I started guitar late in life at 64 if must know and I always thought that you had start when you were a kid , thank you so much for proving me wrong and teaching this old dog new tricks, you're the best!
A couple of quick observations. First, this is an excellent lesson and I'm fascinated that any lesson of this quality is free. Second, why would anyone give this a thumbs down? As a slightly advanced beginner that has been hacking away at the same I IV V 1st position chords for FAR to long, this lesson is a godsend. I just wish that the folks that voted it down said WHY. Wonderful lesson, clear, concise. Learning to play guitar when you're in your 50's and 60's is tough. Playing the rhythm and melody at the same time to a song is at least identifiable can be pretty tricky for anyone other than advanced players. This is one of the few songs I can do that with now. Thanks Justin.
Nek. the thumbs down are because there are people that would love to play the guitar but don't want to put any effort into it. Kind of like getting off the sofa to change a TV channel. Lazy. the only thing that makes them feel good is putting other people that are better than them down. They don't know by now that everything in life takes some effort. So these people will never be happy. Just existing one day after the other until the end, so sad. I wish I could write a song for the loosers in the world.
Dude!! Thank you so much for teaching us this song!! This has always been my favorite Beatles song!! I'm soon playing this for my grandmother at her anniversary. Wish me luck!!
It is hard to ignore the beauty of that simple melody that has its basis in that simple D chord. Now, playing that is another story. Guess that's why The Beatles are what they are. Thanks Justin for another wonderful lesson!
Justin, thanks to you (and your beginner to intermediate lessons), After a lifetime of loving this song and being stuck at "beginner" with my playing, "Norwegian Wood" is coming out of my guitar. It feels better than I could ever have imagined.
Justin do you have a video for everything. You pop up constantly no matter what im searching for. Since I started learning guitar about 10 years ago your consistently appearing on my computer with every song and technique I want to learn.
Excellent lesson... Justin really has the best teaching style. I really hate other instructor videos that start with 2 minutes of "click my link, blah, blah, blah" ;-) One variation I like on this song: Use Em7 instead of Em and A7 instead of A for the bridge section.
Thank you, Haruki Murakami for bringing hope and light yet at the same time for breaking my heart. You brought fire to my soul and enliven my mind reading the book. It was bound to happen. I knew it coming with Naoko. It was just too sad to hope and to know that it will happen. It was hard-hitting. But thank you. For making it so real, raw and honest. You broke me. But thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for the suggestion. Thank you so much. I have been a huge Beatles fan since I was 11 and have learned how to play my favorites from you. I keep coming back here over and over. There's something about your smile and personality that I find both calming and encouraging. This is one of my favorite Beatles songs, now Ican play it.😁
Justin has an ability to teach a song, that you have been trying to figure out for weeks, so you learn it perfectly in 10 minutes.. I'm very grateful.. thanks
Justin, I am from Liverpool, England. Lennon actually sings "she WORKED In the morning and started to laugh," not she walked in the morning et al. We Brits have trouble rolling the letter R. You sound like a brit....are you. You do a great job teaching and seem like a nice talented lad. Please keep up the teaching. Tara lah
This is the best lesson for this song I've seen. Unlike others, you include the rhythm and strum pattern, which makes a lot of difference in how it sounds.
So happy you made that. Your choice of song is amazing and you're the best teacher around. I'm very happy to buy your books to help your out, keep being awesome!
For any beginners watching this lesson, several guitar teachers i know use this as a dexterity exercise. another good one is copperhead road by Steve earl. Its also quite similar chord structure.
Id never head this before untill I was surfing colin hay. He dose it differntly but you gave me the ground work to learn it. Any time I have a hard time learning a great song your always there. Thanx!!
An excellent choice Justin for beginners and one of those beautiful Beatles' songs that doesn't get much airplay. Oddly enough this was one of the first songs I learned when I first took up the guitar several years ago. It sounds great when played on a twelve string but it took me a while to to build up enough callouses on my fingertips before I could play it!
I found this song from my childhood, which is a journey of sensations and indescribable emotions, I wanted to touch her and I found this the best tutorial. many thank you very much for your pedagogy amigo.Un fraternal embrace from Santiago
Awesome!!! I'm so glad there's more and more Beatles' songs lessons. But since this is one of my favorite songs, I've got to try and transcribe some on my own before checking the lesson. Thanks, J, keep rockin'!
I think he just put the capo slightly over the fretwire so that it rattled a little bit. Mess around with the position of your capo until it sounds rattly.
In case you still need help, here's an attempt at explanation of what Justin plays at 7:11: start with a downstroke on the D chord, and hammer-on your second finger. Then skip the up, do another downstroke. Skip the up again, go down-up-down, skip the upstroke and finally go down-up-down-up. At that point you end on the open D note and the riff starts over. It's hard to explain without notation, but if you keep your hand moving and listen to Justin you should be able to suss it out. Good luck!
You broke this down really well and made it super easy for me to pick up. I started looking at the tab and thought the song was way out of my league, but turns out it really wasn't. Thanks for explaining things so well!
thx man a million times this thing u and all thge other folks that teach guitar on the internet is priceless i know u must have herd this a thousand times anyways u r a saint :D thanks again peace :))))
Thank you Justin for all of your lessons. They are so well done. Your commentary here is spot on. Just learn the bones and as you practice the detail can be added. Your lessons are the best on the net. Thanks!
Dude you rock. One of my favourite songs. Being a beginner I am becoming impatient and want to learn all the songs but not finishing any. Dont suppose you have a lesson for that 😁
I know this is six years too late, but it might help others. Learn the song as you do, but don't settle that you "have it" learned until you can listen to the original in the car, in your headphones, or anywhere far from the guitar. Listen carefully. When you next attempt the song, set your phone's voice memo to record it. Listen back later, in the car, on your headphones, or anywhere away from the guitar and see what you think. That's what others are hearing when you play it. Do you have it down? Probably not. Go home and get it down.
i'm usually not a fan of re-makes, especially ones from the beatles, rolling stones, led zeppelin..you get the point...however. you make it a great listen. and I was quite surprised nice job!!
Justin, So little to say: You rock at it !!! Didn´t notice time going, everything important and easy going ! Thank you so,so much !!! Maybe I´ll never play it so well, but I had a great time ! Nice "talking" to you !
Brilliant Justin. Your lessons are much appreciated and you explain them so well. Always look forward to receiving your e mails. Keep up the brill work. Many thanks
good job. I just bought the Ravish Sitar by Electro Harmonix and needed to learn the basics of the song and turned to you. You made it easy for me, thanks.
I just wanted to take a few moments and thank you for providing so much "High Quality Information" on your website, your really one of the best on the Web! I'm new to playing guitar seriously, and have already learned so much from you, thank you for doing this. Your Buddy, Jeff Toronto, Canada : )

