@@WatchitforDays I love the original series. But as this channel points out (in a very entertaining way), there are nits. I always found this ending a bit contrived. How did Columbo know what he was touching when he reached into the bag? It's almost as if the writers came up with the ending first, and backed tracked to make Columbo make all the right moves.

This is, by far, my favorite Columbo takedown. I agree that Ross Martin's acting is what makes this episode. He is just such a smarmy, arrogant, pompous, weaselly little creep this whole episode (how could Artemus Gordon betray me so?). The killing his uncle, and then the accomplice/girlfriend is standard villainy, but framing his aunt for it, then telling the lawyer to have the house searched to prove she's innocent. And then he's all "Edna, how could you?" And his sputtering and shocked into silence when Columbo reveals he is wearing gloves! Pure gold!

The look on his face when Columbo pulls out his hands, revealing the gloves, is PRICELESS. And this is one of my favorites of the whole series as well, mainly because of that ending. It's perfectly set up and perfectly executed. This is the kind of thing I aspire to create in my own writing.
@@WatchitforDays I'm presently working on a flintlock fantasy story setting that I hope to get other writers and artists to help me create stories in it as a shared universe. I think the simplest description would be Lord of the Rings combined with Pirates of the Caribbean and a lot of RPG settings. So, lots of tricorn hats and black powder weapons but also lots of magic. One of the main ideas I'm trying to explore with it is "magic meets the Industrial Revolution." (Orcs in my setting can be just as attractive as any other race and they're not universally evil. Thank you again for another excellent review. For some reason this just showed up today. Have no idea why it took so long. Want to let you know of all the reviews out there of Colombo yours is the most detailed and the best. keep up the good work
You are abolutely correct that almost nobody really notices the hands in the pockets during the final scene the first time you watch this episode - and I think there's a good (and pretty brilliant) explanation for why that is. It's because Columbo is "supposed" to have been basically spanked by Dale and the lawyer going over his head to force the search. I can actually remember thinking the first time I watched the scene that Columbo looked like a guy who had been "put in his place" so to speak. Walking around wih his hands in his pockets, kind of all tightly compressed - it looks like contrition, or perhaps embarrasment, and it works in a psychological sense given the circumstances so it isn't as odd or jarring as it might otherwise be. So the final reveal is a really great turn-around where it changes from contrition to control. Columbo was in charge the entire time. These deep dives are superb. Very nice work...and I really enjoy your narration. You have a great understated sense of humor.
Mary Wickes had a long career in movies. The first time I saw her was in an Abbott & Costello movie. (I don't remember the title) If you look closely you can see her playing a harp (I think) in the club Ricky works at on I love Lucy.
Yea!!!! You’re back! Watching the episode now. Love the way you catch the most insignificant detail, like the painting used in another episode. Keep up the great work.
You used the part where Dale describes the artist as “penultimate.” That’s been a long standing laugh with a friend. There’s ULTIMATE, but even better is the PENULTIMATE. Lol. Do you think the writers were trying to make the character look silly, or did someone not know the meaning of the word?
I really should have made a joke about Dale saying penultimate because there have been several people in the comments pointing that one out to me, lol. I wouldn't be surprised if the writers used that word on purpose because most people do not know what penultimate means (at least, I thought they didn't...) so it would be a joke for those with an ultimate vocabulary.
Oh my goodness! You are the first to alert me of this, thank you! Usually they send me an email saying they've released it but I guess today they are silent. Thank you for letting me know 💕
This is one-off my favourites. The main protagonist is superb, he has the perfect combination of arrogance, charm and a kind of American chic, he talks as if he has lived in Europe and has a more refined US accent. I love the way you add your own commentary about each episode, even down to the kind of music the decreased was playing. This nuanced detail is missed by most of the audience.
Hello, my friend! Been MIA for a while but I made sure to see what my favorite UA-camr has been up to and you did not disappoint as usual. I have to agree, this is the best gotcha of them all and the killer's blubbering, almost childlike, reaction really sold it. I was one of the ones who also didnt ask myself "Why are his hands in his pockets"? It just never occurred to me and that's the brilliance of the writing. It's like they're anticipating what we will (and will not) notice. Your attention to even the most minute details is once again is unmatched. And thank YOU again for being so cool. Until next time...🔎
Geez!!! I just found you… You Are Great!!! Your reviews are fantastic!!! I can’t wait to watch them all!!! Especially “The Bye-Bye Sky-High IQ Murder Case” and “Murder Under Glass” I bought a vintage co2 wine opener after watching that one!!! No, no fugu… Thank You!!! Awesome review yet again 👏 The attention to detail is superb and the care and consideration you put into these reviews is first class. I especially enjoy the comments around Dales's jokes at the exhibition. When I attend events I often try telling a feeble joke only to then laugh hysterically at myself until either people walk away nervously or I'm asked to leave 🤣

Great episode with many notable actors and actresses. Ross Martin and group hit it out of the park. I was watching when this first aired and it really took everybody by surprise. The legend of Columbo was growing each week because the episodes were so good and the casting was amazing. Thanks for another thoroughly enjoying review.
