As far as I know, Mr Collins head has not been severed. Nor is it laying proudly in Noel's fridge. Therefore, by his own admission, Noel Gallagher is a failure!
I think Noel sort of missed the bit where he ceased to be the anti-establishment and became, well and truly, the establishment. Beyond that point, his bizarre compulsion to slag off the old guard, which some may have found vaguely charming when it was a cheeky upstart tilting at windmills, had lost any semblance of “punching up” and just looked like the weird and graceless bullying of elders that, in truth, it always was.
At least when Johnny Rotten did it, he was original. This Gallagher clown is just copying others' ideas. Was it him or his idiot brother who boorishly tried proclaiming they were bigger than god?
I'm a Noel fan, but have to say I agree with you here. The ceaseless punching down on elder musicians doesn't have the sense of youthful rebellion it once did. Not coming from a 57-year-old multi-millionaire.
Yes for years he was the drummer and backing singer for Genesis before Peter Gabriel left the band. People forget this. He was blamed for changing Genesis by becoming the singer but it was the late 70s and 80s that changed Genesis. Yes and Pink Floyd changed too.
I do believe that Noel and Phil both will be regarded as legendary songwriters. Look at how Oasis' reunion is selling and how excited other artists were that Oasis got back together.
Collins was a world class drummer, his work with Genesis shows this. He also drummed for everybody during his time, the likes of Clapton, Mark Knopfler, Peter Gabriel, Led Zepplain etc. He was a go to guy and very trusted. Collins himself said that he was a drummer who could sing, he never saw himself primarily as a singer.
Phil Collins gets a lot of disrespect from a number of sources historically. The guy was a fantastic drummer, song writer and front man. May be it's an age thing but the older I get the more I appreciate his music.
I have always liked him but preferred him with Genesis to his solo singles. He was a workaholic in the 80s and 90s and wanted to still make music when Genesis was having time off. Mike Rutherford had formed Mike and the Mechanics but wasn't the singer as he couldn't sing as well.
The best part is that Phil was out there touring in a transit van while the Gallaghers were still in their nappies! Years of living out of a suitcase & collecting green shield stamps were the rock n roll foundation of his later success. The Gallagher bros think they invented rock n roll, but sadly, they've only re-gurgitated 60's music & gave it a punk edge. Throw in a bit of Uk flag waving and it sells. The price of their re-union tickets signifies that they too have become over-bloated and out-of-touch, everything they once thought about PC. Whatever anyone thinks of Phil Collins solo singles, he was one of the top ten drummers in the world, no question.
Oasis lost touch and lost their way long before this reunion. 2000's era Oasis were mostly bloated, irrelevant and sub-mediocre as a whole. They were only ever good in the 90's.

To be fair Phil Collins is easily a musical tier above the likes of Noel. Not only was he a tremendous drummer and then singer for Genesis, his solo career was huge. I like Oasis but Noel is pretty much a one trick pony when it comes to musicality.
The thing about Phil is that he's a world respected musician, one of the top best selling artists of all time, done everything, played with everyone, spent ten years writing hit song after hit song after hit song, was the only person to play Live Aid on two continents and played a bum chord in front of millions of people. He produced or played on most of the greatest albums of the eighties, kept a second band going in Brand X, he's the most covered artist in rap, one of the greatest drummers to ever live, an electric performer, incredibly powerful singer, has won Grammys and Oscars, acted in films, raised well adjusted and talented kids despite his marital problems, saved Eric Clapton from drugs overdose, saved almost everyone who went through a bad breakup with his music, and is a multi multi millionaire. But when he talks, he's the most down to earth, gentle, decent cockney bloke who just enjoys making a bit of music with his mates, who became a singer completely by accident, who worked with everybody because he gets on with everybody and never let fame go to his head, and who works non stop because he's a workaholic to the point that he did the entire last Genesis tour on sticks because he can barely walk any more. I dunno about 'feud' noel ran his mouth off with some crappy comments Phil Collins seemed bemused by it all and kept his cool and Noel later backtracked on his comments? Phil Collins a truly great musician & singer. People love Phil Collins! Look at his sales figures ha ha, a worldwide star....
It's kind of a compliment really. To take the top spot you have to topple the king. I'm not a huge Phil Collins fan but he was definitely riding high in the 80s (as was Sting) and Noel clearly saw them as the ones to beat. But they are all brilliant artists in their own right and longevity is the proof of the pudding.
