As a history teacher/trained historian, A 60 yr old, life long Columbo fan....I appreciate the time and research required to dig into the lives of the leads and supporting cast of the episode. It is great fun watchin your reviews. This episode with guest murderer John C as the conductor is a classic. When Columbo ask how much his house cost and about taxes is funny as hell. . .. my pleasure and great of you to reply, peace, love and soul... long live Columbo ....
Im gonna be honest, I was busting up laughing at the "Why did you marry me" editing, with the money piling up around them. Absolutely hilarious Another excellent video, thank you for making these
Another incredible review, we don’t deserve these! The details you provide on all the extras, co-stars and even the production crew is greatly appreciated. Looking forward to the next one!
Rob speaks true. Your work on these reviews is excellent. I hope they bring attention to your obvious skills to someone with deep pockets in the entertainment business.
I’m an older, long since divorced lawyer who swore off relationships many years ago. I’m settled, rational, and very much enjoy my hard-earned solitude. But I’ll swear, I think I may be madly in love with this narrator😊
Made me laugh too! For some reason this calls to my mind a comment by CS Lewis. He used to be an atheist and through considerable thinking (and God) he became a Christian. He wrote in his search for truth that he came to realize that what he loved was goodness. I think what all of Shonna’s followers love about her and her videos is the goodness!
Yes our friend here has a delightful wit and charm and she's smart and resourceful too making and selling soap on the internet. Many blessings to you in all your ventures narrator lady.
As a car guy from a family of car people I loved that you name the make, model, and year of the cars. My family will talk over movies to figure out what year car they are driving.
This is what makes youtube awesome. 45 yrs after watching Columbo, I'd never imagine watching such a well in-depth analysis of this great show and great photos! I have a lot of catching up to do with your work. Subscribed. Thank you
Same here, lifelong Columbophile thanks to innumerable re-runs on tiny German TV channels dedicated to 'oldies' (like 'Murder she wrote etc, Little farm in the prairie etc, most filmed long before I was even born). The YT algorithm sometimes is good for something :), this being my first episode.
This is the best ending of my day! I was SO looking forward to to your next review and here it is! This was a great episode with two great friends (Peter Falk and John Cassavetes)! Thank you very much (in my Columbo voice)! 💗
Thank you so much for this. Feel free to add as much detail as you want and make your videos as long as you need. I love every second. You obviously put a great deal of effort into these and it is very much appreciated.
A personal favorite episode of mine. Cassavetes is terrific here as the guest villain and as a listener of classical music , I like the idea of a composer being the main character here. Great chemistry between Cassavetes and Falk here.
Best and most witty reviews on the internet. This channel gives me one more chance to relive my favorite series with new details and insights. Your enthusiasm and charm make it most enjoyable. And if the pendants get all bunched up about the pronunciation of the names of famous artists, musicians, or even streets of Los Angeles they can ALL just simmer down.
I have only come across your channel a few days ago, and I am binge watching all your videos in order from oldest to newest! Great job👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 This is one of my favorite episodes. The old established film actors really shine in Colombo episodes. John Cassavettes was excellent in this episode, and you can see the chemistry between him and Peter Falk. I’ve done some of the same research that you must’ve done for these videos, but only a fraction of your effort. Thank you so much for these videos, and I look forward to watching them all.
Thank you for doing this, Shonna. I really mean it. I was overwhelmed by rage and sadness today, for what goes on here, ... This is literally my sole source of comfort, joy and learning these days. I was really glad to see the notification of your new video today! Amazing presentation, review and research work as always. "Etude" was my introduction to Columbo (and possibly one of my fav. episodes). The episode is so re-watchable. The chemistry between the brilliant Cassavetes, Peter Falk and Gwyneth Paltrow's mom (who is also very underrated) is unmatched. John Cassavetes acting and mannerisms on stage remind my of Herbet von Karajan, real life conductor. My only nitpick about the episode is that the cockatoo is somehow underused here. If you're a fan of The Adventures of Tintin, you might know there's a plot revolving a victim's parrot in a Tintin book called "The Broken Ear"; in it, the parrot gives away the name of the killer who strangely enough stages the murder scene of his victim by leaving the gas on exactly as Cassavetes does here! To top it off, Tintin goes on a Columbo piecing-together of clues in on of the pages, same with the animation, wearing his signature Columbo-like raincoat! You can check the Tintin episode here; the parrot plot kicks in at around 5:20 ua-cam.com/video/LPhPAvNwR8M/v-deo.html
I'm so sorry life is such a challenge right now for you, your family, and country. I hope much brighter days are coming your way, Aria. I am happy to know you have a moment of escape through Columbo... Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the episode and even referencing another story that is relevant to the cockatoo! I will check it out tomorrow. For now, I must go to sleep ❤️ Take care, my friend...
