To explain the end of the sprite commercial:
The other players who are really good only get to meet the teacher once a week while the bad player who drank the sprite gets to practice with her everyday.

The spot where she breaks the bow at the end is in Italian. The product is to help manage anxiety, the latter represented by the violinist doing a tune similar to the "Jaws" theme wherever she goes.

I'm quite embrassed to say this but "whatever that city is" is actually Istanbul, the stairs at 12:44 are called "Kamondo stairs" which I've climbed every morning to go to my high school. It's a city of 16 millions of people, they could have easily find a violinist (even I would do better, I'm a piano player but also played violin for two years).

Just some context on the Sprite ad: The tagline “Magpakatotoo Ka!” means be your authentic self. So the green violin dude just admitted how he really plays and was picked out because the girl actually told him that they need to meet everyday and practice for he is the worst player! :)

It doesn't really make sense, because playing the violin is already one of the most authentic things you can do. You can't fake playing better than you actually do. If the other guys played better that means they are better...

I have several friends that were in this shoot (all real professional musicians) but what you might not realize is that it’s not an uncommon practice for the director of the commercial to have people switch instruments for the video shoot because they think someone looks more like they play a certain instrument. In this particular video, a few of the violinists aren’t actually violinists. There are music consultants on set that work to make it look as real as possible, from how the group is setup to how the instruments are held. The bassoonist, however, is a real bassoonist and he is truly an amazing musician.
The second ad was actually about a medicine for anxiety and the violin was representing anxiety which is probably worse than a sore throat (although maybe more accurate for some people)
And by breaking that bow, the ad is transferring the anxiety to us.

I just want to point out as a harpist that at 3:57 the harp is absolutely on the wrong shoulder but it probably looked better for the ad to make her face visible to the camera. It’s just so wrong though, since harps are built for your right shoulder. The fact that you guys remembered that from your lesson and pointed it out makes me so happy.
I mean if they don't attend to such (important) details, this could imply that attention to detail isn't reflected in their product either...

I was just about to comment the same thing, so thanks for pointing it out already! The harpist was probably positioned correctly, but the producer or director was like "actually, it looks better on the other side, so we can see your face". Otherwise she would have been covered by the strings, and from a photographers/artists point of view it does make perfect sense to change that - even though it's wrong posture and you wouldn't play the harp like that.
When the bar is so low, just getting a real musician is enough to pass lol
I'm shocked that you guys missed the Jazz Bass being mimed with a MIDI bass at 10:36!! I couldn't stop laughing! The notes from the bass were WAY too even and too perfect to be a real Jazz Bass.

YES!!!! Thank you! As someone from bass gang (specifically Jazz bass gang!) I was *appalled.* The midi sound was so awful and didn't even match up to his hand movements, *and* the notes/phrases they chose were bad too lol. It hurt my soul. I guess they didn't notice it because they were refreshed by the real violinist, but I definitely noticed it. I'm glad someone else did too.

4:24 it's actually a left shoulder harp, you can tell by the strings on it and how they face to the right instead of the left, her hand placement is wonky tho

AHAHAH the second one is an italian ad, the man playing the violin represents anxiety, so she breaks the bow to break free. Still sacrilegious, but not completely nonsense
I could tell immediately it was for anxiety! A good analogy, despite the sacrilege.
Sacrilege or not, if some chucklefuck ghost was haunting me day and night playing anxiety music in my soul, I'd break his bow and feel totally justified. It'd be self defense at that point!
Whenever I see these on TV, I only have two things to say:
1. RIP violin
2. RIP film crew's ears

Dear ad producers.
If you want to put classical music (especially violin-related) contents in your advertisement, please get Twoset inspection before releasing. You can save lots of souls from cringing/pain.
But if they do that, then where will twoset get content?
Unless if it's a skit, which it seemed like, with the dramatic player, the horrible player, and the green monstrosity, which was worse than anything most of us have ever seen, but somehow the best.
Does a real bow break as easily though? I feel she didn't have to make any effort. If it's a fake bow it's a little less sacreligious I think
Real bows would take more force than that to snap in two. Definitely a prop. But, still, the shock value is legit!
@@CopShowGuy Nah, I think it'd be much easier to buy a real and cheap bow than actually create a fake bow that looks real.
I believe they just prepared a little crack on a real bow, or maybe break it beforehand and glue it back, something along that line, to make sure the snapping is clean and crisp.
@@TarunoNafs My take is that's probably a real cheap bow that was cut beforehand, hollowed out on the cut ends and fitted with magnets so it would stay together while in (probably fake) use but also easy to "snap"

It makes it easier to snap than glued one and is reusable in case of a screw up during the recording

I think the ironic thing about the sprite ad is that the green violin guy actually kept his bow very parallel to the bridge, and also the sounds that he made were pretty reasonable compared to bow movement, like the strings his bow was on and stuff.

@@CopShowGuy it is common for people in the Philippines to speak partial English. My mom and her friends speak like that, which helps me learn bisaya as they gossip. Usually it's for certain adjectives, but I think they do it more for the trend and to copy celebrities 🤷🏻♀️

just pointing out, the harp player is positioned that way strictly because of the camera. Her face needs to be visible to the audience, not to the conductor. That's the only reason. :)

Please do yourself a favour and don't buy the cheapest instrument you can find on amazon. Go to a reliable maker or (online) store and choose an actual instrument not a VSO (violin shaped object)
How is it going so far?
In the first ad, the girl was the teacher and at the end of it, he told the guy (the one drinking the soda) that they will practice everyday; while, the others would only meet once a week. That's why the horrid player (all of of them are tbh) was smug. The ad says "Magpakatotoo ka" means to be truthful and because he was "truthful" about his awful playing, he got to spend more time with the attractive teacher.
As someone from the Philippines, I would like to apologize to Bret and Eddy, to the music community, and to Ling Ling for these sacrilegious ads

I unironically like the one where she breaks the bow. Like, I could tell it was somekind of anxiety meds without knowing the language, I like the representation of anxiety as someone stalking you while playing scary music and the actress staring straight into his eyes and breaking his bow is both funny and provides a good idea of what the meds are supposed to do.
I don’t know how well the product works (I have a distrust of anything that looks like essential oils) but I think the writing and delivery of the commercial is good overall even if the playing isn’t spot on.
Can we acknowledge how strong she was for breaking the bow so easy?💀💀💀

It's funny that TwoSet commenting on the fact that no-one had shoulder rests, I starting playing in year 4 but I didn't even learn what a shoulder rest was until like year 10 when I got given my uncle's old violin (which had come with one) and even since then the only time I use it is for slides and things where my left hand can't support the violin. (Oh I'm only in year 11 btw so it's not like I've been playing for like 10 years without knowing shoulder rests exist lol)
For the last ad: It IS a creative ad, you will certainly remember the product well. I'm quite proud of it, seeing it among the other ads.

@@oxoelfoxo A bow is a rather thin stick of wood, so I could see it breaking like this. Btw the sound of breaking was probably not the real noise, but some sound created by a sound artist. But I still find it haunting.
