Kung Fu means "good skill". There is two types of kung Fu. Traditional Kung Fu, where you learn about Chinese swords and forms. And there is the sport, called Sanda (is like mma)
As a practitioner of both old school and modern taekwondo, I prefer this one. The recent armors used had "sensitivity" issues that's why players nowadays are like walking ballet dancers. This armor is like old school, BUT NO BIAS.
Jason Menso you’re right it has been commercialized a lot. It’s turned into something a bit different since 2008. With 2020 armor it’s making it even more different.
Well this is like old school but has a modern taste. Imagine the good old days where in order to win you must be eye-catching and doing all the fancy stuffs eventhough you weren't hitting anything. It's called AUDIENCE IMPACT. That's why they made electronic armors to avoid biases. BUT, DUE TO ITS SENSITIVITY ISSUES, THESE ELECTRONIC ARMORS HAD SENSORS WHEREIN YOU CAN'T EXERT TOO MUCH POWER BECAUSE IT WON'T BE COUNTED. But now, these 2020 armors will do the trick. Mix of old school (because it requires power) and modern (it will avoid biased scoring systems)
We have 4 of these at my Dojang now. Very fun, will be utilized more once the the restrictions on contact die down (we are keeping 6 foot distance in class right now so no pad sparring yet)
i want someone to hit it full power and see how much damage you do, cos that weak little kick took like 1/4 of the health bar i feel like 1 full shot and the bar is completely gone
@@DevilDogMartialArts- I don't know who, what or how you practice TKD but believe me in DR we really put lots of substance into our fighting and training
fernando mock that’s good to hear. There aren’t many legitimate fighting tkd schools left. Admittedly ITF is better about that. All the wtf and ata schools seem to be focused on flash demos, daycare belt factories, or olympic sport schools.
fernando mock also, and I’m not saying your school is like this, but many tkd students I talk to who say they do legitimate fighting tkd, when I ask about their training, all they do is forms and one steps. They don’t spar. They don’t know how to use their hands very well. They don’t know how to deal with leg kicks, clinches, or takedowns. So while they think they are legit because they train hard, they have huge knowledge gaps
Hey Alex Wong, would you mind telling us how to do a pro-wrestling dropkick (Aka a double leg sidekick)? I know it's WILDLY impractical for any use outside of performance but cmon- it looks super cool and would be an awesome way to dunk on an opponent in a sparring match
@@Kamingo170 there's like him and that Australia guy van roon. No one else teaches as much as a jab, it's kicks till you get too close then a spazzy flurry of bad punches

Wow, that looks awesome, I bet they could also be used by some one practicing other martial arts not just TKD like the punching bag with the sensor lights
Not really, the heavy bag is used mostly to improve your strength with the punches, not reaction time or points scored, maybe for a speed bag... but I'm not sure how well that could work.
Pesky Macaw you could use the same concept on a heavy bag but it’d be gimmicky Others tools of course exist to already develop the other skills though so really just not worth it
There's one thing i don't understand. Will the armour life bar determine if im ko like a video game? What if my life bar is zero but im still healthy n ready to keep going? In a fight championship i'd like to give my all as long as i can still walk... It'll b frustrating if i'd have to just stop cuz the armour would decide that at my place. :/

I think its ok, its very gimmicky but it looks fun. For training it would be cool to test the power of your class etc, and a fun sparring game and I think it could encourage a less flick style of fighting focusing on getting clean hard shots instead of weak taps if the power bars are scaled correctly cos you take some damage even if you block but in comp definitely dont have the display on the hogu and matches need to be fought till KO or health bar runs out, decisions with this would be a really stupid idea. I like the emphasis on actually making sure your kicks do damage, thats a step in the right direction but the system needs tweeking.
captain beaver_man- I have some good news and some bad news. We finally got the price of the gear UP to a sustainable level. So except for special events, it is what it is. But we have headgear coming out this year! Will start shipping to pre-order customers in the 4th quarter.
I don't think it should be, at least in it's current state. But some of its concepts are good. I think points should still be awarded, but by the amount of force. EX. 200 J = 3 points and etc.
This is really cool but stupid expensive. A grand for a couple of high tech chest protectors is a bit too rich for my blood. It’s a fun gimmick but that’s it.

Alex, I really like how your UA-cam personality has developed, and thank you for the excellent videos 👍

Personally I think 2020 armor is cool via training only. I don’t think it should be the next electronic Hogu. They’re like video game lives.
The only issue I have is that these shields are very expensive and it seems like every year we need to buy new gear. The sport is very commercialised.

Those kicks may look weak but they actually hurt a lot it only looks weak because TKD fighters have a faster way of executing kicks
I'm not a fan of armor but this looks like it would be fun to use with that 2 player game mode

My only thought is, what happens if you kick that module at the top of the chest gear?
It doesn't hurt i think so. And the display is really tough. Cause they even tested by running over a car and its still stood up