Please keep making these awesome reviews, observations, coming-You are so funny! "with his Elvis shades on". Your knowledge, creativity, and humor have brought watching one of my all-time favorite shows to a whole new level of fun. Thank you.
Cough. Yes, about the pastels. I'm a professional artist, working primarily in pastels and watercolors. What a lot of people think of as 'drawings' are classed as 'paintings', even though they have quite fine lines. The point is that the medium (the substance in which the pigment is applied) does not by itself determine whether a work is a painting or a drawing. And often, there is no real distinction you can make between the two. It's a judgment call : )
I'm so impressed with these deep dive reviews you create. I can see how much work you put into them, but it's also obvious how talented you are. You have a fantastic eye for detail, catching all these things I rarely notice myself. You would have made a great detective like Columbo! Being a longtime Columbo fan, I truly enjoy your reviews. Thank you very much.
This is one of my most favorite episodes...and I completely agree, Ross Martin is amazing, his acting is just fantastic...Mary Wicks too.....just so well written....and just a fantastic great ending....and Barney Phillips too! And Don Amechi and Kim Hunter!
Columbo is probably my favorite of the tv detectives. I love these videos of your and the facts you list as well as your quirky sense of humor. Thanks for making these and i am looking forward to many more from you!
You're right, and Dale didn't complain about that, so clearly he wrote it himself. I think it was meant to be "consummate", though it is the sort of pretentious word Dale might have chosen to make himself look smart.
I'm currently binging your amazingly detailed reviews, and as a Dutch Columbo fan I'm proud to hear that you're half Dutch! Bedankt voor deze geweldige serie en ik trakteer je op een kop koffie.☕😊
Thank you very much for videos. I am huge fan of columbo series (prefer series in 70s), this is also one of my beloved. I use your videos for learning english. Here in Russia Columbo was shown on the tv screens in the 90s for first time, it was my childhood.

Just re-watched your 'Suitable for Framing' synopsis again. Luv it! Your's are the most comprehensive dissections of Columbo episodes available on UA-cam. This episode is one of the few times Columbo gets called out for his stalkery. Dale said "You came all the way out here to tell me that??!!?" Priceless! Wish more of his victims woulda asked him that question more often. Because the reason(s) for his incessant visits (just happening to bump into -or- just in the neighborhood) were often never explained. Are most homicides solved by the police detective just loitering around a suspect 24/7?
I just discovered you today. You are terrific. Thank you for your content!!! Definity subscribed with a bell notification. I can't wait to hear more of your research, knowledge, and reverence for these old shows!!!!
Another fine review. I will never be able to watch Columbo again without thinking what I missed or trying to remember where I had seen the extras before. That is the most enjoyable way of spoiling the entertainment value for me 😅. Kudos.
I just discovered your channel yesterday (and subscribed to it), and this is the second video of yours I've watched. I grew up watching Columbo, and recently I watched all of them for free online. I love see see analyses of my favorite movies and shows. I think your commentary is very amusing. I'll be watching more over my next few dinners.
Ross Martin was a brilliant comic talent. They are always the best dramatic actors... they have that range. Ross was perfection in this episode. Undiagnosed (apparently) heart disease took him away from us way too soon... just 61 years old. That Marylin apartment is not on LaCienege.. but blocks west on Doheney. My friends lived in that very one for a few years. It's been torn down. I love looking at Don Ameche. There's even a hit song that mentions him (and Clark Gable) in a very thirsty way, from the days when he was the top Matinee Idol. You just know the scene is important when he is in it. Those groovy apartments are out by Capitol Records. I think I see my parent's station wagon (from before I came along) And my grandma's sedan. Just like theirs anyway. Those buildings are still there. Looking all mid-century and cool. Mary Wicks is a NATIONAL TREASURE! Walt Disney valued her highly! I discovered a rarely discussed role of hers on UA-cam from a Disney TV show called "Annette" from 1957 where she plays the wisest wise cracking house keeper ever. She was the first to play Mary Poppins! She was also the animation model for Cruella DeVille a mere 9.5 years before shooting Columbo. Can you imagine? They got lucky when they found her available for this gig. Here is a perfect short documentary about Mary: ua-cam.com/video/0yFM2CH98HI/v-deo.html
This is one of my favorites as well, probably top 5. I am excited for when you get to season 4 and my favorite episode, Negative Reaction. I am stoked to have found your channel as I am a huge Columbo fan, and your videos are a wonderful complement to each episode.
