My second contribution to the Worlds Apart FFIX tribute album! Recorded 2 years ago :)
For those who haven't played FFIX: This song is about Freya Crescent, a Burmecian knight in search of her lost love, Sir Fratley, who went missing two years prior to the game's beginning. When she finally finds him, she discovers he has amnesia and has forgotten all about her and their time together. (Hence Freya's catch phrase 'To be forgotten is worse than death' ) Though I feel the game didn't dwell very much on this side story, it still sticks out to me as one of the sadder moments in gaming.
I will go ahead and hazard that this cover is only 'loosely based' on Unforgettable Silhouette/Freya's Theme. In truth it is more of an original song with elements of her theme, rather than the other way around. Still - written with Freya foremost in mind, and I hope you will enjoy ^w^

I am Japanese. Basically, I'm a strict and dry person when it comes to arrangements. To be honest, I was listening with low expectations at the beginning of this video. But as a result, after listening to this arranged song of yours, I immediately pressed the good button on this video of yours and subscribed to your channel.
I was in tears. You completely empathize into Freya. I can understand that you very love FF9. There are probably multiple similar comments already, but I couldn't help but write one. Thank you for your wonderful arrangement.
God, I'm a 27-year-old man and I am crying like a baby. You have such an incredible talent for taking the scenarios from games like this and creating a powerfully empathetic link with the characters through only a few words. This is absolutely beautiful.

My dad died this last fall and my mom has alzheimer's, the world isn't burning but the world is in turmoil from the cororavirus. There are parts of this song that just wreck me. It's my mom, drifting farther away, every day - she was my best friend growing up and I miss her. "Come back to me if I fall. Please believe you once loved me, though you don't know me."

This is absolutely amazing. I always imagined Freya having this kind of soft and gentle voice and air about her. Her story was by far the saddest of the entire game and I was disappointed that Fratley never recovered from his amnesia and loved Freya as he once did, even though he starts loving her all over again in the end. I was also disappointed that Square never delved into the side story all that much. But anyway, this was a great song!

Freya is the character I identify the most with. This song touches the deepest part of my intimacy, sort of my essence. I could say congratulations, but it's more appropriate a thank you :)

Wow - I'm - I'm stunned. When I first saw the thumbnail and title for this in my subscriptions, I immediately blurted out, "Is that Freya?!" Oh snap. Final Fantasy IX is literally one of my favorite games / storylines, and I've always loved Freya and Fratley's storyline arc even if it wasn't exactly the focal point of the overall plot. This is absolutely marvelous, and really captures that melancholy / longing / heartbreaking feeling of these two and their interactions. Your voice is so soft and elegant as always and so atmospheric. "The rain now falls / each drop an agony" is such a forlorn yet beautiful line, and very fitting to Freya's character given that Burmecia is the Land of Eternal Rain and that rain is often heavily associated with sadness. The artwork is also wonderfully rendered - it really gives life to this sad tale, and I love how Freya fades out of the frames that have Fratley in them. It's very reminiscent of "fading out of memories" theme, and you literally depicted this entire piece so well. This is a masterpiece. I love it so much; you really did such a FANTASTIC job and it's mindblowing. Keep up the good work!

I think having Freya and Fratley's romantic subplot _not_ be a focal point of the story was the best thing they could've done with it. It's one of those little things that helps to set up that these characters have lives outside of the story we see, that there's a world going on out there when we're not looking. Everybody's got their own problems. The apocalypse might wait until we're done grinding up levels to face it, but in the meantime there's still stuff happening without us. The protagonists have... character.
Freya was always my favorite character for FFIX. This is a real treat.
I am absolutely floored. What an effort. You have done the entire storyline of Freya and Fratley so proud. I didn't think it was possible to capture the kind of emotion borne in their lost-and-found (but always lost) relationship. I was wrong.

I agree with Freya's words: "To be forgotten is worse than death" because you don't die once... You die 3 time at one: 1st is in someone's memory. 2nd is in your memory, in your psyche (it's really stunning when someone dear to you really cannot remember you, thats why. And here it starts: depression, sudden deatch of your nature). 3rd is when you die with your body. So... I can say same words as Freya that "To be forgotten is worse than death". When she said it, I almost then understand, what she truely mean.
Erutan, you perfectly fit in her words. You took melody perfectly in shape and make from it beautifull story about forgotten love. Congratulation from me. I'm really impressed.

I beat final fantasy 9 for the first time, I bawled my eyes out. I wound up developing the biggest crush on Freya and was really happy to see her and Sir Fratley together again in the end

After more than a decade, FF9 is still my favorite FF game and this brought back some beautiful, bittersweet memories.
Freya's story is still something I wish Square would make some sort of spin-off on because, as you say, the game didn't dwell much on it though I feel it could have been great.
Gotta hand it to ya, Kate. You captured Freya's character perfectly in this and the video was so nostalgic with the rain and the fire. And gosh the song and those lyrics just resonate so well with my image of Freya too!

I really love it - the game, Freya's story, this song. Thank's for this tribute to my heart after 15 years.
Even to this day, I still think of Freya's story and shed a tear. She really has one of the saddest stories that one can and she doesn't get enough focus to really let that shine and to overcome it all as she should. If Square ever remakes this game, I hope they focus more on her, because her tragic story could make her one of the most memorable, strong, and respectable characters in gaming, without a doubt.
I didn’t mesh with this song originally. However, now I’ve felt this exact heartache. I couldn’t explain it to my friends, but this song describes it perfectly. This is probably my favourite song of your entire work, this is absolutely beautiful stuff. The one about Daguerreo is REALLY good but this one just touches a little deeper. Very wonderful.

