  • Close up views and descriptions of the features and accessories on my 2006 Yamaha FJR1300AE. It's over 8 minutes long so feel free to "fast forward" through the boring sections. I also advise going to full screen at 720p resolution to get the best view of the specifics.

Is this bike with the automatic clutch a good bike? were you happy with it?
Can you suggest it to a new rider?
    Thanks in advance, good videos.

Generally, I can recommend any FJR1300 A or AE to anyone but honestly, advising a new rider to get on a 140 HP motorcycle capable of 165+ mph is a very bad idea. Better a new rider starts with a motorcycle intended for beginners and completes the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) course before taking to the roads on a bike.
I would advise a new rider to consider one of the Honda Dual Clutch (DCT) models such as the NC700XD or CTX700N. Both are less powerful, lighter weight, and better suited to new riders. Plus (and this is a big plus) the DCT transmission has real gears and can be used in fully automatic or fully manual mode (using paddle shifters on the left side handlebar). That flexibility is a big improvement over the Yamaha AE system which is always fully manual. And the Honda system has none of the annoying "drag" of the AE when coming to a stop.
As for the Yamaha AE system: the automatic clutch worked perfectly and is a lot of fun, except as you're "coasting" to a stop. (With a manual clutch bike, you usually pull the clutch in the last few feet and brake to a stop.) The AE system doesn't release (free wheel) until you are at a dead stop so the engine continues to (gently) drag the bike forward as you're expecting it to coast. You can't even manually shift it to neutral until it's stopped. Disconcerting in traffic, not dangerous.
