childhood friend you've drifted away from. Either way, I think it's the best NGHFB song.
Does anyone know the date he recorded at rte studio? Liam was in Dublin in July 2015. That footage of LG singing in the pub was July 2015. The plot thickens... While sitting in with some local musicians, he brought out an as-yet-untitled new tune. Some are speculating that one of the lyrics nods to his brother Noel’s Chasing Yesterday. “When I wake up and I hear you say,” he sings. “There’s no love worth chasing yesterday.”
The reasons I think Noel & Liam made up years before they let on: 1) they both matured SO SO much, if you watch interviews/PR gigs they’re off booze & drugs for the most part & they’ve settled down raising families, and interacting with the exact same radio stations & interviewers (ppl reconcile ) #2) looks like all their kids interact with each other bc they go to the same private school #3) their mum doesn’t seem too perturbed (ie: none of the “I wish they could work it out sniff sniff tears tears” nope #4) Noel is a genius & PR guru imo, he’d work out EXACTLY when it was the best financially time for them to make up publicly…..all supposition but hey 🤷♀️. And most importantly Holy Mountain is the best song in the whole wide world.
Call me crazy but Liam in "One of us" sings: "hey kid did you know, today sixteen years ago, it was you and I for the last time" They will start touring in 2025, exactly 16 years after 2009. In the videoclip there is also a shot of a door where you can read 28.08.09 so he was 100% referring to the break-up.
Wow never knew about this. Also I remember in 2019 Liam tweeted saying he would only do one more solo album before Oasis reunite, and guess what… (not counting his and Squire’a that is)
Great video 👌 I think the feud was very real for a few years, but they've been on decent terms for a while. An Oasisworld tour doesn't plan itself 😂 Honestly I don't think it's Liam in the background and they may have just used the wrong audio file for a few shows, but I do love these videos to get your mad thoughts ❤️
I do believe Dead In The Water is about Liam/Oasis, though no chance was he in the studio that day, I'm not having that. The brothers talking to each other is 12-18 months IMO. The rumours were there, last year, of Wembley dates for this year. It all just got delayed and Liam did the DM tour solo instead of the IMO originally planned Oasis DM reunion.
First! Keep it up mate. Personally have gone back recently and reappraised Liam's solo stuff and beady eye and they're way better than I remember. Stuff like the roller, soul love, flick the finger, once etc absolutely epic tracks. Haven't ever got as much into Noel Ps if anyone wants to hear songs about being a dad I just released a new video with based on a ladybird book
Have you ever done a video about the secret message in Liams videos? I remember reading something about 'this is not here' in all you're dreaming of...
I have done research on this & the topic Liam/Liem's slo-moe most of his singles releases 🎯 ☠️ squad 🏁🤺" in flu ence plain 👀 *NO-QUARTER* 👎 *VAR* it! 👁️ plain 👁️
Not a big Oasis fan (saw them at the Slane Castle 'meltdown') but I so enjoy these deep dives. I reckon they have been doing the Easter Eggs since Day 1. Great stuff!
I would say this is plausible but I think the 3rd person in the room, he’s talking to is Mike Rhodes the piano player, since Noel doesn’t usually like him to be on the camera lol
Loving the content James as always, incredible research and explanation. On a bit of a tangent, but have you ever delved into nghfb - alone on the rope? I often wonder if there is hidden context about oasis and liam in there. Keep it up mate 👍🏼
Hi Thought this song was about an old flame of his. I think the evidence stacks up that its about Liam, if you watch the lyric video you will see a photo that looks like Liam on 55 seconds.
Speaking of the "subterfuge", I've always had a sneaking suspicion that Noel was writing songs for Liam's solo albums. Especially songs like "One of Us" and "Once". I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on this theory of mine, James. Thanks for the Easter Egg insight!
I've always thought the relationship between Liam & Noel was real bjt exaggerated. Theyre not as dumb as they look, def knew how to play the media and when the time came to reunite, they could name their price. Genius.
Personally, I think you could have a point about the lyrics being a reference to Liam and Oasis. However, I think he’s just having a laugh with the sound engineers in regards to the “subterfuge” comment. Could be wrong though but it doesn’t matter…Oasis are back!! 🕺🕺🕺
Hi man, love your work. One question though, Noel recorded that song at Rte studios back in 2015, and after that 2 more albums were released (WBTM and CS). So how could he say just "one more album"?

