I still remain astounded that GW never capitalised on making kits for the Dawn of War buildings.
GW was very different in 2004 and also plastic moulding tech wasn't as advanced.
Pretty sure they had templates for dawn of war terrain in white dwarf issues back in the day.
Greedy not smart, thats how GW rolls.
Look at tamiya kits from 80s, some are still sold and are very detailed. Something like those buildings would be a piece of cake
@@pronumeral1446 You really should look up some of the scale model moulds from that era. A square building is absolutely nothing compared to some of the cockpits or landing gears or engine sculpts or tank sprockets on model kits from that era.
I absolutely agree that you can have a ton of fun on boxes and cans but there's just something so much more immersive about beautiful terrain. Love the DoW vibe.
The nostalgia... I'll never forget the games that introduced me to the 40k universe...
I like how he said the cardboard looks terrible but I'd happily use terrain like that
Cardboard is what my orca and manta are mostly made out of. It was cheap and easy to draw on. Then just use blue stuff to mold in and around the gaps. Once you paint it no one is ever going to know.
Seriously! I now have an overwhelming desire to make the IG base buildings out of cardboard :D
Never Underestimate a Man who got tabled
The possibilities are "LIMITLESS!"
The halo CE looking color scheme captures the early 2000’s aesthetic quite well 😉
This was just Epic! He brought the DOW 1 structures to life. Very Cool!
It's funny because I never got around to applying my draftsman skills across to modelling for 40k terrain, I probably should have a go. Love your design+build process with cardboard too, they ended up looking nice just by themselves!
I would love to see some DoW Necron and Tyranid terrain. I always played Necrons in Dark Crusade, and their terrain always looked so cool.
NECRONS!!!
oh my Gawd. Please do the necron terrains next. I love dawn of war necron terrains especially generators.
@@devileanblack Well, they already did, search for a previous video, like "5 pieces of terrain" or something like that, they made them in both normal scratchbuilt and in STL form, then released the plans and files for both, the only thing they'd miss would be lights, and some cheap tealights painted green would do the job well :)
@@jherazob thank you so much
looks amazing! I love it! Also, double pro tip, 12:34 get some reverse tweezers!
personally id love to build the critical control point from dawn of war only with the arms fro the requisition point on it (to hold the ring in place). it would make for good ground level objectives and the ring will show you the minimal distance you need to be to capture it.
Oh nooo! really missed out on the opportunity to get a great full-board camera shot to see it all in one go :(
EoB somehow ALWAYS has the issue of painting stuff and making half-hour videos on it, then show the end result for a whopping 10 seconds at best.
Thank you so much to share this experience guys, it's been fantastic to see how you have grow as a YT Channel!
This vid hit a bunch of nostalgic notes for me, including Red Alert, and early RTS games
The production quality here. *chef kiss*
I’m only half way through and your models look fantastic, serious congratulations. I really love the way you use the strengths of both printers and combine them into something that looks like it was officially made!
I was surprised when I saw how much Eldar terrain there is.
that is surprising, it's supposed to be space marines all the time always!
@@EonsOfBattle SPEEEEEEEESSSSS MARRRIIIIIIINNNEEEEEE!!!
Amazing video! That being part was awesome! Great job designing, printing, and painting that terrain. Impressive!
Honestly, this is my favorite video from this channel thus far and even has me considering becoming a patreon, greatly enjoyed seeing the process of terrain creation from start to finish! Hope to see more of this in the future (tau terrain fingers crossed) fantastic job!
This is astounding! Watching you 3D design and talk through the process is so cool!!!
The whole process from start to finish was epic! Loved the video and you two are awesome! Thanks for sharing.
Stunning models, printed out the greebling and you've outdone yourself, excellent quality, have the generator printing in resin as we speak!
awesome!
I love the skit at the beginning
Finally a proper Terrain video. Way too few of these on UA-cam. Please to more
Excellent video with an incredible amount of effort put in. I hope this does well for you guys, because you truly deserve it.
Awesome video, I know that was a boat load of work. Thank you two so much for the Midigation!
I find it very convenient that when I came up with a hypothetical game-type using DoW:DC building systems a while ago you make a video about it.
Thank you so much!
anytime!
This is so fantastic! Great work!
Nice switch up of hosting! Bravo work!
Brilliantly done, and wonderfully explained
Great video nick I'm seriously considering getting a 3d printer now that terrain building program looks like a lot of work but clearly worth it, nice 👍
Thanks for sharing the meshes for the generators
every day it gets harder and harder to fight the temptation of a 3d printer. So many cool terrain pieces you guys put together.
Guys, these are amazing! Great work!
Love this! We're big fans of DoW and playing on the table top among that terrain, great idea!
Now I want to play Dawn of War 1 again...I put too many hours into that game. Also, a Nick video! We need more Nick.
You made 3d modelling look so easy 😭
The other option is directly ripping the models from the game which they don't show here for...ahem..obvious reasons (it would get them in serious trouble with GW and they seems to be a channel that cares about wanting to be on friendly terms with GW). If you see a low poly Dread or Marine, it's usually ripped from DoW1 or 2.
3D modeling can be dauting at first but I'm sure you can learn it... Take a look at Blender Guru's channel he has 2 begginers series (a donut and an anvil) it I'll teach almost anything need to create pieces like the ones from DOW.
I could never get my head around just using an STL thingy and a printer, let alone constructing prototypes, and modelling in 3D.
I’d love to see you build necron terrain, some of the DoW necron buildings are so bloody cool.