I LOVE Oasis, I'm a fan who has scrap books of their newspaper cuttings for God sake. However, I always thought Noel was stupid saying what he did about Phil Collins. Collins has produced some incredible music and is a phenomenal talent. Noel was just using school boy bullying tactics to try to goad Collins and cause a few headlines. It's an example of Noel being a bit of a bell end really.
I am reading Phil Collins biography Not Dead Yet and the reason he had so many hits was that he was a workaholic. While working in Genesis, he was in Brand X, plus he made his own records and toured as the drummer for Eric Clapton and Robert Plant and did many other projects like the Prince’s Trust. He also left England to live with his wife/Ex-wife and child who live in Switzerland.
Noel Gallagher or Oasis could never put on a live show even a quarter as good as Phil solo or Genesis, he’s no where near their league and I think it’s actually jealousy like a lot of the artists were to Phil Collins, Gallagher talks out his ass
@@neilwilliams4420 if I remember during one of their Wembley gigs and Liam was balling things up noal said to the crowd,if you want something professional go watch Genesis 😊
People can rant about Phil all they want. But why not pick up some sticks and play the whole of Suppers Ready or the Lamb. I'm sure Noel was just a publicity genius. Doing a bit of Johnny Rotten to an eager press in the 90's. It was all about celebrity gossip back then. Noel is way too intelligent to criticise Phil on technical ability. I just think he enjoyed getting a rise out of people. Made good copy.
Very intelligent, balanced and well-researched thank you. A very interesting story you've given us. I think it would benefit Noel Gallagher to apologise to a few people for the unkind things he's said about them...whether he was under the influence or not. Too bad he didn't do that with Michael Hutchence.
As an Oasis fan and a Collins fan, I think Noel was confusing the fact that 'Town Called Malice' nicked the main hook from the Supreme's 'You Can't Hurry Love' ... that was the only link with The Jam...
I'm totally with him on Sting - During Quadrophenia he said he thought Paul Weller was unoriginal and the whole mod revival was outaded - which is ironic coming from a man who forged a career making anodyne cod reggae. Mod culture and style has been the bedrock of British music and fashion for 60 years.
this is a good, balanced analysis. I don’t reckon the Noel-Phil Collins thing, was ever that serious… just mostly throwaway banter. From two English musicians.
Whereas the thing with Blur was obviously a concocted marketing ploy I don't think you can say this was the same. Noel didn't like Phil's music, which is fine, he's entitled to his own opinion, but it does seem he went on about it a bit too much, and the story about being in the bar in Mustique I think says it all. Just no need for it imo, just keep quiet. Maybe he was stoned every time he comments but just let it go. I did find it obnoxious how often they this, not just about Collins, but many artists. Love their music but as people not so much.
Gallagher shows he's been infected by all that Red Wedge crap from the mid 1980s after Neil Kinnock gave that group of youth brainwashing commies. an office in labour party HQ.
Since Noel acknowledges he will end up looking like Phil, I’m looking forward to the day when he can still sell out stadiums and arenas while unable to play his instrument, or sing properly, or even stand up for the performance, while still receiving rapturous love and applause. Following the 2-decade character assassination by the British media and people like Noel, it warms my heart to see the ticket buying public show their enduring love for this man regardless
Some people hate Oasis for the same reason that others hate Phil Collins. Both seemed to be absolutely everywhere during their respective peak decades (the 90s and the 80s), so now their haters see them as avatars for everything that they hated about those decades.
I've always liked Phil Collins as well as Oasis. "In the Air Tonight" is an iconic tune to me. And with Phil's health problems, it'd be nice if Noel could say a kind word or two about Collins. Doubt it will happen, though. Top-notch video as always.
The egos have landed! I don't really care about their spat, but Noel Gallagher has a sense of humour and Phil Collins doesn't, so I'm more interested in listening to Gallagher's chat. Also, deriding the "boring old farts" wasn't new. Punk bands did it in 1976, referring to "Emerson Lake and Parker" (sic) as dinosaurs. It's just the natural arrogance of youth speaking and I'm OK with it.