I think it's always risky to put voice on these remixes, as people who listen to them love the original ones and really dislike when someone sings those songs and it's "not good enough" for such themes. But here, with this voice (yours?), it's unexpectedly perfect. Congratulations. This is incredibly beautiful, without doubt one of the best songs in the OC Remix album.

Passionate and tragic and yet so beautiful. The artwork added so much clarity to Freya's story. The music expressed her courage, her devotion to her fellow warriors, her sense of chivalry, and her faith that she would once more see her beloved. Completely Erutan.
Of the playable characters, Freya is one of my favorites from FF9, and I believe that even if it is loosely based on her theme, you have captured the essence of her shattered heart when she finds Sir Fratley again, only discover he does not know her. This also captures the part of the ending where they are talking, and you know a part of her wants him to just finally turn and say something that only the two of them would ever.
I love your FF9 songs, and I do believe it is an underappreciated Final Fantasy game, as it is the first I played, and when I get the disks and my ps1 to work, I still play it when I can. I do hope to see more so I might listen to them as I play!

My favorite character from FFIX has always been Freya, her story hits close to my heart, I can't believe I hadn't seen this beautiful song you created! You caught her essence perfectly, thank you so much for it.
I, too, felt like they didn't do anything with Freya, like they threw her in at the last minute because they needed another party member to fill the quota. The same can possibly be said about the others who join you post-Vivi and Steiner, i.e. Amarant and Quina.
I felt bad that they never truly wrapped Freya's story up. They had multiple chances to do so, yet didn't. Thank you for showing love and appreciation toward the character. A lovely song based on a truly fantastic theme. Keep up the awesome work.
geminidrake I agree (though I disagree about Amarant and Quina, I think they did what was possible with those two). I was hoping her arc would get deeper, but it’s pretty much forgotten right after Cleyra. I was hoping she would meet with Fratley at least one more time before the end. They could have easily done that in Lindblum before we get the Hilda Garde III, but instead we just get one scene in the ending to give closure to something that wasn’t properly developed. I mean, we didn’t even know if Fratley had survived the attack on Cleyra up until that last scene, it’s kinda disappointing.
FFIX holds a special place in my heart. Freya was also my favorite.
Final Fantasy IX was my first Final Fantasy and remains my favorite. Freya Crescent and her story always stuck out to me in the game despite her relatively small role in the overall plot and she has remained one of my favorite characters ever since.
I remember finding your "You're not alone" lyrical performance years ago and followed your work on youtube since, loving that beautiful tribute to one of my favorite games ever.
Now...now you made a piece about my favorite, and a very tragic character of that same game, and it is incredibly beautiful. I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw this pop up in my subscription folder, but here it is, a thing of beauty.

Freya personality is unspeakable. 1999 when final fantasy nine came out i was 10 years old and i felt the biggest bound to freya and vivi. Just speaking about it makes my heart age.

I really want an entire game about the Burmecians, because there's so much side-story that could be used such as - How exactly did Sir Fratley lose his memory? How did Puck of all people find him before Freya? What is Puck's relationship with his kingdom, did he leave because he didn't want to be king, or because he wanted to help Fratley? (He was clearly close to them as he says he didn't want Freya to see Fratley until he'd got his memory back) Where did Fratley go after Cleyra was destroyed until meeting up with Freya once more? And of course, how does the rebuilding of Burmecia go? How does Freya manage to put aside her past feelings in order to create new ones? Can the Burmecians and Cleyrans live in harmony considering their different cultures?
Can someone make a Sir Fratley game please? And make it perfect?

This is one of my favorite remixes/fansongs of all time. It made me cry the first time I heard it (something I have trouble letting myself do, so it's very meaningful and cathartic when it happens), and I binge-listened to it for weeks after I downloaded the ocr album it's on. If it's any indicator how much I love it, it's one of less than 100 songs in my over 5000-song iTunes library that is both rated 5-stars and Loved. So thank you for making this breathtaking piece, and also for this lovely lyric video.
I remember watching the "Roses of May," song awhile back. Then recently when I was driving back from a trip I showed my friend "come little children," on my ipod. And I had totally forgot the music and came and checked the channel out again. Needless to say a new subscriber. Haha Love Final Fantasy IX and gaming in general. I have had this on loop for a good 5 hours (as in between that was other music so I wouldn't get tired of listening to this... a palate cleanser for the ears) and I have come to not only LOVE the haunting tone of this but have come to wish there was a second part of this song that's from the point of view of her lover or whoever she's singing too...
Zidane aside Freya is easily my favorite character (bold statment, for all playable characters, even the guests, are very enjoyable) because she is a little bit of everything DPS, Tank, she even has support and healing with her abilities

Coming here after the announcement of the PC/Mobile Remaster of FFIX. Im so psyched about getting to play one of the most beautiful, enchanting games once again. I was humming FFIX-songs all day now, so I remembered your channel with your stunning interpretations of its music. I already said this years ago, but once again: your singing is a wonderful art.