Thank you for the all your time and effort. I learned so many things I can't count them. I'm a huge Wild Wild West fan as well. Ross Martin was amazing in that series. Robert Conrad who played in another Columbo was too.
The music at the art exhibition contains at least some (I can't quite tell how much) of Modeste Mussorgsky's Promenade from the collection Pictures at an Exhibition, which is meant to convey to composer's experience of walking around and looking at paintings at an exhibition. Promenade specifically represents him entering the exhibition.
Seeing these "Columbo" episodes brings back memories of my Mom watching them every Sunday night, or whatever night it was they were on tv. Mom was a regular viewer of the "NBC Mystery Movie" series and "Columbo" was her favorite. Thanks for bringing back some good memories from my childhood 🙂
Your remarks are hilarious, wholesome and cheeky. I attended art school btb, so in addition to being poor, I think I can answer your Rembrandt question as per your request. Rembrandt was a notoriously eccentric and rebellious artist in his day and did not do things by the Academic book , so to speak. According to Art historian Filippo Baldinucci in 1686, "He disdained everybody and wouldn’t allow the greatest monarch in the world to interrupt him when he was working".
From one Super Fan to another, your work here is outstanding…from your great research in to the actors, to the details regarding props and such, you have managed to inform & inthrall me greatly…thank you!
My father regretted not having the money to take pictures of me as a kid (there's a handful maybe). Years later when he had a little bit more money, he bought a fancy camera for my brother's birth. He took hundreds, probably thousands, of photos of my brother and everyone in general. I got so annoyed by this since it would take him a long time to get set up.
Your attention to detail is astounding, I particularly enjoyed you rendition of "everything you need to know about being Dutch" . It felt like I was there.

Your comment was a joy to read. Very well put! Thank you for taking the time to type it out 😊 Also, thank you for your very kind words!
Mary Wickes had a long career in movies.
The first time I saw her was in an Abbott & Costello movie. (I don't remember the title)
If you look closely you can see her playing a harp (I think) in the club Ricky works at on I love Lucy.
Yea!!!! You’re back! Watching the episode now. Love the way you catch the most insignificant detail, like the painting used in another episode. Keep up the great work.
Thank you very much, Dan !
Oh wow, glad to see it's back up!🎉🎉
Oh my goodness! You are the first to alert me of this, thank you! Usually they send me an email saying they've released it but I guess today they are silent. Thank you for letting me know 💕
@@WatchitforDays Ah, wow! Happy to let you know!😁
This is one-off my favourites.
Ross Martin was wonderful in this episode. I'm happy you enjoyed the video 😊
Until next time...🔎
Awwwww, thank you for this wonderful comment, Evan! You just made my whole day 😊
Your great work really brings these episodes to life. Thank you very much
Wow, what a kind thing to say... Thank you, Bob :)
Agree totally, this episode is the best of the best, just amazing! Thanks for your great review!!
Thank you, Dan!
You are a great narrator and editor and researcher!!!
Thank you very much, Loren! I am so glad you're here❤️
Awesome review yet again 👏
The attention to detail is superb and the care and consideration you put into these reviews is first class.
I especially enjoy the comments around Dales's jokes at the exhibition. When I attend events I often try telling a feeble joke only to then laugh hysterically at myself until either people walk away nervously or I'm asked to leave 🤣
Thank you, Rob 😊 That means a lot to me!
You know, I am very often trying to crack jokes with others and it's not uncommon for me to be the only one laughing... So, I understand 😁
just loved it. i am enjoying the rhythm of your commentary. This includes the investigation of the minor actors. your kinda solving mysteries within a mystery. Next level review style. I do not believe anyone else has it yet.
Thank you very much! Your encouragement means a lot to me :)
I love the ending of this episode! This is one of my favorite channels for my Columbo fix! Keep up the good work!
Thank you for that encouragement ❤️
I've literally watch every Columbo episode as well as every Columbo movie and this is so ingenious please much much more please its so funny ' thank you so much ' : )
I'm happy you are enjoying the videos.
Wonderful, thank you for the time and care you put into these x I have watched Columbo for ever, often now it is on in the background while I am faffing about, so to really watch your take on the episodes and see it all in detail is a joy 😊 Thank you again x
Thank you very much, I'm so happy you enjoy them❤️
Love the reviews! Please keep up the great job!
