Once had an Oasis picture book when I was a kid in the 90's; one quote from NG that sticks out was - "You pick up your guitar, rip a few people's tunes off, swap them round a bit, get your brother in the band, punch his head in every now and then and it sells." There you go...
Ripping off the Beatles or Stevie Wonder is one thing. No one really gets hurt. But repeatedly ripping off people who helped you getting started? That takes a special kind of bastard. Classic case of biting the hand that feeds.

Is Noel supposed to apologise to Tony for his inability to hold a steady beat as a drummer and lack creativity and timing? If he was a credible talented drummer he wouldn't have been sacked in the first place.
Man, I always felt that Columbia was a total different kettle of fish from the other songs on Def-Maybe and now I know why. Especially listening to the Real People. Its totally their 1991 album vibe.
The more i read/hear about Liam,i like him more. The more i read/hear about noel,i like him less.I can’t remember the last time i heard something good about him tnh
I used to think this too but then I learned about what a great husband and dad Noel has been, in sharp contrast to Liam who pretty shamelessly neglects his kids and publicly cheated on wives 1 and 2
Sad to hear this. I always loved Noel, but if he has no sense of honesty, integrity or generosity, then I genuinely feel sad for him. His talent is not in doubt. His character and decency is what's in doubt.
Part of the appeal of Oasis when they first burst on the scene was that they all behaved exactly like a bunch of scallywags, exactly the type of people who'd steal something and pass it off as their own, step over people to achieve stardom, which is why the middle class did and still do despise Oasis. Noel has been open about stealing riffs just as he was open about getting done for shoplifting. Now we have all this handwringing about his lack of decency when he never pretended to be anything other than who he is.
Most people 45+ in Liverpool who are into music know that the Realie's & Smaller were the influence behind Oasis as well as the Roses & The Beatles and all that, it's nice to see that other people out there can now get to hear the 'truth' behind the rock n roll myths if you know what I mean? Brilliant channel & reporting James by the way
Noel admitted he steals riffs and segments of other people’s music in his songs it isn’t a secret. But Columbia and the real people is kinda shady. And the whole band bullied tony I felt really bad for him.
Was chatting to Chris and Tony on Mattew St Liverpool on sunday night...they are top blokes always have time for a chat and they are brilliant musicians.
Judging by stories like "Rolexes to the band, Rolls-Royce to Noel" it really feels like McGee has convinced Noel that he is Oasis by himself, even though they already had the sound - which they've lost when the original members left. Liam's contribution is also utterly underrated. Noel has created this image that he's a genius songwriter, but without his brother's delivery I don't think any of his songs would have been noticed. In the meantime whatever Liam sings, the tune sounds like Oasis, whether it's written by Death in Vegas or even Bob Marley. I'm also certain that Liam could have become a great songwriter with some encouragement in the early 90s and the band could have become a relatively successful indie band. On the other hand, I don't see Noel's career ever taking off without the sound, attitude and voice of Oasis.
Noel freely admits in recent interviews that he would never have got anywhere without Liam. High flying birds music is superior to Oasis in my opinion. No Liam there.
I don't really think Noel after Oasis ever pursued thesame style as Oasis. Just listen to His High flying birds sound. It's completely different than the iconic Liam style. Maybe just maybe he is just doing what he likes for his own music.
Like what the Real People said, Liam was already a Star , everywhere they went people couldn’t take there eyes off him, then his voice was amazing, never has a single man got every teenager or lad in there 20s in the country to get there hair & clothes to imitate his image , it was like what James Dean did to affect the male youth of America in the 50s, every lad wanted to be Liam not Noel .
Never heard of The Real People and just started listening to them -- wow! Real shame these guys never broke in the same way as Oasis. Even a band like James broke bigger than these guys.