@@WatchitforDays That's very kind of you, Shonna. I appreciate you patiently replying to us. I'm sorry I keep bringing up what goes on here, I know it's not very pleasant. I just wanted to highlight that your content is so good that it takes me out of the situation for an hour and gives me something entertaining and very educational to watch. Oh, my pleasure! I hope you find the Tintin episode intriguing. And just one more thing: I think the Hitler movie that Alex is scoring here is part of a larger pattern within the series. There seems to be a parallel drawn between some of Columbo's killers and Nazi-like behavior. The Great Santini episode (ft. Jack Cassidy) comes to mind, also Eddie Albert in "Dead Weight" is very conspicuously farmed under a Nazi symbol if I recall. Many thanks again, my dear friend. Good night to you. ❤
@@WatchitforDays Well, thanks again. I cannot imagine how you dig up all the data. My favorites are “Etude in Black,” “Any Old Port in a Storm,” and all of them with Patrick McGoohan. bill…
It was something my mother watched with her family and she shared the re-runs with us, whenever she saw them on the schedule. My brothers didn't always sit through the whole thing, but I loved hearing my dad whisper to Mom when he thought he'd figured out Columbo's trap. :)
Review details are second to none. Your hard work is very appreciated, please keep ‘‘em coming. Just know that I watch each review multiple times, and enjoy them each time. Again … Thanks 😎
I watch many reaction videos and often they never take any time or effort to research. I love the both your intelligent comments but also your sense of humor. A year later still enjoying your video. Great job!
I absolutely love your channel!!! As a Columbo fan the back story information you give is incredible, you obviously spend a lot of time and effort making these videos. Thank you.
Once again, a top-quality review with delicious trivia. You'll notice a character gets 'scared' quite a lot in the episodes to come. It seems to be another classic trait written into the scripts. Well done!!
This was hilarious! These just keep getting better, I'm all in for longer videos. Never knew that Dog was nearly called Maestro! A nice idea but "Dog" is such a perfect name for the mutt that I think they made the right choice. My first episode was A Stitch in Crime (which I also never knew was the first filmed for Season 2) which I watched at my grandmother's house on a Sunday afternoon, can't say for sure but I was probably around 6 or 7 years old. I was a fan of other crime/murder mystery shows which was how I ended up sitting down to watch it, and I've never looked back Can't wait to hear what jokes you have lined up for Jarvis Goodland and co. next!
Thank you very much, Adam, for such a kind comment! I agree, keeping his name as Dog is very fitting and something to make you smile. That's amazing A Stitch in Crime was your first episode. One of my favorites! Thanks for sharing the circumstances, too. Many people can't remember that part. Thanks, again, for watching. Take care, my friend 😊
Oh goody, .... I can not wait to watch this tomorrow morning when I wake up. I can not think of a better way to start my November. Thanks for making this.
This is my favorite episode. I love the acting so much. But! I am so appreciative of the tone of your review. It’s so grounded and neutral as to not fawn and allowed for real consideration of its independent value as a movie. I think Blythe’s role is key, it’s the best ending in the series. Her looking at him and saying she just can’t was so well delivered and powerful, and his humiliated response is just perfect. Thank you so much for your work. What a great Halloween surprise!
hello and thank u so much for posting these clever, witty, informative amazing and fun reviews! the time just flies. life-long columbo fan here in the UK, currently in hospital undergoing treatment for multiple myeloma and your work is helping keep me relatively happy and sane despite everything. this is a precious resource, please keep it going and thank u!! phil
I happen to listen to Chopin most nights..he is great to fall asleep to and on another note I am now a massive fan of you're video reviews of columbo..pure brilliance thankyou
Thank you so much for these informative and entertaining videos. I LOVE how much you love Columbo. I was raised watching these. I mean literally. I watched as soon as they came out. I was very young so don't remember the first one I watched. And keep it up. You rock
I just re-watched your outstanding account of several of your COLUMBO overview documents. I must apologize because I have never found anyone on any document overviews as exceptional as you are. You see, I first just lightly viewed your stellar voice over work and when I re-watched again now... You are thorough and professional and a delight. Please forgive me for not noticing your work immediately. Thank you for your phenomenal thorough enjoyable entertaining hard work. Well done! You are also blessed with a clear resonate voice and your phrasing is professional and friendly too. I sure would like to know more about you.
You narrate these great! You make them them sound so interesting. You point out things I never noticed before like that terrible piano playing by Jennifer even though I have seen these several times.I never noticed.