Thank you very much!
your channel is total comfort food! Thank you for the time and details you put into every one.
@@BonniciAlexia I appreciate that very much ❤️
@@WatchitforDays @TheBehaviorPanel should do a collab with you! Maybe analyze some body language on Columbo, like the kicking of the door scene - haha! Would be an incredible collab of my 2 fav channels, so me just being selfish!
I love your analysis of Columbo episodes. (I watched Columbo religiously when originally broadcast, and can’t get enough of the great writing and acting).
You have a critical eye that does not miss any minor detail. Your sarcasm and humor (and very pleasant voice) are entertaining. Thank you.
Thank you so very much for this wonderfully encouraging comment!
Great episode with many notable actors and actresses. Ross Martin and group hit it out of the park. I was watching when this first aired and it really took everybody by surprise. The legend of Columbo was growing each week because the episodes were so good and the casting was amazing. Thanks for another thoroughly enjoying review.
I'm so happy you enjoyed the review ❤️
Please keep making these awesome reviews, observations, coming-You are so funny! "with his Elvis shades on". Your knowledge, creativity, and humor have brought watching one of my all-time favorite shows to a whole new level of fun. Thank you.
Thank you very much, John! I intend to keep going allll the way to the end of Columbo ❤️
@@WatchitforDays Great!
Father Dowling was beyond underrated! As a young Columbo fan I want to commend you for this channel! Truly amazing work!!!
I really appreciate that, thank you very much!!
This is news to me... Thank you for sharing this new insight!
@@WatchitforDays Oh, glad not to be a trivia-bore for once! : )
You're absolutely right. The individual particles of pastels behave more like a liquid than a solid when working. You paint with dust.
Thank you very much, William! That really means a lot to me
This is one of my most favorite episodes...and I completely agree, Ross Martin is amazing, his acting is just fantastic...Mary Wicks too.....just so well written....and just a fantastic great ending....and Barney Phillips too! And Don Amechi and Kim Hunter!
Yes, it's a superb piece of television!
Thank you very much
I think I’ve rewatched all your videos as many times as I have rewatched Columbo episodes!
Aww... You just made my day. Thank you very much, my something else friend ❤️
I really enjoy listening to your humorous analysis, while I'm drawing! Looking forward to the next one
I really appreciate that! Thank you very much :) What do you like to draw?
Columbo is probably my favorite of the tv detectives. I love these videos of your and the facts you list as well as your quirky sense of humor. Thanks for making these and i am looking forward to many more from you!
Thank you, Mark! What a wonderfully kind comment. I am about half way done with the next episode, "Lady in Waiting."
I'm digging your breakdowns. You are making these fun to watch.
Thank you, Darryl! I appreciate it ❤️
I'm really enjoying your reviews and all of the trivia you share, your videos make me love Columbo even more
That's wonderful, Mary! I'm so happy you're enjoying them
If Goya was "the penultimate artist" he wasn't the "last of the Old Masters", he was NEXT to the last.
You are right! lol. Penultimate wasn't exactly the correct word.
Franklin was the ultimate, that's why.
@@johnraymond7176 lol, that's right!
Lol I just said that out loud when that scene occurred
You're right, and Dale didn't complain about that, so clearly he wrote it himself. I think it was meant to be "consummate", though it is the sort of pretentious word Dale might have chosen to make himself look smart.
Really, really great job. I love your sensibility on our cultural heritage. It's unusually sharp. You have a gift. All the best.
You are extremely kind, thank you very much, my friend!
I really enjoy these reviews. Keep up the good work.
Thank you very much, Antonio :)
I'm currently binging your amazingly detailed reviews, and as a Dutch Columbo fan I'm proud to hear that you're half Dutch! Bedankt voor deze geweldige serie en ik trakteer je op een kop koffie.☕😊
I'm so happy you're here!! Dankjewel voor de koffie ❤️
“Gives her a good one” had my cracking up. I’ve been loving these commentaries, and cannot wait until you get to “Any Old Port In A Storm”!
Thank you very much! I'm so happy to hear you got a laugh out of it ❤️
That breakdown was as enjoyable as the actual episode. Beautiful work, Ms Days. Beautiful work.
Thank you very much 😊 That means a lot to me
Love this episode too.
The gloves are a work of genius.
20/20 - and having the wonderful Mary Wickes in it is the icing on the cake.
Absolutely!
I love this chanel! When I was having terrible panic attacks this was my cure…I love Columbo and I love your work! Thank you!!!