To be honest I think that Noel always had this hunger of becoming a rockstar no matter what, and without that oasis would've never reached that level of fame and success. I think he was an incredible strategist. He knew that it was not going to be easy, but he also knew how to play his cards and did it great (althought that consisted on wearing masks and blend in with all kind of people , use'em and get away with it). I think that somehow , all that he did was necesary and perfect , and if you think it wasn't , Oasis music is the result of that and it speaks for itself
Your comment implies (in fact, blatantly states) that if you are hungry for success and you indeed find that success, that the ends justifies the means and all criticism is invalid. To qualify that with "the music speaks for itself" is not only an empty sentiment, it ignores the many MANY instances where Noel plagiarized other artists to find that success. ua-cam.com/video/QO5X2_2_7PA/v-deo.html It's one thing for the opening riff for C&A to sound a bit like T Rex, for the piano on DLBIA to sound very similar to Imagine, for Columbia to have the same chord progression as a techno number and WTSMG to have "tomorrow never knows" in its lyrics (which even those combined is kind of embarrassing) but to patently steal from The Real People and Stevie Wonder and excuse that as "success by any means necessary" tells me that your love of Oasis' music, which I like as well, has you shutting your eyes and ears to anything unethical. If every song was as original and iconic as Live Forever, Bring It On Down, Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova, they'd probably be the best band of the nineties. But there's too much that's questionable and blatantly stolen to ignore.
I am almost where your are, but taking a sole writing credit for a song he hardly even contributed to is as close to criminal. I wonder if they played Columbia live, much?
Great video man. The first time I heard Don’t Go Away and The real people’s song that is identical, i was mind blown. Also I never knew that Liam made the chorus for Columbia, it would’ve been cool to hear what Liam could’ve made had Noel given him a chance to do it early on.
I agree- I can’t tell you the way I feel because the way I feel is oh so new to me - is my favorite line in that song. Liam really is a good writer but constant gaslighting by his brother for decades makes him believe he’s not. Bold is an epic song. So vulnerable and real. Gaslighting is what abusive husbands do to wives, Noel did it to his brother. I think Liam understood this but decided to put up with it as a trade off for Noel doing all the business end of stuff. But every now and again Noel controlling Liam like the guest list situation would finally set Liam off. I mean imagine putting your friends on the guest list only to find out Noel took them off. That’s like dictator behavior over everyone in the band. Sociopath.
@@belleh.2955 Liam wrote the chorus for DLBIA the other band members helped produce the sound I think that Oasis was 5 people and it’s never about one person but Noel constantly makes out “he” did it all. Noel got extremely rich the rest have to work.
Yes I’m aware LIAM wrote the chorus because that info is in this video that we are commenting on and my comment is to a response about Liam writing that line. I’ve acknowledged that. Not sure why your response to me is telling me something I’m already acknowledging and also responding to in the original comment. Mercury retrograde miscommunication perhaps. But I agree w you about NG getting rich while the rest have to work. That’s a basic problem with music royalties in general. Even Nirvana faced this same problem. Thanks James, this was fascinating, and sadly unsurprising. I was given Tony McCarroll’s book as a present a few years back and have never got around to reading it. That is about to change! Thanks again
My opinion is Oasis were originally Liam's band formed with his mates. Noel was asked to come down and audition with them and play some songs that he'd written over the years. However there is a good 5 years between Liam and Noel in age and whilst Liam wanted to be a rock star Noel had already lived that life to an extend from his days working with The Inspiral Carpets. Noel didn't have the same feelings of goodwill towards Liam's mates the other members because there weren't his mates they were Liam's. To Noel they were just hired hands and ultimately Noel is quite a shrewd character. Ultimately Oasis were a vehicle to showcase his song writing skills and a way to try and get rich and his ruthlessness and occasional wickedness showed he didn't care who got in the way. An increasing ego and drug consumption probably didn't help and drugs and alcohol can often bring out the worse out in people. I'm not trying to suggest Noel is all bad mind.
Agreed Oasis was Liams band , Rain was Tony and Boneheads band we can thank Liam for Noel joining. He brought Noel to watch his band I think your right the age difference was important. Another thing Noel was finished, sacked by Inspiral carpets??