A couple of days ago I stumbled upon your channel, coincidentally after wrapping up a long Columbo re-watch. All I've been doing since (and will definitely continue doing) is binge watching your Columbo reviews, and it makes me really happy seeing that there are still people who care about a scruffy long coat tv detective over 50 years later. My first ever Columbo episode was "The most crucial game" a couple years back. At the time my family had nothing better to do than go through old dvds in our cottage basement since the wifi was out, replacing our nightly Netflix movies with whatever Columbo episode my dad had picked for us. Ive truly fallen in love with your videos, and will definitely be coming back with each new upload.
Wonderful stuff. Found your videos a week ago and watched them all. Something so relaxing listening to you tell all these little things about the show. Columbo would be proud of your attention to detail. The first episode of Columbo I watched was Any Old Port in a Storm and it's still my favorite. Can't wait till you get to it.
You know what I love? I love that you give these columbo episodes mostly five stars with the occasional for, just like I do. I know that any work of art like this has plenty of nitpicks, but I tend to just rate purely off of my enjoyment level, and I enjoy the heck out of nearly every columbo episode ever filmed. Also, my brother is an automobile aficiando, and I've heard him say that thing about like a bank vault. He says it when closing a car's door if the door fits the frame nicely, no rattling no edges sticking out further than they should be, etc. So, like a bank vault, indicates high quality.:-)
Love your Deep dive reviews. I've been re-watching a lot of Columbo episodes over the last six months. I just recently discovered your videos. Your breakdowns are absolutely terrific and packed with detail. I find your editorial commentary hilarious at times. Your observations and critiques on wardrobe or aspects of a performance are tremendous. Keep up the good work!!!
Thank you so much for the work you put into your episodes. I find them endlessly charming and entertaining. I first fell in love with Columbo watching reruns after class in college in the ‘90’s and fell in love with all Peter Falk’s work. Your work is well written, thoroughly researched, sharply edited, and effortlessly funny. Congratulations on your channel and keep up the great work!
I really love Columbo's portrayal in this episode. He recognizes Alex as the killer almost immediately and spends most of the episode just messing with him Bugs Bunny style. Like when Alex walks into Columbo sitting in his expensive car, he definitely did that on purpose just to annoy him.
I used to watch Columbo when I was 12. I loved the way he tormented the murderers during the show. All of the Sunday and Wednesday Mystery Movies were fun, my favorites were Columbo and Banacek. I could hardly wait for the next episode to air. I really enjoy your attention to detail, your obvious love of the subject matter, and the incredible amount of work you go through to make these. I might even be falling in love with your voice. Keep up the good work and thank you for making these.
Just finished binging all of these videos and can't believe I hadn't discovered them sooner! Columbo is one of my favorite shows of all time and you bring so much fun, in-depth information and commentary to a series I already love so much. I'm personally a sucker for all those old, grand houses they used as filming locations and I love that you always mention them. And, I was even more thrilled to find out you were born in the "late '80s" -- finding another female millennial Columbo fan is like some kind of Holy Grail (I was born in '85). Thank you SO much for this series, you have all my compliments and an eternal sub.
Wow! Thank you very much, Stef, for taking the time to write this amazingly encouraging comment! I truly appreciate your kindness and I'm so glad you're here 😊 You and I are definitely a rare find amongst the general Columbo demographic.
I just found your channel. I love the format! Thank you so much. About the child Audry and her comment about her body, in the 70's, many would have thought of it as funny and endearing, not sexual. The idea was that a child is trying to impress an adult with her 'sophistication'. Also, we had the idea of 'the generation gap' back then, a sorta insurmountable barrier between adults and the young. Audrys comments might play into that, too.
I’m still amazed of the detail you show with each review. I couldn’t wait to hear this review because this episode is one of my favorites. As usual you did a masterful job. Thank you so much from one Columbo fan to another. Just one more thing……..😉😉😉
I think probably the biggest plot hole that I noticed was that Jennifer was at home leisurely playing the piano, and Alex shows up, all relaxed, and even says “Hey, let’s have a drink.” They’re both supposed to be at the concert hall getting ready to perform! Why wasn’t she at least getting ready to leave for the show?
It seems that it is implied that the concert is later that evening.I don't see it as a plot hole.I am 66yo lifetime Columbo afficionado. My pick for the most obvious blooper is when Richard Kiley says to Michael Mc Guire"This is the quid quo pro". I cracked up when I heard that as it is very obvious.
@@randalldavis3251 I think you're right. In my recollection of this episode, Alex visited in the afternoon, whereas a concert like this would of course happen at night. As is shown in the footage of Alex looking at his lapel for the carnation. Plenty of time to chat and have a drink before the concert.