Aww... I'm so glad you're here 😊
Very creative ending with the scroll, and the sorry and thank you clips :)
Thank you very much :)
You are one of the very few content “creators” that actually creates content. Fantastic supplemental information…..
Thank you very much, troybirch :) I try
Thank you very much for videos. I am huge fan of columbo series (prefer series in 70s), this is also one of my beloved. I use your videos for learning english. Here in Russia Columbo was shown on the tv screens in the 90s for first time, it was my childhood.
Your English is very good! I'm happy to meet you, my Russian Columbo friend.
We await your episodes like we did the originals!
The research and commentary breathe new life into old art, many thanks for your under valued efforts ❤
Thank you for your amazing kindness, Dave
Once again our thoughts align. What an ending! I love how the episode just ends on Dale Kingston's panicked, devastated, recriminations.
I agree!!
Thank you for putting these together. I am going through the series now (bought the DVD box set) and am enjoying watching your summaries.
I'm so glad you enjoy the videos. Have fun with your Columbo marathon!
La Cienega (see-ENN-eh-gah) has, for the last half-century, been host to dozens of art galleries between Sunset and Wilshire.
That is good information that I did not know.
Couldn’t agree more this is among the all time best Columbo gotcha endings. And a great supporting cast
That's for sure!
This is great work you're doing here there's so many Colombo fans out there including myself and it's really cool that someone is giving us all this information. Keep it up 👍
I'm so glad you enjoy it!
I really appreciate your kindness! Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the episode, too 😊
Just bought a cup of coffee - R/ Your biggest fan…. Can’t wait for the next one.
The best coffee ever! Thank you ☕
I just discovered you today. You are terrific. Thank you for your content!!! Definity subscribed with a bell notification. I can't wait to hear more of your research, knowledge, and reverence for these old shows!!!!
Aww, thank you very much!!!
Another fine review. I will never be able to watch Columbo again without thinking what I missed or trying to remember where I had seen the extras before. That is the most enjoyable way of spoiling the entertainment value for me 😅. Kudos.
I'm sure happy you enjoy the videos :)
Thank you very much! Columbo is my favorite show. I hope your dinners will be delicious!
Great video!
Thx for making these!
Thank you for watching!
Thank you so much for taking the time to write this amazing comment! I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
thanks for the link
enjoyed it
This channel is full of the kind of love that i have for the show. Thank you for knowing all this stuff about it!
I'm so happy you enjoy the videos❤️
This is one of my favorites as well, probably top 5. I am excited for when you get to season 4 and my favorite episode, Negative Reaction.
I am stoked to have found your channel as I am a huge Columbo fan, and your videos are a wonderful complement to each episode.
Thank you very much, I'm so glad you're here! I also love Negative Reaction ❤️
Thank you for the all your time and effort. I learned so many things I can't count them. I'm a huge Wild Wild West fan as well. Ross Martin was amazing in that series. Robert Conrad who played in another Columbo was too.
I'm so happy you enjoyed the video!
Very interesting! Thank you for sharing this information :)
I'm so happy to hear you enjoy them 😊
I love your explanations. Especially the one about Dutch Uncle! You have a great voice for these presentations.
Aww, thank you very much! I appreciate that ❤️
I love these videos. The detail and your delivery are perfect. Thank you
Thank you very much!
36:17 This part always cracks me up. "Edna how could you?......Oh you better not say another word"
Me too !
As always, your reviews are so entertaining that it's as interesting as watching the episode for the first time.
Another great breakdown! Ross Martin was great in this one!
Thank you very much! Yes, Ross Martin played his part perfectly.
Your wit and analogies to other film scenes is excellent. Thanks.
Thank you very much!
Thank you very much for your kind words AND for helping me answer the Rembrandt question!
From one Super Fan to another, your work here is outstanding…from your great research in to the actors, to the details regarding props and such, you have managed to inform & inthrall me greatly…thank you!
I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
Just realized after always loving it that it's Ross Martin that makes it work.
Definitely
@@WatchitforDays I wrote that before hearing your own take. This was a great video your channel will grow.
I enjoyed the detail and depth of this review! I subbed and will be watching more of your reviews, keep it up!
Thank you very much, George!
16:46 the statue "Spirit of a Dead Dog" from Playback is in the corner.
Oh my goodness, I didn't see that!! Wow, very observant of you, good job!
You are spot-on as usual..A golden era episode of the highest calibre!
Thank you, Leon!
This is a very interesting story about your father. Thank you for sharing :)
Your attention to detail is astounding, I particularly enjoyed you rendition of "everything you need to know about being Dutch" . It felt like I was there.
I am so happy to know you enjoyed the video!
