Phil Dees in the SCORE version, once WGS hit I played a Goku Ally deck using the TS lv 1(obviously non-tokui). It wrecked face locally, though I never got to try it at a big tourney. The Panini version I actually spoiled Fargo regionals hard by shitting on alot of people's tiebreakers with my Blue Tien(set 1 Mastery). I ended up in 65th overall, and prize support started at 64th, but everyone got a "thanks for playing" pack and I pulled a True Power, so worth it :)
Pro Trunks Nice! My friend Alec Ruden I think won a tournament in Panini. I don't know what deck he played. He went with our friend Ryan Lambdin(uofcwildcat).
Can't charge your mind. WoW TCG is STILL better than Hearthstone IMO. I still play WoW TCG, I was playing this weekend. I have tons of the cards. It's a blast. Especially the dungeons and raids.
I think the TCG died because they made the move to hearthstone (which released only a year after the TCG's cancellation). Probably not the only reason but, with Hearthstones success I doubt the TCG will return
Heartstone should've been WoW TCG online. Never gonna forget the hour long fights that we had with friends, beating Black Temple only cause managed to topdeck a weapon to shoot Illidan with, having 1 hunter pet (Dundee) pretty much solo the first 4 bosses of Naxramas, playing the most unconventional murloc deck that turned heads on nationals, getting Alexstasza master hero on a draft (and then getting destroyed cause I'm not gonna pass a master hero to a random), my old bm hunter that could have up to 12 pets on the field... Still have nightmares from whenever a rouge or a shadow priest asked me how many cards I have in my hand...
I really miss this game. Wish it could somehow make a resurgence. Having that social experience where you can sit across from your opponent and have a real match is what made this so enjoyable for me. Wish I could go back to drafting with my friends at our local card store
please upvote this, the reason the game died the first time was all the fault of Upper Deck as I recall. The game was then handed to Cryptozoic who wouldn't allow use of any of the cards from the earlier Upper Deck era cards which was what truly killed the game. I loved this game as it was truly fun and easy to learn but hard to master. You never get mana screwed, every deck has access to card draw, each class played uniquely and synergized well, truly a waste to see this game die as it was FAR superior to MTG in every regard. I did hear that WOTC had a hand in killing this game due to copyright on mechanics like tapping resources and such, which doesn't surprise me that they would do that to ensure no one can compete with their shitty ass game.
I miss this game. I wish they would still make expansions and new dungeons. I still play this game today and have TONS of the cards. My favorite thing about this game is the cooperative modes for dungeons and raids. Those are super fun and I have yet to find a TCG that replaces them.
It was a good TCG but with one bad tactic, which was the loot cards. Instead of people playing the game, people are just chasing for the loot cards. I love the raid idea, the heroes used to play the game, and the idea of how to use mana without mtg’s idea of land for mana.
Because of the fact you can still buy booster boxes, starter decks, raid decks and singles online, a friend and I managed to get a small 8 person WoW TCG group going in my area. We do events sometimes, but mostly it's just us dicking around with a card game we love.
I own one thing from this TCG, it looks like one of those pokemon battle deck packs where it's two decks designed to fight each other and balanced around each other. It also comes in what almost looks like those old plastic large PC game cases.
I know I am late for commenting on this video but I dragged my collection outta storage while doing some spring cleaning, I found a few loot cards. I loved this game, I wish they would bring it back, the mechanics were really cool and you didn't really have to play the MMO to enjoy it. I never played WOW until after the TCG game was dead, I did not enjoy it as much as playing the TCG. Great video!
Please do more World of Warcraft opening please. Do the full box next time. The trading card game might be dead but the online game is certainly not. They just released the next expansion called Battle For Azeroth in October of 2017. I highly recommend watching the cinematic trailer because it's freaking awesome & better then any trailer Magic the gathering has ever done period.
I just recently started buying up as many WoW TCG cards, packs, sets, whatever as I can to collect and play. This was inspired by my getting into MTG / MTGO a few months before hand. I've played Hearthstone since the beta and I'm just now really enjoying the extra depth these other TCGs have. I do feel sad / bad that I missed the hype / hay day of WoW TCG, but I'm sure I can look around for people to play with :)
Quests cards were interesting and a great way to do resources. Raids were very cool, not many games have something similar. I like the ability to choose a hero to build a deck around.
