My local fish store sells them for $2 a piece and they have become my all time favorite fish to keep. Just got my first batch of fry 3 days ago and they started exploring today!
Mine are $3. I can't get them to eat though. I'm trying API sinking pellets and tetramin crisps, dried bloodworms and mysis shrimp soaked in garlic, but nothing. One just up and disappeared today. I'm pretty he was killed by the other, but they seemed to get along before? Such confusing fish
I love these fish. I keep them in my living room and whenever I watch brightly colored cartoons like South Park, family guy or American dad, they start croaking like crazy and watching the screen
FYI, I have 6 sparkling gourami in a 10 gallon tank with pea sized Angel fry, and I just watched one of the gourami pick off a little Angel fry, admittedly a bit on the runty side. But definitely bigger than would fit in its mouth. Attacked it, then disappeared onto the Java moss with the fry in its mouth. I had initially put them in the tank to take care of a hydra issue I was having due to feeding live baby brine to the Angel fry. I watched for 2 weeks but didn’t see any noticeable decline in the hydra. So I ended up going with the dog dewormer treatment. Hydra 100% eradicated in 2 days.
Just added some of these guys to my 55g planted tank and already they're my favorite fish! They're absolutely beautiful and VERY social! I have them with a neon blue dwarf gourami, neon tetras, ember tetras, Cory Cats and snails.
Thank you for this. I have 9 in a moderately planted 20 long along with 15 pygmy cories, 5 male endlers, and 5 pea puffers. The gouramis and cories all hid in a back corner, never saw them. Moved them and cories into a 10 gal with lots of driftwood, plants, and floating frogbit. After 2 days everyone is out and happy! Thank you for helping me fall in love with them again!!💗💗💗
Thanks for this video, really informative and it's great to hear from someone who keeps these successfully with placid fish in harder water. A lot of care guides make it seem nearly impossible to keep these in a community without them bullying or getting bullied.
Excellent video and information as always. For anyone who may be hesitant about ordering fish from Flip Aquatics, don’t be. I have ordered fish twice (4 types) and never had an issue. They do a quarantine of two weeks, and it shows.
i just got mine today!! 5 beautiful babies, they are very shy so i added some anubias to float in their tank. i saw one of them eating a blood worm so i think they start to like it in the tank. They are in a 15g with 3 baby black headed badis and a bunch of endler fry. I love their blue eyes
I love these fish. I have 10 of them in a 40 gallon. They are one of the most interesting fish to watch with all their amazing colors. They love ferns. I have a 2ft ferns and they spend all day in it.
Trying to look at sparkling gourami videos as I have one in my nano tank, this video helped me understand them a bit. Pretty interesting that it is actually a bit aggressive and territorial (he claimed the bottom area where the plants and rocks are). It killed one male guppy and now chasing all the neon tetras, but never even bothered the gold minnows and otocinclus. I guess they don't like colourful ones. He is a shy type, always hiding under the leaves, but he is definitely the king of the tank.
They're definitely jumpers and you need a lid for sure. My sparkling gouramis managed to jump out of the tank despite the only opening on the lid being for the filter!
I absolutely love mine! Takes food really easily, too. I agree that they like a lot of cover with plants so they don't feel scared. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for that, I was looking for something to go with my sparkling gourami. I'm really pleased I can put CPDs these with them. I've got 6 pepper Corys with my four and a Borneo loach.
@@leo2o915 seen ppl keep them with all kind of shrimp check foo the flowerhorn's yt channel he kept them together for quite a long time. Like you I had my sparkling gouramis with the pea puffer. All three fish; the two gouramis and one pea puffer, live for more than 4 yrs. The oldest gourami lived shy under 5 yrs. It grew up with a rival male as juvenile fish together; I eventually let the pea puffer join them since they ate the same food and were the same size. The two gouramis were sort of best friends, when one of them died the remaining one actually searched for him for weeks. I tried to house 2 more sparkling gouramis with him but he didn't even bother with them, not even when the younger ones would try to display. He eventually died more than one month after the other one.
I have 1 male and 2 females in a 29 gallon heavily planted. I also have 9 Pygmy Cory and plan on adding 15 CPDs. Would these guys fight with scarlet badis ?
I live in Texas and lost power during the cold weather last week. My pea puffer/otocinclus catfish tank got nuked in the cold so I'm redoing the tank and got a couple of sparkling gouramis today. Pretty cool fish. They're crazy small but have an independent exploratory nature. I'm going to move my pygmy corydoras in there pretty soon and make it a tank with only super small fish.
I have a 90 gallon tank and was wondering if I could fit an opaline gourami, honey gourami and also a sparkling gourami. Its pretty heavy planted at the moment I just really like them all lol