I was born in 68 so I'd watch Columbo on Sunday nights at my grandparents. I'll never forget that intro music before the show started. First episode of yours I ever saw. From a longtime Columbo fan wow what a great job you do. Better than great. Thank you.
You are amazing with the information you have on all the details. I will be glad to buy you a coffee and a chili except not through paypal. I grew up with Colombo and have seen every episode multiple times. Thank you! Thank you!
I've had to proceed throughout the series without your wonderful background details and excellent research, along with your terrific quips and the quality of the callbacks that you make is like watching the episode again with all of the excitement that entails. Thank you again!
My first episode is lost in the mists of time (I’m 58), but the first one I remember is By Dawn’s Early Light - a masterpiece Columbo, imho. And Etude in Black is my very favourite, with about twelve others tied for a close second! I bought the boxed set about eight years ago, all 89 episodes or whatever it is - and I watched the series nightly for about three or four years straight. Watched it for years! It’s like a best friend to me, never tire of it though I now know every detail. I no longer watch it every night, but I hop around in the series, when I’m in the mood, and I watch and rewatch all your videos - you are my favourite Columbo UA-camr by far, for your pure passion for the art form that is Columbo!
This episode aired on my first birthday. I don't remember what the first episode I saw was, but my parents were fans so I'm sure that's how I started watching. Columbo is one of my all time favorite shows and he's one of my farorite characters and actors. Thank you for this series, I really enjoy your breakdowns of the episodes.
This is absolutely wonderful. Gosh you are incredibly knowledgeable. Congratulations! Myrna was fabulous in this, she did quite a number of things at Universal in the early 1970s, Airport 1975 was the most obvious. I thoroughly enjoyed this review, you’re a gem. ❤
The episode with Ruth Gordon is one of the greatest, probably the best. She is extraordinary. I look forward to your review. Mariette Hartley is in that one and I’m sure she’s in two Columbos.
I hope you’re not tired of all the accolades but I thoroughly enjoyed this presentation. For me, “Etude in Black” is the supreme Columbo episode and your great attention to detail is very satisfying to say nothing about being so informative and entertaining. Thank you for sharing!
Fantastic review .Yes , you correctly identified a reet proper Lancashire accent . Surely the actor James Mceachin went on to play a TV Detective himself Harry Tenefly ? Apologies if I'm wrong .
You blew our minds over here! We just discovered Columbo and we watch this exact episode the day before the video was released. Wild. Great job and subscribed!
It's always going to be a good evening when a new WifD review drops. This is one of my favourite early episodes, John Cassavetes is such an interesting actor & he's great in this. Have you seen 'Mikey and Nicky' (1976)? I watched it recently, Falk and Cassavetes work really well together, its totally worth a watch. 'The Lady with the Legs' Jennifer Welles was played by Anjanette Comer, who also has the most beautiful blue-grey eyes, seen to their best effect in 'The Loved One' (1965).
You are so kind, thank you very much Balázs! And thank you for sharing about the fact that Columbo has always been on your family TV watching schedule so you can't remember your first episode. That is just as interesting to me ❤️
Thanks for another great Columbo video. My first Columbo was Sex and the married detective when it aired for the first time on UK television. It was my dad who got me to watch it saying it’s great because Columbo knows who the killer is from the start. Not quite true but that concept was intriguing and to this day I get so much joy from the show and listening to content like yours. Keep up the great work.
Thank you for sharing your first episode! It'll sure be a while before I review that one... And also, thank you for sharing that your dad introduced you to Columbo 😊 And one more thank you: for your great kindness and encouragement!
Amazing video, I have never seen your narratives before. That you go to such trouble to revisit and research the names and careers of these actors is an honor to their memories. Thank you!
Your analysis and information on all things Columbo is simply marvelous and staggering. I am so grateful for your work. It helps me understand and appreciate so much more than I thought possible. Thank you for your awesome channel!
Girl, you just keep getting better and better with each review. Fastest one hour+ on here. The Carnation thing also hit me as a bit too convenient as well but Falk and Cassavetes's real friendship translates to some awesome chemistry on screen. And yes, doesn't Blythe Danner look like a mirror image of Gwyneth in some shots? I like to pretend she time traveled back to '72 to live out her acting aspirations 70s style! Happy Holidays to you, dear Shonna! Looking forward to the next entry!
