Another physical character of violinists is the muscle of their left palm (I remember seeing one photo of Eddy's left palm, never expect to see real muslce there!), and of course, calluses on their finger tips.
Is that what the deal is with my left palm? I'm 60 years old now and haven't played violin since I finished college, but my left palm has always been weird. All these years I wondered why.

@@irelynbever2960Also, to a certain degree, clarinetists. Mostly on the right thumb, because that’s what holds up the weight of the instrument. I have seen slight calluses on the pads of non-pinky fingers. The clarinet has open tone holes, so you have to apply more force when pressing the keys. That sometimes results in slight calluses (depending on the person).
As a pianist, we don’t get hickeys. We get hand pain (sometimes if we’re not too careful). As a composer, we get carpel tunnel from clicking the mouse too often :-) 😂😂😂
I remember hearing this one story when my piano teacher’s friend’s finger got jammed between piano keys and it started bleeding …

I actually wanted to get a violin hickey😂 As an adult beginner, I kinda link having a violin hickey with lots of practice (and looks professional lol), so I would check in the mirror occasionally during the first year of my violin learning to see if I got a violin hickey lol And well, I practiced a lot yes, but still hasn't got one lol
You are right there. It is linked with a lot of hard practising. I’m not a professional, just an advanced amateur. I started when I was 4. I had it younger (in high school and few years after that) when I practised several hours a day. And sometimes I got stupid comments at school. It was before I chose literature studies over music. Now it’s almost gone, very light. I still play daily but only an hour or so - and I do have a few days off.

Brett has high prescription eyeglasses from very early age, Eddy has low. Eddy would never ever do anything to make Brett uncomfortable because of his sight impairment.

I tried hard to get a viola hickey in high school. I wanted to show it off as a musician's badge of honor. I never managed to get one. On my first day in undergrad, I got a real hickey, though. Wasn't proud of that one. With the tables turned on me, I spent all day, self-conscious, trying to hide it.