How are they with the pea puffers? I have two with them being the only fish other than a few khuli loaches that i only really see at night time playing in the bubbles from the air stone, and a small colony of cherry shrimp. I want to add some color, and was thinking of adding a sparkling gourami, but have been told by some people that the puffers would pick them off. Hearing you keeping them together makes me want to try it, although my only alternate would be my daughter's tank that she has three guppies in, as our other tanks are a tiger barb tank, a Betta tank, and a South American cichlid tank. It is a VERY heavily planted tank, and i just moved some tetras out of my puffer tank into my cichlid tank, and while they were there i can say the puffers never tried to nip at the tetras, or even the colony of cherry shrimp in with them. The only things they ever show aggression towards are snails, and each other when they run into each other. Any input and thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Great video on the sparkling gourami thank you. I am considering getting my first fish outside of goldfish and know of some gourami's. I have a 75 gallon tank and I am curious, can ALL dwarf gourami types live together or just certain ones? I am also considering maybe putting a few tetra's in the same tank. Also thinking of a few cory cats for the bottom. Id love some advice if you don't mind. Thank you
For the most part, the only gouramis you can keep as multiples in the same tank are honey, pearl and sparkling gouramis. The rest are best kept individually.

@Prime Time Aquatics, hi, I have a couple questions. Soon I will be getting many more tanks and I have some stocking questions on 2 of them, both 40 gallon breeders. How many dojo loaches can I keep in a 40 breeder, I got one a couple weeks ago for my 55 gallon and I fell in love with him lol he's so cool and fun to feed and I would love a tank full of them, the dojos would be the only fish in the tank, it would have sand and be lightly planted but still have lots of hiding places. My second question is stocking for a 40 breeder catfish and loach tank, what do you think of this stocking in a densely planted aquarium with sand and good filtration: 5 pictus catfish 3 upside down catfish 3 albino corys 3 skunk corys 6 hillstream loaches 6 kuhli loaches 1 Bristlenose pleco and maybe 3-6 pygmy corys, but ive heard of pictus catfish eating guppies, which are bigger then pygmy corys so im worried they might get eaten, thoughts? Sorry I have so many questions lol
I'm a little late to the party but might as well ask, I have a 54l (60cm×30cm base) planted community aquarium with 5 neon tetras, 4 endlers, 4 cherry barbs and 4 otocinclus innesi (with some cherry shrimps and snails along) and I'm considering getting 2-3 sparkling gouramis as a finishing touch, would you consider it to be a good idea or is the aquarium too crowded for them?
Hi I have a tank with Chili rasboras, emerald dwarf rasboras and Spotted Dwarf Rasboras. Would these be suitable? There are 9 marble hatchet fish and panda and Venezuela Corydoras all in a java fern planted tank with spider driftwood
Cool fish. I have yet to see them in a store, but I will be looking. My Honey gourami and Dwarf Flame gourami move at the speed of dark...so may be a good match. LOL