Excellent video. It's very difficult to discuss an event from the past without your own personal take on things and your own judgement, but this was very well presented and researched and it offered a great insight into how things were at the time. Thank you for your work
Fascinating.. Like others I’m a huge fan and wasn’t aware of this… great job again. Despite Noel being my all time hero, I’ve always been aware he has a dark side and he’s had his moments like this.. (Also always hated the unnecessary verbal put down against an unwell Michael Hutchence at 96 Brits)
Noel Gallagher is one of the most sued artists of all time. There are lots of compilation's of songs and ideas he's copied/stolen on UA-cam. they're well worth checking out.
He has such a great sense of humour he could’ve been a famous comedian, and he is a great songwriter on top of that. But he has lost the plot a good number of times. The hutchence thing took me back too He has lifted ideas and melodies. But that’s what makes oasis so special. Nothing good is original anyways and he knows that. Oasis is special cause they had personality and it’s all that will ever matter Shoplifters of the world unite and take over
@@markythompson Noels a magpie everyone knows that. To say he is one the most sued artists is wrong cause it isn’t true. Everyone be doing what he does if it was that easy. These lads the real people helped them at the start. It’s like messi dad probaly thought him how to kick a ball. Messi did the rest. Oasis had Liam a phenomenal front man and for the first 3 albums singer too
I had the chord book and always wondered who Chris was. What a blast from the past. The Oasis B-Side ‘Going Nowhere’ Has some of the same vibe of The Real People’s song of the same name. Great video by the way.
A brilliant video, James and a maybe a bit of restorative justice too. I really liked the bit at the end where you acknowledge that we’re all a mix of qualities and no one’s conscience is quite clear. Two things struck me, thinking it over. One was the remark you quoted near the beginning about perceived differences between Liverpool and Manchester band cultures. It’s definitely the case I think that particular places, cities say, foreground certain values at the expense of others. Some places will feel to a majority of people kinder, or more dangerous, or more fun-loving or creative than others. This has a strong bearing on how we all learn to present ourselves. On top of that there are institutions and times. It might be very important to be ‘hard’ in a cell block, but not in a refuge for victims of domestic violence. And the lad culture of the 90s has now in many peoples’ minds started to go the way of flared jeans and flat caps. So in some cultures it might be easier than in others to get away with being a bit ruthless. The second thing is hinted at in your mentions of Alan McGee and that’s career strategy. People who want fame need to make a strong impact and for that you need a very well-defined and simple image. I wonder if at some point early on Noel might have been advised to simplify the story you tell here. Of course now that Oasis is probably over and has achieved global fame, it’s possible to let some of the complexities back in. Led Zeppelin didn’t initially give credit to Willie Dixon, but later they did. Still, it’s a fascinating topic and you open it all up with you usual depth and flair. Thank you.
im so glad to hear people are talking about this again, I've been good mates with Tony and Chris for many many years, was a member of the band for a few years and spent a good few years in there studio with them helping them record a great many records with so many different artists and all that time "that cheque was on the wall the whole time". they are without a doubt the most prolific and melodically wonderful songwriters, ive heard those Reels many many times its so overwhelmingly obvious, and to be fair when the first oasis record came we all knew those songs were Realies songs its so obvious, made ever harder when knowing all the parties involved . it certainly was a shitty thing to do. Noel always seems to be a fair and although highly disagreeable he's usually jovial and fun to be around most of the time but damn would I love to see his face if Tony and Chris walked in the room, I think they are owed a sit down and a hatchet burying as one thing I know about the Griffiths brothers is they are Honest to a fault and no matter how hard they try they can't hold a grudge they are far to big hearted for that. Lets hope one day it happens
I think Noel did it specifically to retain/attain his image as the mastermind behind Oasis and the idea of having some other band take even partial credit for "his band" or "his people" was too tough for him to let go.
Another great video.. a good friend of mine convinced me to go see the real people with him a couple of years ago, he said it’s where oasis started and you’ll know what I mean when you get there, I was gob smacked how many parts of their songs featured on oasis albums, even if not directly stolen but sounded so alike, mainly from definitely maybe.
Noal is a great tallent but there's a reason I'm not into his High Flying Birds stuff but was a huge fan of OASIS. It may well be Noel who drives the genisis of these songs and gives these songs their colour and depth, but, clearly it takes a band to make them, and the sublte nuonces are as important as any other part of any song. Maybe copyright law should be changed to reflect this.