This game died horribly because of the mistakes and shady dealings of Upper Deck. If their Grimy hands had not been in the pot and raping the players, shadow selling, and over printing product with out telling people. This game would be rivaling MTG now, and with Hearthstone as big as it is, this game WOULD be number one.
I LOVED this game. I had given up MtG for it. The game's "land" mechanic, Resources, made decks amazingly consistent and at the same time heavy on decisions. Having Heroes with set health totals made life gain moot, instead using healing effects to remove damage that would otherwise stay on cards. And Raids had that communal feel that Commander has for me today. There was even a redemption program where you could trade in material cards found in boosters to craft powerful cards found nowhere else. As for why it died, the story that I'd heard was that Cryptozoic reprinted all past Loot cards and put them into what would be the game's last set without permission from Blizzard.
About rarity: Edition name color (bottom of the card): White for common, Green for uncommon, Blue for rare and Purple for mythic. Orange are Loot, there are non-loot versions of it. 3 loots, the collection number is it rarity (1 for common, 2 for uncommon and 3 for mythic). Every 2-3 boxes have a mythic loot, whose value was nearly equal to the box. So, for "TCG only" players you could sell the loot cards to finish the deck. Common loot cards (the one you opened) was in every 5-7 booster packs, and I used to gift it to (computer) WoW to attract them to the TCG. About Raid decks: The most recent raid decks work on "autopilot", so it is all your friends against the deck. Very fun to play. About the end of the game: Blizzard ended (unilateral) the license. Unlike UDS, Cryptozoic was doing a awesome work, banning my main deck (sad memory...) and keeping the game healthy. The core format (Cryptozoic only) was what I played on my local game store. There was a "standard" format, but "standard" decks could play core decks at the same level. I had a Monster Hunter Big Creatures, a Horde Paladin Tauren tribal and a Alliance Mage Night Elf tribal deck. I remember my friends Horde Death Knight solo, Alliance Druid Nature, Monster Warlock Demon decks, Horde Paladin Orc tribal and Horde Druid tokens and Satyr (Warlock/Druid) Aggro.
Definitely wish this game was still thriving. I just got some starter decks and a raid deck from my LGS. Wanted to know how the game played. Cracked a Dark Portal Hearthstone. Gameplay is pretty sweet too.
I'm a huge fan of Warcraft, played the RTS releases way back when and I've played the MMO off and on since release. I loved the way the card game could give rewards in the MMO, really good idea. Everybody wanted the Spectral Tiger back in the day, I knew a lot of people who collected the card game without actually playing it simply for a chance at that sort of thing.
I played a chunk of Legion but ended up getting bored after Tomb launched. I've actually been spending some time on a private server of late, a place called Ascension, which is a classless realm where you get to pick and choose your abilities. Battle of Azeroth I hope will be good, I've always been a fan of the Old God theme in the game so I'm hoping Uldir will be fun.
Hi there, i have question, how this work: "destroy target ability" ? i can interrupt any opponent ability? basic/instant/attachment? (Elemental purge, Ancients 51/240)
I remember going to the store and spending the little money i had at the time (was like 15) on packs of these just for the loot cards. One hell of a promotional tool to sell packs / boxes.
Yea, I really loved playing this tcg. I remember that there were tournaments for it as well. I had a Dark Portal fat pack variant and build a horde shaman deck with it. I believe it was based on enhancement talent tree if I remember correctly.
Never got into the TCG but I remember when it came out and everyone was losing their minds over the Spectral Tiger. Unfortunately there was a big dupe or someone figured out how to generate codes and they became a lot more common.
Another good card game to try is warlord champions of the storm had a lot of fun with it back in the day and one of the few card games where card placment on the table mattred.
I got my starter pack with the launch of The Burning Crusade in 06. I have gotten the extra cards in collectors editions as they were made available. Maybe once or twice that I can remember... probably just once though... No one around where I lived ever played WoW, or the TCG at least not publicly. They just kind of sit in their case. I even bought a box of cards for the Gladiator set for my birthday present to myself once, and only got 3 or 4 loot cards in the box. They were pretty lack-luster, and I was just hoping for a Foam Sword Rack. Never got one :( Got a few of the Sandbox Spectral Tigers though. They were fun to give out.
Jay Griffis yeah but not the same I'm talking about the days of 40k tourneys..pre releases with awesome mats, t shirts and deck boxes. Not the community cards or boxed card game. Had some of the best prize support... till they decided to pull it for that horrible wow mini game.. then wow card game which upper deck ruined.