As a Phil fanboy, I need to make the note that if all you know by Phil is In The Air Tonight or Tarzan, I implore to just look up "Genesis - In The Cage Medley 1984" and let it run. I can blast You Can't Hurry Love as much as I can Cigarettes & Alcohol, we exist!!😂
I didn't like the way the eighties seemed to be just about making money and didn't buy any Phil Collins solo records but i have Genisis records and I think he's got a good voice, much better than either of the Gallaghers. He was also a great drummer with Genesis. I used to like Oasis as the music was ok to listen to but i don't think they're a patch on Genesis musically. I think typically people who have nothing to prove don't need to go mouthing of about others and just let their work speak for itself. Phil Collins proved himself in the seventies so i kind of think if he want's to make some money why not I mean he's not Rick Astley, people dont have to buy it. Oasis set out to make money copying the Beatles so it's not like they were just in it for the art. I was kind of dissapointed their tour sold out so quickly as I don't think they're that good. Phil Collins had at least the decency to say he quite liked Oasis recerds.
His facial expression after saying was funny too...I mean how can one like her!? She sings depressing songs over a bass and beat and dresses dumpy!? And has a weird relationship with her brother...I don't see the appeal!
Oasis was the start of whining as a music style. F*** I hate wonderwall. I don't know any other of their tunes because I turned the radio off because I couldn't stand the whining How can you whine so hard, and that's your music style? Just whining.
Phil was an amazing drummer in Genesis and in demand by many others at the time. His material with both Genesis and solo created much of the soundtrack of the 80/90 for many. He was an amazing performer, drummer and song writer and an incredible talent. Much greater than Noel will ever be.

Phil Collins is a good guy, down to earth and you could have a chat with him over a pint
The one hit wonders are no match for Phil
It helps to remember Noel is a tosser who got lucky as a plagiarist who reworked the sixties and seventies .
Oasis was one hit wonder
Oasis is McDonalds music
I could see tiffs starting to brew between the Gallaghers on tour and Noel telling Liam to save the row for their airport or press conference.
So Collins figuts back and Noel wimps out and backs down. Lol
Very intelligent, balanced and well-researched thank you. A very interesting story you've given us. I think it would benefit Noel Gallagher to apologise to a few people for the unkind things he's said about them...whether he was under the influence or not. Too bad he didn't do that with Michael Hutchence.
Obviously Noel never heard selling england by the pound❤
Very smart of you to add that "so far" at the end of the title
Noel hates any band or solo artist that knows more than 5 chords.
More than 3
As an Oasis fan and a Collins fan, I think Noel was confusing the fact that 'Town Called Malice' nicked the main hook from the Supreme's 'You Can't Hurry Love' ... that was the only link with The Jam...
it doesnt it steals its hook from :ready for love" by martha reaves and the vandallas. and once you hear it you will know.
Heard about GENESIS Noel .? Make OASIS look like amateurs .
Phils played with all the greats and cannot be knocked. Its was just noel trying to be punk in the early days and be a rebel
Another great video James
I'm totally with him on Sting - During Quadrophenia he said he thought Paul Weller was unoriginal and the whole mod revival was outaded - which is ironic coming from a man who forged a career making anodyne cod reggae. Mod culture and style has been the bedrock of British music and fashion for 60 years.
Oasis was inspired by the Jam who in turn were inspired by the early Who. So with Oasis it's a mod revival revival.
this is a good, balanced analysis.
Noel Gallagher is Irish.
@@folksurvivalHe didn't look very Irish with that Union flag guitar.
Gallagher shows he's been infected by all that Red Wedge crap from the mid 1980s after Neil Kinnock gave that group of youth brainwashing commies. an office in labour party HQ.
@@THEJAM-EATERSMeans nothing
I wonder how labour s working for Liam now?
My 2 favourite bands, Oasis and Genesis. What a conflict of interest !
I am a big Oasis fan, but the way Noel Gallagher treated Phil Collins, especially in Mustique, was disgraceful.
Phil Collins is my boy. But to be fair who calls a band ‘Wet wet wet’. That’s like calling a band ‘Bland bland bland’.
You've obviously never got a woman wet then. :) Only joking, but wet surely has very different connotations to bland.
Noel slagged off George Michael for not coming out in the 89’s. Bit of a nasty cu🤡nt back in the day
Liam loved George Michael
It was difficult to come out in the 80s.