If so how many of each w the CPDs Also I have a 9 g long w 6 neon tetra. Could a honey gourami be added w them ? Same set up and all my backgrounds are black and sand also black thanks. Love your videos
@@PrimeTimeAquatics I finally have a plan. Thanks very much for your quick response. When you order from flip and so multiples of the SG do they send a mix of sex?
Hey Jason good evening. For the past few days I've notice a lot of oil bubbles on my aquarium water surface, I did a 25% water change and my ph is at 6.8 and I have live plant. What cause it and is it harmful to the fishes? Thanks for your help
Can these guys be kept in a pair at all? I'm looking for a standout fish for my 15gallon community :). Other choices are single pearl gourami, dwarf gourami or maybe a betta but not sure if he will have the room.
I'd like to keep those fish one day. I only have 2 black neons left since the others have died of diseases or internal parasites. I also had pearl gouramis for a bit but the 2 that I had died of internal parasites and I couldn't treat them for that. I'm trying to get fish bred in captivity as I don't like getting wild caught fish. I hope that they don't jump out easily as I have a fish tank that has no tops. I'll replant my fish tank as a lot of my plants have died due to not enough ligh and hair algae covering them. I've been struggling with hair algae for more than 2 years. I had salvinia at one point but it died all of a sudden even if I was putting ferts once a week. I did completely stopped fertilizing my plants because of hair algae. Do you think that my fluval 205 output is too strong for those fish as I never fill it up 100%? My ph is around 7.6 and for my gh and kh, I don't really remembeer what it was and what it is now. I have a 30 gallons fish tank. How many can I put in a 30 gallons fish tank? Is it an easy fish to care for?
Ive been keeping sparklers for about a year and half now. I also have pea puffers in with them. Ive yet to see any spawning. Id really like to. But im sure the puffers are going to consume any fry. Right?
@@PrimeTimeAquatics thanks for taking the time to comment. I really enjoy your videos, respect your opinions in those videos, and am quite jealous im not doing what you are for a living. Lol. Keep it up bud!

could you keep them with a Betta in a 20 long?
That combo can be hit or miss - sometimes one of the fish winds up getting bullied.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics Thanks Jason I thought i'd heard keeping two anabantoids was a no no but couldn't remember
I have mine with 2 German rams, 2 ottos and a group of pygmy cats had no issues my tanknie heavily planted so they have plenty of places to hide.
Can you keep one with Badis Badis (Blue Perch) or Microctenopoma Ansorgii?
I haven't tried that combo. It would probably work out best in a 20 gallon long or larger.
Hey one question.Could I keep a only male guppies tank with endlerds and comons guppies?
Sometimes they chase each other around, but it might work out fine.
Got 6, 3 pair coming tomorrow to share a 30 gallon with my pygmy cory. Eventually I will get some clown killi's too.
Is it possible to keep sparkling gourami with bettas?
I probably wouldn’t. I could see the gourami getting bullied?
@@PrimeTimeAquatics Thank you very much.
Hey Jason good evening. For the past few days I've notice a lot of oil bubbles on my aquarium water surface, I did a 25% water change and my ph is at 6.8 and I have live plant. What cause it and is it harmful to the fishes? Thanks for your help
Sometimes that will happen if the fish food has excessive oil in it? Especially frozen mysis shrimp.
Hi Jason, can I keep a electric blue acara with other 2 fish in a 26 gallon
I usually like to keep them in a minimum of a 40 gallon due to their adult size.
I pretty much feed live black worms. And brine once or twice a week. They devour everything!
Can these guys be kept in a pair at all? I'm looking for a standout fish for my 15gallon community :). Other choices are single pearl gourami, dwarf gourami or maybe a betta but not sure if he will have the room.
Possibly a male and female pair.
Great content...🎉
Cool fish!
Good video
Just got 6 never seen them before
I'd like to keep those fish one day.
Right?
Ya, I think the puffers might like the little fry. :-)
@@PrimeTimeAquatics thanks for taking the time to comment. I really enjoy your videos, respect your opinions in those videos, and am quite jealous im not doing what you are for a living. Lol. Keep it up bud!
Could 4-5 be kept with a Betta?
Depends on the betta. Since the sparkling gourami is slow there is a chance a betta could bully them.
Hey guys, I have a 20gal long. Currently has some cherry shrimp, pearl danio, pygmy cory and a female betta. Would they be okay in this tank? Thanks!
They would most likely eat small shrimp, but might leave the larger shrimp alone (no guarantee though).
Okay. Thank you for the advice. Love the videos! 👍
I LOVE these fish! But they never do well for me and are also hard to find in my area.
Sorry to hear that. :-(
Hello, I am wondering which filter to get since I have read they prefer low power filters. Could you suggest a filter for me to get?
(I am using a 10 gallon tank)

Can you keep just one of them?
You can, but sometimes as individuals they tend to be a little timid.
Very cute
Has anyone kept them with a male betta?
Not sure I would do it unless you had maybe a 29 gallon or larger?
There like bettas but you can get groups of them