@@markythompson " hello " is a rip of a Garry glitter song you should check it out. I think the glitter song is called "hello good to be back" it's very alike. I'm a big fan of oasis and all there's solo stuff, but Noel has lifted a lot of stuff 😁
Probably McGee giving a young Noel some cut throat advice beforehand in regards to taking all the initial credit instead of sharing it with The Real People, at least that’s what I think would have happened.
maybe they also wanted to portray Noel as the “genius” single songwriter. Still seems to mostly hold true Imo. Although Noel generally lifted ideals left and right. Not that he is the only one to do so.
@@arnesl929 I used to think it was mostly true. But the more I learn about "influences" (more so people Noel copied) the more I think he didn't have too many original things to say. I think more and more will inevitably be unearthed as time goes on.
@@markythompson I agree somewhat, I personally do not consider him he genius at least not technically. And there is not much original about it. He might obviously have had a special ability to put together songs people related to, even if lifted from parts of other songs. I still think songs like live forever and don’t look back in anger will be remembered as great songs for a long time.
Discovered and loved The Real People and Rain in my mid to late teens, about 1991. Proper rootsy bands. When I heard Supersonic for the first time on the ITV chart show I thought, that's brilliant, sounds like The Real People. It does resemble the magnificent Car Outside you gotta admit. I do wonder how much of Marshmellow Lane Noel had heard in the run up to Definitely Maybe. There's such a similar sound to The Realies throughout that first album
The real people were recording marshmallow Lane around 92 I think. I'm guessing Noel heard a lot of it when they were touring with the inspiral carpets. Also Chris and Tony probably played them their songs in the studio. That album looks to have had a massive influence Noel a prime example being feel the pain which he lifted for don't go away.
Noel wanted to create the impression that he did it all on his own, I remember him saying that most of definitely maybe was written when he was working laying gas pipes!
It's really weird this situation because although all this was going on at the time, especially 1997 with Don't Go Away, Noel, ocean colour scene and the two Griffiths brother played day tripper together on a night of OCS's tour. You can notice that the Griffiths and noel don't really look at each other during the song, but I can't understand why they would play together considering what was going on.
Update. Allan McGee was on talk sport today on the white and Jordan show. So,eone write in to say the role of the Real People should be creidted. McGee strongly agreed with this.
Saw the Real People in 2002 in the bizarrest setting, opening up for Simple Minds (my guilty pleasure) at the NEC, which was about a quarter full when they were on. They were a good live band.
Great video! i think part of is it to do with the wider issue of selling the oasis myths that was so important in their early success. The myth that the band were plodding along and then noel walked in with a bunch of songs and took over the band was massive at the time. that would have been undermined by a shared songwriting credit. maybe noel had to wrestle with the truth and the creation of the legend there are many other myths involved in the creation of the band that were sold to the press and helped fuel their rise.
Noel's greatest strength looks to be his ability to schmooze with all types of people. From the scally working class lads of the council estates of the NW to the champagne sipping right on crowds of the media machines of the BBC and record labels. Without that I don't think Oasis would have got where they did. By extension neither would any band he *ahem* borrowed *ahem* lyrics or melodies from. Morally what he has done could be seen as questionable but I don't think there are many people that could have pulled together the hype machine that was Oasis the way he did and put out some choice music into the bargain.
@semajdis “could be seen as questionable” - Really? Noel Gallagher took credit for somebody else’s work and then he kicked them in the teeth. What a lowlife.
Awesome video! Great job James. A few years ago I first heard about this and went to listen to The Real People's tunes to hear how they compare to Oasis and there's some extremely close comparisons even besides the 3 songs you focused on as case studies. Really interesting to find out even more about this thanks to your video. Keep up the sleuthing!