The World of Warcraft is what drives the price of those promo items and they just continue to rocket. I have a Tabard of Frost redeemed on my Death Knight that I got for around $200 maybe 4-5 years ago and now they're listed for $1600+, that's insane.
I loved this game, i have a pretty good collection and even have 5 unscratched loot cards, including the savage Raptor mount which is fetching like 300$ :) it would be amazing if it came back but i don't really feel like that's happening.
Nice vid!, could you please do duel masters? My school friends and I were playing yugioh when it first came out and we played through the first 3 sets before I moved countries and I stopped playing then yrs later it became kaiju i believe it was called, if you could make a video on it that would b awsome, i noticed the ramp and speed of the game went like crazy with tripple breakers and things like that.
I recently started getting into the Final Fantasy trading card game. Plays quite similar to MTG and I think they are doing decent. Recently released a new set of cards and desperate to get the Estinian card.
Hey man, a bit unrelated, but could you do a series about LIVE card games (other than the ones you mentioned : MtG, Pokemon, YuGiOh) out on the market? Could help people getting into some, or popularize them among gamers. There are some cool games out there, that lack a large player base.
I have some of these cards honestly I like the art on those better then the ones on Magic cards Yu-Gi-Oh Cards it depends on what card I have some Limited Edition XYZ Cards with a shine to them and got my Hieratic Sun Dragon Overlord of Helioplis box right in front of me and the card for that monster I have looks amazing. (maybe you could go through all the TCGs you have cards for and do a top 10 favorite card art for each :P )
Plaayed from the beginning loved the game. Rarity is determined by the color of the set name at the very bottom of the card. The game was doing great in my area and the reason the game died is blizzard refused to renew the license to Cryptozoic because they were releasing hearth stone. In fact I was one of the 2 certified tournament organizers and 1 of like 4 or 5 of the certfied judges for the city back then. One of the greatest things about the game was there was no mana screw like in magic because even if you didn't have a resource card you could play any card face down as a resource so you were pretty much always on curve.
I remember when I try to build a deck and try to get into the game..but right when I started it, the announcement came up of its discontinuing..I really love the possibilities in the game, but instead they use those mechanics for hearthstone..
Played it with a friend around 2009/10. Game exp was nice, I remember playing a "burn" deck. Sadly, there werent many players around, so we focused on mtg solely afterwards.
the WoW TCG was replaced with Hearthstone. Card rarity was determined by the colour of the writing at the bottom (white, green, blue, purple, orange - for common, uncommon, rare, epic, legen-wait for it-dary). you should try to pick up the 40k ccg by sabertooth, i played that a lot back in the day, it's a great game.
Did play a bit, have cards of Heroes of Azeroth and Beyond the Dark Portal, with Onyxia and Molten Core. It was a fun game. I'm regularly bugging my draft mates to try and make them play because MTG is less and less a fun game for me.
I loved this tcg me and friends still get together every now and then and play about a month back my local card shop was moving and was selling stuff at a discount i ended up AN bought all their old Back stock of wow tcg
I still have complete sets of the first few sets of this TCG plus a shit load of scratch cards unscratched. It was a great game, they should have never cancelled it, but I guess Hearthstone makes more.
For those who are looking for another WoW card game in terms of aesthetics, look up Dragoborne. I haven't played the game but from the ads I've seen for this game and some of the tutorials on it makes it look interesting.
My friend dragged me into this card game hardcore. I own every dungeon, and raid that has been printed. Also, I have a bunch of fun decks that I built for raid purposes.
WoWTCG Is back! A couple of people in USA have designed new cards for block 8 and many are coming (there have been a tournament at last GenCon)! We built up an unofficial circuit even in Italy and a lot of communities across different countries are doing as well! Go look for WoWTCG Reborn on the web and on Facebook!
This looks way more sick than Hearthstone and I think it is a really cool idea to have redeemable rewards for the video game in the packs. MTG should follow suit with loot cards for Arena or any other video games based in the MTG universe. It would get me buying packs again as I am not much of a TCG player, I prefer video games of other genres.
As much as I love this game and would love for it to come back, I really feel like Hearthstone has took over as what they’re going to focus on card wise
They reused a bunch of card art in hearthstone. I saw a couple murloc cards that are identical to hearthstone. Leeroy Jenkins is the same in both as well
I played it near the end of it's life and sadly we all saw it coming (or maybe just my group since it had a lot of higher level judges in it). If I'm not mistaken Blizzard just let the license run out and didn't wanna renew it because they were making hearthstone, which is a bare-bones version of the TGC.
if I remember correctly there were issues with upper deck and blizzard which causes them to change card manufacturing companies and downed the quality. instead of dealing with that headache they switched to hearthstone which was vastly more profitable for them.
