I saw this music video on TV when I was 3 or 4 around 1984 and it scared the CRAP out of me. I yelled for my mom to come in the living room to see what was on TV. It might have been the headless guy reading the newspaper that did it, or maybe just the whole thing. I think this was the first music video I ever saw.
This was written for the soundtrack of Beverley Hills Cop with Eddie Murphy. The video was designed exclusively with MTV in mind when music videos were supposed to be watched as much as listened to. Watch other songs from the era such as Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel. Quite a few videos were a little out there at the time. There was a big market for this stuff.
I remember going to the Disco and getting down to this. The early 80's made lots of really weird video clips because it was the start of the MTV era. Don't worry about the music just make a groovy video clip was there motto. Once again good job.
I've definitely heard this before somewhere, for some reason im thinking maybe the movie Beverly Hills Cop? (pretty sure i heard it in a movie, not radio)
This video won 5 MTV Video Awards.
I always thought it was a bit disturbing but have to admire the ingenuity.

Herbie doing this is a bit like Rembrandt making a modern art piece
Your face says it all in reaction to this film clip Mike 😂🤣 “okay…ummm…well there’s that”! 😂Love it! Craig - Australia
I remember when this came out. Kinda freaked me out.
This is one of the weirdest things I've ever seen. It's kind of interesting to imagine what the thought process was behind this. lol
I remember being 100% wigged out by this video clip when it was released. In hindsight it's pretty abstract cheesy lol.
all this scratch'in is making me itch
Gives me the creeps that video, like a weird nightmare!😳
Don't like this one honey.