Just wanted to say love your channel, James! Your Amsterdam Incident video was suggested to me by YT a few weeks and intrigued I watched. J, you’re spot on that in our messy lives as humans we all pause and think ‘that was a bit of a mistake’ but when Noel could have and should have…he didn’t. As he says, he’s a cat 🤷🏻♂️
Excellent video, James and really interesting as I wasn't aware of this story myself. In a way it doesn't surprise me that Noel would have done this as he always did have that dark side to his personality and maybe it was ego and greed that took over. One thing that stands out to me funnily enough about Rockin chair is the chorus sounds quite similar to the pre-chorus of Tiffany's "I think we're alone now" the "running as fast as we can" bit in that song. So perhaps he should credit Tiffany too for that one lol. Great video anyway, James as I always enjoy your Oasis analysis back story ones.
'I think we're alone now' is a cover of a 60s song by Tommy James and the Shondells. Makes sense that Noel would Rob it. It's a fair point there is some similarity.
How about Champagne Supernova and Supernova by Five Thirty? Alan Mcghee absolutely loved the song (Five Thirty's) I should know because I wrote it and he told me!
Fascinating video James.Well researched 👊👊.Had no idea Noel was capable of behaving so disrespectful towards the Real People, such a shame and a shitty thing to do😬
Cheers Jake Yeah it's always interesting getting the fuller picture of someone. He's a genius, but like many highly talented people, that genius can be used for good or bad... and is usually used for both
Listening to Feel The Pain by The Real People literally just blew my mind, and will change how I listen to Don't Go Away going forward.... although it's still an epic tune
Being an Oasis fan since Supersonic (and Yeah you can hear TRP doing the backing vocals "Aaaaggghhhsssss" on the Tune) I've heard All of this before apart from... Colombia with Liam writing the Chorus & TRP Yeah Yeah Yeah etc! Thanks James Quality upload 👌 👍
I don't like Oasis. Never have, never will. However, as someone with a general interest in bands and music history, I find these videos by James fascinating.
It must annoy the shit out of Noel that Liam is doing so well on his own without him. Liam is doing two nights at Knebworth this year and Noel not even anywhere the top of the bill at Glastonbury. The irony is sweet. When it comes to songwriting, Noel is good but he never claimed to be original only clever. The public love Liam - not Noel. Pity that Noel never gave full to The Real People, they deserve it.
@@sunsfan101981 I think Liam has reached “legendary” status for the young generation of today with his history and his public persona. Two nights at Knebworth is a big deal. Noel’s time will come again, just not this year.
..I used to be firmly on Liam's side but then I now know that Liam had been slagging off Noel's family. That's not on in my eyes. I understand Noel totally. I would do the same if someone shat on MY family like that.
@@desertrose1226 I’m a Noel man myself, he is a very talented man and I love his solo stuff especially his last album “Who built the moon” - brilliant. I don't agree with half the things Noel says or does, but I get it now. His father was a complete bastard. The abuse that guy suffered as a child is heartbreaking and the reason why Noel AND Liam have ended up how they are.Noel comes off these days as a rich and arrogant egotist but I reckon it's just a huge two fingers up to the father that abused him instead of protected him!

Concerning "Rockin' Chair": In the booklet of my edition of "The Masterplan", the song is credited to Noel Gallagher and C. Griffiths. This is printed on both the CD and the booklet. I bought the album in 2001.
I used to have the Encyclopedia of British Hit Singles ( Mike Read Johnathan King & more DJs on the cover ) printed before Britpop. There was an existing act called Oasis - a light entertainment group a bit Swingle 2 if I’m not mistaken. Had the brothers gained their approval before using the name I wonder ? It’s been said by quite a few people in the band and close to the band that Noel changed after they got the record deal. Not for the better either. The Real People were on the Definitely Maybe DVD documentary though. Never understood that considering what had happened in the past.
@@deanmurphy8915 it seems very strange to me. The Definitely Maybe documentary came out in 2004 and Tony’s book came out in 2010. The Real people interview is very recent and there’s still animosity there so I don’t know what to think. Was adding the Real People on the documentary an olive branch?? I was certainly surprised that they appeared on it.
This is old news but good to see others know of it too. Liam actually credits the real people also as 1 of his favourite bands and has mentioned them a few times to the way he was feeling at the time.
