    …. Always face the sharp Part of your cutters, closer to the trunk of the branch to get a cleaner cut. Also, when cutting a big branch with the saw, always cut the side, closest to the ground, facing gravity, first. This small undercut will prevent the bark from ripping off when you make the top cut.

    This was a major help. Moved into a forgotten about Meyer lemon. Removed a third of the growth between height and poorly placed branches which would likely rub later. A few months later, the tree has so much fruit on it that it appears to be self thinning.
    I'd bet it's still every bit of 25 feet tall.

    Great video...Thank you for posting this....We have to be Very careful when pruning any type of tree...it can get confusing with all the branches in there and you never want to make a mistake and cut off a good branch....I always make very sure of the branches that I want to remove before making the cut to be sure. Take your time, there is no hurry. With citrus trees the less you take off the better.

    EXACTLY what I was looking for! Mine is a real young tree, and from the cold it has dead wood on the ends. I wasn’t sure exactly WHERE to Mae the prune. Ty!Why does every video I find not show exactly what u did! You showed different reason to prune, but u showed up close and exactly where and how. THANK YOU! Only took me a few hrs to find this video. This video is all someone needs if they just want to know how to prune. Searching for how to prune a citrus tree came up with that, but when watching other video’s, they just talk about more less, and care of tree and shaping. They didn’t do what u did in your video. Other videos were a complete waste of my time… hrs of searching. THANK YOU, THANK YOU for taking the time to make this video. I’m new to growing a citrus tree, this was extremely helpful. And you really showed how to do it. I could see plainly where and how. Most videos can’t even see what they r doing. Ty!!

    Thanks for the tips. It became a very nice tree. We had some overgrown citrus trees in our property when we moved here. One of our lime trees broke in two because of bad angled growing and heavy fruiting. Its time to prune them to prevent this happening again😇

    I have inherited a massive 44 year old lemon tree, that was never pruned properly when I was a child. It produces a ton of great lemons. It also grows these long, non producing shoots, that grow straight up into the air, just like the ones you snipped off early in this video, only mine are much larger. The problem is that the tree is so wide, and such a snarled mess inside towards the center, that I usually been trimming those long shoots, from the top, standing on a ladder. I want to thin out that tree this year, and cut those long shoots off, almost flush from where they started from, with my sawzall, like you did in this video. I DO NOT WANT THEM TO RETURN. Will brushing on a pruning sealer, after I cut them off the main branches, eliminate them from coming back??? Your help/advice will be much appreciated.

    How early should I start to prune my trees? I have two very young guys. Planted them on 6/1/24 from 1 gallon pots from the nursery. Trunks are about 1/2 thick at the base

      Im no expert but I just read an article before this and it says prune before blossom or after during Spring. You don’t want to do during winter as it stimulate new growth during cold weather and will freeze/die.
      I’m learning too as we just bought our house and previous owner never prune our orange tree

    So here we are 7 months later and I have a harvest of yellow baseballs that are round on the bottom and have ... An outie navel? Bulbous near branch end of fruit. Skin is a little bumpy. Taste has notes of grapefruit, flesh is yellow. Not what I was expecting.
    Edit 2 years later: I determined I was dealing with a trifoliate the whole tree was over grown. Cut it back hard ever since. Last pruning I cut back everything but the one branch that wasn't 3 leaflets per petiole. We are mid winter now, and that knee high branch(on a 25 foot tree) is now as tall as I am, and has a half dozen new branches on it. I think I have my new trunk!
    A lot of it looks a bit like water sprout, but I've kept after removing the trifoliate as it regrew, so now I have a rebounding fruit tree much larger than available at the store due to the established roots. Not much fruit with the drought, but lots of vegetation. Looks like an orange of some type.
    Thanks again, I still use this video as a reminder when it's pruning time.

    What if your only producing branches are low hanging? Like, almost on the ground, low

    • @chrisd5407
      @chrisd5407 3 роки тому

      You can prop them up if the fruit gets heavy and the branches droop to the ground.

    its not blocking airflow - air is not viscous enough to care

    • @hhuntteri
      @hhuntteri Рік тому

      the rate at which the air crosses the leaf and exchanges chemicals can be increased by allowing “more room to breathe” aka faster air through the tree by removing some filler