At 1:01:19, there was a great opportunity for you to talk about Peter Falks left eye wandering about that was left in the Final Cut. It’s a perfect Columbo moment. The whole interaction with the the police officer is what made Columbo so adorable. It’s something the series lost later as he started playing the role way too cute. I used to watch this show as part of the NBC Mysteries with my mom. She certainly loved this show along with McCloud and McMillan and wife. They were all quality shows but she really loved Peter Falk. He played the detective with such childlike innocence. We bonded over this show. There was also a “One More Thing” moment that I thought you were going to capitalize on with a banner or balloons or fireworks and cannons going off but nope. 😂 I think you do an excellent job! I am a location buff as well. It would be nice to know what recording studio that was across the street from the car shop. That was really a great surprise when you did a then and now comparison. I love that kind of stuff and thank you for going to all the extra trouble to do that. I also love that you show the actors a great deal of respect about their careers and where else you might see them. That is exemplary. Great job young lady. I can’t wait to watch more of your work.
What a generous and kind comment! Thank you very much... I mention his eye on Death Lends a Hand and how he lost it. I probably should bring it up again every once in a while because I don't think people watch every single video. I loved hearing about how you watched Columbo with your mom. Thank you for sharing! I actually intentionally don't draw extra attention when there is a "one more thing" because that legendary catch phrase is talked about plenty. I do, however, always keep them in my reviews for the audience to hear how often it is said. I'm really glad to hear you enjoy the reviews! That makes my day ❤️
I have always loved this episode. And it's mostly because I love that John Cassavetes, when he's caught, looks to me like a kid caught with his fingers in the cookie jar. It's priceless! Thankyou for another very informative look back. 🙂
Can't believe a Columbo channel exists... its my favourite show, I thought I was alone! 😃 I love etude, Cassavetes was a great bad guy. I reckon the bit about taxes is improvised by Falk - he used to do that (like asking Robert Culp how much his shoes cost).
Just one more thing... I never understood how after the murder, back in his dressing room, Alex could first remove his jacket, and then put it back on, and not notice that his carnation was missing at that time....but that’s just me. I get these things in my head, and I can’t sleep 😛 Another great video!! I’m really enjoying these!
@@WatchitforDays No kidding??! So did I, but I rejected the idea.......people lose flowers ALL the time, and in this case, in this case he would only have realized it could tie him to the crime once he saw it at the piano foot.
Thanks! I just found this channel and watched two episodes back to back. They're way more entertaining than they have any right to be. I'm looking forward to watching future entries as well as catching up on your back-catalog.
I’m all caught up. I honestly enjoyed these as much as the actual episode. I don’t know how you get all your info but it is so so so fun to get all the actor and location history. I can’t wait for the next one!
I'm so glad you played the part when Columbo said, "That's my specialty, homicide." That whole segment with the killer at the piano is one of the best scenes of the entire series. I'd like to know your opinion. Most of the other top ones are toward the end of the episode: Candidate in Crime, A Friend In Deed, and Suitable for Framing.
Incredibly enjoyable and informative reviews!! I look for them with great anticipation. For someone who first watched Columbo dubbed in French for years before moving to the USA and finally hearing the series in "VO" ("Version Original") for a few decades, your reviews add something fresh, witty, and magical to an already perfect show. Thank you very much. "Just one more thing": I hope you could provide an ADDITIONAL, AND SAFER, OPTION to allow a more secure monetary donation to your channel, such as Superchat or Paypal... I really want to donate (for every one of your posted episodes) but I don't feel comfortable using your proposed payment method.
I truly appreciate your wonderfully kind comment! Thank you very much :) That is a good idea to have paypal as an option. If you ever decide you still want to send a gift, I have created a Watch It For Days paypal option: PayPal.Me/WatchItForDays
Excellent as always. Very interesting and informative! I also like the cast recap from other episodes at the end. You put a creative touch to these that makes them very entertaining. I especially laughed at the money images. LOL 💰💵💰💵💰
This was my first Columbo too! Back in the late 80s/early 90s Columbo was on BBC 1, here in the UK, on Saturday nights. I used to watch it every week with my parents. Want to hear a pointless fact? Here in the UK we used to have an ice cream sauce called Ice Magic. You would pour it on top of your ice cream and then put your ice cream in the fridge, wait for 5 minutes and then when you would get it out, the Ice Magic would be all hard and set on the ice cream, giving the ice cream this gorgeous thick coat of chocolate (the mint chocolate was my favourite). Well, I would have a bowl of ice cream (with the ice magic) every week for Columbo, and according to my mother, I would pour my ice magic on my ice cream at the start of every episode, but then never go and get it from the fridge until AFTER the murder had been committed. It was, apparently, my Columbo rule. I would never bite into my delicious ice magic until after whoever was the murderer that week had committed the murder. Then, as soon as Columbo appeared on the screen, ready to solve investigate the crime, it was then...Ice Magic Time! Pointless fact I know, but I always think of it now, whenever Columbo is on. Pointless fact Number 2. They don't sell Ice Magic anymore!