Great video James. Yeah the Real people were shafted by Noel I don't why he did it when they helped so much in the early days. On a plus side though I bet a load of Oasis fans when hearing these stories go check out the Real people back catalogue and might become fans of theirs and go and see them live. Also Tony's book is excellent I got it when it first came out and I did think at first some of the Noel bullying stories where a bit exaggerated but over the years I've changed my mind. Does anyone have a link for the song that sounds like rocking chair.
Another great video. One small nit-pick, which I may well be wrong about, is that comment from Supersonic Noel made about Tony. I interpreted that as being specifically about the manner of Tony's departure from the band which Tony has discussed many times in the past, rather than anything else that he might've written in his book. I really don't think Noel was saying that everything in Tony's book was true.
Dude you can see on some of the live performances when Noel looks at Tony but with a serious face. Idk what he is saying to him but you can pretty tell Noel was always on Tonys when playing.
im not surprised TRP got pushed to one side and weren't credited. i'd followed them until their first album, and saw them live shortly after it. they'd looked very promising, but afaik a lot of ep tracks were reused and it took the momentum out of it. not a surprising way to construct the album, as the eps were quite under the radar. NG has long pushed other's contributions or emphasised his own. i actually didn't know TRP were involved in oasis at all.
You can't be saying he could be a nice guy who had some sort of shitty spell. Noel Gallagher's been at it his entire life. Stealing songs from the people who were intrinsic to his bands everthing is not a one off scumbag move. He even stitched them up not allowing them the comparible pittance they were offered. Gallagher burgled houses you know, and talks off like it's nothing, I'm from the same sort of background, I didn't burgle my neighbours. The main reason he faded so quickly from the heights he was at is because having stolen so much of his music there was little chance he could keep doing it..... Liam got the bad press but it was his bellend brother who was the wrongun.
It’s bizarre Chris Griffiths only ever got a slight mention for Rockin’ Chair when Noel’s version is miles better. But Don’t Go Away is literally the exact same... great artists steal, but that’s just taking the piss.
I haven't followed Oasis' actions from mid 90's and don't know much about their work, but I find myself looking at my 4th video of this channel. Seems they were as troubled as Kinks, one of my favorite bands, and as in the case of Oasis much of the turmoil seems to be caused by the brothers as in Kinks. Great work!
Another outstanding video James. I had just graduated when Oasis came out, so while I really liked them, I had stopped reading NME and simply didn't know about this story. There is simply nothing worse at times than being a creative person who either gets plaigiarised or not formally acknowledged.

very interesting. . didn't realize The Real People had a role in leading the band to more mid-tempo/slow songs. Makes sense when I remember how early they had All Around the World and Don't Go Away was written. this is important since people assume Oasis lost their edge either because Noel wanted to write ballads or because the original members left. this suggests it was a more natural progression that was in the works from the beginning

I never liked either one of them and still don't, but I really liked their records in the 90s.
I love it when I see a James Hargreaves video and its over 20 minutes long. grap a cuppa and a snack and relax
Most people 45+ in Liverpool who are into music know that the Realie's & Smaller were the influence behind Oasis as well as the Roses & The Beatles and all that, it's nice to see that other people out there can now get to hear the 'truth' behind the rock n roll myths if you know what I mean?
Brilliant channel & reporting James by the way
The Real People debut album is bloody fantastic, brilliant lyrics and melodied - classic to the right (real) people...
Got a signed copy of one of their albums, saw them live in Derby 1990
@kevvcop Nah, I doubt Liam could ever write this eloquently, even through English is my second language :)
@@samuraininjarockstar9355exactly all bands have got one guy that all the kids idolize and Liam was that to Oasis

What do you mean even a band like James? James did some really great songs.
James is good but the real people are miles ahead of him. Their back catalogue is amazing
They supported OCS a few times
To qualify that with "the music speaks for itself" is not only an empty sentiment, it ignores the many MANY instances where Noel plagiarized other artists to find that success.
ua-cam.com/video/QO5X2_2_7PA/v-deo.html
It's one thing for the opening riff for C&A to sound a bit like T Rex, for the piano on DLBIA to sound very similar to Imagine, for Columbia to have the same chord progression as a techno number and WTSMG to have "tomorrow never knows" in its lyrics
(which even those combined is kind of embarrassing)
but to patently steal from The Real People and Stevie Wonder and excuse that as "success by any means necessary" tells me that your love of Oasis' music, which I like as well, has you shutting your eyes and ears to anything unethical.
