On "My Car Story" we're in the Northern AZ on 6-23-19.
We're looking at a 1969 Triumph GT6+ Group 44 Factory SCCA Race Car in White Paint and Green Stripes. The car features the factory straight 6 cylinder engine and “Twin H-Power” carburation.
The car's Owner is Matt Frankel. Matt’s had this car since 2014. Matt shares he enjoys winning race cars and this car has the race wins in its history.
ENJOY!
As the guy who restored this car, it was fun to see it again. And yes, it was fun to drive at places like Road Atlanta and The Monterey Historics.
The GT 6 is one of the best looking cars ever! Thank you for showing this.
I raced a 1970 GT6+ in the 1970's. First time out finished second in the pouring rain on slicks another lap and it could have been a win. Best sounding car on the track according to the spectators and made their heads turn every lap as she screamed by like a banshee. Just found another 1969 GT6+ street car in 2016 as I never got her out of my system. Lovely on the road and track.... Matt, your Group 44 car was my inspiration during my early teens and I converted my street car into a dedicated racer... Thanks Lou!
as a triumph fan damm i wish that was mine, lucky guy.
Definitely won the sound competition, in my book
I'm a long time Triumph fan and follower of their racing heritage... Saw this car displayed at Laguna Seca some years ago and am pleased to see it has a good home.
Thumbs up. Who doesn't like a GT6?!
My dad raced a gt6 here in NZ. It had the 2.5PI and 4spd with O/D.
I saw Group 44 race at Lime Rock Park. I most likely saw this car race! The cars were also shown at The NY International Auto Show. I might have a pic of this car from there.
I actually owned one (stock). It was used and needed restoration but the $$$$ just weren't there. Signed it over to my brother and he finished it. A great car to drive.
What a terrific car, and great video. From 1975 to 1982 I lived next door to Bob Tullius in Herndon, VA. I had a stock 69 GT6 + at the time, and Bob would always honk his horn and wave when we passed each other driving in the area. He was a very nice man, and he really loved winning races in all of his different British Leyland cars. Bob was the person from whom I first heard the quotes: "Lucas, the Prince of darkness", and "Why do Brits drink warm beer? Because Lucas makes refrigerators".
Buddy a mine owned of those in the 1980s one of the funnest cars I was ever in👍🏼😎🇨🇦
I was surprised to see what looked like stock zenith carbs mounted. Maybe they're the bigger ones from the TR6. Noticed it had a dual brake master setup along with the overflow tank. I've got a 68 i've been restoring for awhile, nice to see that they're finally getting some love from the car community.
Fun times and a fun car to drive. I had a blast. Mike Downs.
Oh I’m a huge fan of the gt6
Domestic or import, pristine or well-loved, Lou always loves his cars. Never a bad word.
Victory for Triumph. Someone had to say it ;)
Wonderful right down to 7k red line !
That’s a fantastic piece of history
All the Bob Tullius British cars (Triumphs and Jags only as I remember from R&T magazines...) had those green stripes on the front!