Feels like a before hearthstone, pre hearthstone. Funny how I recognized many cards from Hearthstone in the Wow TCG I mean both are based off of WOW. I believe that going the way blizzard went was a good idea with an online collecting card game instead of a TCG because I'd imagine it'd be more cost-effective in the sense that they don't need to print and distribute paper cards and really worry about a non online market plus they get to be more creative in what mechanics that they put in the game.
I first heard of the TCG when I started playing Hearthstone. I thought to myself, "man this would be so cool if this was a physical card game" so I Googled it and saw it DID exist.... But it was dead then I was disappointed
The price for those loot cards is legit I paid for so many events at age 15-19 selling those when the game was live and well even getting a top at darkmoonfair.
Would like to see a video on the downfall of the dbz tcg and it's revival and fall again... when the panini version came out me and my friends started playing again it was great getting into it only to have them pull the plug.
I collected a fair bit of the WoW TCG and it was very good fun to play, especially the raid whether you played as or against the dungeon. I prefer the resource system to that of MtG, as you're effectively never completely screwed for resources (you could sacrifice any card face down and use that as 1 mana) though that's just personal preference. One thing that royally pissed me off, was that the loot card mount I got early on (turtle mount) you could later just get in the game. They had added a reskinned version which was fine as you could tell the difference, but then they added the original one as a drop. That's a pretty shitty thing to do. I also gave away a load of other loot items (tabards) as incentive for good performance in raids, in the game as well as joining social events to bond and compete. People went fucking nuts for those. It really was special, even if it drained my account something fierce for a while (and I got it at cost).
Hearthstone killed WOWTCG, all of my college friends still own a deck and we sometimes still gather around to challenge Raid Decks, we even constructed a Heroic Mode Onyxia and Magtheridon using another copy for both.
Hey I played and loved that game! I still have my collection. Now to watch the video. EDIT: LotR TCG has the warmest place in my memories, still. EDIT2 (as I'm watching it): Perfect time to come back to the MMO, the pre-patch for the next expansion comes out on Tuesday/Wednesday and the playing field will be very much levelled.
Remember To Keep CRUSHING That LIKE Button On The Video & Leaving Your Suggestions Below!
UnsleevedMedia what's your wow name and server? I still play WoW on Illidan server horde side.
UnsleevedMedia suggestion for Dead TCG series: DBZ card game(either the SCORE 2000 or Panini 2014 revival)
Pro Trunks This card game was great. My favorite deck was Red Rush SWK.
WOW TCG is better than hearthstone change my mind
Cannot be changed, truth is always truth
hearthstone is dog shit, gwent is better
Can't charge your mind. WoW TCG is STILL better than Hearthstone IMO. I still play WoW TCG, I was playing this weekend. I have tons of the cards. It's a blast. Especially the dungeons and raids.
Soooo true
@@michaeledwards1644 and still you watch kripp every day.
WoW TCG didn't die really. Blizzard wanted the rights back for the cards because a bunch of them became Hearthstone cards.
This is what I remember reading from Cryptozoic years ago
Blizzard just ended the licensing agreement, most likely due to them wanting to push Hearthstone. The game was still popular even as it was killed.
Thats Fucking Sad....But they Wanted Heartstone to be simpler I guess,...and haven 2 similar games....
I think the TCG died because they made the move to hearthstone (which released only a year after the TCG's cancellation). Probably not the only reason but, with Hearthstones success I doubt the TCG will return
Yeah. I think sales had been going down on the game, but they totally killed it off to have it not compete with Hearthstone.
Same, the silly thing is that I've heard my friends say they'd love to be able to have physical hearthstone cards and I'm the same.
Sadly, hearthstone is a gutted, RNG filled version of the WoW TCG. If you know how to play MTG, you can pick up and be competent at the WoWTCG.
I agree, some card outright don't work on a physical tcg. Like the ones that summon random spells that may not be in your deck.
Yes, they even reused art in HS from WoW TCG.
Random TheQuartering encounter
Heartstone should've been WoW TCG online. Incorrect, Mr. Nash. None of the UDE cards became illegal when Cryptozoic took over. Besides, the game went on for five years after that happened.