I loved hearing your ice cream magic story! We still have that chocolate here. It's called Magic Shell. I haven't had it in a very long time but I remember it being so delicious. I might have to pick some up next time I go to the store.
John Cassavetes movies are worth a watch. They are an acquired taste, not for everyone, but he had real talent. His movies weren't just self indulgent wastes of time. He was a perfect foil for Columbo, because playing amoral characters was one of his strengths as an actor.
After a crazy and exhausting week, this was what the doctor prescribed. So much information and such an eye for detail. Het was wel en plezier. Dank je wel. Another treasured episode; I went off Columbo a year ago after watching the reruns on COZI TV, finding the program and his attitude a little annoying (as you correctly showed in your witty montage ("I happened to be in the neighborhood“). I seem to have forgotten the better episodes. I may revisit some episodes now and kicking myself for not seeing the details you do. Keep up,the great work 👍.
I truly appreciate your kindness and for sharing your thoughts. I hope things calm down for you so you don't have to be exhausted. Thank you for the encouragement and the gift ❤️ Take care, SasBald
I really enjoy your Columbo reviews . I noticed a silver Rolls Royce in the movie that looked similar to the one Dick Van Dyke drove in Negative Reaction .
LOVE your reviews! In this one, you asked about the scene with typewriter, and how Columbo could have known that it was slightly askew. I don't know if it's been answered here - forgive me if it has, but it's actually quite plausible - while it's not nearly as easy to do with modern-day (in fact, it's nearly impossible, unless the original typist has used a font you don't have access to ;- ), with carriage-based typewriters of old, it's VERY easy to do - it's VERY easy to measure out the paper, its position in the typewriter, the position of the carriage and keys relative to the paper. In fact, you don't even need to take the paper out to measure it, if you know how, and it's not hard to do - and yes, I've done it. And there's a bit more plausibility lent to the fact that Columbo relies on his "boys at the lab", and they've done many, Many, MANY typewriter and handwriting analysis, and they do actually seem to be pretty good at their jobs - it'd be almost impossible they wouldn't know how to do this. Hope this helps! Keep up the good work!!! 🙂
@@WatchitforDays You crack me up with your analysis and I look forward to more. When I was writing this update, I left out one detail, but I did so for a reason - what I typed about typesetting is actually a science, but back to your original point - and it's a detail I KNOW you'd notice ;- ) - given the typesetting of the typewriter in question was, well, pretty much ordained - he'd committed that Cardinal Sin of taking the paper out (the Villain, not Columbo) and putting it back in, he must have had grand confidence in his "the boys down at the lab", but there's more - he's just, himself, committed that Cardinal Sin of ruining evidence, but this is where I laughed about it - he's got evidence in his pockets - mixed up with unrelated receipts, bills, heck, you name it! - that just cracked me right up! That's never been an issue to Columbo, of course - back then, they had different rules for evidence and such ;) That brightened my day when I was writing this - I hope it does yours, too! ;)
On a positive "note" you did a really good job on this episode. BTW Don Knight appeared on an episode of Banacek and the role he played was that of a bigamist.
One of my best friends used to play in that beautiful mansion shown as the Benedict home! I thought she was kidding until one day she saw her childhood buddy by the driveway and he waved at her. She pulled over and they talked for a bit while I struggled in my seat wanting desperately to go for a tour inside. She mentioned it to him and he said sure. I was elated until my friend told him we will come back someday and hang out. We never did. She passed away in 2011. She had told me that he inherited the house from his parents and had built a train track that went through the upper floor…not sure if that was true but I got a kick out of it. I showed her this episode and she laughed as she pointed out most of the scenes are genuine including that beautiful staircase. RIP my friend❤ And big THANK YOU for all your hard work and devotion to our legendary detective!
Huge Aussie 🇦🇺 Columbo fan, My mum introduced me to this show many years ago, this year is 19 years since she passed ❤but I've bought The complete series on DVD. ❤❤❤ I absolutely love your channel. Love from❤❤❤ 🇦🇺
My first "Columbo" was the one where Dick Van Dyke was the "guest murderer," and I have especially fond memories of it because it was my first night in my own apartment, after having lived in very uncomfortable circumstances. It was a cold winter night in Tokyo, and I had my favorite "dinner": sweet baked potatoes with plenty of butter! "Columbo" is very popular in Japan, and you can watch it in English if you have a stereo TV set, with one speaker playing the original soundtrack and the other playing the version that's dubbed into Japanese.
