  • Concerned about changes that resulted from the introduction of electronic monitoring/scoring systems to Taekwondo, the founders of 20/20 Armor looked to fighting games as inspiration as to how to better refine a scoring system for martial arts. The result is an electronic chest guard that syncs between competitors and tracks both time and “damage” via a meter that is effectively a life bar- and our own Dan Riskin tested it out for you in studio!

You should do head gear for this too if possible, that way you can tell if someone is sparring way too hard or not (kickboxing/boxing/mma ect..)
For me personally I sometimes find people have no control when sparring and this is great for body shots and you can hit a lot harder to the body but when sparing with headshots some people still like to unload their strikes and a headgear set up would tell you that someone is using more power then they say they are..
Example: have someone hit the gear on a dummy first at their max power then when in sparring set a 50%/70% rule and if they exceed that the bars light up and its a foul or something along those lines.

Great question. The vest works for both para and able bodied athletes!

Sorry but what is the real purpose of this?
1-Isn’t it a bad practice to take your eyes off you opponent’s face during fight? Won’t that introduce a bad habit of doing so? As a black belt, you should know that this is a very bad idea.
2-How will this light be seen by spectators if the idea is to make it easier for those who watch and not know the changing rules?
3-How would this make an athlete better? I see the technology more of a kicking pad or punching bag technology to show kick power, but I can’t see how will this bring benefit to the person that buys it? I buy it so that my opponent enjoys the light when they kick me?
4-This technology would be useful if it is able to know “what type of kick” was kicked (like 360 or back kick etc) and this is impossible with current technology.
5-Taekwondo is an expensive sport to begin with. Is this really ideal for people/parents who can barely afford the rest of the costs to be faced with yet another cost that is not really needed?
So again, what is the real benefit of this expensive Protector? I am serious, why would anyone want to buy it for themselves?
Sorry i am not trying to shoot down your product, but I practiced Taekwondo for decades and I can’t see how this will help any athlete! Old school taekwondo that we love did not have lights on protectors. You guys are killing this sport even more!

jaja papa. In the current taekwondo with the KPNK system people take their eyes off their opponent to see the score bored, with this system you don’t need to take your eyes off the opponent, you can if you want.
      2. The health bar can be shown on a computer monitor in tournaments so the spectator can see it.
      3. Your third argument didn’t even make sense. This chest protector can show the health bar of you and your opponent and will go down with the amount of kicks and power of the kicks etc, it also has a different setting where you can change it so you can test your power kicks, tell me how that isn’t useful? Are you saying that KPNP does that? No, the KPNK system regardless of the power of the kick will count a point as a point either hard or not, now tell me how that makes a Taekwondo athlete better?
      4. It’s funny how you say that the technology would only be useful if it was able to tell what kick it was when KPNP doesn’t even do that. Like how is number four even a valid argument.
      5. I like how you say that these chest protectors make the sport even more expensive when the KPNP system is very expensive, like for example you need the chest protector which is around 800 can dollars, you need the monitors which are another like 800can you need the KPNP instep pads for the sensores etc, with this you literally only need the chest protector and if you want you can have the monitors in tournaments so the spectators can see the health bars better.
I like how you say why would anyone wanna buy this for themselves when no one buys the KPNP chest protectors for themselves like come on now, bruh. The KPNP chest protectors are provided at tournaments and team trainings, why would it be any different with these chest protectors.
In my opinion these will bring back some of the old style Taekwondo with the argument that KPNP has about not being prone to human error. Furthermore, arguably these are more cost efficient and waste less resources.

Even though I agree with you in some points, In general you’re not being reasonable, relax no one Is forcing you to buy this product. The technology indeed es not enough, Im guessing its due to lower cost even though it is already very expensive. But its a good pinpoint for the next generation of innovators to bring is better prototypes, lets also hope there less greedy lol

@@javierarana2349 KPNP can track how much power you use. Maybe not very precise but you have to hit a certain threshold before the point counts.

Why would you look at your opponent's face? They're not gonna be headbutting you, but their arms and legs are gonna be hitting you.