This game may have been fun, but superior to MTG? Come on.
you cant copyright card-game mechanics
amethystwyvern me drawing on index cards is superior to mtg
Died for me when they released Grinch. The game just wasn't fun anymore

what do you mean by "raping the players" ...
Cryptozoic held the license for the final three years of production . . .

Nice vid!, could you please do duel masters? My school friends and I were playing yugioh when it first came out and we played through the first 3 sets before I moved countries and I stopped playing then yrs later it became kaiju i believe it was called, if you could make a video on it that would b awsome, i noticed the ramp and speed of the game went like crazy with tripple breakers and things like that.
i hope it comes back i miss those days
Been subbed to the quartering, was surprised to find this
I recently started getting into the Final Fantasy trading card game. Plays quite similar to MTG and I think they are doing decent. Recently released a new set of cards and desperate to get the Estinian card.
Great video love this I want to one day make my own game not that big something ya can play at a locals so seeing these is inspiring
The rarity is determined by the color of the set name on the bottom. White commons, green uncommons, blue rares, purple epic, orange legendary
Great video, love this series. You should do Doom Trooper!! I probably liked it more than MTG when it came out.
the WoW TCG was replaced with Hearthstone. Card rarity was determined by the colour of the writing at the bottom (white, green, blue, purple, orange - for common, uncommon, rare, epic, legen-wait for it-dary).
you should try to pick up the 40k ccg by sabertooth, i played that a lot back in the day, it's a great game.
Wow tcg is pretty badass actually, used to play it with my bros when I was younger. The raid decks are really fun
I still have two binders of these cards. Organized by faction race class and alphabetically.
I'm still collecting and playing WoW TCG it's the best strategy trading card game ever. So much more fun than magic
I played WoW but never the TCG. It’s my favorite video game of all time (by a mile). Fun to see you open a couple of packs. -mM
What server are you on in WoW?
I'd suggest you look into the wheel of time tcg. It's one of the few card games that requires the playmat to play.
You should pick up and review Magi Nation and Yu Yu Hakusho if you find any at Gencon
I still have complete sets of the first few sets of this TCG plus a shit load of scratch cards unscratched. It was a great game, they should have never cancelled it, but I guess Hearthstone makes more.
WHAT IVE BEEN WAITING FOR
For those who are looking for another WoW card game in terms of aesthetics, look up Dragoborne. I haven't played the game but from the ads I've seen for this game and some of the tutorials on it makes it look interesting.
good video series keep it up
My friend dragged me into this card game hardcore.
Is the TCG like Hearthstone?
I remember when the card game came out, I remember me and a bunch of friends didn't go near it because it was ridiculously expensive
Swift Spectral Tiger ( the rarest loot card ) go for 3200 Dollars with the price rocketing, i bought mine for 800 Euro only 2 years ago
Never played it, but i have the Onyxia's lair dungeon
I really wanted that dark portal loot card but never got one. I've only ever seen it in game very rarely and wonder how rare it actually was.
Liked the Street Fighter TCG back in the day.
The raid decks sounds like those “kill the Hydra” “survive the horde” and “kill the god” on Theros Block
if I remember correctly there were issues with upper deck and blizzard which causes them to change card manufacturing companies and downed the quality. instead of dealing with that headache they switched to hearthstone which was vastly more profitable for them.
You should do warlord tcg. Personally my favorite tcg to date.
I first heard of the TCG when I started playing Hearthstone. I thought to myself, "man this would be so cool if this was a physical card game" so I Googled it and saw it DID exist.... But it was dead then I was disappointed
Sort by completed auctions to get a real feel for what the current prices are. The Bloat the Bubble fish is going for about $10.
I just bought a bunch of cards on ebay as a lot, and some raid decks to play as more of a preconstructed coop game.
The price for those loot cards is legit I paid for so many events at age 15-19 selling those when the game was live and well even getting a top at darkmoonfair.
For the next dead TCG, how about Hecatomb? Vampire: The Eternal Struggle? Net Runner? Or the best one yet, Knights of the Zodiac
Holy shit! Congratulations on the loot card.
You should check out gundam war
Fay Ven HELLZ YES... I still have a bunch of Gundam War cards :)
Ahh yes Gundam War, what a fun CCG
I miss. It I really started collecting two years before its collapse
Dead ccgs to check out
My 2 favorites are:
1 Raw deal (a wrestling ccg)
2 The Spoils
