Great car, I had one just like this one except for the exterior color. In June of 1973 I got a phone call that my Dad had just been rushed to the hospital with a stroke. I was 62 miles away at school and I made that drive home in 27 minutes. Wonderful memories of British sports cars, over the years owned 4 Triumph's, 2 MG's, & 3 Jaguars, loved 'em all!

Lovely car, bought one in 1969 from Ensine Motors in West Toronto. Mine was Jasmine yellow. Had a short lived blast in the summer of 69 unfortunately totalled it in a head on collision with a chevy impala, so you could imagine. The chevy drove over me, taking the hood with it. God was watching over me that day. Not even a scratch. When I called the garage to ask about the damage, the guy told me that whenever he had a car in that condition brought in, the driver was never able to talk about it. From New to totalling was exactly 4 months! Still brings great memories going up and down to Crystal Beach from Toronto. Oh one thing that was never mentioned that the 69 GT6+ came with positraction!

Great video. My favourite car!!! To this day I've never driven a better car, drove from London to Newcastle in one and have never enjoyed driving so much since. Planted at high speed, mind you mine had dolomite sprint wheels which are wider and had twin weber carbs. Power to weight ratio; hard to beat. So light you could push start her solo no problem..

I had a 1969 GT6 in 1980. I bought it from 3 lesbians that used stove bolts to attach the bell housing. I could work on the engine while sitting on a front tire. Lots more power than my 1960 MGA or 1967 Sunbeam Alpine. Right now I have a BMW mini S that my wife want to sell because I am too old to drive.

Too many people make a major mistake throwing a heavy viscosity oil in the Gerebox you better be really careful what you use there because it just heats it up like sin and burns through the gears!! If I were you I’d call Rimmer Brothers or call the Heritage club the deals with British Leyland car is jags Aston Martin so on and so forth don’t just add heavy viscosity oil to that gearbox you’re gonna hear more and bearing noise shortly plus the fact that noise your hearing could be the intermediate input shaft! It’s a very similar sound and almost very similar type of vibration in the stick you better check that out too and start searching around for one because if you catch it before it’s too late they can be rebuilt but if it’s too late good luck finding another one! The reason I’m telling you that because I went through that very same experience and I’ve spent almost 8 months before I found one that was even salvageable!

      Totally agree.
I tried explaining the same about gearbox and diff oil to a chap the other day. Was like talking to myself, he threw in some of his neighbours gear oil for his tractor and now his diff is buggered. Even in modern cars putting GL5 oil say in an MX5 gearbox instead of GL4 can cause disaster.

There’s really only two differences actually three differences but only two are noticeable with the eye between the mark one in the mark two!
The one difference you cannot see is the engine head studs are a bit larger in the Mark to supposedly an engineering update.
The second is in this WAS an engineering error in my opinion, they switched the rear end suspension from a swing axle to a floating rotor the folding rotor has a propensity of grenade in it did in my GT six Mark GT 6+ Mark two!
Finally the only other difference it’s a cosmetic difference and it’s on the bonnet they louvered the sides of the bonnet behind the wheel well arches..
And that is it essentially, the Mark one and the Mark tow look exactly the same otherwise!
They’re both great looking cars it’s just if I had a mark two I would change out the rear suspension from floating rotor to a swing axle!
      Cheers

I always admired the GT6. The styling was somewhat evocative of the XK-E, but it actually looked better in a couple of areas. The XK-E had two major design fails. the first was that the windshield was too upright, and the second was that the top of the wheel well arches stuck out so much that it made the track look skinny. The GT6 had more slope to the windshied and the track was more even with the wheel arches. It is a very attractive little car. I even prefer the look over the 240Z but the 240z was a better car.

Certainly an excellent Gt6+. It is odd though that it has rust on the rear of the right rocker panel. Beautiful engine bay. Remember the GT6 engine came before the 2.5 TR250 and TR6 engine. The gas cap needs to turned 90 degrees.

The front suspension on those cars are pretty much all the same throughout most of the years. Correct me if I’m wrong but the rear end I believe is a floating rotor rear in and they’re freaking garbage.!! If it does have the floating rotary Ren I’d scrap that put in her swing axle like they had in the Mark one in earlier Mark twos and went back to them in the Mark three series but it was after though first quarter of the Mark to production they went to that floating rotors I hate used to have a 69 GT 6+ that’s exactly what happened to me also!

    • @racketman2u
      @racketman2u 3 місяці тому

I presume by "floating rotor" you mean the rubber u-joint and wishbone of the MK3; it is pretty universally accepted that the revision was far superior to the swing axle of the earlier models (a la Spitfire) geometry-wise, the handling was much improved.

Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned
from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the
German Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025
on by reducing petrol stations to only one state operated central gas
station per city. From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be
banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine
and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027
on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any
    more!!!!

Was hard to see in the video, but it appeared to have the stalk for the overdrive. Personally, I think the + (69-70) is the best looking. I've owned one from both years. Definitely needs overdrive if you're going any distance outside of town (had on my 69, not on my 70, so I know what it's like).

Bought a GT6 on April Fools Day in 1967 [obviously a "Mark I" but it was not called that]. My everyday car until I was assigned to Germany. After my return it was an occasional car, which now needs some serious work. Still in my garage. Beside my Miata. :-)