Thank you for sharing this story with me! Such detail that I could imagine it. I think it's wonderful how popular Columbo is in Japan. I hope your circumstances are very comfortable now ❤️
Shona: My dad introduced me to Columbo. The first episode I watched as I recall was..... the one with Donald Pleasance, who played a wine snob. I was born in 1976 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. 😅
Thank you for sharing that your dad introduced you to Columbo. Donald Pleasance' episode, Any Old Port in a Storm, is one of my favorites. What's your favorite thing about Pennsylvania? I've never visited that state, yet
@@WatchitforDays I havent been there in a long time. I left PA in the year 2000. I live in Memphis, TN now. Although I might move back or move somewhere else someday if I work up the gumption. I liked the neighborhood I grew up in, which was in Bensalem in lower Bucks County, a suburb. I guess I liked a world that doesnt exist anymore, our house, Phillies games at Veterans Stadium, Flyers games at the Spectrum (both of which have since been torn down). I like that Ben Franklin flew his kite like a 5-10 minute drive from our house. lol Ummm..... the neighborhoods in Northeast Philly, where my grandparents and cousins and aunts and uncles lived. I like that it's where democracy was born.

Rob speaks true. Your work on these reviews is excellent. I hope they bring attention to your obvious skills to someone with deep pockets in the entertainment business.

But I’ll swear, I think I may be madly in love with this narrator😊
Your comment made me laugh, thank you!
That makes two of us.
You are all so sweet, thank you ❤️
As a car guy from a family of car people I loved that you name the make, model, and year of the cars. My family will talk over movies to figure out what year car they are driving.

A personal favorite episode of mine.
Cassavetes is terrific here as the guest villain and as a listener of classical music , I like the idea of a composer being the main character here.
Great chemistry between Cassavetes and Falk here.
Absolutely!
Us composers can be totally evil, you know….😈😈😈😂😀😀😀
Best and most witty reviews on the internet. This channel gives me one more chance to relive my favorite series with new details and insights. Your enthusiasm and charm make it most enjoyable. I have only come across your channel a few days ago, and I am binge watching all your videos in order from oldest to newest! Great job👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
This is one of my favorite episodes.
Thank you very much for this encouragement, John!
You can check the Tintin episode here; the parrot plot kicks in at around 5:20

I was a fan of other crime/murder mystery shows which was how I ended up sitting down to watch it, and I've never looked back
Can't wait to hear what jokes you have lined up for Jarvis Goodland and co. next!
Thank you very much, Adam, for such a kind comment! I agree, keeping his name as Dog is very fitting and something to make you smile. That's amazing A Stitch in Crime was your first episode. One of my favorites! Thanks for sharing the circumstances, too. Many people can't remember that part.

Thank you very much for your kindness, Weston ❤️ Any Old Port in a Storm is a masterpiece!
Thank you very much for this great comment. I'm glad you rate the episodes as highly as I do. Also, thank you for the 'bank vault' explanation 😊

@@WatchitforDays my pleasure. Discovering your channel is honestly my favorite thing on the internet this week.
I really love Columbo's portrayal in this episode. He recognizes Alex as the killer almost immediately and spends most of the episode just messing with him Bugs Bunny style. Like when Alex walks into Columbo sitting in his expensive car, he definitely did that on purpose just to annoy him.
I absolutely agree!
I used to watch Columbo when I was 12. I loved the way he tormented the murderers during the show. All of the Sunday and Wednesday Mystery Movies were fun, my favorites were Columbo and Banacek.
Thank you very much for this insight!
I’m still amazed of the detail you show with each review. I couldn’t wait to hear this review because this episode is one of my favorites. As usual you did a masterful job. Thank you so much from one Columbo fan to another. Just one more thing……..😉😉😉

You are so welcome my friend And thank you again for the very professional and entertaining reviews. Be well. ❤️🙂
I think probably the biggest plot hole that I noticed was that Jennifer was at home leisurely playing the piano, and Alex shows up, all relaxed, and even says “Hey, let’s have a drink.”
They’re both supposed to be at the concert hall getting ready to perform! Why wasn’t she at least getting ready to leave for the show?
That is a fantastic question
I love your research on the cars. I love the classics and you are quite accurate. Nicely done!
I sure appreciate that, thank you very much!

I no longer watch it every night, but I hop around in the series, when I’m in the mood, and I watch and rewatch all your videos - you are my favourite Columbo UA-camr by far, for your pure passion for the art form that is Columbo!

I really appreciate that, Barry, thank you very much! Yes, I have seen Mikey and Nicky. I enjoyed it a lot. Very interesting film, for sure.

@@WatchitforDays You loved my wording this much.
Thank you!