The lesson is not for free pal, by doing this kind of videos, Justin is gaining suscribers, likes and getting paid by youtube!
pretty sure i didnt pay anything for this. Hence why it's free from our POV
It is free you halfwit, how much did you pay for it?

Good luck buddy
How did it go
Love the son house pic
I'm completely baffled why anyone would give a thumbs down to this video.
never saw a pick guard like that , Justin is an excellent teacher
I think this song brings out the best in Justin.. he deals with the entire melody with such ease.. just a treat to watch!

when you get to 2:20 rewind it and play it again to really get the nuances of this playing! great job as always Justin.
I Like when you start out with the Cover,it show's what we're in store for & our Main goal of the song. Thank's JUSTIN !!! ♫

Thanks for the thanks 😊
I love it when you play the whole song trough, it really helps, especially with the getting the singing and guitar rythm in place.

This is one of those songs that was and is a gift to the entire world. Thank you Justin.
So, as far as learning this great Beatles riff nearly 50 years after it hit the planet, I can only say "thanks, Justin!", better late than never...
I learned this this weekend and it brought me so much joy. Thank you Justin
Justin can you please do a lesson on Across the Universe by the Beatles? It's such a beautiful song.

Justin is more better than other mentors here. Its so clear and easy to learn. Thanks a lot!😊💞💕
Learned this about a year ago from Justin. LOVE playing it, probably my favorite to play. Thanks Justin, your method is fantastic!
I really appreciate your breakdown of the timing and rhythm. I find that rhythm is the most important thing and sometimes my timing is a bit off.
Justin, I am stoked. Your version sounds awesome. It sounds so close to the original. Much better than other versions I've heard on guitar.
Bloody Brilliant . Oh..and so are the Beatles . Great Lesson of a fantastic song .

Justin you da man! Best guitar lessons in the world.
Awesome, can't believe I am actually playing this now, when you played the demo I thought it would be way over my skill level.
This sounds the best of the UA-cam lessons.
justin on black bird and norwegian wood your voice is just fine, as pleasant as the original!
I used to adjust the capo so it gave a twang ..like a sitar !
Chad Chadman How do you do that?

Justin Awesome job on this! I love all this music despite not listening to it for years.
Thank you Justin. You are doing the world s great service with your lessons!

I started learning it this morning, getting the feel of the riff going nicely is the most difficult part 😬
Great lesson! The sitar in the original takes this song over the top!

Very good Teacher 👍🏻. And it’s good that you have a Long Intro. So you can hear it very Long. And thats good ☺️👍🏻

Good job mate. Simply put and sounds great!
the reason i like your lessons is because you always give
priority to rythm,. not everyone in youtube does that