Does anyone know the date he recorded at rte studio? Liam was in Dublin in July 2015. That footage of LG singing in the pub was July 2015. The plot thickens...
While sitting in with some local musicians, he brought out an as-yet-untitled new tune. Some are speculating that one of the lyrics nods to his brother Noel’s Chasing Yesterday. “When I wake up and I hear you say,” he sings. “There’s no love worth chasing yesterday.”
yeah i remember that, bold demo with fans
I was at the Columbus gig, and I clearly remember hearing it. I thought it was very interesting.
Not only are you are great musician and songwriter, but you're at great detective, I think your spot on with this.
Surely when he said "can we pixellate his face" he was jokingly referring to his keyboard player? surely?
The reasons I think Noel & Liam made up years before they let on: 1) they both matured SO SO much, if you watch interviews/PR gigs they’re off booze & drugs for the most part & they’ve settled down raising families, and interacting with the exact same radio stations & interviewers (ppl reconcile ) #2) looks like all their kids interact with each other bc they go to the same private school #3) their mum doesn’t seem too perturbed (ie: none of the “I wish they could work it out sniff sniff tears tears” nope
#4) Noel is a genius & PR guru imo, he’d work out EXACTLY when it was the best financially time for them to make up publicly…..all supposition but hey 🤷♀️.
And most importantly Holy Mountain is the best song in the whole wide world.
I really enjoy your videos James, I really wish criticism & study was more a thing these days.
Cast released Promised Land in 1995 and they are supporting in 2025? How far can we go with this….
the recording was done during touring chasing yesterday. so he did 2 more albums (Who Built The Moon and Council Skies)
I think he was saying not to film mike rowe's face as you don't see him on the dying of the light, but you do see the back of his head lol
As a Oasis nerd, love this vid!
One of his best written songs.
4:42 *the recording took place on 28th Feb 2015 according to the youtube recording titled: Noel Gallagher on RTÉ 2FM 28.02.2015 acoustic+interview
Interview ua-cam.com/video/c1lrKXtUbdY/v-deo.html
He played the clip to get people excited about a reunion because he was already planning it.
One of the best tunes he ever 'wrote' (well came up with on the spot according to him, and if this is the case absolutely makes it even more special
He played it on the spot but obviously wrote it previously, he didn't improvise the entire song lmao
On the Dead in the water lyric viceo from Noel, is it Liam's photograph on the second 0:55??
This would make perfect sense with James's theory
I wondered that too .. maybe it could be matched to a pic
Call me crazy but Liam in "One of us" sings:
"hey kid did you know, today sixteen years ago, it was you and I for the last time"
They will start touring in 2025, exactly 16 years after 2009. In the videoclip there is also a shot of a door where you can read 28.08.09 so he was 100% referring to the break-up.
I’ve always thought that song was about Liam particularly that line about thinking about times when they had no money.
All part of the Masterplan
Wow never knew about this. Also I remember in 2019 Liam tweeted saying he would only do one more solo album before Oasis reunite, and guess what… (not counting his and Squire’a that is)
Great video 👌 I think the feud was very real for a few years, but they've been on decent terms for a while. An Oasisworld tour doesn't plan itself 😂 Honestly I don't think it's Liam in the background and they may have just used the wrong audio file for a few shows, but I do love these videos to get your mad thoughts ❤️
Right as I’m talking to my friend about “cryptic shit” this video dropped😂
The latest Album from Noel and thevtour for it is really good, Pretty boy studio or live version is sooo good.
I do believe Dead In The Water is about Liam/Oasis, though no chance was he in the studio that day, I'm not having that. The brothers talking to each other is 12-18 months IMO. The rumours were there, last year, of Wembley dates for this year. It all just got delayed and Liam did the DM tour solo instead of the IMO originally planned Oasis DM reunion.
have seen intervies with NG saying he used to watch WWF on channel 4 smashed of his box... wonder if he was keeping kayfabe with Liam?
I'm pretty sure he's talking about the piano player who was in the studio
First! Keep it up mate. Personally have gone back recently and reappraised Liam's solo stuff and beady eye and they're way better than I remember. Stuff like the roller, soul love, flick the finger, once etc absolutely epic tracks. Haven't ever got as much into Noel
Ps if anyone wants to hear songs about being a dad I just released a new video with based on a ladybird book
Love your videos❤❤❤
Luna Park, Buenos Aires 2018, he play DOTW
Have you ever done a video about the secret message in Liams videos? I remember reading something about 'this is not here' in all you're dreaming of...
I have done research on this
& the topic
Liam/Liem's

of his singles releases

I've always thought Dead In The Water was about him and Liam. This makes it even clearer.
My favourite version I have is the Duke of Yorks theatre they did to no audience a few years back.
Amazing👍
Not a big Oasis fan (saw them at the Slane Castle 'meltdown') but I so enjoy these deep dives. I reckon they have been doing the Easter Eggs since Day 1. Great stuff!
Incredible content
That's enough UA-cam for one day I'm off to bed.
If there's video material, it's for a docu, hopefully. There are only rumors rn tho
I've always thought the relationship between Liam & Noel was real bjt exaggerated. Theyre not as dumb as they look, def knew how to play the media and when the time came to reunite, they could name their price. Genius.
Nah man, their mother seemed very distressed about it over the years. Difficult to fake the genuine bitterness Noel had towards Liam’s antics
I always thought the talking at the beginning was with David Holmes.
I suppose that there is a reason why Liam answered a tweet saying something like "this will be my last solo album" a couple of months or a year ago.
DITT was the only song that noel sang alone with a guitar between sets in his last solo tour.
Can you do a full and deep study of He Is Legend? I have been trying to figure them out for 20 years.
You’re fucking on it here James
I’ve messaged you on instagram, i have a clearer version than the one in the video.
I thought he was talking about Mike Rowe tbf.
Great video, though.
He first left Oasis in the U.S.. maybe a connection there? Also, "Sing with spirit" always cracked me up 😂
Maybe the song is about a million magic reasons. The answers in the looking glass. Big love carl mvita ❤
Personally, I think you could have a point about the lyrics being a reference to Liam and Oasis. However, I think he’s just having a laugh with the sound engineers in regards to the “subterfuge” comment. Could be wrong though but it doesn’t matter…Oasis are back!! 🕺🕺🕺
Would you interview James Mercer of The Shins your Chanel ?
Or the Kills.
Dead to the World
Dead In the Water
Good catch!
Hi man, love your work. One question though, Noel recorded that song at Rte studios back in 2015, and after that 2 more albums were released (WBTM and CS). So how could he say just "one more album"?
James, you're good.