If every song was as original and iconic as Live Forever, Bring It On Down, Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova, they'd probably be the best band of the nineties.
But there's too much that's questionable and blatantly stolen to ignore.
@@michaelmcdonald8452 I am a fan of Noel & generally would shrug & say that’s life, but the Columbia thing does look behind the Pale.

Sociopath.

Thats a good analysis of how noel probably felt towards the rest of the band. It was liams band and liams mates.

Hey James I found your channel by pure chance and I have to say bro you are very entertaining to listen too. I'm loving what you are doing keep it up.

I think Noel did it specifically to retain/attain his image as the mastermind behind Oasis and the idea of having some other band take even partial credit for "his band" or "his people" was too tough for him to let go.

Probably McGee giving a young Noel some cut throat advice beforehand in regards to taking all the initial credit instead of sharing it with The Real People, at least that’s what I think would have happened.
There's an excellent chance McGee told Noel to "use some ideas" from the Real People because he knew Oasis would be more popular.

The myth that the band were plodding along and then noel walked in with a bunch of songs and took over the band was massive at the time. that would have been undermined by a shared songwriting credit. maybe noel had to wrestle with the truth and the creation of the legend
there are many other myths involved in the creation of the band that were sold to the press and helped fuel their rise.

Dude you can see on some of the live performances when Noel looks at Tony but with a serious face. Idk what he is saying to him but you can pretty tell Noel was always on Tonys when playing.
@@FusionKush Oh yeah, he didn't like Tony one bit, I'm not sure anyone would disagree with that.
im not surprised TRP got pushed to one side and weren't credited. i'd followed them until their first album, and saw them live shortly after it. they'd looked very promising, but afaik a lot of ep tracks were reused and it took the momentum out of it. not a surprising way to construct the album, as the eps were quite under the radar.
Completely agree he does not speak to his brothers either but Liam is doing well on his own which is great
Enjoyed that James
Cheers james really enjoyed that great video yet again keep up the good work and more power to you moving forward GEZZER MAN
The end segment is very Jerry Springer - but very apt, true and well said. Great video. Again.
It’s bizarre Chris Griffiths only ever got a slight mention for Rockin’ Chair when Noel’s version is miles better. But Don’t Go Away is literally the exact same... great artists steal, but that’s just taking the piss.
Some of your best stuff James really enjoy this
explains why they went downhill after two albums - thanks for the content...
Good stuff James but with great source material like that you can’t go wrong!
Hahahahahaha true true
I haven't followed Oasis' actions from mid 90's and don't know much about their work, but I find myself looking at my 4th video of this channel. Seems they were as troubled as Kinks, one of my favorite bands, and as in the case of Oasis much of the turmoil seems to be caused by the brothers as in Kinks. Great work!
Another outstanding video James. I had just graduated when Oasis came out, so while I really liked them, I had stopped reading NME and simply didn't know about this story. There is simply nothing worse at times than being a creative person who either gets plaigiarised or not formally acknowledged.
95% of successful people are ruthless, it goes hand in hand.
Your videos are brilliant James mate 👍 keep the hard work up pal loving your channel one of the best oasis based channels on UA-cam my friend , from a fellow mad for it oasis geezer live forever pal 🤝🙏😎
Good to see your interview with TT, I do narration for them sometimes.
Hey TC - thanks for joining the channel!
If you pop over to the Community tab on my YT page there are 2 members only posts with news, and a request for suggestions for the name of the new EP :)
All the best 👍👍
very interesting. . didn't realize The Real People had a role in leading the band to more mid-tempo/slow songs. Makes sense when I remember how early they had All Around the World and Don't Go Away was written. this is important since people assume Oasis lost their edge either because Noel wanted to write ballads or because the original members left. this suggests it was a more natural progression that was in the works from the beginning
