- Join us as we explore beautiful Bulgaria! Bansko, Bulgaria is a popular ski town in the winter that turns into an incredible hiking town in the summer from June to September. We hiked Vihren Peak, Bulgaria’s second-tallest mountain located in the Pirin Mountains. This area is part of Pirin National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Bansko is a popular digital nomad town and each year Bansko Nomad Fest is hosted here!

We were blown away by Bulgaria’s mountains! Seriously an underrated country. The people were so kind, the food was cheap, and the accommodations were affordable.
It's such a beautiful place . Bulgaria 🇧🇬 is now in #1 spot for my next vaca. I'm definitely going to Bankso ❤
It is definitely a great place to visit and so beautiful in many parts. The people are some of the kindest we have met. Bansko is definitely a must and Sofia has a lot to offer and great food options in city center. We hope to go back and explore more of Bulgaria someday

If you do go to hike Musala, the town of Borovets is the "base camp" with lots of places to stay. The Lift(Gondola) was about 12 leva a few years back, probably more, takes about 35 minutes up through the trees to Yazstrabetz station. From there about an hours' horizontal hike over the the group of "Huts" and a large snow melt lake. There are paths to start up from there and maybe 2-4 hours depending on your strength to get to the peak. There's a Hut on top with hot tea and even bean soup if I remember and little Frig Magnets for the hike to put on your Frig collection of places been to.
Yazstrabetz gondola last down is about 5pm in Summer, so I was pretty concerned to get out of Borovets lift station to start the hike about 8am or earlier, because the round trip time leaves you with little time on the top. The trip along the way passes smaller and smaller lakes all very beautiful. But this info is a bit dated as I was last there maybe 2018.
Good to know! We were looking up information on the start at Musala. Couldn't make it fit with out travel schedule this time around. Seems like it would've been doable as a day trip, but we couldn't find consistent information. This is great insight. Appreciate you taking the time to lay this out for us and other people interested in hiking the tallest peak in Bulgaria :)
Vihren peak name means smth like furious or windy or stormy...you get the point....literally vihar means a strong wind and vihren means the one who is with strong wind
Thanks for the info ☺️ We had almost no winds that day, but the mid day fog rolled in quick. We got lucky with mild wind!