Well thank you very much for this wonderfully encouraging comment! I'm so happy you enjoy the videos 💕
Thank you for this extremely kind comment!! You're the best 😊
Great job, love the detail! For me, that filler scene about how much the guy makes is the most memorable. Real chemistry between those two.
Thank you very much! I agree with you, that scene is full of chemistry.
I think you do an excellent job!

Well, I'm sure glad you're here! You're definitely not alone.
That sure was some intense crazy conducting by John Cassavetes and oh those bedroom eyes! Thanks for this, I really enjoyed it.
I'm so happy you enjoyed it!
Just one more thing...
I never understood how after the murder, back in his dressing room, Alex could first remove his jacket, and then put it back on, and not notice that his carnation was missing at that time....but that’s just me. I get these things in my head, and I can’t sleep 😛
Another great video!! I’m really enjoying these!
I agree with you. I was awake all night thinking the same thing.
😊 Thank you for the kind words❤️
@@WatchitforDays No kidding??!
So did I, but I rejected the idea.......people lose flowers ALL the time, and in this case, in this case he would only have realized it could tie him to the crime once he saw it at the piano foot.
Now when I watch reruns of “Regular Columbo” episodes. I find myself thinking of and missing your comments. You’re a very special person.
@@MrXminus1 aww... Thank you very much!
Thanks! I just found this channel and watched two episodes back to back. They're way more entertaining than they have any right to be. I'm looking forward to watching future entries as well as catching up on your back-catalog.
You agree extremely kind, thank you, Karl!
The leaning handprints in the garage toilet..iv never ever noticed that lol and it IS so funny
I get a chuckle every time I see it 😊
I’m all caught up. I honestly enjoyed these as much as the actual episode. I don’t know how you get all your info but it is so so so fun to get all the actor and location history. I can’t wait for the next one!
Thank you very much for your kindness and encouragement!
Oh yes, definitely, I agree with you. The scene with them at the piano is one of the best scenes!
I agree with your point. The back and forth between Columbo and the killer at the piano is pure genius. The acting in that scene was phenomenal!!!!
Thank you very much :)
That is a good idea to have paypal as an option. If you ever decide you still want to send a gift, I have created a Watch It For Days paypal option: PayPal.Me/WatchItForDays
@@WatchitforDays Hi Shonna. Done! Paypal was a breeze. Thank you for excellent videos! Moe
@@1234maissa You are shockingly kind and generous, thank you very much ❤️!
Excellent as always. Very interesting and informative! I also like the cast recap from other episodes at the end. You put a creative touch to these that makes them very entertaining. I especially laughed at the money images. LOL 💰💵💰💵💰
Thank you very much, Chris! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video and got a laugh 😊
Incredible amount of research from you. I give you 6 Columbo's!
Thank you very much! ❤️
John Cassavetes movies are worth a watch. They are an acquired taste, not for everyone, but he had real talent. His movies weren't just self indulgent wastes of time. He was a perfect foil for Columbo, because playing amoral characters was one of his strengths as an actor.
I totally agree with you
After a crazy and exhausting week, this was what the doctor prescribed.
I discovered your videos yesterday. You are fabulous. A great wit as well. Really enjoying them.
I'm so glad you're here, Ben! Thank you very much
I really enjoy your Columbo reviews . I noticed a silver Rolls Royce in the movie that looked similar to the one Dick Van Dyke drove in Negative Reaction .
Thank you very much! Great connection to the Dick Van Dyke episode 😊
Thank you very much for sharing this insight! Much appreciated :)
That's never been an issue to Columbo, of course - back then, they had different rules for evidence and such ;)
That brightened my day when I was writing this - I hope it does yours, too! ;)
@@davieb9174 My day is definitely brightened! Thank you, again, for sharing :)
Another easy way is by using tracing paper over the original. Not so technical, but effective, I think
On a positive "note" you did a really good job on this episode. BTW Don Knight appeared on an episode of Banacek and the role he played was that of a bigamist.
Terrific actor. Check him out on Mission:Impossible, and Night Gallery.
Thank you for sharing the Don Knight references 😊
I really appreciate you taking the time to write this memory down for me to read! I would love to tour all the mansions in the whole Columbo series.
Huge Aussie 🇦🇺 Columbo fan, My mum introduced me to this show many years ago, this year is 19 years since she passed ❤but I've bought The complete series on DVD. ❤❤❤ I absolutely love your channel. Love from❤❤❤ 🇦🇺
I'm so glad you're here, my Australian friend! ❤️
I know what you mean when you say "I liked a world that doesn't exist anymore."
Thank you for sharing what you liked about Pennsylvania. I appreciate it very much ❤️