Great vid! I really wanted to get into the files of the game "spacemarine" and rip the terrain from there. soo many great ideas in there
This was a great episode!! Like some of the other comments I find it really strange they never released Dawn of War buildings. These are so much better than that bunker. I know it is a playable piece, but these are so cool. Great to hear about another set of printers as well.
Interesting video. Currently Weyland-Yutani Terrain is pretty much the global tournament standard for 40k. And next week they'll have it updated to GW's new tournament standard aswell. Offcourse we aswell build terrein out of soda cans, pringles tubes etc. But now that we have more serieus people in our group. And some members complaining about a lot of the terrein beeing plain rules wise. That we dont utilize defend/hold position etc. combined with the fact that all points and balance changes will be adjusted to afore mentioned terrain. we have decided to spend the money to get our terrein up to date too the official tournament standards. ( still keeping the older ones just for BS matches to try stuff out on ;)
For the tweezers and rubber band trick, if you check out your local electrical shop, they should have clamping tweezers, you have to pinch to open vs traditional pinch to close, its what I use when stippleing with foam bits, excellent video again
Great work on the terrain. Looks very slick.
Never had anything but trouble with Anycubic, so I hope you don't run into problems, FDM and SLA. Their support was like talking to a wall covered in apology notes too.
Really good video. Been binging the channel and it is fun to switch hosts up for a minute. Like the differences in style between you two.
and there will be plenty more to come!
This is an excellent video, very different. New to the channel. great job
👏👏👏 bravo Nick! That's some amazing modeling.
I seen this on Reddit today and commented. Awesome dude!!!
Wow, what an incredible result!
this was pretty dope. way to go man!
I managed to extract the actual game models from Dark Crusade at one point. They were low quality of course, and I planned to use them as a basis to build up from.
These look amazing, and better than I could do.
Excellent! Brilliant! Thanks you
Now that was some amazing terrain keep it up. Great video
I was legit looking for these a couple weeks ago. Glad there are other people out there with a love for DoW and the awesome structures.
The beer cans for terrain hits hard!
This is some GREAT work!
This video, and the terrain was great. You should be super proud.
thanks pleasant kenobi may the force be with you
Saw an article in my feed. Saw that it was about you. Came to the original video
Those look amazing; if I had the space and time to get stuck in with 3D modeling, I'd definitely be making stuff like that.
EXTREMELY impressed by what you made of this.
Nick, you're a magician! Awesome work 👏
I've been lurking on your channel but this video got me to subscribe
man! that terrain is class! nice job. Great watch as always!
Wow guys, this is a really great one!
you are the man!, great job!
Very cool!
My local hobby shop actually has an MDF kit for that reactor. Keep waiting for someone to pick it up
Red Alert 2 is an amazing game, played sooo much of it. Dawn of War: Soulstorm was my introduction to 40k and is really fun! Except Winter Assault campaign, what the hell was that?? Anyway, great to see these DoW-buildings!
The heck is your problem with winter assault?
Winter assault was fire
I printed out a power generator in full resin (I don't have an FDM printer currently). Came out great! Its assembled, and i'm going to start painting it. The DoW aesthetic got me. I'll probably make a full set of 4!
That’s awesome!
0:13 was like being taken back to the 90s for a second there boys 🤣 brilliant. Forgot that was even a thing lol
Very impressive!
Yay my Nundam made the EOBComplete list! I 100% am going to do this terrain project...Dawn of War 1 is what got me into the hobby back in the day! Guess I gotta bump it up to Ultrafans status...
That RA2 box art was absolutely real. Holy nostalgia, I remember discussing the repackaging with geeks in the gamestop... back when gamestop was worth shopping at.
I worked at Target at the time, and we had to pull the box from the shelf and ship it to the manufacturer to be repackaged.
Ah Yes Red Alert 2
Star craft 2
And dawn of war.
Games which bring so much memories to not few people out there.
Some of the best RTS to be released. I am personally glad that several people make things based on these buildings as they do look great. I personally like some of the guard buildings like the infantry command.
These are amazing!
Rubber band on tweezers! Awesome tip. Great video overall for inspiration.
Why does the base look like a gothic church meets a shipping container?! 😂 that is an interesting footprint
The nostalgia just hit me like a brick
Pro tip use reverse tweezers that open when you pinch. I have two pairs love them
thanks man, i'll make them right now
A nick only video feels like the “Joey” spin off
nick needs his own theme song
Hey, this is a fraking great video!
This is just too fucking cool. Just wish you'd given us a zoomed out view for us to appreciate!
Looks sick! Gave me some ideas for terrain for myself ;)
oh daYm this was an awesome video great job guys!!!!
ummm more plz!!!!!
Hell yeah, would love to see some more dawn of war terrain
Very nice work :)
Amazing work man. This is rlly hard work .I’m just study and start with AutoCAD. I want to achieve the same status so I can make my own terrain like you :)
Tau AND Eldar terrain, as long as they look as great as these! Well done 🔥🔥🔥
That was a dramatic opening...
Eldar, eldar from dawn of war 1! Really Gr8 vid guys
Good intro skit lol!
Not the first time this has been but still awesome
I would absolutely love some tau terrain, there is barely any out there
I am almost sure the stronghold is base on a thunderhawk and the plasma generator on a drop pod. I think that can inspire you do to more original scenography and stuff :)
Wow, you should sell your own Terrain line! Looks great
Excellent
Sweet terrain! More rts terrain!
Very impressive.
Oh I _love_ this architecture
I really love the terrain. I grew up pretty poor, so I couldn't afford models (it was just as expensive then as it is now if you adjust for inflation by the way) so Dawn of War was my main was to satiate my love of warhammer.
Seeing the tau buildings from dow1 would be rad.