Monobrow is a bit of a weapon. He's also a Starmer fan-boy apparently. 🤣
Thank you for this video. I love both Oasis and Phil (and Genesis), I don't care if they always hated each other, I love their music.
@@willyc.8141 as it should be
Professional jealousy is a terrible thing.
Noel is still bitter that Phil wouldn’t let him polish his shoes once in 1982. Phil was just trying to be respectful.
I'm sure Phil Collins is laughing about the 10s of millions more records he's sold compared to Oasis.
"Can't Hurry Love" is a cover of an old Supremes song.
i wondered who would replace blur in the marketing campaign called Feud of the Bands 2024 edition. the PRRRRESS loves it
Some people hate Oasis for the same reason that others hate Phil Collins.
Both seemed to be absolutely everywhere during their respective peak decades (the 90s and the 80s), so now their haters see them as avatars for everything that they hated about those decades.
Massive Indie guitar fan, but Phil Collins has always been a fantastic musician
I've always liked Phil Collins as well as Oasis. "In the Air Tonight" is an iconic tune to me. And with Phil's health problems, it'd be nice if Noel could say a kind word or two about Collins. Doubt it will happen, though. Top-notch video as always.
Great video, James and you beat me to it by using the favourite dinosaur line about Phil Collins. 😂
I’ve always said that’s why Noel didn’t like Tony in the original line up, Tony looked up to Phil Collins 👀
I like Phil Collins music.
Dunno why Noel needs to be like that? Phils a person and not a bad guy
Frankly Noel Gallaghers achievements and musical talents falls woefully short of Collins’.
I didn't like Phil's music back in the 80's and I don't like it now, but the Gallagher brothers are total a-holes.
Brilliant video James! I guess Noel doesn't realise a majority of people are laughing at him, not.....etc
"Take Me Home" by Phil Collins is unbelievably good!
Noel is an hilarious guy. But Phil Collins created some all time great singles, as well as being one of the Top 3 drummers in History.
Nevertheless, Phil’s a bit gay though, isn’t he?
Thank you for your content. Peace and love
Phil is probably a better guitarist than parker
As a Phil fanboy, I need to make the note that if all you know by Phil is In The Air Tonight or Tarzan, I implore to just look up "Genesis - In The Cage Medley 1984" and let it run.
I can blast You Can't Hurry Love as much as I can Cigarettes & Alcohol, we exist!!😂
Noel did say in one of his Q&As with Matt Morgan that a song he likes from an artist he hates is ‘In the Air Tonight’ Phil Collins
Name a tune of Noel, without oasis, I cant
best short comment that sums it all 💪
The Right Stuff.
Phil’s alright, but he’s certainly a bit gay.
Holy Mountain
Noel is the modern day Phill Collins and Liam is the modern day Val Doonican
😂😂😂😂😂
@lcc8394 Val Doonican has more talent than Liam
@lcc8394. And Dave Grohl is the modern Max Bygraves.
James you are always spitting facts, especially about Billie being the anitchrist of music🤣🤣
It might help if Noel recognised Collins part in the Prog Rock movement of the late sixties, which was a bit more inovative than rock and roll.
I've been waiting for this one! So, is Noel actually a David Essex or Men at Work fan?
I remember back in the day of Melody Maker, the Jam had 7 songs in the charts.
They used to show the top 75 back then .
I think the critique of Collins is a bit unfair but Collins standing in for Lennon was a hideous idea.
This was brilliant good watching ✔️
A lot of people forget Phil was one of the greatest rock drummers ever long before he started singing. Massive talent
The Billie Eilish comment made me smile.
His facial expression after saying was funny too...I mean how can one like her!? She sings depressing songs over a bass and beat and dresses dumpy!? And has a weird relationship with her brother...I don't see the appeal!
Oasis was the start of whining as a music style. F*** I hate wonderwall. I don't know any other of their tunes because I turned the radio off because I couldn't stand the whining
How can you whine so hard, and that's your music style? Just whining.
Phil was an amazing drummer in Genesis and in demand by many others at the time.
His material with both Genesis and solo created much of the soundtrack of the 80/90 for many.
He was an amazing performer, drummer and song writer and an incredible talent. Much greater than Noel will ever be.
The streets won't forget the DJ called "Pill Collins"
The South Park creators also hate Phil Colllns, lol.
And seem to love Peter Gabriel, hilariously enough.
